Great job on the races this past weekend!
Was battling a pretty bad sinus headache yesterday, so never made it out for a run. The weather was on and off rain yesterday with thunder, so that added to it. We were at the camper and it was warm out, so we sat outside and watched the rain. Thankfully, felt much better today and went out after we got home. It was drizzling/periodic mist, but it was kind of fun to be out in it.
9/1 - 4 miles
9/2 - 0
9/3 - 4 miles
8 total/ 50 miles goal4 -
0903-3.2k, total-14.5k, goal-100k
Epic fail of intervals last night. There were a total of five of them, and I got chased by a dog, laces came loose, ran into acquaintances who wanted to chat, and felt like I was going to puke, all on the fast sections. Did not hit my goal pace even once.
Upcoming races:
20181027 Mogan Ultra 30k
20181118 Shanghai Marathon (maybe)15 -

@Elise4270 - 9 miles today! Wow you are killing it!
Killing my knees/ITB.
@amymoreorless I count any deliberate exercise, run, walk, hike towards my monthly milage goal. Its your goal, and i consider all time on my feet (like slow *kitten* runs) still training/exercise.

Still easing back into it but at least I'm back out running. I wonder how many extra calories I'm burning with all the coughing while running...

04/9: 9km
September goal: 75km. Completed so far: 12.88km.
I can see that .88 really annoying me before long, will have to intentionally add 120 metres onto the end of a run this week to get rid of it!
Longest run ever this morning and all things considered I'm happy with it, especially as I was feeling physically drained and not quite right yesterday to the point that I skipped my strength training even though we're going on holiday tomorrow and I know I won't get the chance for a couple of weeks now.
Still, I had given myself permission (and strange as this will sound to some that's a big mental thing for me) to start trying out a run-walk method on my long runs so off I went with a plan to run 10 minutes then walk 1 over and over.
It went better than I had expected, not quite sure how it worked but my pace was only a few seconds per kilometre slower than usual (8 seconds per km slower than last week's non-stop long run of 8km) and still within the pace I'm aiming for at my half marathon. Legs feel surprisingly ok right now, fingers crossed they will continue ok as much of tomorrow will be spent walking round airports!
I will be trying to run while on holiday, mainly for my sanity!, but will be unable to report until after we get home :-)
Hope everyone's runs are safe and joyful in the meantime!

Totally missed my goal last month with only 116 miles... shooting for 150 in September.7

Already done a half marathon on 2nd Sept and am now training for my next HM on 14th October. Aiming for 15-20 miles a week (on top of 2 gym sessions a week and one rest day). I run 4 times a week - LSR on a Sunday. Running includes intervals training. Yes - I'm addicted
I am:
51 (birthday in October)
Married with 20 and 18 year old sons
Not a natural runner but have always done participation sport
Carrying 36.8% of my total body weight in fat - and this month I'm working on losing 3-4 lbs of it12 -
Not looking good for a run today. They are already announcing early dismissal of public schools due to "extreme heat"5
-
72 degrees with 95% humidity, along with something I am allergic to pollinating. 5 long slow miles with cool down, started wheezing at about mile 3.5 so breathing was off for the final 1.5, hit the inhaler as soon as I got back to the car and whoa man, head rush. Gonna have to remember the antihistamine for the next several days. Total 9.43/60.5 for the month.4

Sort of fell off the face of the earth at the end of August. I did make my 40 goal, but not my 50.
The past couple of weeks have been nothing but busyness and trouble. We moved the newlyweds out of the house (and cleaned up what was left), I went back to work, the kids started school, and a dear friend had emergency brain surgery. Now she is going to be living with us for the next few months while she heals and has treatment.
Hopefully our new routine will settle in and I'll find space in this schedule to run a few times per week. I'm signed up for a 5K in October, so my goal will be just to stay in shape so that doesn't feel like a marathon, lol. I'm not going to put a mileage goal on it, though, just that I want to run at least twice a week in September.8 -

