Hooray for you, @FeelinFooFoo! You're ahead of me, time-wise, by 6 hours, so I'm thinking of you as you head into Christmas Eve evening. You have done so great!
Wishing everyone a happy Christmas, enjoying the many, many things there are to enjoy without alcohol!!
@RubyRed427, I'm convinced that the phrase that will be my undoing, if there is ever going to be an undoing, will be "Just one." I have to remember that for me, there is NO SUCH THING. It's like the Loch Ness Monster or the Yeti. the "Just One" creature is a total myth. Good for you for thinking it through to the end. Have a blessed Christmas!7 -
Here I go!
I figure why wait until new year 😀10 -
Welcome @CookieUnicornNinja! I think you will find our community supportive and helpful and I quite agree: Why drink like crazy on New Years Eve only to start a brand new year feeling yucky? Might as well start now. By Jan 1 you will already be feeling better.7

Merry Christmas to all!
I saw a quote that said the best gift you could give your family this Christmas is the gift of staying sober.
Peace!

Last night on Christmas Eve, we went to my parents on the next street. Completely sober meal and evening- no alcohol whatsoever anywhere.
My sister and I who are sober said we imagine there are a few families out there who probably ended the evening with arguments or drunken harsh words being spoken.
I told @JenT304 anytime I romanticize drinking wine, I make myself imagine the worst aspects of my drinking (hangover, illness, puffy face, anxiety, etc.) Keeps me in line for now.6 -

My favorite video.... as you know. I post it every year. Because it gives me hope and I hope it gives you hope.6 -
As much as this year was painful, the positive is several of us identified our desire to change our relationship with alcohol. That is such a beautiful result of this terrible year. If we can stay sober during 2020, then we can stay sober in 2021.

Merry Christmas, everyone!!
@RubyRed427, thanks for the annual Craig F. video. And you are so right . . . We began this journey in the hardest year possible to begin it. For me, it was because after 3 months of lockdown, I found myself sitting in my den, looking out the window, drink in hand, thinking, "What is the stupid point of living?" That was mid-June, and I decided then and there to get sober. I failed miserably after 5 days. Desperate, I joined the Sober School class that started July 6. My last drink was July 5. Christmas Day, Day 173, and I'm so happy to be alive.
My prayer for anyone else who is struggling because of alcohol is that the "thing" that finally clicks and brings it together for you will come. But don't give up if you're finding it frustrating at the moment. All my many Day One's were worth it because finally I had what I sincerely hope will be the final Day One.
Have a wonderful day, all!!7 -
A quote I just read on Instagram:
"People talk about catepiilars becoming butterflies as though they just go into a cocoon, slap some wings on, and are good to go.
Catepillars have to dissolve into a disgusting pile of goo to become butterflies.
So if you are a mess, wrapped up in a pile of blankets right now, keep going."8 -
@donimfp You said it ! For anyone frustrated that sobriety isn't sticking. Keep on trying! Please. You are so worth it. There is a rainbow after the storm. Even if you stay sober for today- you are building some momentum.
I figure if other alcohol dependent people can stay sober for months, years and even decades, why can't I?

Yes! If not today, then when?
Seize the moment- make some tea, pour out any temptations, eat something sugary if needed for the cravings... and take it one day at a time.5 -
Merry Christmas, Everyone! This is the first Christmas Eve/Christmas in a long time that I remember. That's the whole sentence, lol. Last Christmas I played, match the gift to the gifter and was still so unsure I could never say thanks. Made it through people drinking spiked eggnog (been craving the nog) and wine last night, and they're sipping champagne this morning. I made a mocktail with Kombucha, Pom juice, seltzer, and cranberries & rosemary garnish. Fancy is not just for the lushes! This morning, I made virgin Maine eggnog (added Maine maple syrup). If you have 3 of them and can pull off a French accent, you have a Maineggetois!
Cheers and Merry Christmas!

I have been enjoying quiet time doing a puzzle and listening to Gabor Mate on this snowy Christmas Day.
I shared it with my sister too. She's listening to it too at her house.
This is quite eye opening about addiction and why we reach for substances or self harm.
@lorrainequiche59 Thank you for mentioning him to us on this thread. I finally had the time to listen. https://youtu.be/c6IL8WVyMMs
I listened to this one. But there are many others that may be of interest.

@mainelylisa Love your pictures!! Fancy Is not for lushes! Love that!6

Foo Foo what a great experience. I’ll bet your partner’s parents were surprised. I’d love to know what he thought.
@mainelylisa, I love Maineggetrois! Good for you!
Lots of wins!5 -
Wow, Foo Foo! A tattoo is brave! When I feel a slight temptation, I look at my bracelet I got engraved with the date of my Day 100, but then, I could always take the bracelet off. A tattoo, not so much! But that's awesome. Do you know what the tattoo will be?
Happy Boxing Day, everyone!4 -
Foo, I am 57 years old and would not put a tattoo on my body, That being said,
I know the younger generation thinks this is much more acceptable. You do, however, seem not so sure?! Maybe a henna or semi perm one to see if you like it first? IDK. Whatever you decide, we support you!4 -
I like that idea, Foo Foo! No harm in having a reminder that you can do more than you dreamed. I should start thinking of my bracelet that way rather than a stop sign before I start resenting it! Sweet reminder of your parents. I almost got my first tattoo at age 57 when my granddaughter Rosemary was born. I love her so much! A pretty rosemary sprig on my ankle was my plan. But then I thought I might be obligated to get tattoos for any future grands. I now have precious Dorothy and could do ruby slippers but probably safest not to. But I can definitely see it for parents.4

Aww FooFoo. You’re being humorous but this can’t be easy. You are my heroine for sticking to your guns in such a crazy atmosphere. I’m really sorry. You deserve so much better.5
-
@FeelinFooFoo You are so strong! We are so proud of you! Even by sharing this, you are helping me a lot!
Last night, I was so depressed and missing being out with friends at a bar, but this reinforces that for a few hours of fun, a grueling hangover awaits.4 -

Some of us are well on our way to Dry December being complete.
Reflecting back to my first month of sobriety (September), I was bare knuckling it because I really wanted to take an edge off my day with a drink. Fast forward to December (nearing 4 months dry), I sometime still want that drink, but I don't want to ruin my streak.
For January, I'm going to have a sugar free January.5 -
This stuff is good. Maybe for New Year's Eve I will buy a six pack.

One of my goals this new year: go to therapy once a month ! I know that many of my issues around food and alcohol stem from difficult childhood. Not blaming my mom ; she did the best she could.
I just think by actually talking through the painful memories might do me good. Get it all out and then allow myself to heal. I already feel better writing this.5 -
I agree about the NA Heinken. It is the best one I've had.3
