Carol sad your husband chooses not to manage his tirades. How ironic he once taught defensive driving. You are wise to protect yourself from that energy, even if it means canceling trips. :brokenheart:

Katla the appliance repair guy who serviced the old Maytags that came with our house said the new Maytags are "disposable" just like all the other brands now ... except Speed Queen. So sad to see the downfall of Maytag, our 30 yr old set still worked beautifully when we had to leave them behind in Idaho. OUr next will be Speed Queens, really hate the idea of disposable-not-repairable appliances.

Hey all ladies in Canada, so any of you watch " The Artful Detective, Murdock Mysteries "? We just love it! Its so interesting!!

I watched it occasionally in Canada, but all the time here in Australia now.

They run it on Thursday nights here in Australia.

    7:30 - Father Brown
8:30 - Murdock Mysteries ... and they usually run three episodes in a row.

Nice way to end a Thursday. :)

Our one problem seems to be that they run the series out of order, so we are always asking each other, are they married now, or not? Love the music, and the cut scenes of him trying to piece it all together. I love mysteries that don't insult my intelligence. The ones where you know who did it from the get go, and the rest of the show you watch the detectives try to get their act in order, hate those!

Another series we watched was "Back In Time For Dinner". They picked a Toronto family and started in the 1920's, redoing their kitchen, living room and dining room. They had to dress the part, cook, using what they used back then. The series has them living in that era for just a week. It was interesting on what they adapted to, and what things kicked their butts!

We tape the Murdock Mysteries nightly. I think we tape it on a couple of channels. That's why our viewing thru the series is out of sequence. But really, the episodes can stand on their own. Besides Constable Crabtree's dismal luck with girlfriends, and the Chief of Police guy with a drink in his hand always, each episode is different👍.

    Regarding driving ...

I got my learners at 15 and full licence at 17 ... and I drove a lot for quite a few years, but then my driving became less and less, until, in 1999, I became "car-free".

I was "car-free" for the next 6 years, and that was great!! So nice not to have a motor vehicle to worry about.

But then my life circumstances changed, and all of a sudden I was driving up to 1000 km/week!! And I did a lot of driving for a few years.

Then in 2010, we moved into the town where I worked, and I stopped driving again.

Since 2010, I might have driven 10 times ... I don't know. Possibly once, or occasionally twice, a year. And before last weekend, I had not driven in well over a year.

Because of this accident, my husband can't drive and that was OK while he was in hospital, and even when he first returned home, but there are situations coming up where, unfortunately, driving may be required. And unfortunately taxis are expensive. So I've started driving again. I've driven 3 times ... once last weekend and twice this weekend.

I might need to go out one evening this coming week to get a little night driving practice in. Blech.

I am with you in the driving thing. I didn't get my license until I was 50. And that was because I had to with husband not able. Before, if I needed to get anywhere I just walked. Son needs to get to orthodontist appointment, I would pack the stroller and go. My world was 5 miles all around my house, which was fine.
Since moving I have yet to drive here. I will probably never be the person that drives for fun or relaxation. Its just a task.

Rebecca a patient at work brought in a painted rock and asked what I thought about it. I mentioned I knew some folks on the internet who liked to find these and she gave it to me. So here is a picture for you.

I’m supposed to hide this, yes? I was thinking of bringing it to Chicago and put it out in the wild there.

Nice! Yep, you hide it in places you travel. Each city has a Facebook Rock group, so they can share pictures of found rocks. For the one that painted that rock, its nice to see it. Look up Chicago Rocks and see what popular spots are. You can always keep it too. There's no rule saying you need to rehide what you found.👍

Rebecca Hmm I don’t faceboook. But I’d like the painter to see someone found it. I wonder if one of my nieces still does the Facebook thing.

Do you just post a picture like the one I put here for the painter to see? I know the patient found it in Fort Worth but not where in town.

So my roast could be cut with a fork! My carrots didn't shrivel away, and my golden potatoes plump and creamy! Success! I even invited my eldest son's old roommate/freeloader to have dinner. They were out in the garage, when both of us ate, so we didn't chat. He had come over to get a scooter part or some thing. He's a nice kid, just when I think of all the money my son has spent during their time as roommates, it just sickens me.
I am still really weak, and my tingling has me on edge. In Monday, I will call my doctor and see if all this is normal. Time is what I need.

