Machka: Perhaps a large bulletin board with "to-do" tasks that each caregiver must initial and post a time each time they are there. All of them have to use the one board so all can see what is done or not done.
He only has one home care worker, and she is great!!
But the organisation, in its wisdom, decided to tell me they were sending in a second one to help with all the assistance my husband needed. What?? He doesn't need that much assistance!! He needs gentle guidance, subtle prompting, help with his exercises, that sort of thing.
However, basically, they informed me that I was to open my home to a complete stranger for an entire afternoon this week, and then twice a week for who knows how long.
Not happening! And after my email and rather loud follow-up phone call, I'm serious ... it's not happening.
I can understand the need for a back-up person in case something happens to his home care worker, but ringing me up and informing me that someone I don't know from Eve was going to turn up on my doorstep later this week ... while I'm not there, I might add ... and spend the rest of the day "assisting" my husband. Big ol' NOPE!
It's no wonder I'm tired ... I deal with this sort of rubbish at least once a week with one organisation or another.
It's like they think he is living in an assisted-living place or something and has no family. Probably doesn't help that we opted to keep our own last names. I strongly suspect that a lot of people along the way don't realise, or choose not to realise, that I'm his wife and that we live in the same house together.
Sigh. Headache.

KJ - Ditto what Heather said, SO pleased for you, and so well-deserved! I continually boggle at how much you do for your daycare kids. You're amazing.
Just stopped in to share this link. Can't speak to the legitimacy of the information, and don't have time to read all their sources, but it's an interesting look at the connections between Alzheimers and insulin resistance.
Got to get my DH's lunch made, and get on with my workday...

Excavating an area for transplanting the dwarf apple. When it arrived bare root this spring, the roots were so long I had to wind them around the inside of the pot two or three times. Now I realize I should have root pruned it. The area where I'll plant it is also well rooted, with remnants from trees that were "cleared" 30 years ago, and abundant salal runners. Won't dig deeper than about 18 inches, but want to have at least 4ft diameter in which the apple roots can spread. Slow going, but if I do a little twice a week, might have it done by transplant time
Speaking of digging, know it burned more calories than "general gardening". Suspect I'm not burning near the calories estimated by mfp. Maybe it's time for a calories-burned tracker. Any suggestions?
Kylia what a cleaning tornado you are! Would NOT want to have to dust all those antlers, just sayin'
Margaret 3" off waist? con VERY gratulations. Sounds like you've found a healthy eating plan that works for you.
Rye that 112 is just too danged hot. One july Boise hit 111, the locals all said "but its a DRY heat so you don't feel it." As my Papa would say, "BOOJwah!)
Cathy how long did you have your 1976 Toyota Celica? My first new car was a 1976 Toyota Corolla Liftback SR5 that was still running beautifully, though tattered, when we gave it to my SIL in 1998. I miss that car and the next new car, the 2002 Freelander. The last new car, the 2014 Ford Escape, not so much.
Tracey What a cute little angel is Michaela!
Rebecca truck repair guy has had your son's truck since Oct 2016? That sure doesn't sound right, could something else be going on?
KJ con VERY gratulations on the Early Learning Grant. You've earned it. I marvel at the creative and educational activities you prepare for your charges.
Kay Would you remind me how your foot and ankle broke?
Meg delighted to hear you having fun this weekend. 'boutdamtime, gal!
Mary Holding itty bitty pooch in prayer and love, along with your daughter.
Barbie sorry for your and Bessie's pain.
Kardsharp con VERY gratulations for 23 days smoke free. You've got this!
Katla love your caregiver's to do bulletin board idea. Have seen similar at the Idaho Humane Society, with each dog its own column, each row a task. Safe travels to the Marina RV park. Say "Hi" To Cape Disappointment for us, we loved it. Hope the journey more sweet than bitter.
JanetR the protein shake meme really got me. Thanks!
Rye, Okie, Suebdew and all suffering from the heat, I feel for ya. It was the triple digits (and the 7 months of winter) that prompted our move from Boise, ID to Brookings OR.

Morning, did well at a restaurant yesterday, salad with grilled shrimp, no alcohol and yes I did exercise. I am still above my maintenance weight heading toward vacation in 2 weeks which isn’t great. Ah well I have to readjust what I snack on—wait-peanut butter out of the jar isn’t a great snack??
Gonna be a sticky day—I’ve got to get up and moving—take care ladies

