WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JULY 2018

Hello everyone!
I am over 50+ and could use some help being accountable.
My goals for July is to track consistently and to work towards achieving a caloric deficit most days during the week.
A little about me ~ I live in Toronto; I enjoy weight training and running (6-8 km) 3-5x/week; I have a sedentary job with a long commute so activity/walking are a priority on the weekends/evenings; I like wine (probably too much) and would like to loose 25 lbs.
I am looking forward to being successful.6 -

auntiebkauntiebk I feel ya, with the unhung artwork. It took, oh, about 3 years for us to get *some* of our up, and I still have a pile in the corner. It's only been since 2010.
wildhorsewendy Congratulations!!! I'm so impressed! I'm hoping just to get back into shape to do a 5k by next spring, can't imagine a half marathon. You're awesome!
Mondays are long work days for me, so I didn't expect to get much done yesterday, but sneaked in a half-hour walk at lunch.2 -
coastalgosgal wrote: »Feeling very proud of myself! I went to the gym, doing all the circuit weights, and walked 3.0 pace for 30 minutes. It might not seem like much, but its a step in the right direction. Then husband wanted to go to our favorite pizza place. We ordered sodas, and I got an iced tea. Then he asked me what I wanted, and I was honest and said I'd rather just fix my taco salad I had scheduled. I had no problem with watching tennis that was on, and sip my tea. He said, " I don't want to have you sit and watch, while I eat my pizza, I'll take it to go". I didn't cave and just eat pizza, and we both were happy.
Yeah me!

Win! Win! That's awesome!2 -
Wendy - Utterly fabulous! Many congrats.
Had good yoga session, pleasant chat over coffee in the pub afterwards and then lunch with my friend. I had two starters. Garlic prawns and salt and pepper squid. Just salad with it. No bread - gave it to my friend. Had my pretend gin drops in a diet tonic. Cup of Earl Grey. So a good choice.
Came home and cooked tonight's lamb and flageolet stew, plus a chicken, lentil and spinach curry for tomorrow and to freeze. That's the last of the garage freezer rescue. DH made blackcurrant cordial with the unfrozen blackcurrants. Put brandy in it for keeping. He mainly uses it for adding to plums or apples etc when he stews them. We added a stick of cinnamon.
England match tonight. I will leave DH to it.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx

I am away from home & only have my phone with me, so I can’t respond to everyone, individually. I made a grocery run today for chips for DH & pepto bismol for the dog. Poor dog was seriously upset by fireworks at home & had terrible diahrea. The pepto tablet really helped.
This is our first trip in the RV, and is going pretty well so far. It is quiet here with few loud noises. DH is irritating me with criticism to the point I’ve been feeling pretty low. We just loaded up our personal items over the course of a few days & he criticises me every time I have to hunt for something because I can’t instantly remember where it is. I spoke up about it & he’s gone off to the park restrooms. I hope he’ll come back with a better attitude, & leave the criticism in the toilet.🐵🙈🙉🙊🐒
I hope he leaves it in the toilet too, that criticism will ruin your trip for you.0 -

Its an adjustment that's for certain! I think a little heart to heart is necessary👍. Some people roll this changes, others take time to adjust. I think the only main deal is do you handle acclimating together or individually? One or the other isn't a reflection on that person, its ok. He needs to deal with adapting, without being cranky towards you. We also had personal stuff shampoos, medicines in a plastic tool caddy. Just stick it in your shower. It was easy to keep stocked, and take to wherever.💗

Katla - hope your dog is doing better. The BIG fireworks was blasting in our neighborhood last night, house shaking stuff. CBD did nothing for our old dog who crawled under the bed - flattened herself like a snake and squirreled under there with only 5" clearance if that but we were able to pull her out - but I'm going to lay in a supply of Karen's favorite CBD from Bluebird Botanicals for next time.
Sorry your DH was such a pill. We must get their attitudes adjusted at times whether they like it or not, lol. And say the magic words (fill in the blank) for our own sanity. My retort is generally "well, next time YOU get to do the packing and be in charge of where things go." Hope things are going better today.
Heather - gosh what a cute house and love having the layout like that. Hope you can make lunch with your friend.
Karen in VA - Holy smokes those cute kids are growing fast! Love the photos of mom & grandmom too!! Any plans to head west and see them in the near future?
Wendy - we are enjoying seeing photos of you chilled and in the rain. Thanks for the cool-off, lol.
Rebecca - love all the art you were able to hang in DS's room. What wonderful memories they must have sparked. When is your next doc appointment about the parathyroid?
Barbara AHMOD - sorry you won't be able to make it to Bandon.... you remind me so much of myself. I was all excited last week to have lunch with my new neighbor today but was relieved when she had to cancel.
Better close for now and get ready for the allergy shots and morning shopping. Pups and DH are watching the dog show from Philly this morning so they won't even miss me.
Have a great day!!

All of the Japanese prints are his, he's collected since he's been in the Navy. The fans with the cute animal faces are ones from when he was a kid in Japan. He was age 1 1/2 to 4, when we were stationed there. I think since he learned how to speak there, and interact with children there, he has been a bit conditioned by the Japanese lifestyle.
I head to the surgeon this Thursday for the consultation.👍
Have a great day too friend! Hugs!

I wanted to talk to you all about my beads. I am back down to the weight I was the last time I was wearing my bracelet. The bad thing is the bracelet has balls at each end with one side you can unscrew for putting on more beads. For those that don't know what I'm talking about I am on this bead journey. 1 bead = 1 lb lost. I add to a bracelet I bought at a craft store. The end balls give me a little black and blue mark on the inside of my wrist. Its not a metal mark, but an actual bruise. So trying to figure out an different set up. Meanwhile I am down 13 beads! Yeah!

Just lost my post! Dang it!
Not been posting much as my Internet and DATA access is spotty at best.
I am now in Homolovi State Park in Winslow AZ. Not much to do here but 'stand on the corner' or spend money in the gift shops! It is very HOT, DRY, and WINDY so not good for walking either. We will be leaving on July 11 for UTAH.
My June exercising was not where it should have been, and I have not been eating as I should. I have met most of the other goals I had set.
JULY goals:
75 oz of water daily
2 cups veggies daily
1.5 cups fruit daily
Walk 3 miles or 7,000 steps daily
10 min of stretching/yoga once a week
1 dairy daily
2.5 hours of total exercise weekly
(same goals as July)
These goals are what I need for healthy living. I want to make them an every day part of my life.
Spent 6 hours in the ER with DH Monday night. He was diagnosed with a kidney stone (medium sized) which they said he would be able to pass, and a rare disease called mesenteric panniculitis which ususally indicates cancer. He does not know about the potential for cancer, but the only treatment is prednisone to reduce the inflamation and tests to find any other problems that could be causing it. He does not want to go to a specialist for treatment just yet. I am a mess. He has been cranky b/c of the pain of the stone moving and this diagnosis. I have been emotionally eating and have gained 2 pounds.
Gotta go b/4 my Internet goes out again.
RV Rita in Winslow AZ for now.

Rita ~ Prayers for you and your husband. Do you have a home base? It must be awful having to deal with medical issues in strange places. Also, I must say, I would hate that hot, dry, windy desert....Big HUGS for you!

Rita - So sorry about your bad news. Thinking of you.
Well, England won!!!! I was upstairs in my bedroom and the noise from the soccer party next door was deafening! I knew the result - won on penalties- without DH telling me.

This summer is flying by and I am having trouble keeping up with life. I had a major melt down last Friday and not sure what happened, but next thing I know I am home and it is evening. They are adding so many things to being supervisor at work and I am a working supervisor so have no office time which makes it that much harder. My boss talked about giving me an office and I can do one or two days a week there and I am ready. So see how soon that gets done.
Meg-- I understand how our kids can hurt us. We found out that our one daughter and son are jealous of how much time we spend with our other son and grand daughter. They think we should spend every weekend and any time off with them. Now they do not live here in town and I do not want to spend all our free time running to them. I am really upset about this and DH says they can feel how they want we are going to do what we want when we want and they don't have to like it. I have always tried so hard to be fair, but they are over the top about this.
Hot and nasty here and I will be so glad when the 4th is over. Our fur babies will not go outside unless we pick them up and put them out and then they bark and cry until we let them back in.
Sorry to be so *kitten*&&&. Blessings ladies Vicki GI NE12 -

We are shell shocked after setting up our new phones. Only a few cross words were uttered. The guy at tech support didn't understand that we wanted to activate one phone at a time so he activated both of them which cut off service to the phone Jake was calling on. The tech guy had said that it might take up to four hours to get phone service on our new phones so we had no way to call tech support to find out what to do next. So we turned on our new phones and followed the prompts and transferred apps, contacts, music, texts, and then figured out how to use things. Two things still don't work right. I can't log into MFP and I can't download an e book. But I can still use MFP on my old phone and on my computer. I have an audio book and many podcasts on my new phone so I'm all set with the important stuff. When we finished the basics we ate a simple lunch and took a nap for two and a half hours10

Good evening,
This may be short and sweet. Not sure if we are going to fireworks or not. They aren't my thing. I have gone because we have taken the grandkids in the past. My DH can't really see them. I don't like the noise or the traffic trying to get home. 7 miles and it took us an hour to go 3 of those miles two years ago. Grands now live within walking distance. I wanted to meet them and walk. DH wanted to go back to where we always have gone and meet friends. He just asked me if we were going.....I told him we could go if he really wanted to, but that they weren't my thing unless watching with the grands. That was 15 minutes ago, so I guess we aren't going?????? He went back to the man cave. :0 Oops, he just came in. Guess we are heading up there.