My daughter and I used to watch Murdock Mysteries it's a great show! Do you get CBC where you are or are they showing it on American tv?

I do not have a drivers license. My vision has always been too poor to pass the test (I *CAN* pass the vision test, ironically- it is the reverse parallel parking I have never been able to do.).

For many years a motor scooter that went up to a max 35 miles an hour did NOT require a driving license and I traveled on one. But that changed and now any vehicle two or four wheeled (that exceeds 10 miles an hour) requires a basic driver license. And every basic drivers license requires parallel parking in an automobile in this state.

My one legally blind eye is on the right side and my proprioception disorder makes my spatial sense wonky - especially behind my back and where I can not see. It really isn’t fair. I was a good and safe motor scooter driver but unless I can conquer reverse and parallel parking in an automobile I can’t legally drive a small two wheeled scooter.

I do have a drivers permit. If my husband is ill or injured (usually if he gets a migraine while we are out and about) I drive us home. I stick to small neighborhood streets if possible and I do not drive on freeways. My lack of right side peripheral vision makes me feel unsafe for freeway driving.

I have done a shift when we drive on 2 lane interstates - but we carefully pick out the rest stops on the map where I will stop for a driver change. I am not good navigating a car in areas where I am not familiar so we keep my driving to a minimum and easy places (no parallel parking required, lol) only.

Rye I could not parallel park if my life depended on it. Also, I cannot back up or into parking spaces. A lot of it is due to being too short to see over the seat I'm sitting in.

    Pretty painted rock!

Rye - I have had my drivers license since I was 16 and have not parallel parked since my test. I will avoid it at all costs. I don't understand why it is still a requirement. I drive almost 70 kms a day just to get to work and back. I used to hate driving in the Winter, but after being far from home when a couple big storms hit and having to drive through them I am not as nervous as I used to be. I still prefer to stay home on storm days, but will go if I have to.

On driving - I have driven since I can't remember when, we drove on country roads so that we would be proficient by the time we got our licenses. I drive several times a week (I don't leave the house some days so no driving then, except the rig to get the mail a mile up the road, does that count as driving?). I could happily never drive again, I wouldn't miss it a bit. The year we lived in Shanghai and didn't drive I loved. My hub on the other hand misses driving like crazy when he doesn't have a car. We go for drives around the lake (or somewhere else) every weekend when the weather is nice. I almost never drive when we are together, with the exception of him having a medical procedure where he can't safely drive. I have driven home (about 7 1/2 hours away) for birthday parties/funerals/illnesses several times in the last couple of years while he has been traveling. I do my driving during the daylight hours, well, I may leave when it is still dark, but the sun comes up fairly soon after I head out. I feel safer driving alone in the daylight. When the big dog was still alive and traveled with me, I didn't worry too much, not many people were going to bother a fat lady with a 140 lb black dog beside her.

Margaret, fiber has not specifically been addressed. The over all theme is that sugar and processed foods have led to the increase in obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

Episode 5 covers the different aspects of fasting.

I am on their same page about sugar and processed foods. I also do not care for when their make a powdered version of a healthy food. The latest one I saw was beets. I love cooked beets. You do not have to make a powered version for me. The powdered version also takes out the fiber. BOO! The tops are great too. We cook them like spinach. The state of the beet tops also help you figure how fresh they are too.

We have a 30 year old top loading Maytag too. Thanks for the Speed Queen idea. When ours goes that's the way we will go too!

Happy Sunday. I working a ten hour shift today. Am hoping to get some paper work done as not busy and have some free time. Do think we are in for a cooler week (high to mid 80's). I do not do well in the heat.

I asked DH to order me one of those foot pedal machines. He laughed and said why it won't get used. I told him if I don't use it we will send it back, but I want to try. I have to do something as I am so tried of feeling tried all the time and have to start somewhere. So get the boot out and get ready to give me the big kick I need.

Ginger--Sending hugs and prayers. We can do this.

Rebecca--Please remember you just had major surgery and need to take it slow and easy and REST.

