I try to eat low carb because that's my nemesis but I love fruit and 1 medium apple has 20g carb, but I've had no bread, pasta etc.

Kate - I wondered if you watched the Skinny on Fat series. Glad they are replaying it, I know I missed at least one episode and I want to see more of the "bonus interviews". Way to go on your intermittent fasting!! I want to go at least 14 hours today. Stomach growing right now (12 hours) but I am just going to "ride the wave" lol. I think it's true, if a person is busy they can put the hunger behind them.
Got my mile walk in this morning and found a nice private lane along my route, so did four 20 second jags of running in place there - no cars dodging me and no "audience" lol . It was a grassy lane so much easier on my feet than running on pavement. I think I found the perfect waterproof winter walking shoes - Muck shoes. I have an old pair I wear outside to walk the dogs and garden, but bought a new pair this week, a little different style. Price was quite reasonable - about the same as regular running shoes (lower end). They are a little roomy which is great - there will be room for my pressure relieving insoles.
Wendy - you have a LOT of things to get done all at once. Major looks quite formidable, wasn't he just a wiggly little puppy a few weeks ago? Yes, the cop is lucky your Chihuahua didn't get him. If I was close by I'd gladly babysit your expectant mare when the time comes.
Machka - thank you again for sharing the story of your DH and his healing and caregiver challenges. Gives us a glimpse of what might be facing us some day as either the patient or caretaker.
Barbie - so sorry to hear about your back! It WILL get better - glad your chiro has you scheduled for more sessions. Someone in this group - Dana maybe? - recommended the Aleve Direct Therapy TENS unit when my back was on the fritz last year. That's my new best friend when my back goes out because it allows me to get in and out of the car and out of a chair without excruciating pain.
Dana - glad you are back home, bet your DH and Dolly are excited to have you all to themselves again.
Overcast and cool right now so racing around getting some watering done and have windows open getting fresh air in. We'll see in the 90's today through Monday the way it looks. Only good thing is that tomatoes are finally starting to ripen. And brown lawn (other than a few dandelions) means no mowing.
Have a good day ladies!

Make it easier on yourselves by ...
-- making sure all affairs are in order. I've been working on that for months now, and it is still an uphill battle. I think Allie is going through the same sort of thing with her father. I know we've commented on this before, but wow, is it ever time consuming.
-- making sure you're fit and healthy. My mother was a nurse, and so she explained the term "dead weight" to me. But it wasn't until I had to support my husband during the days when he was just starting to get out of bed that I fully realised what "dead weight" feels like. Even just his arm weighed a ton!! He weighed about 80 kg, so if you divide that up between torso, legs, and arms, that's still a decent amount of weight for each part. I can't lift him, but I've built up some strength so that I feel like I could at least support him and lower him to the ground if he collapsed.
-- having a look at options around you. What would you do for groceries? In my case, I've got a small grocery store just down the road, several within walking distance of where I work, and inexpensive grocery delivery. What if you couldn't drive? If you have never used public transportation, try it now while you're still able. What about things like doctor's offices? Hospitals? All the stuff you use? Is it scattered around and difficult to get to or quite convenient?
-- is your house well set up? Thankfully, our main living area is all on one level. We did live in a 2-storey house when we first moved here, but I am so glad we've moved to a one-level house. That's one thing my parents have done ... they've moved into a much more accessible home before they really needed it, but they're starting to find that they need it.
--do you have resources? People who can offer assistance? Knowledge of how to find people like, say, TV antenna repair people, mechanics, etc.? Do you know about services in your area which can help?
We're over 50 now ... we've got to start thinking of these things. And I know I certainly didn't expect to have to do that at the age of 51!!!

Allie your food choices sound delicious!
Macha great advice! Here having the power of attorney takes tremendous pressure off. It helps financially, medically, and legally.1 -
Such a busy group to keep up with, I think I'm starting to get it though!
Allie - I feel for you with the mess of your Dad's estate. Although I have not had to do anything because of the land my brother was inheriting he had quite the financial mess to clean up. My Mom is still alive but was diagnosed with Alzheimer's (considered early onset) shortly after my Dad passed and he just managed to pay their mortgage off this year. It has been quite a financial struggle for him.
Janet - What beautiful great granddaughters. I remember when my eldest was born making my Grandmother a Great. She said, and I later found she also wrote it in her diary. "I have always been a great Grandmother, but today I officially earned the title, GREAT Grandmother". I bet it is a wonderful feeling!
Heather - I hope you are able to get rid of your huge cupboard soon. That will not be a fun thing to have to move. Hope you have a nice visit at your SIL's.
Wendy - I have a healthy respect for all dogs, that police officer is braver than I. I would have been sitting in the car waiting for you to appear.
Barbie - I hope your back is better soon.
Lisa - How nice that your sister and nieces are visiting to help with your house. It sounds like fun, even with the lack of healthy knees.
Rebecca - I have been there with the low budget and limited food in the house. I too have used it as an opportunity to use up the "scraps". I loved your story about the pudding. I personally am not a sweet eater, I had a friend though that has been known to make chocolate frosting when she's suffering with a craving. I think pudding is a healthier option.
Wendy - Oh projects and passions! I have 5 or 6 projects in my head that I want to start and yet I find myself sitting every evening and not doing anything because the thoughts of choosing which one to start is overwhelming! I really need to get on this though I can't believe how fast the year is going and a few of these are Christmas Present ideas. One Christmas project will involve going through all the old family mementos... could be getting into two at once.
Michele - It's good that Vince is worrying about you and concerned. I don't think my husband would even notice if something was wrong with me most times.
Okie - I laughed out loud at your description of the "countertop" in your husband's shop. My husband is the same way. He organizes his shop fairly often but never puts things back in place when he uses it. I have my own toolbox for this reason.
Kelly - Do you have the child on both days on the weekend regularly? Does this mean you never get a day off? I'm not so sure I would like that long term. I either have a visit or babysit my grandchildren every Sunday leaving me only Saturday's to myself, which usually ends up being my cleaning day. I find when I get two days I just relish them so much!
Machka - One level house - we had friends that drove team as transport drivers. They built a house when they were around 45 years of age. She was adamant that the doors were accessible for wheelchairs, had ramps put in for the decks and porch, just really put a lot of thought into it for accessibility. Everyone told her she was being foolish and spending more than they needed to at the time. Lo and behold about 5 years after they built the house, they had an accident and she ended up in a wheelchair for the next two years. He had a lot of head injuries, similar to your husband. They were able to be at home easier because they were all set up for it including a spare room for caretakers. She was a lesson for a lot of people.
My daughter was in a car accident yesterday, I am so grateful that she only had bumps, bruises and scratches from the airbag deploying. I just talked to her she is stiff and sore today, but not as bad as she was fearing. Her car will probably be written off but that is minor compared to what could have happened to her.
This will be the first weekend in July that my husband and I are both off. I'm trying to figure out something to do, but I think we will just putter around the house. We are going away next weekend and I would prefer to keep my money for that.
Happy Friday everyone

Lisa, TV, audio books and meditation have been helpful
Allie, Lisa is right. You have to do what meets your standards. You have to be able to look at yourself in the mirror and feel good about your actions. Thank you for the kind words about my pain.
Rebecca, thanks for the reminder that time is my friend. I know and your hubby have gone through major health challenges and come out the other side.
Wendy, all your interests are amazing. I have found that a regular meditation practice has helped me stay more focused on one thing at a time. I have been reading and watching TV, but right now the pain is overtaking everything.
Heather, thank you for the virtual hugs. Congrats on your continued AF days. You have found some very creative solutions.
Okie, thank you for the kind words. I hope your toes heal soon so you can be back to walking.
Michele, I'm in so much pain right now that even knitting doesn't sound good but maybe when I'm a little better.
Kelly, Jake is out walking the dogs this morning. He agreed to meet up with my walking friend so the dogs could see her. The dogs love her and have missed being with her. Then he has to take Bessie to the vet and later me to the chiropractor. He is also doing laundry.
Lanette, I told the chiropractor that I was going to be her new best friend, coming to see her daily til I felt better. I have heard about the TENS unit from others. Our weather here has been warm and Jake is doing the watering.

