Happy New Year! I was able to wake up today on Jan. 1st with no hangover; I went and worked out and had the online counselor session. Everything is looking good today!

My laptop is back at the Techno Dr. I just had a new hard drive installed in October & it is being stupid again. I told them whatever the issue is this is a freebie cause it should not be giving me grief already. Rrrrrrrrrr!! Is there anyone here who knows anything if this nature? SO frustrating!! Especially because I know so little & feel I am at their mercy!2

I have recently had some reminders of why I am so glad that I am working to continue to stay sober. Watching people manipulate & lie to be able to continue killing themselves with alcohol is one of the saddest reminders. And they cannot see because they are clouded by denial. How many DUIs does a person need to accumulate & losing family members & others who care about them. My biggest fear when I was drinking was getting to the point where I did not care if I stopped drinking. Not just stopping caring about myself but about those who I claim to love. Alcohol kills in more ways than one. It can rob us of a quality of life that sobriety enhances.
I hope that everyone is succeeding in their fight4 -
One more blurb from moi. I was gifted another two bottles of vino yesterday & went to a meeting last eve & had a surprise re-gift for two of my moderate-drinking friends. I refuse to gift any alcohol to problem drinkers for obvious reasons.
A side note: as I was contemplating re-gifting the expensive wines I received, the "expensive" end of things began swirling in my brain....then I thought, "what is the difference between an expensive bottle of poison & a cheaper bottle of poison?" Just the price cause it is still poison done up in nicer packaging. It just costs more to poison you. That's about it!5 -
Yep Lorraine it's all the same crap just a fancy name on it😁3

I was asked after being AF for this long what would you have to give up if you have some drinks
Good health good sleep clear headed mornings. Watching the sun rise on my runs
Early morning swims sharing breakfast with my grandson when we visit
He was puzzled all for a few drinks he asked
No I said for all the drinks that followed once I started back since I can’t guarantee stopping again13 -
Good morning friends! I've been hibernating for a few days; reading a lot, spending time with my children, binging on Game of Thrones, etc. I am doing well without alcohol. Was slightly tempted yesterday to have a reward lunch for a job well done, but then my kids texted me they would like to go to dinner and sleep over. And I was so thankful I didn't drink before those texts. Wishing you a great day!
I also enjoy communicating daily with my BetterHelp counselor. She recommended a book about goal setting and taking charge of your life "Girl wash your face". I ordered it and am enjoying reading it. One of the takeaways from the first chapter is that you tend to keep promises with your friends but when you promise yourself something, you make excuses or not follow through. Good point!6 -
I was at the movies and saw this Gold Tea commercial. It made me feel really good about our goals to be sober. It showed all the fun things in life without a shred of alcohol because it was a iced tea commercial. It was refreshing! LOL- pun intended!

I'm ready for the Las Vegas heat here, however I'm trying to NOT rush time, last year flew by in a dash! I hate the cold we get here,it's not cold by other standards but cold for me and makes me a tired, miserable sloth haha! 6:45 am in Vegas another 24 💖, hope everyone has a wonderful AF day!3 -
@RubyRed427 I have noticed commercials promoting other AF drinks and young people having fun. Maybe this is no coincidence since Dry January has become a huge movement. Companies are taking notice. On a personal note I've lost 4 lbs since Dec 31. No doubt this is due to being AF because I am still eating candy. Trying to break that habit too. Have a healthy day, Everyone!

@whitpauly you are doing so well! Congratulations on remaining AF!6

Nice to hear that everyone is doing so well. 👍😊👍
I saw a concerning headline in a local article that highlighted a disturbing trend in our neighboring 2 counties: Impaired driving has increased by 81% in 2019. Eeeek!!!
There have been so many good efforts on the part of various agencies trying to fight the scourge of impaired drivers, but sadly as hard as they are fighting for a good cause there are powerful forces at work successfully promoting alcohol & glamorizing a drinking lifestyle.
Yet, each of us can do our small part towards some of the good by keeping up the fight in our own lives & really it isn't only about us individually but about those arounds us especially those who we love 💗

Drink driving accidents have been on the rise here too-fatal ones😲 very sad cuz not only the victims and their families but the young drivers who CHOSE to get behind the wheel will be in prison for a long time, 6:07 am in Vegas another 24 💖4

Hi Friends, I'm still here reading your messages. I am stuck in bed with the flu so I don't have anything to add to the conversation. But still reading your posts.6

New to the 'group'. I abstained from alcohol for three years until Nov of 2018.
I have once again given up booze as of Dec 27, 201910 -

Hey, Everyone!
Popping my head up to say hi and hope everyone is doing well with their goals! Hope you get well soon, @RubyRed427!
A few days ago, I hit 2 years AF I looked back at my journal entries for that first month...the Less Alcohol thread started by @RubyRed427 was instrumental in getting me started on this journey. I am so thankful for that thread and for access to a safe & encouraging place to post.
The book The Naked Mind was recommended in that thread, and I would like to pass on that recommendation to anyone else that wants to be AF. I read the book within the span of a few days back in Jan 2018 and it was a game changer for me. I had a few rough spots that first month, but the book had changed the way I think about alcohol and I cruised right on past those mental speed bumps and kept going. I had some concerns about enjoying activities without alcohol, especially during the holidays each year, but every single thing I was worried about never materialized.
Life is so much better in every single way, and there is nothing that I lost when I stopped drinking.
I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Awesome! The key words in that are "want to be AF" I kidded myself for years thinking I wanted to be AF but in truth I don't want it,want it so I'd do so many crazy things to try to moderate which only made me drink more it seemed, congratulations to you💗 6:42 am in Vegas another 24 of FREEDOM for me!6 -
Thanks @kcn2bluesky for that very inspirational post. I have read many books but I have not read that one. I'm going to order it right now.5

Hi everyone. I am 11 days sober. Just a start, but I can't believe how good I feel. Definitely going to keep it going. Thanks for all the posts, very motivational! Tim8

Thank you! I thought I wanted to be AF for years, but that just wasn't true. I wasn't ready for whatever reason. I tried moderation, but always escalated back to drinking 1-3 glasses of wine most nights of the week. I found moderation attempts to be riddled with failure & guilt. Committing to AF was the path for me.Thanks @kcn2bluesky for that very inspirational post. I have read many books but I have not read that one. I'm going to order it right now.
Thank you, @JenT304! I hope you enjoy the book. I purchased it electronically from amazon.com but you may be able to find it through your library electronically as well.4 -
This is a great book:
