Hi all. I’ve been away for months. Just checking in. I had a 50-day AF streak going and then had “one” drink on September 25. It took till MLK day to get to another Day 1. Hard lesson. So today’s day 7. Teaching in juvie detention has been wonderful and terrible and eye-opening. Tons of joy and tons of sadness. I won’t return next year. The job consumes my life. But I’m hoping the next 16 weeks will be an opportunity to be AF and healthy. Great to see y’all. No phones allowed at work so I can’t be a regular but will dip in for inspiration when I can. I really appreciate this thread.
We have missed you. Thanks for the update about your job. That must be so difficult and rewarding and exhausting....
Ahh the one drink... I remember that started on March 17 last year and didn’t get it in control until July 22. Must be typical human behavior when your brain is wired differently than a normal drinker. Sending you love and best wishes.5 -

I thought about initially and started getting aggravated AND then the light 💡 came on and I thought to myself how great I have been feeling. Deciding not to drink and waiting for “cocktail hour” to have a drink feels great. My desire to have a glass of wine went away quickly and didn’t think about it the rest of dinner, BIG YEAH!
I am being mindful of not drinking and the positives OUTWEIGH the negatives SO much! I don’t stop at one glass of wine. I know I change my eating habits when I am drinking...or should say lack of eating. SO BAD FOR ME. I am taking care of myself, I LOVE HER, ACCEPT HER and will be HER BF. It is much easier, obviously, to have positive talk to myself when I am making the right decisions and not apologizing to myself what I did the night prior.

Beautiful post. This inspires me. Self care: I love her, accept her and will be her BF. That is something i will remember. Xo4 -
I enjoy youtube videos about self helps. Stumbled upon The Untethered Soul author. What wonderful videos! Search for Oprahs Soul Sundays series. There are 5 min videos. One was about fear. And you need to watch fear pass you by instead of keeping pushing it away. Well, Michael Singer says it betters. This one is about change.... and why people resist it. I am going through a life change right now in my marriage. And I am staying sober despite it which amazes and delights me.

Thank you for this. I have some time to kill today and I was just looking for these type of videos to watch during that downtime. I'll check it out!

RubyRed,I hope everything is OK,is this an ongoing thing or something that started when you went AF? Or is it unrelated? Sorry I'm not trying to be nosy, just want to offer support and wish I could give you a huge hug everyone sounds like they're doing great,I'm doing OK just get a little bored in the evening but that's my own fault cuz I just wanna watch TV,hopefully when the weather warms up I won't be such an evening couch potato2

One of the reasons for getting sober last January and then again this past July was that I knew my marriage was going to end. It was my decision to end it. It was a long time coming. So, having a clear mind and strong sober spirit helped give me the courage i needed to make this life change. It is a roller coaster of emotions I am on. It’s heartbreaking when a relationship of over two decades is over. But being sober was a necessary stepping stone to gaining strength and courage.
I decided it was like training for a marathon. You have to make plans months in advance, fine tune your thinking, believe in yourself. ..... and then get unbelievable courage for five minutes to say what you’ve been wanting to say for awhile.

@RubyRed427 You are inspiration with your honesty. My heart goes out to you as I know what an incredibly hard decision to make and understand when you know you need too! Prayers to you during this rollercoaster time. I think you are one VERY smart lady to be sober and reflect knowing what your future looks like.
Support to you!!! ♥️ 💜 🙏6 -

Proud of everyone as we are closing up the month of Dry January!!! I will speak for myself that I feel like I am facing my issues with alcohol and rising above, by not drinking. I am facing the truth that I know I have an issue of not just enjoying one glass of wine, but rather have three, etc... I am not running anymore and accepting that type of behavior within myself!
All the best to everyone. 🤗 Hugs!!!10 -

Like your article!! thankyou for sharing4 -
@Fitness327wk I’m really proud of you for identifying how your relationship with alcohol is more of a hinderance and you want to make a change. One drink leads to three.... sounds familiar
It sounds like once you have admitted that to yourself, it is an awakening. There’s almost less pressure. A relief.4 -

Thank you for your hugs and caring comments. I’m doing quite well. The children took it much better than I dreamed they would. My parents and sister were amazing and supportive. And my husband is accepting and respectful. I know there will be more pain and hurdles in the future as the months pass, but for now, i am at peace. Love all the people on this thread. Such inspirations to me!8 -

If you're comfortable, please explain? I am in an IBR repayment plan.