Good morning all! Happy Tuesday! Today feels like a "back to normal" kind of morning. I started my day with a one minute plank, a few crunches, a few push ups, and a few non-kneeling/squatting leg exercises. Got my outdoor plants taken care of, got the trash to the curb...very normal morning. And it feels good.
Suebdew- Hello! You look wonderful! Your trip sounds like it was a great time and I can't wait to hear more about it!
Kardsharp- Welcome and congrats on the smoke free days! Quitting that bad habit is not easy; but you can do it!
Katla- Thanks for the kind words regarding my daycare. Safe travels to you as you continue your RV journey!
BArbie- So sorry to hear about Bessie! And you, too! At least you will have each other to recover with. Sending you thoughts and prayers of healing.
Mary- Poor pup! Sending good vibes/prayers his way!
Janet-lol...I saw that meme while I was on vacation last week and it made me giggle. I don't normally drink on a daily basis. It is a way that I "celebrate" vacation, though. I may have to rethink the drink, though. It sure adds calories to the day!
Meg- I am breathing a sigh of contentment at the thought of you taking care of yourself and having some fun! You really deserve some time to be happy!
Tracey- Gorgeous dress fitting photos! The vintage theme sounds cool. I will be waiting for those photos!
Rye- Ugh! The heat! My DD told me that when she and Joaquin landed at DFW, the temp was 109*!! The car was so hot, she stood in the 109* heat with Joaquin for about five minutes, while the air conditioning ran in the car and got it cool enough to put him in his seat. Stay cool and hydrated my friend!
BArbara- Transplanting a tree! That is a major undertaking! I bet you have burned hundreds of calories!
Heather- So hard to sort through memories! That is the kind of "decluttering" that takes me a Looooooong time. I get lost in the past!
Machka- So sorry for the added stress the caregiving company is giving you! Kind of odd that they are being so pushy about it!
Lisa- Thinking of you and your cleaning/settling into your new home! Sending clean thoughts!
Rori- I am pretty sure your adventures with your brother and hubby could be a movie! lol I bet you had many "are we crazy?" moments!
Well, time for me to get ready for the kiddos! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)4 -

Good Tuesday!
Yesterday started off an off day. Nothing like starting the morning at the GYN-ugh! Appointment went well, he is happy with my hormone state and calcium and Vitamin D intake. My DH likes the prescription the Dr gave me for lack of libido.......skip for TMI...he told me to have relations more often! He stated that if men don't get it, they crave it more. For women, if not often enough or satisfactory, they want it less.....DH is a happy man! LOL!
Got to work 1/2 hour late and never could get into the swing of things. I actually hung up on 2 customers because I forgot to hit the hold button first! Thank goodness they both called back! Made quick chili for dinner with leftover venison, cleaned kitchen, then folks came over so no cleaning last night. I love the way my living room feels right now and can't wait to tackle the rest! Not messy, just yucky.
CJ You are a strong woman! Glad you got to ride again. Puppies, kitties, and rainbows for your grand
Lisa Congratulations on your new home! I love following! So informative!
Machka You are doing an amazing job! DH is a lucky man! Remember to breathe a moment for yourself. It is easy to get into the support roll.
Rebecca You look amazing! Remember to rest!
I know there was more I wanted to say, but must finish getting ready for work. I am all caught up with you for at least the next 5 minutes!
Hugs! Congrats! Support!

I really need to do laundry.....I think I need to call in sick to work so I can work at home-lol! Not sure my boss aka my husband would agree!

Lisa thanks for the article. I have heard alzheimers described as diabetes of the brain. Again it reinforces the importance of sticking to this new diet for me. When I use the term diet I am using it as a term to mean the foods I chose to eat not in a negative context at all.
The advantage of fiber it slows down the digestion of food and helps with blood sugar levels. I have a friend who loves sweets and when she over does will walk and eat carrots. After reading that article it makes sense she is trying to compensate for her sweet tooth.
I had the signs of insulin resistance before I changed my diet. I am seeing steady improvement. My goal is to make a doctor's appointment at the 6 months point and see where my markers are then. I think he will be very pleasantly surprised.
It helps that a number of you also find yourself eating similar to me. Again it reinforces to me I am on the right track for me.

Kelly, congrats on the grant. Your creative mind will find wonderful things to do with the $$ that will benefit the children.
Heather, I have been decluttering memories since my mother died in 1991 and we moved into her house. We have moved four times since then and each move has allowed us to declutter more. It helped me to get comfortable with the notion that memories reside in my heart and not in "things". There are still more things but we've cleared a lot. It helps that Jake will listen to me talk about the memories that the things evoke so I can more easily discard them.
Machka, hugs to you as you slog through this difficult time.
My friend who had surgery two weeks ago is coming over today to go on a walk with me. She had to postpone her trip to Waco to continue clearing her mother's home and possessions. She is grateful to not be in the heat of Texas right now.
Katla, your visit with Arrow and your next RV adventure sound great.

It's all just an estimate.
And it's why many of us suggest eating only half your exercise calories back if you're trying to lose weight.

Ever looked at your calendar and thought, "There's a free hour in there! How did that get there? Must be some sort of mistake!"
Anyway, the caregiver organisation was supposed to put two people on right back in the beginning ... a main person and a back-up. Essentially they are trying to correct the mistake they made by putting only one person on. I understand what they are trying to do ... I was just completely and utterly unimpressed with the way they've gone about it. I think sometimes they forget that they are dealing with real people and not just schedules.

