Karen - I will message Penny.
The books and CDs plus two old smart phones were taken by an Oxfam shop in Winchester that is only for books and music. They have a huge online database as well, so people can also buy that way.
I have found it hugely cheering that I can get stuff easily to people who want it. Sometimes there is a queue. Nothing has failed to go except jam jars. I don't even care if people resell it, but that's not the impression I've got. Some of the stuff that is advertised on there seems so unlikely, but people seem to want it. Stuff like a roll of wallpaper, or rubble!
No harm in trying something out. If you don't like it you can stop it.
I do still take stuff to the dump, which I find enormously therapeutic. They also recycle furniture and decent crocks.
Where I lived in London they had a day when you could take stuff down to a huge skip on the corner. No sooner had you put something there someone would take it. Occasionally I would put something, like shelves, out on the pavement with a notice attached, PLEASE TAKE. It always went.
Unfortunately, the people who could really use things like sheets or beds often don't have the transport, though some can often call on a friend with an old van. We do live out in the countryside.

Michele: Are your cats marking territory? I've never experienced a problem with cats peeing on any of our beds. It has been quite a few years since we had a cat, but they did their business in the kitty litter box when we did. We never kept more than one cat at a time. Good luck solving the problem. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: I hope that you feel better each day, and that you'll soon be able to end the prednisone. It is a useful medicine when needed, but it had some difficult side effects for me. I've been lucky enough not to need it for quite a while.
Machka: It is good that you stood up for yourself with the healthcare organizations. They obviously weren't seeing the big picture and you did a good job of communicating. I love the photos. You and DH are both looking good.
Rebecca:
Heather: Good luck. Buying and selling real estate is quite a challenge here, but it seems to be a lot tougher in Britain. :flowerforyou:
Karen: We have made a practice of donating useful items to the Senior Center Thrift Shop. The shop supports many of the services of the senior center, including meals on wheels for those who need them. We do not want strange people coming to our house. :noway:
DH had a tough day yesterday and is still in bed. He ate some pork roast that didn't agree with him, and spent a lot of time in the bathroom. He went to be early. We threw the remains of the pork roast away. I suspect it was slightly underdone and that is not a good idea for pork. I ate some too, but it didn't bother me. I didn't eat any that was even slightly pink, though. :noway:
I bought new bras yesterday because my old ones were worn out. The first store I went to had only huge padded bras in stock. They are remodeling and don't have their usual selection, so I stopped at Walmart just to see if they had anything that would do. I found two that fit great—and they are much smaller sized than my previous ones. I wore this size in college! I don't know how durable they'll be, but they are comfortable.

I thought I knew the answer, but just to be safe, I looked it up and I was right.1 -
I looked it up as well and didn't believe the first answer, so I tried another website that had a chart.

That's an easy one.
Do you want me to come right out and tell you ... or let others guess?
Incidentally, when I'm trying to make conversions for those who use Fahrenheit, I go with this rough estimate ...
0 is of course 32
5 is about 40 (41)
10 is 50
15 is about 60 (59)
20 is about 70 (68)
25 is about 80 (well, not really, it's 77)
30 is 86
It kind of breaks down the higher you go ... and the lower you go.
So the 14C I mentioned earlier is close to 15C which is about 60F, or specifically 57F. And quite a nice day for the end of winter.

Barbie, very relieved to hear from you, keeping you and Jake on "the list".
Rori, love your "be lighter" goal. So apt, for more than just the physical, ok if I borrow "lighter" for my word of the month?
Rye good to hear from you. Keep us in your pocket for the uncomfortable upcoming visits.
Michele, not to be blasphemous, but if a snake touched me in a pool I would surely runwalk on water.
Terry your ps shows the laughter through your tears. You are stronger than you know. When the bad feelings start to overwhelm, might try youtubing for chair exercises to help your upper body and heart. When all else fails, vent here with us, we are WITH you. (((hugs))) --added Brava for the leg lifts, gorgeous necklace but ditto Okie, your buddy.
Lenora "...put his Johnson in between plates and let her smash..." Amen sister! Strongly believe that if the male designers of the mammo machine had to have their appendages so examined annually, they'd design a device suitable for checking 3D round-not-flat body parts.
Heather "Six years ago I was unable to get into our car without lifting my left leg in with my hands. I was out of breath just walking on the flat. Life was just really uncomfortable." And now you run, eat healthfully and inspire me big time! Thank YOU!
Carol love the image of you, shoeless, wading through the streaming water puddles, childlike.
Wendy, great advice to Rye!
Rebecca "Scotty, don't beam me up yet..." ROTLMAO
Machka Brava! You have been more than flexible enough. Brava!
Katla congrats on the college size bras! What a great NSV!
Karen in VA 40 C is too danged hot in F
While prepping some raw veggies, I wondered, where's Penny? Then I saw Karen in VA's and Machka's posts. Glad to be on same wavelenghth as you both!

Had a complicated afternoon sorting out a HUGE box of stuff. One big file was plays written by my mother for her local community club. They acted them at various drama festivals. She directed them as well as wrote them. I've kept that file, but didn't look through it. There might be other stuff in there that needs attention. Still looking for my father's war record.
One big box file was a huge pile of all my writing correspondence. I've winnowed that down and just kept the most complimentary letters! It's nice to warm yourself sometimes.
Another file was my teaching and workshops. I used to teach creative writing and drama/psychodrama. Titles like "Images of Ourselves" and "The Creative Express" . I've also kept the reports of my teaching supervision which are highly complementary.
Plus I've kept correspondence relating to the play/performance SONG OF MYSELF, about Lou Salome, the German psychoanalyst, that I wrote and directed in 1991. I asked friends and family to be "Angels" and give me money to put the play on. It is warming to see how many responded and what lovely letters I got. We all need a boost.
Also found my boys' old school reports and early writings. Have put those aside to give to them. Amazing to see how little they have changed. :noway:
But I have chucked a mountain of paper away and fitted everything into a much smaller box.
Phew! It's been quite an afternoon reliving all that!
DH has now got the bug and is sorting files and shredding!!!

Hello all,
I’ve been having s pretty good week except for Thursday when DH and I went to the Legacy Fish Fry at church. The catfish was really good; I ate just a small piece, but then came all the salads and sides everyone brought. There was 3 lines with 3 banquet tables each to accommodate all the dishes. After that in the fellowship hall where the dining and entertainment was there was 3 banquet tables with all the deserts! I had a taste of a number of sides and desserts. Needless to say I was about 200 calories over on Thursday and I didn’t fare too well on Friday either.
So here it is Saturday, I just had my normal fruit and low cal toast and went for a walk. I need to watch it from now on! I bought my airfare to Vegas on October 19th to meet up with my best friend for the weekend of fun! She lives in Idaho and I’m in Arkansas. We’ve been best friends since 1982!
I’m on my iPhone so I can’t go back to recall who said what, but about hotels I really like a fridge, microwave, and pool. I’m going to have to buy a travel coffee pot and bring my own coffee, cream and sweetener.
The last two trips I stayed at The Courtyard hotel. Both were excellent and they had a pool and fitness center. No complaints on the amenities. I was driving by my self in the way back from Florida and I melted into the bed. I didn’t even eat dinner. A bottle of beer was my dinner!
Cats and litter boxes Cats do not like sharing litter boxes. That may be the problem. Or did the brand of litter change? Is the cat declawed? Some are tender if the litter is hard, like clay.
Barbie I hope you are feeling better!
Terry nice to see you back!
Rebecca I love the bathroom graffiti! Cute!! Someone had a sense of humor!
My DH took a picture of me last Sunday after church. It turned out pretty good!
3 pounds does make a difference how we look and feel!! My ankles are getting thinner!! Woo hoo!! (Not bad for 69!)
Love you all!

Way to go Heather!! ((((hugs)))), its definitely a roller coaster ride! Before each of my son's left for boot camp, I sat down with them, and we went thru their baby box and school papers. We threw a lot out, and would end up with a box of keepsakes. That box was sent to them at a much later time. We also had a box packed of civilian clothes, their laptop, and stuff they would be able to use once they graduated from boot camp. My eldest son had so many boxes of toys, that we rented a storage unit, we paid for the first couple of months, then it was his responsibility. Its interesting to see all his items now, throughout our home!💗

Hot as hades here,so did grocery shopping at 7am,then home to enjoy the AC The temps due to last 4 days.
TERRY IN VT,I remember your pretty jewelery.......new necklace is pretty too.Sorry for your problems. Dd’s friend in her 40s had foot surgery 6 wks ago & now the incision is infected. She can barely move at all,is depressed & Dr office gave her appt for 10 days later. How can a Dr ignore infection at his surgical site? Grrr.
HEATHER,we do have a couple places to get rid of stuff. One prob is,DH hates the ph calls & I am leary of strangers in the house. Furniture & stuff so easy to buy,but no one wants used whatever,so getting rid of it is no fun. WOW to the many files & papers you go thru!
At one time, both DDs loved that we had lots of room & seemed to think I was gonna be the storage lady. Holidays were coming & I got 2 boxes, both big enough to hold a W&D (&did). Filled them with their school papers, notebooks, grad books, lots of pictures, grad robes, junk etc. Wrapped them, added huge bows......so pretty. You should have seen the look on their faces.
“Mom,what am I gonna do with this?” Mean Mom said, that stuff is your problem.."...you decide.
Now they are both downsizing......does my heart good
Someone mentioned cook books. Used to have a huge collection. When we started traveling that was the 1st thing to go. Gave camping club their choice & rest to library.
Computers made them obsolete.Yesterday, went to new library & came home with 3 new books.......not sure they will get read but loved seeing the library. Used to be like my 2 nd home.
An elec transformer on DDs property in NC was hit by lightning. They are working/shopping this wk end to replace 2 TVS, & few other things. The AC had new motor installed yesterday. She was happy it didn’t kill her new computer.....only because she unpluged electronics before traveling for her job.
Been thru that & lost a new fridge with lots of food, what a mess!
Time for iced tea & to watch some golf. You all have a nice wk end. Pat C4 -
looking great Dana love the pic

