as far as e-bikes go, we're a novice too. when i go home, i'll find out what kind we got and how much it was. kirby does research and then picks the one that he thinks is best for us. he wanted to get me one but i didn't want to. what we did is we had the seat post measured/marked for me and for him, so in case i ever wanted to ride it, we could adjust the seat post for me, then change it back for him., i think i've ridden it once.2 -
Lanette Keep us posted as you experiment with intermittent fasting and low-ish carb intake. Does 12/3 refer to fasting 12 hours and stop eating 3 hours prior to bedtime?
Machka & Rebecca I believe in advocates for patients, preferably a family member. No health care worker, regardless of how competent, has the personal knowledge of the patient that a family member advocate has.

pip- thanks! We're going to check out two types tomorrow. One is Townie Go the other Trek Conduit. Both are a bit spendy $2,500-$3,000. I've seen e-bikes as low as $350. So there's a big difference in price. We do want a quality bike that we will ride mostly on bike paths from 40-60 miles round trip.

Karen - yes, the 12/3 I refer to is 12 hours between night meal and first meal next day, with evening meal done 3 hours before bedtime. That's a hard one for me, lol. But at least I'm having a few nuts and not 2 snickers bars!
I ran across a pretty good article by Dr. Mercola on Fasting with an interview with Valter Longo regarding Intermittent, Water and Fasting Mimicking : https://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2018/01/02/fasting-mimicking-calorie-restriction.aspx
Thought it was interesting that Longo doesn't advocate going over 14 hours because of gall bladder attacks! I don't have mine anymore, but I know of three people who lost weight rapidly and ended up having their gallbladders removed. HHmm.... the interview barely scratches the surface in many areas, I'm sure, but overall was educational in my opinion.
By the way, by just eliminating simple sugars and starches from my diet, eating a small avocado with my supper salad each day which might also include salmon, chicken, roast beef, ham, hardboiled egg, etc, I am steadily losing over a pound a week - along with daily walking from 6000 to 8000 steps and strength training 3 x per week. Carbs per day are generally between 90 and 120 gm, fiber over 30 gm, and sugars under 40 mostly from fruits, yogurt, some veggies. Protein generally under 70 gm. Healthy fats between 80 and 90 gm. I'm going for 50%.
Pretty painless so far, lol.

I just saw someone one is on a similar diet to me. She calls it a nutritarian diet. It is a phrase coined by Dr. Fuhrman. The basics of the diet is to go for foods which give you the most nutrirents. She noticed I had lost weight and she is too following a diet similar to mine. Hers is more plants based than mine. The bottom line is to decide what you eat by how it nourishes your body.

Hi Sisters, Day Four of my "Wendy Fast" and I'm feeling good. I start the day with a weigh in and bask in the joy of seeing another pound melt off, then I try on some more of my jeans and ones I could not zip up yesterday, today I can. WHoop! (Still some that I can't even get on yet-which motivates me to keep fasting. LOL)
LIBIDO- That is specifically what I asked my doctor about when I went in for blood tests, but he was useless. First, he refused to do a saliva test which actually measures estrogen and progesterone, then he randomly put me on a form of estrogen, which as soon as I did my research, I immediately stopped taking.
Doctors are being taught at medical school (strongly influenced by rich, powerful, pharmaceutical companies) that estrogen is the cure for old ladies. Not so.
My reading and research has clued me up to the real cure for libido and staying youthful in general. Here are the books I recommend: What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause by Dr. John R. Lee and The Hormone Solution by Dr. Thierry Hertoghe. If you want scientific research, reasoning and proof, read these books.
If you want to cut to the chase, use natural progesterone cream, ( wild yam cream or the converted form, either one) and take Vitex Agnes and Evening Primrose Oil. These both boost your Progesterone which is the real culprit in menopause and aging. Also, get your thyroid levels checked out although boosting P will help those too. P will also help normalize your testosterone levels as your body can convert it to testosterone as needed. Um, as for extensive foreplay, I am definitely in favour! LOL But if you want to regain your youthful enthusiasiam then boost the right hormones and you might feel like getting back into the game. Wendy3 -