Susan-Welcome, this is a great group for support and friendship.

Michele--Glad to hear Jess is doing well in school and I agree when it is something you like you tend to do better. Sorry about Denise. Our DD moved out a week ago and we have not heard anything from her. She is talking to our DBIL that lives with us and sounds like it is not going well. Someone stole her lap top and all I can say is what do you expect at a drug house. I want to go over and drag her home, but that would not help at this point.

    CJ--Hugs and prayers!

Lisa--How fun to have the whole place to just do what you want and the time to do it before you move in.

Well another really slow day. I am off tomorrow and have projects to work on at home. I tired planting some grass in front of my rock garden and not sure it is going to take. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

allie if it is doable to hit your gym first thing in the a.m. you should go for it. When I get to the gym first thing, I find it makes men feel very strong— I make it like an appointment that I must keep, for some reason that works. Also, take it easy, don’t overdo, just get there and get started and repeat that one day at a time. One other trick—using your condo gym is a way of getting what you are paying for with your condo fees, yes? I remind myself that each time I go to the gym I am getting my money’s worth! Silly but works for my goofy frugal brain!! :p You go get ‘em Allie!

Allie - Why do you have to pick a diet? Why not just eat what you like within your calorie limits? Weigh and log and eat what you want up to your calorie limit each day.

I agree with Karen on the gym, getting it in first thing each morning has worked the best for me as well. I find myself stressing if I haven't gotten my miles in by mid-morning at the latest (on my lazy days).

If its a rock that was painted by a member of a rock group there are initials of the group on the back. Like our group here on the island is Whidbey island Rockers so WIR. Have your niece Google the initials and most just post a pic. Most of the group's are public, so you're able to post.

Well, I got some unexpected exercise in this afternoon. Hubs is home for a day and decided to fight jet lag that he would move part of the pile of mulch that the landscape guys haven't hauled off yet. This is mulch/dirt that they dug out of some beds to put down river rock. I figured I might as well help him so we moved 7 loads with me using the pitchfork and him a shovel. It took us about an hour and we were tired, its 104 out there! My arms and shoulders will be screaming tomorrow.

:) On the subject of what to eat, "the best food plan is the one you'll stick to". I started by logging everything I ate even if I went way over calories. I examined the food diary every day and looked for foods that I liked that had higher volume with lower calories. I noticed what foods had good nutrition. I used all that information to continue to revise my eating plan. In order to allow myself more time to be active, I sought foods that were easier to prepare so I spend less time in the kitchen. I aimed for the discipline to record my day's food in the food diary in the morning and then eat only what I had logged. It helped to be able to say to a well meaning friend who was offering me a treat, "No thank you, that's not on my food plan for today." I stayed out of restaurants for awhile until I had a better handle on what foods worked for me.

:) My back is still not completely healed from whatever I did to it on Monday lifting Bessie. Walking and dancing have been OK, but today when I went to the lavender farm to be part of the folk dancing group, I found out quickly that dancing on grass was not good for my back, so after two dances, I told the leader that dancing on the grass wasn't good for my back and I left, came home, and sat with the ice pack. I have also forced myself to stay off the exercise bike this afternoon.

:)Katla, I'm so glad to hear how well all your experiences with the RV have been for you and your husband.

just a quick note, Got my drivers license at 16, and while I don't "pleasure drive" going out just to drive - as the $$ of gas and my goal to lower my personal carbon foot print make it not a pleasure - The act of driving is one I do enjoy. And although I have not kept it up back in the day I drove a 72 passenger school bus and could drop that bus into a parallel parking space in one try. The biggest trick with a regular car is to line the back end of your vehicle up with the back wheel of the car in front of the spot you are headed into... that's where you start from - if you start there success is completely possible - starting from any other point and you are already at a disadvantage. When I got my license in CA in 1974 there was a written test, a vision test, and a one hour behind the wheel test which required merging, parallel parking (multiple times - depending on the tester) and a number of other stressful maneuvers. It took 2 tries but I passed, then 4 years later took a 5 week (2 times a week) police officer bus driving class. Now it's time to find one of the senior driving classes and get the discount on my car insurance.
