I had a sudden rush of blood to the head and did a quick burst of decluttering!
Really winnowed the Welsh dresser and had half a table full of crocks to take to the charity shop. Some are DH's, but he swallowed hard and let them go. Some are my bottom drawer from my first marriage. Then attacked the cabinets of glasses. Lots of those went. Random plates, bowls etc went. Some are for the dump, if they are cracked.
Then emptied a box of old makeup. Then some clothes for the charity.
I feel sooooooooooooo much better.
A little bit nearer my goal of minimal living.

Hi all: Happy August! Today is my mom's 94th birthday. She shares her day with a DGD. DD birthday is coming up on the 12th but we will be in Iowa then for family reunion. Nice cool day here today for a change. Got groceries done. Having my sister here recovering from broken femur really messes things up. I am so ready for her to be out of my house. Brother in law is also driving me nuts. He left my front door open so their dog could go in and out at will with no regard for my puppy and cat. Puppy is only 7 months and needs not to be left free to go where ever and cat is indoor only. Don't know what she would do outside. Sister claims her dog is a service dog who trained itself. It is supposed to help with her PTSD. I am really tired and getting more and more cranky.
Barbie - Glad you are doing okay.
Lisa - Yay for getting this month started.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA11 -

Happy August 1st ladies!
Lisa - thank you for getting us up and running.
Barbie - hope you are doing better and your doc visit was productive.
Rebecca - glad you are driving around the island a bit. I really like the kitty photos you find - and they don't make me sneeze, lol. Hope your DH is on the mend
As far as July - what an amazing month for education on how and why my body works as it does. My goals were to continue with some intermittent fasting and keeping up with my steps and SWSY.
But last month I came at it from a different direction with the discovery of high morning fasting glucose. While my doc confirmed my A1C was good and overall things were doing well despite FBS of 110+ after 12-14 hours of fasting, I decided to really buckle down and eliminate added sugar/processed foods/simple carbs-starches.
So, I'm now eating 50% to 60% of mainly healthy fats. Carbs around 30%, protein around 20%. Net carbs (carbs minus fiber) in the 60 to 90 gm range.
I didn't really do this to lose weight, mind you, but have taken off three pounds in the past month. My love handles are shrinking a bit, waist down to 33" and hips down to 45" which tells me there's a bit of belly fat gone. I will have to shop for new jeans one of these days if this keeps up.
I am drinking a lot of black coffee - it no longer bothers my stomach.
A couple tidbits I picked up from the Skinny on Fat series - eat like we ate in the 1960's before saturated fat became the enemy. And, shake it up like our ancient ancestors did on the savannah. Fast now and then, or at least go 16 or more hours without eating every couple weeks (intermittent fasting). If I'm having a really hungry day, I grab a couple handfuls of nuts. I figure I eat 2 to 3 oz of them per day, all different kinds, and they are my favorite food - used to be "forbidden" because of the high fat. I'm getting plenty of calories.
Also learned that as we get older, we need more protein to keep our muscles from wasting.
So I guess goals for August - continue down this path, keep learning, do things that will get me healthier. I plan to redo lipids and A1C test in November and will be curious to see the results of this experiment.
Again, all of this is what is currently working for me. We need to find our own paths.
That's it for now ladies. Hugs all around!

