Hi friends. I had internet woes all day, so this will be just a quick hello. I had a nice visit with DD#2 and have set up both desk pedalers . I don't remember who was talking about them, but I got two and took one to work. They are kind of fun but harder than you'd think.

Kim - So happy to hear about your birthday determination. You have worked very hard over the years on being more assertive and it is paying off! Also, I do think we get to be more "ourselves" as we get older and less afraid of what other people think. I intend to be a very difficult old lady! Mind you, I'm more than half way there already.
I am 70 next year and I've already booked a cruise for myself and DH for that day. I hate parties and I'm surprisingly anti social, though I don't come over that way. Like Karen, I would like to see the grandchildren and have them help me to blow some candles out on a carrot cake, but I really don't want presents, unless there is something I really want from DH. I had been planning to go to Montreal, or Buenos Aires, , but then I thought, why do I want to give myself all that organising hassle (no one can do it properly but me ) when it's my birthday. Mind you, I have already put a "70" tiara from Amazon on my wish list. I am looking forward to the waiters serenading me already!
It's wonderful that you have so many people who want to give you a great time. That says a lot about you.
I'm hoping that the paperwork on the house will move forward this week. We both woke up in the early morning with indigestion from worry.

If you're on a phone, and you shift the phone slightly, you'll lose your post. Long ones are best typed on a computer (laptop, desktop, etc.).2 -

Painted rocks yesterday. When they're dry I'll post pics.👍
Yesterday I had a nice chat with middle son. He and his wife live in Vancouver WA and seems content and happy. His wife is studying to be a nurse, but will take a semester off to take ENT classes so she can part-time work as one, instead of part-timing at Home Depot. Smart on her part. They seem happy, but sometimes their interactions seem more like roommates than husband and wife.
Later in the day I then received a call from youngest son. He's starting week 4 of his 8 weeks of Operations Specialist school. He seemed perfectly jolly! He said most of his classmates are so young and wet behind the ears! Funny, my son feels so weathered and seasoned sailor because he was in Nuclear school for a time! Failing Nuclear school might have been the best thing that has happened to him. He got a 100% on first week exam, 92% 2nd week, and 100% on 3rd week! Grasping material, and not on the verge of failing, has done wonders for his moral👍💗. But I miss that sweet boy of mine!
Pics of them so you can know them too💗.

Youngest son last Christmas when he had leave! 8 months of not seeing him. Hopefully he'll have leave again this next Christmas.
Well each of them seem like they are going down the road (of life), so all I can do watch and pay attention. Appreciate the moments when they do call and connect. Not wallow in the time between them.💗
Happy Sunday all!

My eldest son's cute Japanese truck at a Hot wheels car meet yesterday! It still needs a lot of work, but hopefully it will be drivable before it gets too cold here. He rides his bike, in his uniform, which has to be uncomfortable!
Love reading your posts, Rebecca! They make me smile and sometimes cry! Reading about not seeing your youngest son for 8 months reminded me of the time my eldest daughter went travelling for a year. It was the longest time apart we'd ever spent. I'm very fortunate that all my three daughters live very close to me.
Love the photo's of your dear family.
All the best

Morning, my BP is improving, so fortunate at this point in my life I can shift choices and behavior and correct course. Just can’t let it slide or take my good health for granted. Will remain very mindful of food choices, tiny steps
Kim happy birthday love your self care and standing up for what you want! Also, great haul from the thrift store.
I’m heading to the discount store to return 5 shirts, I’m keeping 6! Shirts that are appropriate for the trip and a neater/professional wardrobe refresh for start of the school year.
Just read this and can so relate as a teacher: August is the Sunday of summer, so true!