Today I went with husband into town, and he dropped me off in old town. He went to the library, and I walked in the sun. I went thru some thrift shops, and played my piano in the gallery. Some ladies told me thank you, that had made their day! My day is complete at 12 noon!👍
My son and I get along so well, I think he forgets I'm his mother. Last night I was in the middle of spaghetti making, and he wanted me to listen/watch a new Linkin Park video. We chatted about the lyrics, and main singer that took his own life a bit ago. Then we watched a funny video of a Star Wars clip. I then told him to pause it, gotta stir the sauce! Later last night, I hugged him goodnight, and he let me have some sweet tarts. I am constantly telling him we are blessed we get along so well. I also remind him that communication is a two way street. If we do something he has questions about, to also tell us straight up.
Have a great day ladies!

Rebecca ~ My DH got a call today from his dr. He too has excess calcium buildup and the dr. mentioned that if it continues he might need the surgery you had. They want to watch it carefully because he has had blood clots from prior surgeries and they don't want that to happen.

Good Morning, Evening, Afternoon Sisters, It is Day 6 of the Wendy Fast. I can't believe how fast (pun intended) the time is flying. Winter (in NZ) is a good time to fast because it is dark early and I can get to bed and sleep through my fasting time. In summer, I'm outside till the last drop of light fades away, working on one of my many projects. I rarely sit and watch the TV in the evenings. I prefer reading. Last night, I worked on my quilting project while my husband watched TV. I was struggling with my old Singer sewing machine that I haven't used in over ten years. I had loaned it to my daughter and she gave it back when they moved...I discovered that it was missing the lower bobbin and the foot raiser switch was broken off. I have a couple of decorative vintage Singers and I managed to use a bobbin off one of them. I couldn't remember how to thread it, but after watching some youtube and sourcing an online manual, I managed. Then the needle kept catching and I had to figure out what was wrong, adjusting tension and every friggin knob, rethreading, re bobbining (I just made that up-I love it when I create new words-LOL) Having to stand up and carefully raise the broken switch as it has jagged edges every time I needed to lift the foot...But after a frustrating struggle I managed to get it working in a reasonable manner. I would definitely get a new machine if I was planning on much more sewing but I have decided that after this quilt I am going to say NO and focus on my other creative interests and keep my To Do list smaller. (My daughter begged me to make a "horse" quilt for her first child.)
Last night, as the highlight of Wendy's Health Spa, I drank a luscious smoothie as I took my supplements. I put a pear, banana, handful of blueberries, handful of spinach, dash of beet juice and pomengranite juice and almond milk into it. And I gave half of it to my husband. This morning I had dropped down 2 more pounds and my skinnier jeans are becoming easier to put on. Still can't get into my skinniest jeans yet, so I will continue on my quest.
Kate, my belief about a low-carb/keto diet is that it is partially right: cut out the pasta, grain and rice and any baked goodies. But I disagree in cutting out fruits and I'm also in favour of all veggies including potatoes. Fruits have got so many important health boosting properties that I immediately showed signs of illness when I tried the keto diet for a couple of months. One author I like is Kimberly Snyder, and she is all about eating in a way that provides your body nutrients while speeding and easing your digestion. She says that meat is very slow to digest and uses up your body's energy that could be used on detoxing and keeping your cells younger. Losing weight is one thing-staying healthy while you do it is another.
Barbie, sorry to hear that your pain is so severe. There are lots of different ways to relieve pain while your body heals but time is always the best healer. Nikola Tesla used a light-electric pulser to heal his body after he got hit by a bus and badly injured. You can order his invention off Amazon and treat yourself at home. You can also help yourself by learning acupressure points on your body to press.
Kellie, my piano-sister, I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my love for Clair. I also like to play Fur Elise. I have a much easier version of Fur, but my Clair music is a bit complicated for me. My mother is a great pianist and she tried to teach me as a child, but I preferred to ride my horse rather than practice my lessons. LOL. However, I loved listening to her practice every night for hours. I paid for all of my daughters to take piano lessons but only my oldest inherited the musical gene. I am teaching myself slowly. My left hand is far behind my right, in its knowledge. Practicing the piano puts me into an extremely creative zone asI have to focus intently and it uses parts of my brain that are cobwebbed and dusty. As for the summons, I have emailed the cop in charge to see if I can get out of it. The jury duty is for selection. I don't want to do that either, but I will do what I have to.
Snowflake, our property is large and the policeman parked in front of our garage (a long way from the house) then walked up a path to our house to knock on the door. Then he came out onto the deck when I didn't answer because I was up at the barn, on the other side of our orchard. Major was somewhere in our acre of garden and I'm sure he and the cop did not see each other until that moment. Major doesn't bark at most of the men (my husband's friends) who come and we get lots of friends visiting, but a stranger in a uniform elicited his warning bark.
Lanette, Major still thinks he is a wriggly little puppy!

