Good morning all! Happy Monday! I had Trentin with me both Saturday and Sunday (from 7:15am-2:15pm). Saturday he was exhausted from a week of school and issues with his ADD meds. So he pretty much just lay on the couch all day and watched a movie/dozed. I got my house clean during that time and some paperwork done. Sunday her arrived, loud and raring to go. Mom took him off the meds. He was pretty active. Not out of control active; but normal boy active. Tried to get him to focus on some games, etc. that was not working. SO...we headed outside and I put him to work in the yard. Kind of. I gave him my farm wagon and had him picking up sticks. Sticks quickly became nunchucks and ninja swords and he got lost in some imaginary realm in my yard. lol All of the sticks eventually made it to my backyard and into a pile by the firepit. He will be with me today after school until about 7:30. The plan is to have a fire in the firepit and burn all of the collected sticks and some other wood that has been sitting back there for a while. I have marshmallows for him to roast, so here is hoping weather cooperates.
Pip- Love the pics of you and Kirby! Did he design the front of his jersey? Seems like it was made specifically for him/you! Rolling on the floor over your comment to Rebecca! Naughty!
Carol-Ah, the Whopper sandwich. Sorry it disagreed with you! I have already spoken of my unhealthy love for the Whopper. It is still my holy grail of foods...I have about one a year.
Heather- Love that pic of Edie and Bea!
Rebecca- You are tease! Spill the beans!
Rori- Ugh! I definitely feel for you with the hubby misplacing things. Mine doesn't have dementia, but his forgetfulness is a direct result of his RA meds. Frustrating, to say the very least; and like you, I am not always kind and patient when this happens! I do pretty well with keeping my mouth shut, but I am sure my body language speaks volumes. Hugs to you!
Meg- I will be keeping you in my thoughts this week and you figure out what is going on with your dad. Sending warmest of hugs!
Well, kiddos will be arriving soon. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)3 -

Congrats Pip and Kirby! Well done in spite of the rain and wind. Love Kirby's jerseys.
SueinWA: Hope you get that UTI knocked out of your system quickly.
Beth: Congrats on losing during a stressful month! Good to hear your son is getting better.
KareninVA: You are an amazing grandma. DGS will thrive under your care and instruction.
Meg Prayers going up...deep breaths.
Quiet weekend. DH is driving me nuts with daily misplacing items critical to our everyday life. Yesterday it was the cat's leash. Today it was the remote control. Everyday is a treasure hunt living with him. I hate dementia.....and sometimes I don't always behave with compassion.
I haven't done any bonus calorie burning on the recumbent bike in two days, so committing to you all that I'm going to climb on there now.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Rori Maybe get those tile trackers you can attach to everything so you can quickly locate lost items.

Flying out this morning, but posted pics of the weekend progress on the blog... still packing, but don't have to be at the airport for another couple hours.
Heather, such an adorable picture...
Rori, I'm with Heather. I would have long since lost patience. Don't forget, caregivers need love, too. Even a few hours a week with some assistance at home, so you can walk away and relax that eternal vigilance for just a little. You are so strong, but even the strong need a break to breathe and regroup.
Michele, your patience with the vacation SNAFUs was also much longer than mine would have been.
Pip, you're amazing...
Off to the showers... last load's in the wash. I have few clothes, and own barely enough undies to last a week, and got no laundry done this weekend, as we were out at the mountain house working our butts off all weekend. There are worse issues. Trying to figure out how to take my coffeemaker with... I'm such a freaking princess.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR6 -
Carol - Meant to say it went through Thomaston, not Thomasville. Better road than we went up there on; might have been a tad bit longer - I don't know
Started tracking my food again this morning and will keep trying to do so, keeps me more motivated.
I ate a 'fast food' hamburger and fries and coke not long ago and after 3 years of not doing so, I was sick. I craved it; but, hated it.
Lenora1 -
I learned ten years ago that beef does not agree with my digestive system. I tried in vain a few more times and now have a great memory of the pain and suffering so nothing could get me to have a hamburger in any form or setting. Pain is a great teacher.2

Busy day!!! So busy that I didn't even think to eat anything until 1:30 pm.
I was at the university till nearly noon, then walked to Rehab (via a grocery store looking for a particular laundry detergent but didn't find it, and didn't think to get anything to eat). Visited my husband in one of his sessions. Then walked to work, and got right into it there. I looked up about 1:30 wondering why I felt famished ....