On Sunday my village organized a café to raise money to maintain the old one-room schoolhouse so many of my neighbors went to when they were kids. In addition to coffee and soda we sold sandwiches and various kinds of cake. We prepared a MOUNTAIN of sandwiches and I was worried we would end up with leftovers. (200 sandwiches is a lot when the entire island has a permanent population of only 62!) We did have leftovers, but not as much as I feared. 85 people signed the guest book! I think we did pretty well financially, and only a few of us had to take sandwiches home.
The café ran from 12 to 4, and in the evening those of us who live in the village got together for a barbecue, eating indoors because it had started raining. As we were sitting around chatting, one of the kids took it into his head to guess people's age. He looked at Bjørn, seated on my right, and estimated him to be 71. Bjørn protested that he was much younger than that, and after some "warmer-colder" hints, the 10-year-old finally landed at the correct number, which was 64.
Then the kid turned to me and asked rhetorically "So how old are you?" His mother, seated across from me, warned "Whoa, asking a woman her age, that's dangerous," but he persisted. No problem, though, because his first guess was 53. :flowerforyou:

Drkatie - I did the quiz and came out as a Ladybug. That is accurate. Everything looks tidy and clean on the surface, but in hidden places there is a hideous mess. Story of my life!
The cure, apparently, is to pre-organise the places where I hide things, so I've bought a cutlery drawer to put in the desk drawer I cleared out this morning. I did find my gall stones. Keeping those. They are yellow pyramids.
I also emptied a bag containing a very old laptop and early digital camera. They are for the dump. Lots of connecting leads.
Then I set myself to winnow out the DVDs. Coolected a huge bag to take to the charity shop. Just kept a few very favourite foreign films and one or two of DH's purchases.
The charity shop was delighted to get my tinsel, spiral Christmas tree, which they will use in the window for Christmas. Plus a good leather belt and an evening purse made of brass and copper. I like it, but I'll never wear it.
So a very good day on the decluttering front.

Cheri - We are with you.
And Kim, HAPPY BIRTHDAY for whatever actual day it is! :drinker:
Just made Spinach and Feta Pie. I was sooooooooooooo tired I had to rope DH in to help me. Now he is dismantling the laptop.

Lanette: I haven't seen fog lately, but DH is up earlier than I am and he has seen what he calls "summer morning fog." It has been gone by the time I get up. I have noticed a change in the weather to more of a late summer/early fall pattern. :flowerforyou: I am so glad you sent the links for "The Skinny on Fat." I watched every episode and found the messages to be supportive of the way I have been eating. I can't digest real butter or milk unless it has been stripped of lactose, and I'm grateful for all the cartons of lactose free milk at the grocery stores.
Rita: I hope you enjoy your trip to Idaho. Do you have a specific destination in mind or are you planning to sample this and that? We have family in Idaho--adult nieces and nephews. Perhaps you can go to Yellowstone while you're there. It touches Idaho near Ashton and West Yellowstone. :flowerforyou: DH has been diabetic since he was in his late teens. He tells me that a fasting blood sugar should be between 80 and 120. It looks like you'll be "in the zone." Let us know if you feel better from the change you're planning.
SueBDew: Welcome back!
Kim: Happy Birthday! Good for you for being clear with friends and family about your preferences.
Barbie: I hope your call to the doctor will result in you feeling better.
Machka: "If you're on a phone, and you shift the phone slightly, you'll lose your post. Long ones are best typed on a computer (laptop, desktop, etc.)." This fits my experience, too. I record all my eating and exercise on my phone, but when I want to communicate with the group I use my computer.
Karen UK: I envy your good luck that all of your children live nearby. Mine are far away.
Penny: The young man who guessed your age was observant enough to realize you are youthful and in good health, so he guessed a lower age number.
(((Cheri))) Sending good thoughts.
Heather: I had my gallbladder our years ago. I had only one gallstone, but it was the size of a robin's egg. I have felt a lot better without the gallbladder and the stone.
Yoga today! Yay!!! Tomorrow will be busy with medical appointments for DH and car service for both of our cars.

