If I had the money, I'd consider flying a couple of you over here to clean up the boxes in my office and the boxes in our "basement".5

Hi Mary, the longest I have managed to stay on one particular fast is two weeks. But I've gone on many short fasts over the years. I find that once I've gotten started, it gets easier and easier with each passing day. I love being able to walk through the grocery store, like I did yesterday to buy food for my husband and animals, and feel totally unaffected by the chocolates, nuts, crackers, and treats that usually call out my name as I walk past. LOL. I did buy something for myself: A new re-usable sturdy shopping bag beautifully decorated in pale blue and snowscenes, deer and snowflakes etc. and chewable Magnesium tablets and chewable Multi-vitamins. If I get the urge to masticate, I pop a few of those in.
I think the brain needs both fats and glucose to work properly, which is why I have a little honey in my hot drinks and have 2 Tablespoons of coconut oil in my lassi every day. As you know, I am very active and have lots of animals to feed and look after every day and i can't afford to get sick or drop my energy levels. I am also swinging the kettleball every day as well to maintain muscle tone. And the supplements I take cover any dietary dips: vit d, vit e (from wheatgerm oil), tart cherry to put me to sleep at night, ginseng, ginkgo (great for the brain) dong quai and vitex (hormone boosters), chorella (toxin binder) and most importantly is my natural progesterone cream that I use. I eat the carrot and celery for fibre and to sweep toxins out of my body and the walnuts are full of anti-oxidents, vit e, and omega 3s.
I did try keto, before I decided on Vegan 99%. I recorded in my journal from that time period of doing keto how my immunity diminished, I got colds and worst of all my body broke out in bruises. It looked like I'd been in a plane wreck! But I did lose weight on keto. However, I was craving fruit bigtime. LOL. After reading How Not To Die, by Dr. Michael Gregor, I decided to ditch meat for veggies and fruit for health reasons. Now I am just learning what quantities my body needs and what combinations and how often. I definitely overfeed myself most of the time, not on fruit and veggies but on rice, pasta and bread and naughty flour/ sugar baked sweets. That's what I've got to ditch and fasting helps me do it. LOL.
I know that you have mentioned health problems, vertigo and lyme disease which I know not much about, but I believe it zaps your energy and leaves you feeling exhausted? I would guess that fasting would help with those symptoms. Diet affects your health so much! It is so worth researching and investigating alternative methods to cure oneself of whatever ails you. Wendy3 -
Wendy- thanks for the info on different supplements you take and what they're good for. I love the Kettlebell. I'm trying to transition to the 45 pound Kettlebell but life gets in the way and I've had to reduce sets periodically but hopefully I'll be ready by the first of August to move up. Great job on two weeks. I'm going for 4 days. Then 19:5 IF with my window ending 3 hours before bed.

Oh, I forgot to mention I take Glucosamine and Chrondoiton every day for my joints as well. My husband has started taking it too, as he is feeling some joint pain after spending all day putting stakes in the ground for the manuka plantation. Some people might think it's too much money to buy all those supplements, but I think it's cheaper than paying a doctor to give me medicine instead of preventing problems in the first place. Medicines always come with side effects. The liver has to work hard to detox them and they affect your stomach digestion as well. I'd rather take my Supps and feel vibrantly alive and happy rather than suffer hormonal imbalances, sleep disturbances, joint pain, brain fog, depression and any number of other ills. I am a VIP customer at our local health food store. LOL Wendy3

We are in Cathlamet, WA tonight. We got here in the early afternoon and set up camp next to another RV. We walked to the local grocery store & bought some foods we’d forgotten, And I went back later for something else. We used to come here aboard our boat almost every summer. It is fun in the RV, too. I ‘m happy we came. We plan to be here 2 more days & then head home.10