Lisa - thank you for sharing that article about avoiding alzheimers. Another reason to drop sugars and processed foods pronto.
Kelly - Loved hearing your good news yesterday - did you have a chance to go buy a lotto ticket?
Sue - welcome home and great photo, great memories for you!
Mary - what a sweetie taking that little dog to the vet. Does anyone know who the owner is or what will happen to it as it mends?
Enjoyed yesterday's - Episode 6 - presentation of Skinny on Fat series, especially presentation by Dr. Pompa. drpompa.com -- what he says about intermittent fasting really made sense to me and his website appears to have a lot of good information. Not sure I could ever embark on a 5 day water fast, but even fasting for 18+ hours from time to time (as some of you already do) is having great effects on overall health, not just weight loss.
Keep cool ladies!

Cheri How old are your folks?
Barbie You and Bessie both have sore backs? Hope you both heal up quickly.
Machka Hoping for a respite for you. Maybe you could utilize the extra help being offered to your advantage?
Mary Sweet pup, hope he heals quickly.
Kelly I got a little teary over your post. You deserve that grant and more. Congratulations. And I LOVE the sweet photo of Joaquin looking out the airplane window. Adorable boy.
Barbara No new pics of the small grandkids right now, but I have one of my 9 year old granddaughter, who is suddenly looking very grown up:
That dour looking fellow in the background is my ex, and the paternal grandfather of the girl in the photo. He has become such a good friend & usually doesn't have such a negative expression on his face, LOL!!!

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes for my son's dog Bentley. He got out of surgery just before midnight. He should make a full recovery! Although, he will have to wear the crown of shame for quite a while. Which some of you know is the plastic cone that goes around his head so he doesn't tear his bandages off. They are very happy that they had doggy insurance! Their bill will only be $250! He has to spend the day in the hospital.

No one is offering me any extra help.
It feels like every time I blink there's more I have to deal with ... more emails to write, more people to talk to on the phone (and I hate talking on the phone), more meetings, more paperwork to process. And I don't even have enough time and energy to find a secretary, which would be helpful. So unless a secretary drops out of the sky one day ... there is no extra help.
**She looks up, hopefully**
I just realised you might mean the "back-up" care worker ... she wouldn't be extra. They'd be cutting the hours of my really good, main care worker so that this back-up one could get some hours. Either that, or she'd just come here if for some my main care worker couldn't be here. But they would not both be here at the same time, nor would the number of hours of care be increased. So unless this "back-up" one is great with filing ... but I'm not sure she's actually supposed to be doing stuff like that. Many rules about what they can and cannot do.

I'm in Indiana this week helping my parent's go thru stuff in their house because they are downsizing to a senior community duplex home. Mom and I went thru 2 large closets upstairs and donated 2 carloads of stuff. Tomorrow 2 more closets. It's going to be a long week. I have dad in my ear saying he doesn't want to move and mom saying she's ready for the change. Gah...

P. S. My flight from Austin yesterday was delayed almost 2 hours as we sat in an extremely hot plane on the runway waiting for a contractor to show up and fix the fuel gage issue! Finally they served us ice water. It was over 100 degrees outside! Not that I like flying in the first place people!!
I don't envy you that task, my Brother and I had to deal with my Mom's house a few years ago. What a lot of work.

Thanks for sharing that article, I will have to take time to read it. My Mom was diagnosed as a diabetic in 1997 at 51 years of age. She started showing signs of dementia in 2012 although my Brother and I didn't catch on fully until late 2013 (My Dad was sick and then passed, so we thought it was stress). She was diagnosed fully with Alzheimers in 2017 (the medical system sure moves slow) In late 2016 my Brother had to take over my mom's meals completely. When he did this within about 9 months he had her down to a healthy weight and off all meds for diabetes. She had been up to 4 insulin shots a day. We have noticed that the Alzheimers seemed to slow down a little bit in the last few months since, not an improvement at all, but a slow down at least.

Hi Group...would love to join in! I am 61 and looking to lose 60 pounds. I weigh in on Wednesdays (officially but sneak peek a couple of times a week. I am on day 16. down almost 4 pounds and pretty happy about it! I am loving being back on MFP and getting back into great self-habits again. But geez...I sure have been snappy and cranky. Is it the changes in diet and exercise?6

Machka - Over here we have a charity called Headway, for people with brain injury. Do you have a similar one? I would think they might be helpful with paperwork. My friend with cancer found that the cancer charities were enormously helpful negotiating her way through red tape, finances etc.
I think k I've just upset my DSIL because she was going to do a bbq for our visit at the weekend and I said I much preferred charcoal to the gas grill. (In fact I can't see any point in the gas variety and I LOVE the flavour of charcoal ).She said she was cancelling the bbq!!!! Oooops.
Solicitor's stuff still hasn't arrived. Must be 4th class post. We have rung them. Grrrrrrrrrr!
Did yet another box of stuff today. My contracts, letters and reviews to do with all my children's books. Winnowed it down a bit so it fits in the filing cabinet. Lovely to reread appreciative letters from children. Correspondence from publishers. Compliments always warm the heart. I've thrown away rejections!