Well, well, well. Was too tired to eat my evening protein boost bowl of yoghurt with honey and dark chocolate, so only got 42g of protein... BUT... for the first time EVER, came in under the MFP sugar goal... AND, weighed in 2.5 lbs less this morning. Only posted 1 lb loss in check in, but v. encouraged. So encouraged that I stopped at 1 cup of honeyed tea this morning, instead of my usual 3. Might make Alondrate days "added-sugar fast" days.
Lisa thank you for going "all philosophical" on the subject. Your perceptions are both wise and welcome. emails back to 2014 "in her inbox". Oh my.
Machka you are the tigress defending your hubs and your home. Brava! Wish I could fill out your forms and file for you, that is right up my alley.
Margaret ((hugs)) what an awful time that was! "..no clue what that person is going through" when someone treats us ill, amen sister!
NYKaren your "white coat syndrome" to Vickie is right on. Another element is manual vs machine. Whenever nurse takes my BP the old fashioned way, it's just fine, but that danged machine makes it skyrocket. Good for you for monitoring, avoiding the meds. Don't want anything to mess up your big trip!
Katla wish you had a riding buddy so you could go on the trail, but glad you're taking the safe route. Enjoy!
Rye can you archive all 90+day old emails from your inbox to a "history" archive just before the monthly inbox purge? My personal emails go back to 2002, but in folders, mostly ;} Past time to purge some of those but I'd better spend my time decluttering the office/exercise/music/crafts/sewing/omigosh room. At worked I had archives back to the company's first e-mail-from-telex system, but as the systems changed the archives gradually became inaccessible. ;(
Lanette Gravenstein apples, love their scent!
Kim what a great birthday gift to give yourself, and reminder to the rest of us to Ask "What would you like" and LISTEN to the answer ;}
Barbie fingers Xd the Dr. has a good plan. Brava for finding such a positive outlet for your energy.
Rebecca love your son's truck! Has it really been in the shop for over a year?
pip glad you're taking care of yourself. Wise woman! Hope you feel better soon. Smooch, smooch, SMOOCH those pooches!
Cheri pockets full of us. hang in there.
Welcome Angel1960, let us know what you'd like to be called and generally where you are.

Yep its been in the shop for over a year! The fact that he was out to sea at the beginning part, and that my son gave him a boatload of money before he left probably didn't help! He was under qualified to work on such a big project. It was an engine swap, and it involved making the truck have a wider wheel base to support the engine. Then it involved the guy making wheel fenders. He was having to get someone to weld parts, so my son has the patience of a saint!
Now I just want him to finish before winter comes! My son is riding 10 miles every day.

Just found the tail of what was presumably a fairly large lizard in my tennis shoe, where Egg was peering, which was what drew my attention. I evicted said body part, which made her very frustrated. I'd be OK with the whole thing if I knew where the rest of the blinking thing is...
Lisa,
Having a Monday in AR6 -

After they've checked them through for any problems they will send them on to us, so we should get them to sign sometime next week. DH told them he was not at all amused that they don't keep their promises to ring us back.
So it's some kind of progress. I think we are too far down the line to sack them as they have all the paperwork done for our sale. We will report back to our agents and maybe on some kind of feedback system.
Decluttering de-stresses me and makes me feel I am doing something. As well as boxes of paper I also got my old dolls out, the ones I wrote about in my memoir. I'm not getting rid of those and have a lot of doll's clothes as well. Also I found some seminal clothes from my past. The shirt I made for myself to have my three babies in. The dress I met my first husband in. The rugby shirt of his I wore to a party. Keeping those for now. All those things are in a nice wicker basket.
What I am getting rid of is my grandmother’s embroidery and crochet lace collection. She didn't make it, just bought it. I have put it on Freecycle and have had two replies. The first reply was from a pensioner's crafting club, so I'm pleased it's going to a good home. The lace pieces are lovely.
I can imagine lovely cushions or quilts, but I'm too lazy to make them.

My daughter and I have been buying old doilies at antique fairs for her wedding next summer. I had about 6 that were made by my Grandmother and a Great Aunt. She is making a doily table runner for the head table and the guest tables will all have one on a tray with antique medicine bottles, whiskey bottles and an ink bottle. Each bottle will hold baby's breath I believe.