@noblsheep It sounds like you had "one of those days!" Here's hoping today is much better!0
-
Slowly getting going - did week 3 day 1 of C25K yesterday. Cardiovascular good, legs weak today walking and yoga and will hit it again on Wednesday. Weather is cooling off here nicely, low 70's all week! YES!!!7
-
School closing because of heat, others with +90 temps and high humidity. We never had lunch pgms - everyone had to bring a lunch or go to town and buy one, some lockers could have a very pungent aroma if someone left a lunch in it over the weekend for a few days of ripening.
We had below zero last night and if the garden plants weren't covered the garden is finished.
Autumn colors were on the hills last week already and this frost will set everything into autumn gold and that autumn smell. Soon the trails will be covered in leaves and the trees will be bare.4 -

i'm done with summer now. the sun is trying to kill me and all the water in the air is too
first run was done late in the day. the first part of the day was warmer and the weather said it would cool off a bit in the afternoon after the many storms blowing thru. speed demon loves mud puddles. i bought new shoes, i needed them but i wanted to buy them online but i went to the store, absorbed info about marathoning in our area, so felt it appropriate to buy the shoes there. altra torin. i love them. slowly bringing them into the rotation. my stride feels so much better and i feel like i get full power instead of losing it when my foot hits the ground. it moved my strike from heel to midfoot.
the ten was run half at the lake with a breeze-speed demon started dragging, half at a dog park so speed demon could do what she wanted-she ran it with me, brat
yesterday-scheduled rest day so i went to closing day at the fair. i couldn't slither out of bed this morning. pooped and have to mow the lawn when i get home. it is a jungle. i'd lose a small dog in the backyard. so we'll see about running today. today or tomorrow i should do 5 miles with hills.

Some in Memphis have school in trailers, no money for larger buildings.
It's still ridiculously hot and humid here, but overnight the bug song changed from cicadas to crickets, maybe cooler weather is coming.1 -
Forgot to post here.
9/1 - 1.65 miles
Supposed to run today but there's a robotics meeting for my son so I don't think I'll have time I really need to get into morning running.2 -

We had portable buildings in HS, Dallas TX. Cheaper than a new building. Its not an uncommon thing in these parts.0 -

@CarolineEdw
Welcome to where the running addicts hang out! Be aware that, like all addicts, the runner may need increasing quantities to satisfy that addictive itch. It starts with 3 days a week, then 15-20 miles a week, then a couple half marathons, and the next thing you know your running buddies are pushing you into registering for a full marathon.
You'll fit right in here.6 -
Today I got to run 5.15 miles, and also ran miles four and five of the Twin Cities Marathon course. I woke up in a bad mood after some late-night anxiety over how the house-buying situation shook out (brain weasels!) and so of course everything else that happened in the first 15 minutes that I was awake pissed me off. Oh well. I went for a run and my brain mostly shut up for 5 sticky but not overly hot miles. It rained a little, I think, but not enough to really register.
Yesterday I caught myself wanting to put off lifting again and decided that was more than enough of a signal that it’d time to dial it back. I figure failing at a goal more than once or twice means it’s time to reevaluate the goal. Trying to rely on willpower or motivation or good intentions to change an outcome has never struck me as an especially effective strategy.
So I lowered my weights enough that I felt comfortable also cutting back the rest, and I got a perfectly nice workout done in half the time I’ve been spending lifting recently. I’ve been a little antsy about continuing to lift heavy with all the races coming up, so why push it? My arms aren’t going to whither and fall off if I bench 42 pounds 3x6 instead of 48 3x9.
Re schools without AC: A lot of the classrooms at my elementary school and junior/senior high in California were modular, which basically means trailers. I think there was AC but I don’t remember it being especially good. We did have school lunches, though, because there were a lot of lower income kids in our district and I guess no one thought they should have to go hungry all day. We don’t have a cafeteria at the high school - everyone ate outdoors or in the gym when it rained. Sunny California!
@mbaker566: I am envious of your fair pictures! I usually go every year, often more than once. This will be the first time in 18 years I won’t be going - there’s been some really ugly stuff coming out about how festival management has handled sexual harassment/assault among staff over the years - the entertainment director is facing rape charges, several staff have filed a hostile work environment suit, and several others have resigned. I’m going to try and buy some things online to support my favorite vendors, but I just can’t give management money until and unless they address this. Right now it’s all “circle the wagons, show must go on” crap, and it’s truly saddening.