Hi all. I am about 50% better but very tired. I got blasted with antibiotics since it was heading to my kidney. But symptoms are starting to improve.
I did fair on July goals, lost a couple more pounds but still haven't been exercising the way I should. I also Increased the amount of fruit I was eating.
Barbie: get better soon!
LisaNC: thanks for starting this thread!
Rebecca: Loving that cat!
Hi Dandle: what shall we call you?
OK I"m heading to bed for a nap! Take care, Meg from Omaha where the weather is way too nice to sleep!6 -
Sue in WA ~ So sorry your sister and brother n law are being pesky. Hope you will have your abode to yourself again soon.
Lanette ~ All the information you have shared on nutrition is very interesting. It is inspiring that you pay so much attention to your health.
Got my tag renewed today and now have to go renew my driver's license before my birthday approaches. Dread the lines that are usually there to do so.
My 14 lb pom has decided that he can go down the stairs to the outside again. This is very good because my DH will not have to go on a poop walk with him.
Carol in GA4 -
Meg, glad you are starting to improve. Bladder/kidney infections are nothing to sneeze about. Painful and scary.
I started today with reading in bed drinking a moffee that my hubby brought me, then working out with weights and kettlebell while listening to "First Lady" about Winston Churchill's wife, now I've done the dishes and having a cuppa, then I'm heading out for morning chores.
My goals for August are to 1. Reach my Happy Place and stay in it! 2. To make progress on my book, quilt, garden and paintings. 3. To make progress on my horse training. I don't care if it's only a little progress as long as it's progress. Somewhere I read, "Slow progress is still progress" and it beats standing still and it really beats going backwards. Once you've got a little momentum, you can figure out how to rev up your speed a bit.
August is the last month of winter here and so many signs of spring coming are all around me: lambs and daffodils, the haunting scent of daphne, magnolia trees bursting into glorious sky-filling bloom...and I've got a new foal to look forward to...and MAYBE the chihuahua might also produce a baby. We took her to visit a boy wawa but they only f'd around. LOL They didn't tie so we weren't sure whether she is pregnant or not. My youngest daughter wants me to go to a big horse extravaganza with her in October and my middle daughter wants me to do a famous hike The Queen Charlotte with her this summer...so lots of exciting upcoming events...I love having things to look forward to. It is an absolute necessity in my life. Wendy
PS Was trying out a camera that I plan to give to my middle daughter yesterday. Here are two of the pics I took: Fatty, my orange fluffball cat and Lil Joe, my mini-appaloosa lawn mower.

Hi Friends.
Lisa: Thanks for getting our August thread started. You have such a great 'can-do' spirit.
Barbie: I hope you are finding relief and answers for your back pain.
Sue in WA: So sorry your DS and DBIL are so inconsiderate. I hope they move on soon and can reclaim your home again.
My little home improvement adventure turned out well. Yay! We are ready for the next phase which is tiling the front of the fireplace. I had to special order the tiles, so crossing my fingers they arrive before Saturday when the handyman will be back to continue the work.
Although my weight is moving down at a glacial pace, I'm really happy with how more toned I am due to almost daily swimming and aquatics. Wish I had taken measurements at the start of summer. I don't like indoor pools, so taking full advantage of the condo pool while it is available. Most mornings, I have the pool area to myself = Joy!!
Resolutions for August are very similar to July, with addition of the photo project. BTW: I forgot to mentioned it, but BIG THANKS to whoever it was that said they used an app on their phone to scan and save photos. I downloaded Photo Editor Pro and am very impressed at how easy it's making this task.
Stay well. We can do this. Just keep on keeping on....

August resolutions:
> Meditate and practice Reiki daily
> Swimming and aquatics everyday, if possible
> Embrace and appreciate being able to serve as my DH's caregiver
> Start on scanning family album #2
> Be lighter

Lisa Thanks for the August thread!
Tomorrow I am taking the grandchildren to the Science Museum for the Body Worlds: Animals Inside Out exhibit. I hope they like it.
Karen in Virginia8 -
Did water aerobics today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a 21 Day Total Body Workout DVD
You have no idea how many many times I’ve looked at this chocolate cake I made for Vince and was oh so tempted to have a piece. I constantly thought to myself “will this nourish my body”. I’ve even gone so far as to put a bowl of cherries in front of it so every time I look at that cake, I take a cherry. I don’t know what it is that I’m so tempted today. Usually something like this (having the cake) doesn’t bother me. But I’m resisting. I admit, I did have a mouthful, but I figure the exercising probably compensated for that. It really was only a mouthful
Janetr – for years (literally) I’ve been at approximately the same weight. Same as you, up a few, down a few. I tried losing more but honestly I would look and feel like c***. I’ve now gotten to the point where I’m feeling like this is where my body wants to be and unless I really restrict, I’m not going to lose. As long as I feel good, my clothes fit, I’ve accepted that this is me, like it or leave it. If someone doesn’t like it, then they don’t have to look
Shadow has an automatic feeder so I filled that. There are 5 feedings in it. I haven’t figured out a good system of when to fill it.
Came home from exercise and Vince was working on the legs for my flamingoes. The second one will probably be fired tomorrow
Dee – welcome! Boy, you sure have had your share of problems, come here often for lots of support. A wedding is a great motivator.
Rebecca – big congrats on all your accomplishments
Didn’t do much today. Went to exercise, stopped at the salvation Army and ceramics tonight.
Artistes – welcome also! Great goal

