Morning ladies, humid and rainy day here, but got myself off to raise that heart rate and pushed myself on the eliptical machine today
Had a lovely week of social interaction so far with work and retired colleagues, but now i am ready to go back to puttering and enjoying my "me" time!

Lanette: When we were active boaters we came to Cathlamet many times with our sailing club. This is our second visit by land, rather than by river. We will likely be back from time to time. :flowerforyou:
Pip: Don't forget to send me the information on donating to the MS ride.

Good morning ladies! Happy Thursday! I am down two of the pounds that I gained over vacation! Whoopee! I am still not eating the way, I should, though. So I need to get on that and get it back under control. We have a LOT of "snacky" foods left that DD bought. With the doors not painted and replaced on my cupboards, I am finding it VERY difficult to ignore what is in my cupboards. I have to finish mowing my lawn tonight and will finish painting my cupboards on Friday night and get them remounted on Saturday! I have left the weekend for placing my daycare grant order and doing food prep for the week. I am looking forward to both!
Wendy- Darling, darling dress for your granddaughter!! Are those little golden pants that go under the dress (folded below dress in photo)? Can't wait to see the medieval clothing on you as you are posed on your horses!
Heather- Do you have a tentative move in date for your new place?
Rori- So happy to hear that your visit with DB has been a good one! Sometimes it is hard to have company while you are caring for some one.
Lanette, Margaret, Mary and all - I really enjoy reading about your meal plans and how you are handling getting what your body needs. It inspires me to get "back on the wagon" in regards to healthy choices!
Machka and Pip- You both are steadfast in your workouts! THAT is inspiring to me, also! I need to get back to that mentality and as Heather says, I need to work on my cardio and getting my heart rate up. I have been walking as exercise, due to my knee and ankles, but it really doesn't do much for me physically since I have an active job, already. I think it is time to push myself. Pip, bring on the boot!
Well, time for me to fly. We are in the middle of Adventure Space week and I have to cut out the outlines of the space shuttles we are making today. The boys are really enjoying our week so far. They are like little sponges and just soak up everything! ttfn my friends! xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
one boot, coming up!!! :::::: getting a running start ::::::::: KA-BAM!!!5 -
Happy Thursday ladies!
This morning I was thinking about the word "diet".... as many of you have mentioned you are not on "diets" but use the term to describe a certain eating plan you adhere to and I think we can tack exercise onto that. For me, for many years, the word "diet" was altering how I normally eat (and sometimes in an unhealthy manner) for a period of time to achieve a goal... fit into certain pants, hit a number on the scale, etc.
It's been very freeing to get away from those concepts and realize I have a long term goal of eliminating some of my visceral fat and keeping my blood pressure and fasting glucose in a normal range. Once I switched to that thinking, the rest just falls into place which will include more energy, clearer thinking, and losing a bit of weight.
The Real Skinny on Fat has really been good - they have ventured off the path a little but still am picking up tidbits of good information I am incorporating into my plan.... which is ever evolving as I think Heather mentioned.
Kathy Smith, the exercise guru, said in her interview that her preferred exercise these days is going for a short walk, like ten minutes, and having two or three "spurts" of really picking up the pace during that walk = HIIT, high intensity interval training. Here we were told for years to get lots of cardio for optimum health. There's nothing wrong with getting lots of steps and aerobics and biking, but it was inspiring to me that we are getting great benefits with these short exercise activities since I have foot problems that hinder me from long walks and jogging.
I'm not a calorie counter at all because I tend to obsess on it as well as what the number on the scale says. But I am logging what I eat and even with the high fat and lower carbs, I'm still coming in at from 1400 to 1600 calories per day unless it's a fast day, and that's right in the ballpark of CICO (calories in, calories out) recommendation.
OK ladies, that's my input for now. Gotta hit the road and get allergy shots before the sun starts blazing!

wildhorsewendy wrote: »Snowflake, I have found one possible explanation of excess hair growth on page 109 of The Hormone Solution by Dr.Thierry Hertoghe: "Hair under the nose, on the chin, breasts, lower abdomen, thighs, leg and arms is often blamed on excess male hormones, but in reality it is more likely to occur in women low in estrogen. They are likely to also have soft, weak muscles and be tired and depressed. They might also be low in testosterone but have at the same time greater deficiencies in the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. Sometimes a lack of cortisol is to blame, as it triggers an increased secretion of male hormones to compensate. Taking hormone supplements lessons, or even erases, the growth of undesirable hair. To get good results, you must make sure you are eating enough calories and address any digestive problems. It takes six months of treatment to start noticing a decrease in unwanted hair, and one to four years to have complete results, because a body-hair follicle stays about four years in the skin."
If any of this applies to you, perhaps you should get the book, highlight the relevant sections and take it to your doctor for further discussion and saliva testing of your hormone levels. Wendy
That sounds very close to me! Thank you so much! I just made an appointment yesterday with my doctor for mid-August I will for sure be asking about this.2 -
Heart rate- you don't need to be doing an aerobic activity to get your heart rate up. You can do a strength building exercise and increase your heart rate as well. I do that with my Kettlebell and I did it with my weight lifting. When lifting heavy I'm strengthening my muscles, bones and heart5