Happy Wednesday!
So I reckon I finally have my Fur baby, Sara's D-mannosse dose correct. We have not had an accident at night for almost 10 days. I would love to be able to allow her loose in the house again at night, but really don't trust that she will bark if she needs out if she is loose. She was a stray for 2 years before we adopted her. Our Shepherd , Mandy, housebroke her, but not sure that training was complete.....maybe Mandy just knows she wasn't feeling well??? At any rate, it is nice to not wake up and have to mop floor.
We were slow at work yesterday. Yes, I kept checking this site I did manage to complete some work, too. Hopefully today will be final catch up day on work stuffs.
The cleaning continues....1/2 the dining room is done.
It takes a long time when you have a bunch of nic-nacs to wash! OMG! Most of the stuffs in that curio are Wild Turkey and Jim beam containers masked as statues. They are cool, but so many! I did manage to get some laundry done last night as well. By the way, the bottoms of all these cabinets will get done when DH is gone. I am anticipating lots of donating and boxing will be occurring He is the most organized "collector" that I know, but some of these cabinets haven't been gotten into since I moved stuffs around 5 years ago. I won't get rid of his things, but I see a bunch of my stuffs finding homes where they are needed. Going to try to tackle other half of dining room tonight including the curtains getting washed and the carpets shampooed. Maybe a little at a time and I can get it all done before the end of August!
Routines....I suck at them! DH runs on routine and hates change. I try, but it never sticks.
Meg- I take estrogen every day, but when I asked GYN about help for libido, his comment was he doesn't prescribe male hormones to women because the risks out weigh the benefits. His "prescription" for low libido in women, is more foreplay and more frequency. I think if it isn't on the front burner, always simmering, it is easy to get taken off the stove. Hand holding, hugs, nice words, kisses, etc keep things rolling. I am sure not being exhausted or overwhelmed by other things would help too. My DH is more than happy to help with that prescription! He likes the price too! LOL!!!
Allie Glad you got to relax and do something fun!
Katla Sounds wonderful! Enjoy!
Oh, I found someone to come out and fix my Grandfather clock! He will be here on August 15th. DH asked how much....oops....didn't ask. Even if $50 for service call to determine problem and fix it is better than a clock sitting there doing nothing! I do miss it's chiming.
Reckon I need to get this day going....DH wants me to sit with him in the man cave. I will be thankful that I got to sit for a short while with no TV on and no one talking....
My (((HUGS))) continue for you all!
Remember you are all STRONG WOMEN even when we don't feel the strongest!

All this talk about forms and taxes has made me pull out my tax form to complete. It's not due until the end of October, but I know, if we get down to Hove, I will have other things on my mind and I will forget all about it. Best to do it now.
DH earns a few pennies from his self published books, but he doesn't bother with declaring it as he is on an automatic system we call Pay As You Earn. PAYE. Hmmmmmmmm. Hope he doesn't leave me with a mess.
I still have to fill in forms, even though I earn under the tax threshold and don't have to pay anything. It's a job I hate, but I will do it now. Last year I forgot and was a few days late. I had to pay a £100 fine.
Both of us are pretty well organised with our paper work and filing, so our filing is up to date. We each have a list of savings with our wills.
Our bills are filed too, although all are automatic.
My main problem would be, if like Machka and Rori, my husband was rendered incapable. I have no access to his savings. I keep meaning to do Lasting Power of Attorney and keep shelving it.
Yet another new cleaner starting today. Temporary. The cleaner we had, who left for a permanent job with social services, has ditched the job and decided to come back. Too much paperwork and extremely vulnerable adults. She only did a week! She will return the week after next as she has a holiday already booked. She loves us and thinks we are the perfect couple! :noway:
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxx3 -
We are watching TV!
Ever since the big storm in May, we've only been able to get a few channels, and of course, generally speaking, the most boring ones. Now we've got all 20 of them!!
While this may not seem like a big deal, it means we've got a collection of "light-hearted" entertainment most evenings again which is what we need these days.
It was so bad for the past couple months, I went out and bought some TV series DVDs!!

Machka If I am understanding you correctly, the agency wants to send a second caretaker to help your husband with ADLs he doesn't need help with, and will cut the hours of the expert caretaker you already have if you accept the unwanted and unnecessary "help". That makes no sense to me. No wonder you said: "No thank you."
Wendy Your retirement sounds joyful!
On the subject of filing Pieces of paper are a burden to so many, including me. Books, too. Paper and Books are heavy and take up room. I remember my mother had some old PDRs that had belonged to my dad. I was aghast when I saw them in the trash can. I mean, who throws books away, right? They were old, outdated, useless huge heavy books. She just tossed 'em. It was a liberating moment for me once I wrapped my mind around the concept.