I saw my doctor today and have some new meds and a referral to physical therapy for evaluation. On the way to the car my right leg buckled when I went down the one step and I fell but didn't hurt myself. The doctor is cautious and started with a five day treatment with Prednisone. She also prescribed a pain med and muscle relaxer to use as needed. After five days of Prednisone and the physical therapy evaluation, she'll know if an MRI is the next step.
I am reading all your posts but am too self-involved to reply personally. You are all so special to me and I cheer your success and send hugs for your challenges.
Barbie from NW Washington13 -
Barbie, sending you HUGS. I wonder why your leg buckled going down that step?. Perhaps a sudden lack of nerve impulse getting through, blocked by inflammation? Are you taking some turmeric or other anti-inflammatries? Getting your hubby to rub Tiger's Balm on any sore back areas? You were lucky you didn't hurt yourself. Try to stay safe for the next five days until someone figures out what's going on.
Well, today I am trying to figure out what to do about two different courts wanting my body on the same day. The cop in charge of the case has never answered the email I sent him so I rang the courthouse and they said to send an email stating why I could not make it to the court case. I did that, and then the court person emailed back and said they would write a letter to get me out of jury duty so I could witness in court...I said okay but that I wanted vehicle expenses to cover the 176 mile round trip I would have to make (in a borrowed vehicle as my van still overheats after 30 minutes!) And then they said that would be up to the cop in charge of the case and I said he hadn't answered my emails... so the saga continues...
Gotta go, my student is here. Wendy4 -
I had s good day today!
I went to the Water Aerobics today and had lots of fun even though my shoulders were burning!! I kept up with the group pretty good and the music was cool too!
I hope y’all that haven’t felt well are getting better and Barbie before anyone touched me I had a MRI. Within a month I was getting a fusion on my back.
Then I did 6 weeks of physical therapy.
Have a great Thursday!

Lisa- thanks for getting us started!
Margaret - thanks for your effort as well!
Wendy - I decided to hold off on my five-day fast. Too much going on here with special events and not so special events! I'm going to wait till we go back to Arizona. There I have a lot of control over daily activities. Thanks for the information on supplements.
Update on my daughter, she will be having surgery in the near future. It will be done by a robot. Not sure how that works! She will have five incisions in her abdomen. That's as much as I know! Update on my daughter-in-law, she will also be having surgery. They wanted to do a complete hysterectomy but she just had major surgery where they fastened everything in place on her insides. So they are going to do something on the inside instead of removal. Then while that will be going on my husband will be up north farming with his brother for five weeks. I will be helping at the farm as well as helping my girls when needed. I am very glad that we are retired so that we can be of help to other family members during their time of need.
July goals I don't even remember what they were! All I know is that my clothes still fit! I also swing my kettle bell 6 to 7 days a week. I can see my muscles are looking very nice. And I have very little fat on my body. The squats that I do with my kettle bell are giving me a very nice butt lift. The swings that I do with my kettle bell have toned my body from head to toe. The kettle bell along with eating a keto diet which is a fat burning diet has eliminated all the fat from my stomach. Yes ladies it is possible at our age to not have stomach rolls! Or a muffin top!
August goals
1. Eat a keto diet when not at a special event.
2. Kettle bell workout 6 to 7 days a week.
3. Enjoy time with family and friends.
Word for the month-gratitude
Have a great day everyone!
Mary from Minnesota \ Arizona
Do you do a specific kettlebell workout? If so, is it on YouTube or DVD?
Tracey in Edmonton1 -
I wanted to check in just to give an update on my July progress. I lost 4.4 pounds when I compare July 1 to August 1. My progress on MFP does not show this accurately because I only log losses and I’m up a bit today compared to my last loss. My measurements show 2.5”.
Tonight I felt like I achieved a goal at swimming. I swam from the deep end into the shallow end. I’m still not confident enough to try the other way or go swim laps but it’s a step in the right direction at least. Tomorrow night will be my last night for this session since I am going out of town Friday I will miss the last class. This is my second set of lessons since April.
Barbie - I sure hope you feel better soon.
Margaret - hope your girls’ surgeries go well
Dana - I was looking at the water aerobics schedule tonight. I think I’m going to try this.
A storm just blew through, I think it is calm enough now I’ll be able to sleep.