Heather - Good for you for taking up running. I have always hated running. I went from flat chested to a D cup over summer break when I was 12. I ended up getting attention I didn't know how to handle from the boys so I started skipping gym class for the rest of my school years. A few weeks ago though, I started doing little spurts of running on my walks. I don't mind it as much as I thought I would.
Wendy - I love shopping at thrift stores and yard sales. I like hunting for the treasure. Your cup and dress are absolutely adorable.
Kelly - For 6 months I was on a "make work" project and was a teacher's assistant in a kindergarten class. Each week we changed out the theme for the kids, I think it's absolutely remarkable that you do this, I know the work it takes to get some of those things together.
Kylia - I have been suffering since my late 20's. My Mother had the same issues, I had talked to my doctor about it years ago and all she suggested was laser treatments. They didn't work because the hairs are too light and it was quite costly. I am going to speak a little louder to my doctor this time and hopefully she listens.
Allie - I think you deserve a rest day, you have been going straight out for a while now.
I started my swim lessons again on Tuesday, these ones are daily instead of weekly and will end next week. I am still struggling with the breathing, but still being told my form is really good. The instructor this time thinks if I keep practicing my form and strokes the breathing will just come to me. She thinks I'm so focused on the movements I'm forgetting how to do the breaths.... I guess we'll see how it goes this time.

well I stayed in bed till 10, and then got up, still feeling very listless ,do have a load of laundry going and paid my first mortgage payment early.. I just did the amount owed until I sort of know the range my paycheck will be then will bump it up.. my mortgage is 620.10 monthly and the HOA fees are 291.00 still less than I was paying for rent... but if I have the extra income coming in, will set it at maybe 1000.00 a month and get it paid off quicker.. would also like to save some... have to figure out what my budget will be..
I need to grocery shop.. and it is so very hard with me living on my own to buy nutritious stuff for myself, because when I was married I had to cook, now I dont and am working later so I am tired when I get home.. I know he smart thing to do like alot of you have said is take one day and prep all your meals and snacks , then you just grab and go... this is what I need to wrap my head around...
also Tom gave me the registration bill, which is 100.00 ,but I have to re-register it in my name only and our Dept of Motor Vehicles here in Connecticut suc%s.. long wait times and a big ol pain in the butt..
Oh well..the way I am going im draining the well dry financially between all the bills and my dads estate..
I cannot stress enough to have a good will and trust in place so your children will never ever have to go through what my brother and I are going through..2 -
Good morning PALS. another hot day in TX. Youngest granddaughter is staying with us for a few days so we’ve been having fun with movie, games and shopping. I don’t know what has happened to my Community site. Print is very small and it looks completely different. My flower bed are full of weeds but it is too hot to work outside. Missed you guys.

Just ate a fresh mango and my mind was blown away when I saw that it had 210 calories....0

Lanette what I find interesting is that when I order at a restaurant the items I pick that fit my meal plan tend to be the lowest calorie on the menu. I like this because it takes the fear that going out to eat is going to sabotage me It has worked well for me so far.
I found a quick way to make the creamy salad dressings I like. I mix plain yogurt and sour cream and then mix in a variety of spices dill in particular, onion powder, and seasoned salt. I must admit giving up creamy salad dressing was one of the last things I gave up. What did it for me was reading the label of a good quality dressing and seeing all the additives.
Allie I think I missed something. Why are you spending anything on your dad's estate? You are not legally responsible for any of his debts. I am sure they convinced you that you are because it is to their benefit that you pay. Where is that door to go through and walk away?

Margaret ~ Bolthouse dressings are made out of yogurt and are very, very good.1

Good afternoon Ladies,
I have been to the grocery store, got the yard and pasture mowed, showered and I am sitting in my recliner in my jammies drinking water. Thank goodness I was able to get it done before it go too hot. It has just hit 95, only supposed to make it to 100 today! Yeah for it being cooler!
Now to think about lunch....all I have to do is throw it in a bowl and throw some red wine vinegar on it, but that requires me to get up and walk to the kitchen. Maybe in a while