Oh sorry to hear! Have his doctor check his vitamin D levels too! I had low levels so was put on a 5000 iu daily, until I had my surgery. My blood pressure was high too, and its gone down to 132/83 now instead of the 150's. Its amazing how your body adapts to this disease, hiperparathyroidism.3 -

Barbie, two more things I thought of: Add cumin to your food or chew cumin seeds. It is a natural pain killer. Also magnesium oil is great to relieve pain.
I'm off to do the morning chores. Will check in later, Wendy2 -
Hi all,
Just checking in. Getting ready for a read and then turn out the light. All is well at my DSIL. We had a lovely roast lamb and salad out in the garden, and just managed to eat the first course before it rained. I had a large glass of real champagne, then switched to rosé AF. Hasn't rained for months, go figure.
We stopped off on the way at a stately home with great old pictures, furniture and Chinese ceramics. The garden was very parched though.
Just squeaked under calories for the day. Don't think I will tomorrow. Correction, I know I won't tomorrow. In case I wake up early I've lined up tea making equipment and a banana. I always wake up hours before anyone else and I'm starving. No vigorous exercise tomorrow, just some walking.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx4 -

Wendy, I have been thinking about your overwhelming list and how you might accomplish what's on it. At the beginning of the year I made a list called "18 for 2018" and included things I wanted to do during the year. The list has some easy to accomplish things and some that will take days, weeks, or months. Next for whatever I wanted to start on, I broke it down into smaller pieces (buy the yarn, find the pattern, etc.) so I could accomplish something in a day and be able to cross it off the day's list easily. Good luck on all your great projects. Thanks for the pain relief tips.
Rebecca, you are amazingly fortunate to have such a great relationship with your son.

(((Barbie))) I am so sorry that you are still in pain. Sending healing thoughts your way. :flowerforyou:
Pip: You look splendid relaxing in a chair with your red beverage cup.
We are home after our RV adventure! It was a good experience and we learned a lot about how to do things so we can be comfortable. We have a lovely awning, but were in a breezy location so DH put a reinforcing strap over the middle of the awning to take the strain off of the awning. It worked well. I washed the outside of the windhshield one day & did the inside of the windshield the next day. We were parked beside a couple who have Labrador Retrievers that they compete in retrieving competitions. They had mom and a pup with them. Mom is already a champion and pup is just getting started. The woman hurt herself during the first day of the competition and had to go to the emergency room. She wound up on crutches, but kept on with the competition anyway. I was impressed with her determination and her love for the sport.
I walked and walked during our stay in Cathlamet, WA. It is a cute little town beside the Columbia River. We haven't been there in a few years and several of the businesses we enjoyed in the past are not in business any more. I walked up the hill into town to the grocery store several times. I definitely got my steps in every single day. We didn't take a car along on this trip. We can't tow either of our cars because they are too heavy for a trailer and are front wheel drive vehicles that don't do well under tow. DH used his mobility cart and I walked and . . .