Hugs for Barbie. What a frustrating business.
Woke up at 4 am. Worrying about the move. Read for a while. Went out for a run at 5.45.

July - How'd I do?
✔Lose Weight. Lost 3.6 lbs.
✔Experiment. Tracked my Blood Glucose daily. Learning, And it's motivating me to do what it takes to keep my numbers in the normal range.
✔ Exercise. Got exercise back into my routine. I'm using my Fitbit to track active minutes. I'm not so concerned about number of steps. I'm more concerned about the amount of time I'm moving at enough of an intensity and duration for it to register as "active" minutes.
Goals for August:
1. Lose weight
2. Monitor blood glucose
3. Exercise - avg 30 minutes/day.
4. Track daily in MFP.
5. Declutter. 30 Bags in 30 Days.
Ginger in Texas5 -
Do you mind if I join you? I need some goals to focus on.
I'd like to lose 3lbs in August and also improve on the weights I am lifting.
If anyone feels like friending me I'd appreciate that too. Always good to help one another keep on track.
Thanks.6 -
Barbie, get better soon. Hug. Thanks for starting us into August, its helped me very much to read some of the thread for July.
Goals for August: I want to stay under 1200 calories a day and lose 8 pounds. This gives me September for 8 more, then October to slow down for the last 4. My July goals were met with my step count and calories, so I am going to continue to do the steps every day in August.4 -

Barbie, that's scary, glad your doc is taking it seriously. Your back affects EVERYthing, as you know, and a random nerve impulse (or lack of one that should have been there) can have odd consequences. Thinking about you!
Zippy62, Gamliela, all new ones, welcome! Please let us know what you'd like to be called, and some geography, which is how we keep each other straight.
Traveling today, lots on my mind work-wise, back tomorrow or Saturday morning, just according to how tired I am Friday afternoon.
Love y'all,

Good morning ladies!! I am from Prince Edward Island/50 years old
July:
Lost 5 pounds
Amped up my walk to 8km plus
August...I am hoping to keep it up. I have 11 left to lose before I re-evaluate. I find I am having to work so hard to lose weight now that I am getting to the lower number, but it will be worth it in the end,

Been there, done that. What gives people the right to assume? And we all know what happens when one assumes....
Seriously, are you anywhere near a university? You might be able to hire a grad student studying social work, physical therapy or neurology, etc. To be a patient advocate and help you with the mounds of paper. They won't be as invested in keeping him as a revenue generating patient as the private nursing services are.
CJ
@CSSJ09 ...
I attend a university one day each week. I'm working toward a Master's degree. I am a grad student.
We have a great homecare worker from a private service which is, of course, all covered. And my husband attends Community Rehab several times a week. Also covered. That's not where I need the help.
I just need someone to file paper!!
I have been in touch with one person who might do that for me, and have also contacted my university. But before I can proceed, I do need to get myself somewhat organised and these days I have no time to do that. Maybe in a month or so.

Packed up the junk crockery for the dump.
Then I packed good stuff for the charity shop in my wheelie shopper, plus glasses in a plastic crate. Hope to get that taken over this afternoon.
I decided to put the blue and white dinner/tea set on Recycle as it is in very good condition and is only missing one saucer.
Someone is coming over today to pick up an electronic hand dynamometer I advertised.
Hate being so anxious and angry in the night. Useless energy wasted. A nap is in my future.
Someone at yoga gave me a huge marrow. I'm going to recook the mince I rescued from the freezer as a sort of bolognese and have the marrow and some cabbage with that.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx5