Snowflake, I know I have seen mention of that problem but I will have to look back through some of my reference books. I will get back to you on that one.
I am a lifelong learner, and a student of many different subjects that fascinate me. Youthing is one of them. Horse Gentling another. We will never know it all or perfectly, IMO, but if we keep an open mind and study the latest information, we can make informed choices. For awhile, I thought, what's the use, the scientists keep changing their minds every year or two and there is so much conflicting advice.
Now, I have a worldview that is much more eye-opened. We are being confused on purpose by people who are only interested in making themselves rich, and don't care about health or truth. Therefore, we must look at WHO has paid for research and WHAT questions are being looked at, and WHAT research isn't even making it to the medical journals and schools, BECAUSE of WHO has the money to pay for research and to pay for the medical journals. The people in power or very very strong and good at controlling the information we little people have access to, and even when someone tells us the truth, the powerful ones mix it and confuse it as much as possible. The medical system, surgery, medicines etc is a BUSINESS. They have Spin Doctors and Advertising Gurus who are selling us short to keep us hooked into their system. I'm opting out, LOL Wendy PS: Great book to read: How Not To Die, by Dr. Michael Gregor. He is a doctor who has pulled back the curtain of secrecy to reveal hidden agendas.2 -

Did Peak Fit Challenge DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Peak Cardio Strength DVD.

Kylea. I absolutely believe that animals know when they feel better. They don’t understand the specifics. We had a cat who was diabetic. He would come to us when he needed his insulin. I firmly believe that he associated the insulin with his feeling better. I bet Mandy IS feeling better
Ditto what Karen in VA said about health care workers
Kind of slow day today. Exercised, Vince picked up his battery compartments from the library while I mailed a DVD and then he went to the ATM. Ceramics tonight, I think I have one of the flamingoes finished and Monday I’ll probably finish up the other one. Worked some on the crab. Bought gas (so I have enough to get to the first gas station on the way to Jess’), now home. Exciting, huh?

Awake really early, mind churning about house stuff. Thank goodness for running. I've had a banana and I'm heading out of the door in a minute.
Nutrition is, of course, vitally important for a healthy life, but studies have shown consistently that the best thing you can do for your health is regular, vigorous exercise. It truly is the magic pill for bones, blood pressure, blood sugar, Alzheimers, heart, chloresterol, libido, depression etc etc. I don't mean 10, 000 steps, I mean getting your heart rate up high for a regular period of time until you are out of breath and exerting yourself until your muscles ache. Plus some strength training with weights or body weight. All you need for any of this is a pair of trainers.
I believe food should be a celebration of life and is to be relished and enjoyed, preferably in company. I am currently eating 1800 calories a day of delicious, nourishing food, no c÷×p, and I'm still slowly losing weight at a bmi of 24. I eat three meals a day, plus an afternoon snack.
For those of you who are new, I only started running in January and I LOVE it. I have always had a very dodgy left knee, which made me think I couldn't run, but I have found that not to be true. I also exercise on my gym machines every day. I am following Younger Next Year for Women and Slimmer Next Year. Good science.
I consider I eat a "normal" diet. I just don't eat rubbish. Lots of vegetables and fruit. No bottles, refined flours, hardly any added sugar. Protein, good fats, vegetables, salads, fruit. Whole grains a bit. Legumes. Dairy. Some people would call it Mediterranean. I just think it's delicious.
Plus I move. Vigorously.
For the new people, I am 68, so no spring chicken.

Lanette: When we were active boaters we came to Cathlamet many times with our sailing club. This is our second visit by land, rather than by river. We will likely be back from time to time. :flowerforyou:
Pip: Don't forget to send me the information on donating to the MS ride.
Heather: I am inspired by all that you have managed to accomplish with your own health, book writing, and adventure travel. You are amazing. :flowerforyou:
I've been having problems with some sort of callous or growth on my left little toe. I plan to call my doctor as soon as we get home to get a referral to a foot specialist. The toe is swollen and painful. I had surgery on the little toe of my right foot many years ago. I'm fairly sure that doctor has retired by now.