A couple of guys came and took away the cast iron bedhead I had put on Freecycle. They said they were going to use it on a boat.
Still no sensible takers for the huge cupboard.
I've been trying out the vacuum storage bags. Seem to work ok on single duvets. I'm going to tackle the huge super king duvet when we get back on Sunday. Also two pillows.
We are off tomorrow to visit DH's sister for Friday and Saturday night. We haven't told her we are coming to escape the annual music festival in our village. Hideous racket. Incessant base beat. Of course we are also going to see her.
It's forecast for scattered thunderstorms tomorrow, so we will have to take umbrellas etc. We hope to stop off on the way there, after a very early lunch, at a stately home. We are members of the National Trust, so it won't cost us anything.
Don't want to leave later than midday as Friday holiday traffic is horrendous. Will be even worse if we get storms.
We could really, really do with the rain. Drought conditions over much of the country. 95° F today in London.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx5 -
Coolest day this summer here. High only 70 degrees. We are dry for the time being too. We had a lot of rain in June and beginning of July.
Heather sorry so hot for you and much of the west and southwest here. Flooding out east. Weather is much more extreme than it was a few years ago.
Even though it was cool today I tried making a cool treat because I had all the ingredients and wanted to use them up. An overripe banana frozen for at least eight hours. I leaned best to chop it up before freezing, I used left over cold coconut milk (any milk would do) add as much as you need to liquify banana in a couple of tbsp., half teaspoon vanilla, tbsp. unsweetened cocoa power, tbsp natural peanut butter (no sugar), dash of salt, if need it sweeter chopped dates or honey to taste. The peanut butter helps to lessen the strong banana flavor. Place all ingredients in a blender. The texture was like soft serve ice cream and mine had some chunks bananas because I didn't slice them before freezing them. I would like to try making it on a hot day I think it would be even more refreshing. I am mentioning it now because I know many of you are in hot weather and it makes a nice alternative to ice cream. A variation is to use walnuts instead of peanut butter. If you like a strong banana flavor you don't have to add the nuts.
I like it because I never know what to do with overripe bananas now that I probably won't make banana bread because of the flour and sugar.

Janetr Thank you for posting photos of those beautiful grandbabies! What a lift!

Granddaughter did very well at Champs swim meet this afternoon.
I have my feet propped up in my cool, dry house after an afternoon of standing in a muggy indoor pool venue. It feels great!

Karen in Va ~ Congrats on your grand daugther's swimming accomplishments. I am rooting for my 6 yr old who will be competing against 7 and 8 yr olds this Sunday at National Race Meets. She is also a good swimmer. Her brother is a bit chunky and will end up being a very tall and large man someday. He also is a good athlete but not as fast as his sister.
Love the pics of Olivia and her sister!
Heather ~ I want to commend you for this years successes. You have gotten mostly AF and running. What a great feeling that must be.
I have not been doing very well with my eating regimen this week but hope to get back on the boat soon. I really have a lot of anxiety over the minor social events in my life but realize that I have been this way since a small child when I cried because I didn't want to go to birthday parties, etc. I still hate being in situations with folks I don't really know well and worry for days ahead of time.

afternoon ladies~
took an early afternoon nap.. just trying to sleep away the stress.
I then went grocery shopping...I did fairly well.. but spent over 200.00 dollars. I did stop at the farm stand first , bought peaches little nectarines, a couple of ears of corn.. I know thats not good for you but wow .. this corn is off the chain this time of year.. some fresh green beans, grape tomatoes, regular tomatoes and will bring some of that with me to work tomorrow, bought little single serve cups of dill dip, not that thats great for you but can dip fresh cukes and tomatoes and green beans and celery and carrots in it..
bought some grass fed beef, and some free range chicken that will be good to mix into things.bought raw honey to sweeten my tea, I also have stevia..going to cut some veggies up either tonight or tomorrow morning to take with me..
I did buy a loaf of multi grain bread and just had a sandwich with turkey with no nitrates... it was superb..2 -
Allie -Don't worry about what other people think is good for you. If you enjoy eating it, then eat it. If you have set up your MFP with your goals and gotten your calorie allotment, then eat what you like up to that calorie limit. If you want to eat more, do some exercise to earn more calories. Don't try to make it too complicated.
Okie3 -
carol I so feel for you and social anxiety—i get wound up, avoid situations and am drained by situations with folks I don’t know. It is challenging!
Allie sounds like a terrific grocery haul. Good for you prepping the veggies—setting yourself up for success. I have a ginormous zucchini that could feed a horde of people! I sliced off a bit and made Parmesan with it, instead of eggplant. I still have 3/4 of it left, so I’m hoping to shred and bake a little tomorrow.
I’m kinda out of control with food right now, but am exercising. Think I’m just nervous about the trip. 2 weeks and counting.

and about my dads estate.. no they are not my bills to pay...but.. I dont know if it is the old school in me that my brother and I feel an obligation to clean out and sort through the life that was my dad, mom, and grandparents through all of the 56 yrs they were in that house.. so the electric needs to stay on, to have an inspection.. the gas has to be turned back on, to find out how much the house is worth so that his estate can be settled needs an appraisle and that again cost money.. with what he owes the reverse mortgage, the state of connecticut, taxes, and credit card bills, I just hope there is enough to pay me back some of what was put out.. If not.. will have to just take it on the chin..
I packed my lunch for tomorrow and I am please with how it turned out.... fresh green beans ,grape tomatoes, cukes, organic baby carrots and some of the dip, a container of yogurt and a cut up orange, will through a 100 calorie pack of nuts in for good measure.. well rounded and healthy, I will be on my butt for 8 hrs so will have to get up and walk...2 -
Hi friends. Just popping in to say hi and to report that I put on a pair of shorts yesterday that I bought in June and they were falling off! YAY! Kaylia: I like that prescription too. OK need to run! More tomorrow. Meg from Omaha4