Happy Saturday. This is my weekend to work so here today and tomorrow for 10 hours each. Then starting Thursday I am off for a week. We are going to Boulder, CO next Saturday as our grandson is getting married there on Monday evening. Planning to take our time going out and coming back Tuesday morning. Planning to go thru Imperial as have not been there since mom passed away 2 years next month.
Meg--sending hugs, realize it is not the same. You are such a strong woman. I enjoied the birthday wish for DH.
Had my 6 month checkup with the doctor yesterday and he is very happy with my AC1, it's 5.3. Then I had to get the new shingles shot. I said I got one when I turned 60 a year ago and he said that one is not good and now they have this one and it is 2 shots. One now and one in 3 months. Also going to try antinflamties for my knees. See how this works and if not better steriod shot will be next. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Barbie--Hope you feel better with each passing day. Time is the best with back problems. I am sure the couple understands.
Terry VT--Welcome back, One day at a time. Very nice necklaces and love the fur baby. They can be the best cuddle buddies.
Machka--Good for you sticking up for yourself. I admire you with all you are dealing with. Keeping you all in my prayers.
Out of time for today. Blessings, Vicki GI NE4 -
Barbara The silly trivia question I posed was in reference to MINUS 40 degress Celsius...1

Trish - the Freecycle site is done all by email not phone and if you don't want to see people you just put it out on the porch. I'm amazed at the stuff people go for. You can usually get an idea of what the people are like by their emails. I only answer the ones I like.
I'm a bit sorry to get rid of my boys' stuff as it's very nostalgic, but I feel it's their stuff, not mine. My elder son was delighted last year to have his toy dog back! I might copy one of the photos of his very best girlfriend at primary school. She was Finnish and I became friends with her mum and we all visited them in Finland. My elder son always got on with girls better than boys from a very young age. He is heterosexual, and very macho in his interests, (wargaming etc), but he has a really gentle and emotionally intelligent side to him. I'm pleased he at last has a male best friend at the age of 41.

Terry in VT, your pup pictures reminded me of a Rat Terrier we had that was a comic. His name was Kosmo he is gone now, we really miss him.

Dealing with a migraine for the last 3 days. I am supposed to be sensitive to chocolate and peanuts, but didn’t think of that and had a couple of Dove dark chocolates with peanut butter in them. I think that might be the cause.
Question: if you are on disability with Medicare and a supplemental insurance, does anything change when you turn 65?

Machka I wish the people you are trying to coordinate could be easier to work with. You have so many balls in the air that it is more than enough. The fact you even were able to give them three dates to chose from is amazing. Maybe they typically deal with only retired people who are not busy. I would like to know where they are too. It is frustrating they didn't just pick a date without having you to explain yourself.
I Know when I try to coordinate with more than one friend and sometimes just with one friend how difficult that can be. I had one retired friend who had to pencil me in a month and a half in advance. When the day came she said she had to babysit. Then she changed her mind and we got together for 45 minutes before she had to go. Amazingly we are still friends. She is one who has a hard time saying NO! We now go to exercise 2-3 days a week. She doesn't drive so I pick her up. She is right on the way so it works out just fine. She has had me over for brunches and tea so it is a give and take relationship.
Being respectful of yours and others time is a hallmark of being a good friend. It is something I work on because I am one who does have trouble pacing myself, too.

Hi friends. Things are ok here. Yesterday was summer graduation which took up the whole afternoon then DD#2 and I went out to dinner. Today her best friend invited both of us to lunch, and now we are going to dinner at some friends'. Good grief. I will have to get back on the wagon...TOMORROW. Our friends usually cook healthy, low fat meals, so I'm not too worried but holy cow I think I've eaten buckets of food in just 2 days!
I am loving the pictures, especially the pets and the creative creations!
DH said he laughed so hard when he read my birthday jingle his coffee came out his nose. Someone asked where I found a card like that, I made it up and sent it as an email. But you started me thinking...I may have to get a side gig creating cards for inmates and their special occasions! Wouldn't that be a hoot? We are now down to 29 months left! I can't wait to see him Friday!!!
Sending healing thoughts to those who need them! Seems like we have had a fair number of health concerns lately.
I'll stay and chat longer tomorrow! Everyone, thank you for all your support. Take care, Meg from Omaha7 -
Meg Oh my gosh I think your idea of creating cards for inmates is fabulous. Fun and perhaps profitable, too!1

Karen VA- as usual, when I read your celsius/farenheit riddle, my eyes crossed and my brain floated out of my head. Math does that to me. But curiosity got the better of me after I saw others posting and guessing. I googled it once, twice (because I thought I did it wrong the first time). If Google is right, it is a very strange problem. lol Geez I hate math.2