Hi Sisters, I had so much fun today! I took myself treasure hunting. Here in NZ, the thrift stores are called Opportunity Shops, so I went Op Shop Hopping, as we call it. On my list was searching for cotton fabrics suitable for the quilt I am making the grandbaby my youngest daughter is expecting. Also I was looking for fake fur fabric to use as a covering for my saddle to give it a medieval look. I always keep my eyes open for interesting books and anything else that serendipitously catches my attention. I also hit our local homeware store to get a stainless steel frypan as I have thrown out all our poisonous non-stick ones, because I don't want to ingest the toxins in them. At the homeware store, I bought a cute little flying pig mug.
I did find a suitable fake fur for my saddle, as well as two fur vests I can wear while riding and I found a gorgeous Indian Princess dress full of sparkling jewels for my granddaughter. She loves to dress up. (Don't know where she got that from) Also scrored some interesting books and nice quilt fabrics. The point of all of this shopping extravaganza was to distract me as well as reward me, which is all part of my fasting strategy. I have taken pics of my treasures and will upload them later as they are "failing to upload" right now for some inexplicable reason.
I have had my two walnuts in honey today and nothing else, but I am going to prepare myself a broth tonight as the highlight of Wendy's Health Spa and Fasting Retreat. I will put my carrot and celery and spinach in my broth as well as garlic and onion. My body is telling me it needs salt so I will give it some in the broth. I am so good to my body!

Snowflake, I have found one possible explanation of excess hair growth on page 109 of The Hormone Solution by Dr.Thierry Hertoghe: "Hair under the nose, on the chin, breasts, lower abdomen, thighs, leg and arms is often blamed on excess male hormones, but in reality it is more likely to occur in women low in estrogen. They are likely to also have soft, weak muscles and be tired and depressed. They might also be low in testosterone but have at the same time greater deficiencies in the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. Sometimes a lack of cortisol is to blame, as it triggers an increased secretion of male hormones to compensate. Taking hormone supplements lessons, or even erases, the growth of undesirable hair. To get good results, you must make sure you are eating enough calories and address any digestive problems. It takes six months of treatment to start noticing a decrease in unwanted hair, and one to four years to have complete results, because a body-hair follicle stays about four years in the skin."
If any of this applies to you, perhaps you should get the book, highlight the relevant sections and take it to your doctor for further discussion and saliva testing of your hormone levels. Wendy1 -
Here is the delightful dress I bought my granddaughter:
Here is my Pigs Do Fly mug:
My new blue snowscenes shopping bag:
And my fur vests for medieval riding:
I have just had my broth and it was Heavenly. I had it with a homemade AF red wine. I created my wine with water, 1 tsp of beet juice and 1 tsp of pomengranate juice. It's great to know I can have as many "wines" as I like with no consequences other than having to pee pinkly. Wendy

Wendy - Ooooh, that dress is gorgeous! My tiny princess would love it!
Finished my tax return, 3 months early! I know I would forget all about it once we've moved. Just got to get it in the post now.
Other good news is that our purchasers do want us to leave the huge fridge and freezer for them. They are very grateful.
We don't want any money for them as they are over 7 years old. Must defrost the freezer soon and clean the ovens as we are leaving the range cooker. Much better than having to dump them or take them all the way to Hove where they don't fit. I am trying to find a suitable one for the new place, but the space is an odd measurement. Grrrrrrrrrr! Not quite wide enough for a side by side. Too wide for a single. The vendors have two small freezers in the utility room.
Will tackle another box this pm.
The Oxfam man, who collects our books will also take my old cell phones for recycling for the charity.