Yes, that's it.
We've got a lady who comes in 5 days a week while I'm at work. She and my husband get along well. She takes him to his Rehab appointments, learns his exercises and things, and works with him at home on days he doesn't have Rehab. She's got a sense of humour and has him laughing ... and she can identify when he needs to lie down and rest.
She also does some light domestic stuff, like today she did the vacuuming. Then she and my husband did some laundry together (because he is supposed to be learning/doing "normal" household things too, as part of his therapy).
She and I get along well too, which is important. I feel comfortable with her being here.
The agency told me that they would put a back-up person on as well, just in case something happened to our main person. That made sense to me ... but 3 weeks have gone by and I wondered why there was no mention of a back-up person. But I'm so busy, I didn't pursue it.
And then on Monday, I got a call from a person at the agency I had never dealt with before. She informed me they were putting an RN on two afternoons a week because, in their opinion, my husband's main carer was likely getting burned out having to lift him into the showers and haul him around etc. etc. And our main carer would have those afternoons off.
There was no "would you like to meet a potential back-up person" or anything like that. I was told that at 1 pm today, the unknown RN would turn up on our doorstep and the main carer would have to leave.
And, as you've guessed from my previous comments here, I was having none of that!! No agency is going to tell me that a complete and utter stranger is going to come into my home in the middle of the afternoon to take care of my husband while I'm at work, without any introduction whatsoever. I did not feel at all comfortable with that!! And I didn't feel comfortable with the idea that someone thought my husband needed all sorts of "personal" care. Just imagine!! He would have been livid if she tried to come into the toilet with him or something!!
So I don't mind having a back-up person ... that is a good idea. But there's a process of introductions and interviews to follow.

Barbara, I only had the Toyota Celica for 3 years. The company I started working for during college offered a car as an incentive to remain with them after graduation. I sold the car for about $600-800 less than paid for it after 3 years.
Lanette, The episode on fasting was eye opening. Autophagy was a new term for me. I had never considered fasting outside of time restricted feeding. I wouldn’t do a 5 day water fast, but am interested in the fasting-mimicking diet. I bought Valter Longo’s book for more information. His work has been referenced frequently during the series.
I did manage a 1 day water fast in prep for a colonoscopy last year. It was fairly easy.
Episode 8 covered circadian rhythm and sleep.

I have done a home version of the fast mimicking 5 day diet three times this year. I have not had any blood work done before or after, so I don’t know if I have reaped any benefits. I plan to do it again on September and November. I liked his book quite a bit.

Well, the substitute cleaner was young, personable and energetic. More than pleased. She is coming next week as well. Oh for the energy of youth!
DH went out for a walk. It's well over 90° here. I did my recumbent bike with the curtains closed and the fan blowing. 200 bonus calories for me. I watched a thriller on my tablet.
I've now got the measurements for the gap in the kitchen of the house we want to buy. Some research on fridges etc necessary. Haven't heard back from the estate agent if our buyers want ours.
Legal stuff still hasn't arrived in the post. DH is now printing out the emailed docs instead. Our solicitors are useless. They still haven't chased up fixtures and fittings even though we asked them last week.
Botheration.
I've readvertised my cupboard , but no replies yet.

Cathy - I am really enjoying this series! I got Longo's book from the library recently, and it was very good and may purchase it in the future.
For now, Mosley's books are just right for me - his FastDiet and the 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet which I think draws heavily on Longo's research. My goal is to do a 20 hour fast once or twice a week with an 800 calorie (or less) low carb meal at the end of the day, and otherwise try to stick to a 12:3 minimum.
The information Jeff Bland and Randy Hartnell regarding Omega 3's was really an eye opener for me. In fact, I ordered some canned salmon and sardines from VitalChoice, lol. I kind of gulped at the price, then realized I used to spend much more than that on candy, chips, crackers and desserts which I was consuming a LOT of, so it's a net savings.
Wendy and Mary and Margaret and Karen in VA - again, thank you for sharing your fasting and restricted eating plans. Had I not found this group, I would still be fighting to stuff myself into my "fat pants" lol. And eating too many sugars and simple carbs!!
Cathy - would you mind sharing your eating plan again? I think you are on Keto? I know you have had amazing success.
You are all so inspirational to me!!
Barbie - good luck with the chiropractor. When I tweaked my back last week (picking up dog!!) I was lucky enough to get in to see mine the following day. Normally it's a several day wait. And hope Bessie's back is doing better as well.
Katla - have a good time in Cathlamet! DH and I considered settling there at one point when we decided to move from the Seattle area. I remember being amazed at seeing the herds of elk. When we did eventually buy a farm in Lewis County, we also had herds of elk come through it... and belly down the new fencing DH put up - but not enough for the sheep to get out. Good memories.
Have a COOL Wednesday! Hugs all around!

well, i got in a little over 1/2 hr workout at the gym, no OT, but i still decided to ride to work after the gym instead of taking the train. the weather is just too nice, 60 degrees.
i made my 1st goal for raising $$ for this years MS ride (required to raise or pay $250 to ride), so now i up'd my goal to the next stage, then if i meet that, i go to 1k. if you raise 1k, you get a MS bike jersey.. we'll see.
after everyone giving their feedback (i.e. complaining) they have backed off of the micro-managing, still stressful, not as much tho. one girl gave her 2wks notice and that was partly why. funny i told them that they were going to end up loosing people because of it. i was right6 -
Pip- I know you had mentioned that Kirby bought an e-bike. My husband and I are thinking about buying that type of bike. Do you have any recommendations or information for a novice?