Rita, sorry to hear your DH is so unwell. Here is a link to things he can do to help pass that painful kidney stone: https://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/remedies-for-kidney-stones/
If he has cancer, it is not a death sentence. There are thousands of cancer cures to be found if you do research on the internet. Our body actually clears cancererous cells every day so it knows how to fight it, you just have to make sure it has all the weapons it needs and you don't give cancer any weapons. Knowledge is power. Empower yourself by seeking out answers and not relying on doctors to give you their answers of choice, (usually surgery and or chemotherapy) There are many other ways to fight C.. Wendy5 -

I saw the last bit of the game. When I turned to the game England was 1 point behind. I told my husband oh oh, Heather's husband is not going to be happy if they lose. But good ending, I almost cheered myself.

Rebecca Love the color of those beads! So pretty.
I like the idea of social engagements more than the actual thing, too! For example, tonight my granddaughter had a swim meet. I arranged my work schedule for the express purpose of being able to attend it. And yet, I really had to galvanize myself to get ready and go. I thought of all kinds of excuses not to go. I did go, though. I mean, I want to see her swim, but I don't care for the crowded, hot venue, and find engaging with my family somewhat draining. It helps to know others also deal with this aggravating trait.

Hi ladies. I swear I don't know how days pass me by without me noticing.
Thank you for all the hugs and good thoughts about no-so-DD#1. She has been hostile and stand-offish ever since we got her, and it has just gotten worse and worse over the years. Actually both of our therapists and the one counselor who saw her years ago all think she has a serious but undiagnosed mental illness on top of her cognitive issues. The counseling went so badly, we were told not to waste our time anymore. She simply refuses to talk. She has actually said that what she thinks and feels are no one's business. So, no she would not be willing to go to counseling. I actually hope something happens that forces her to get care or some type of intervention.
That cat video make me snort my water! So true!!!!!!!!! And my cats were listening to it trying to find where the noise was coming from.
Rita: I'm so sorry about your DH being ill. Sending (((hugs))) and healing thoughts and prayers.
OK ladies, it's late, so I'm out. Be safe tomorrow! Meg from steamy Omaha where it already sounds like a war zone.4 -
June resolutions were a carryover from May. Here's my report card
> intermittent fast daily. B+
> add 30 minutes of evening movement 5x per week F
> 2 hours of decluttering per week A
> be lighter B+ down 1.3
Word for 2018 = Release
July is already shaping up to be a very busy and interesting month. Here's what's keeping me busier than normal:
(1) We have a renovation going on in the living room; however, our friend Reuben doing the work is only available on Saturdays. Demo of the mantle is done. Now I have to get busy with finding paint colors and tile for the fireplace. The space we are renovating is the mantle/media center, which is poorly designed and an eyesore. By the time we finish, I should have a niche large enough for a 65" tv, a more attractive front to the fireplace and glass covered storage. DH and I are out of the DIY business, so my role is simply to advise, and do a thorough clean up after Reuben leaves. Stay tuned.
(2) DH will have cataracts removed from both eyes beginning this Thursday. I'm much more excited about this than he is. I asked the tech at the eye center if others come in in denial. He said "100% of their patients come to the center in denial" LOL. Because of his dementia, DH cannot possibly manage the schedule for multiple eye drops every day, so I'll be the drop monitor.
(3) My DB is coming for a 2 week visit starting on the 10th. So, sprucing up the 'zen den' to serve as as the guest room, thinking about meal menus and all that fun stuff. He is still on and off with his sobriety, and he has been out of work for 18 months. I've invited him to visit because I really could use his help. He and DH have always gotten along well. If DH is doing well after second cataract is removed, we will take DB on a 3 night road trip to a couple of the national parks.
July resolutions:
> Meditate and practice Reiki daily
> Swimming and aquatics everyday, if possible
> Embrace and appreciate being able to serve as a caregiver
> Be lighter
Thank you for all the pix. Sasha made me laugh. Grandkids, babies and brides, oh my! Heart. Melting. All your stories of strength, survival and support, as always, greatly inspiring. Keep on it, ladies. We can do this.