I wrote this response on Wednesday but was unable to post it because my router shorted out. Shortly following that I realized my house was feeling too warm. The air conditioner was replaced last year. I hated the thought of dealing with the man that installed it. He made me very uncomfortable asking all sorts of personal questions about my single status. I eventually lied to him and said I had a boyfriend. I called my daughter and she sent her boyfriend over to deal with him when it was repaired today.
Yesterday hit 104 and it was 95 in the house. The water in the pool was 92. I had no appetite, so didn’t eat all day. I picked up a new router today and easily installed it this evening. So glad to have everything working again.
- Lanette, yes, I have been following the keto diet since Sept. 2016. I don’t drink bulletproof coffee or eat fat bombs.
I have coffee with heavy cream in the morning and 2 meals with no snacks. Carbs average 30 - 50 gm from avocado, tomato, onion, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, bell pepper, and leafy greens. Proteins average 60 - 80 gm to preserve muscle mass. I cook with good fats but don’t add extra just to increase fats.
I rarely cooked prior to retirement and am now learning. Even before the web series, I was making my own mayonnaise with avocado oil and using it for homemade dressing. I read nutrition labels to avoid added sugars and bad oils. There are only a few commercial mayonnaise that aren’t made from vegetable oils.
My favorite resource for very low carb recipes is Kristie Sullivan. She has 2 cookbooks and a you tube channel - Cooking Keto with Kristie. Her recipes include catsup and barbeque sauces.
The advantages of being in Ketosis is reduced hunger and cravings and I have good energy. I have no medical issues so I follow Keto to maintain my weight, plus I really enjoy the food. I avoid sugar, all grains, beans and starchy vegetables. I can easily stay on plan when eating out.

Barbie, thanks for that excellent suggestion. I am going to go through my list and break each goal into smaller bits, as small as I can make them so that I can take a little action at a time. I keep thinking of things that I need to add to that list too.
I have just finished my morning chores and taken Jock for a short walk up the road and back. I put on my fitbit that i found yesterday while looking for the missing sewing machine part. I have clocked up over 7200 steps from doing the morning chores. I am walking the full length of the paddocks in order to move the electric fences to give the horses a fresh "break" of long grass.
I am heading out shortly to clean the stall and do some gardening in between the rainbursts. Last night I had to get up around midnight to write down some of the creative ideas that were keeping me awake. Instead of sleeping, my brain was busy imagining the "landscapes" that I will be painting family members for Christmas gifts. They are also painting a landscape to give me. I was feeling grumpy because I felt the subject matter was boring and uninspiring, (I didn't choose it!) but I have found an angle that excites me. Last year, our theme was Rainbow Horses and I think I posted some pics on here of what I came up with. I'm not sure if it was the fasting or the piano practice or the combination that fertilized my mind so much, but I've got some oddly original ideas noted down.
And this morning, along with my morning Moffee (hot chocolate, coffee, honey, cinnamon and blackstrap mollasses) I sat down at my computer and wrote the next scene in my Teen Fantasy. That started my day off on the right foot. I seem to fill my bucket up, up, up until it can't help but overflow and come out in some creative way. Wendy5 -
Cathy, you look fantabulous. You look like the kind of person I just want to go up and hug no matter what weight you are. Wendy3

Me too, had an unexpected drive right back into the city when I got home. Only stopped long enough to use the washroom. Ended up getting McDonalds because I was starving and needed fast. Between swimming, the driving and helping lift I should be ok.2