He only has one home care worker, and she is great!!
But the organisation, in its wisdom, decided to tell me they were sending in a second one to help with all the assistance my husband needed. What?? He doesn't need that much assistance!! He needs gentle guidance, subtle prompting, help with his exercises, that sort of thing.
However, basically, they informed me that I was to open my home to a complete stranger for an entire afternoon this week, and then twice a week for who knows how long.
Not happening! And after my email and rather loud follow-up phone call, I'm serious ... it's not happening.
I can understand the need for a back-up person in case something happens to his home care worker, but ringing me up and informing me that someone I don't know from Eve was going to turn up on my doorstep later this week ... while I'm not there, I might add ... and spend the rest of the day "assisting" my husband. Big ol' NOPE!
It's no wonder I'm tired ... I deal with this sort of rubbish at least once a week with one organisation or another.
It's like they think he is living in an assisted-living place or something and has no family. Probably doesn't help that we opted to keep our own last names. I strongly suspect that a lot of people along the way don't realise, or choose not to realise, that I'm his wife and that we live in the same house together.
Sigh. Headache.

I think its time for "wifey hat" to come out and sit firmly on that "caregivers hat" you have stylishly on, for all to see!💗
Rebecca
It came out very loudly yesterday!
One of the things I have had to remember, and do all the way through the last 4 months is ...
I have to remember that my last name is different than his. We discussed it and both decided to keep our maiden names. Plus it made a number of things quite a bit easier.
And I have to remind everyone that I am his wife. We might have different names, but I am not just a concerned friend ... it is my house, filled with my stuff, and my life, and since I am his wife, it's his house, filled with his stuff and his life too.
I actually had one person (while I was negotiating the financial side of things), who thought that my husband lived on his own and I was a concerned friend or distant relative or something, tell me that it was actually very inconvenient from their perspective that my husband and my lives were so intertwined. Well ... sorry to inconvenience you by having a happy, trusting, involved relationship with my husband!!! <<rolleyes>>

Oh jeez! I'd get a shirt that says, ,"Assume Nothing"! Those twits!
My father had Lewey Bodies disease, and after his stroke that started it all, he was in a care facility. He was in his own world, spouting numbers and dates, taking off his clothes when they weren't paying attention. When I visited, I had to remind all the nurses that this man had played golf the week before. The reason for the numbers was that he was a banker! My sister's and I had to fight to get him evaluated and transferred from California to Oregon were he lived. His adventure started when he had met a lady friend in Palm Springs for a weekend of golfing, and fun. We met this poor lady at the hospital. (Way to make an impression father..lol). So these nurses had no clue he was an active guy the week prior.
So I can so relate to fighting for someone, their rights, your rights... It can all be so complicated. You are one tough cookie, (not by choice but by circumstance). Peace be with you on moments where you're struggling! We really are in your back pocket, mentally...

Good day Ladies -
I am starving today and eating everything in sight. So far, nothing not already logged, but the day is early and work ends in a couple of hours so I'll have more free time.
Okie in the TX Hill Country4 -
Lanette I do not consider what I am doing a restrictive eating plan. I am trying to eat foods that restore and feed my bacteria that is going to help me be healthier. That is why I am eating high fiber. The fiber in the average diet especially if is high in processed foods is minimal compared to our hunter gathers ancestors.
If fasting resets the microbiome I can see value in it. If you fast and then go right back to a mostly processed diet I am not sure what benefit it is.
This is an example of what I am eating for lunch. A big pot of vegetables bought at the farmer's market: tomato, yellow zucchini, broccoli leaves and stem not peeled, purple pepper. I didn't put in onion we are having that at dinner. The sauce is coconut milk, turmeric, black pepper, sea salt and peanut butter made with just peanuts and salt. For the orange I am having an organic peach. It is heaven to eat a peach that tastes like a peach and not a tasteless version. The reason I do not log is it would try me too long to enter all these foods daily. I do not necessarily eat the same veggies or fruit. I am not a vegetarian I do eat a variety of meats and fish. Grass fed beef if I can. I just try not to have meat at every meal. I know I am eating right for my body and I would rather spend my time with friends or a walk.
I also know if you want to add more fiber to do so gradually especially after a fast or after colonoscopy prep. It takes a least a week for the health giving bacteria to dominate. It also helps to eat fermented food that do not add a sweetener or sugar after being fermented.
My body is used to a high fiber diet now and I am noticing as I have said positive changes.