Heather Now you've got me curious. What is the width of the space you've got for your refrigerator? And are you looking for counter depth or standard depth?0

Good morning ladies! Happy Thursday! I am down two of the pounds that I gained over vacation! Whoopee! I am still not eating the way, I should, though. So I need to get on that and get it back under control. We have a LOT of "snacky" foods left that DD bought. With the doors not painted and replaced on my cupboards, I am finding it VERY difficult to ignore what is in my cupboards. I have to finish mowing my lawn tonight and will finish painting my cupboards on Friday night and get them remounted on Saturday! I have left the weekend for placing my daycare grant order and doing food prep for the week. I am looking forward to both!
Wendy- Darling, darling dress for your granddaughter!! Are those little golden pants that go under the dress (folded below dress in photo)? Can't wait to see the medieval clothing on you as you are posed on your horses!
Heather- Do you have a tentative move in date for your new place?
Rori- So happy to hear that your visit with DB has been a good one! Sometimes it is hard to have company while you are caring for some one.
Lanette, Margaret, Mary and all - I really enjoy reading about your meal plans and how you are handling getting what your body needs. It inspires me to get "back on the wagon" in regards to healthy choices!
Machka and Pip- You both are steadfast in your workouts! THAT is inspiring to me, also! I need to get back to that mentality and as Heather says, I need to work on my cardio and getting my heart rate up. I have been walking as exercise, due to my knee and ankles, but it really doesn't do much for me physically since I have an active job, already. I think it is time to push myself. Pip, bring on the boot!
Well, time for me to fly. We are in the middle of Adventure Space week and I have to cut out the outlines of the space shuttles we are making today. The boys are really enjoying our week so far. They are like little sponges and just soak up everything! ttfn my friends! xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)5 -
Happy Thursday!
Wendy- Thank you for the suggestions! I screen printed the book titles and will check them out. Actually the information about estrogen and facial hair was helpful too! My estrogen levels were ALWAYS low. I have been waxing that infuriating mustache since I was 12! The last few months it is slowing down....may finally have those levels where they need to be. Will check out the reading though. You amaze me! Love your purchases.
No cleaning done last night. Last minute change of plans. Went and saw Mama Mia with a friend while the husbands worked on the Model A. It was good. Not sure was good enough for full price tickets, but she has passes. Was relaxing.
Still logging. Down 2 pounds from starting weight this month. Not quite back to end of May point, but closer!
Time to head to work.....I hope your day is blessed with laughter and joy!

Karen - It's too short for a really tall fridge and too narrow for an American style side by side. 179.5 H × 80 W. cms. Whatever I buy there will be unsightly gaps.
KJ - No dates yet. I'm not ordering anything until we've exchanged contracts, when you more or less know it's definite.
It could still all fall through.
Still really HOT here.

Morning ladies
I am home and staying in bed..as Heather would say I am knackered...just totally wiped out..so I am taking a rest day have the sick time to cover ..so just going to relax and sleep.3 -
Heather yes I would say we are on the same page with diet. For me it is a question to keep on this track. I too am noticing how delicious good whole food is like the peach I had yesterday. I love what you said about exercise too. It is definitely part of the health package. That is one reason I could not totally endorse the woman who is promoting Bright Line Eating. Her program only focuses on the eating portion and encourages you not to exercise at first. I do like most of her ideas about diet though. Her suggestion to bring a scale to a friend's home to make sure you stay on track was not for me. It works for her what she needs and she is doing well on her diet plan. Go for it I say.
Wendy I agree it is important to question the source of your information and who pays for the research. Right now as you tell by my posts I am drawn to learning about our microbiology and the effect it has on our health. I am particularly interested in how food choice effects it.
I do understand we are complex creatures and many of the systems that we live in are complex. When you change something in the system the results are not always what you expect. I also sometimes think science gets ahead of itself. The example I am thinking of is GMO's. The intention was good. It was to produce food in a more efficient way. No one or the voice was not heard asked is this food more nutritious and what effect will it have on the environment and our health. When I bought my non GMO corn at the farmers market I thanked the vendor for the sake of the butterflies and for my own health. I do think the name Europeans give it is apt. "Frankenfood". We know how that story played out.