Y'all keep a good thought for my daughter, as well as Michele in NC... Hurricane Florence is headed that-a-way, and the husband and kids will be evacuated if it looks like a big hit, but the daughter's brigade is being activated for Hurricane Helene in the Cabo Verde islands, so may be headed a different direction while Florence is aimed at NC. Going to be an interesting week.

Home! Sweet Home! Back to peaceful normal (thanks Lanette) routine. Travelers' trouble and going over CICO put me a pound over last check in, and maybe a little more than last actual lowest. Being unable to keep up with my travel buddy has motivated me to brisk up my pace.
Rye and Margaret wise words. And for me, holding on to some of those things, means holding on to mixed feelings memories. It WAS hard to do but the Virgo moon energy and my travel buddy helped a lot.
Rebecca very Happy Anniversary toooo YYYOOOOOUUUUUU!
Beth thankful for your son's successful surgery. Wisdom tooth, owww!
Lenora glad you're feeling better and off the Nexium, Pepcid and OTCs.
pip Brava on the ride. Thought the same thing about Rebecca's secret good news
Meg prayers and hugs. How far away is your dad?
Heather the Edie and Bea cheesecake is sweet!
Rori ((hugs)) Ditto Heather and Lisa's wise and loving words. Hope you have some respite options, even inspiring angels need self care.
KJ Ninja swords and nunchucks into toasted marshmallows, I just love hearing how you channel that boy energy!
Lisa you are the LEAST princess like of gals. You just know what you need to function at tip top!
Non-dementia related misplacing things. I am so OCD? that if something is not in "its place" I cannot see it. 'bout drove my travel buddy nuts by losing my room key, I didn't have a "place" for it so it just disappeared. Sometimes Joe gets a helpful hair and puts "dishes" away after drying on the rack. So while I came home to a lovely clean kitchen, I had to ask where the small knife with sharpening sheath was. He directed me to the drawer next to the stove where I also found the slotted spoon and measuring cups. Managed to smile and say thank you, meaning it for the love behind the desire to be helpful, but as I write this I'm SMH and [sigh]ing ;}

Hi Everyone!
This is my day 1...Not sure what I'm doing.
I'm an empty nester trying to reinvent myself...starting with my appearance. I saw a picture of myself this weekend (full body) and was pushed to tears.
I'm over 50 so thought I would try to connect with people in this thread. Is anyone looking to lose over 100 pounds?
I have no idea how to approach this counting calories, protein, etc.
Any pointers?
Thanks!

barbara home sweet home is the best feeling! As for my DH helping out, he will put away plates and cups but for some weird reason he puts pots, pans and large utensils on the kitchen island instead of the rightful (and obvious) cupboard —-also empties trash but wont put new liner in the trashbin love the help but come on!!
Keeping an eye on approaching storm—heed the emergency evacuation warnings and stay safe all you southern coast ladies

Allie--Sure doesn't seem like it should be a year since we lost Gloria. I miss her.
I understand about DH's not remembering where they put stuff. My issue with my DH is he can not hear and we have been trying to find a doctor that takes our insurance. Sounds like we may have to go to Omaha or Lincoln. I just want to know that if we put out the money he will wear them.
I have decided to give up soda pop. I was drinking way to much. Second day and having the headache and tired. So just pushing to get till 3:30 then go home and take a nap.

Had a great time camping on the Olympic Peninsula - we looked at some properties and now that we are home and looking at pictures, all I can see is how much weight I've gained back of the 70 pounds I lost 3 years ago (about 30 pounds of it). At least it is motivation to turn in around. We made an offer on a property that is a real fixer upper, so if we get it, I want to see before and after pictures for me as well as the property!
My goal is to be under 200 on 10/1 and my steps to get there are to journal, meal plan, get 10K steps 6/7 days a week.
I hope everyone is having a good Fall and back to school season.7 -
Husbands and Memory: My husband does not have dementia but it has gotten that whenever he is leaving I ask, "Do you have your keys, wallet, directions/list, phone, etc." This is because he has had to come back up the basement steps so many times when he has forgotten something. Also, when he is driving somewhere he often just drives without thinking where he is going. I will have to remind him that we need to go the opposite way.

Barbie - The only meat I have not tried since my LINX procedure to correct the uncontrolled 'acid reflux' for 12-15 years. Since I can only eat 'dime-sized' bites. Since my essential treatments affect the right side more than the left; I find it easier to eat left-handed for the most part.
Barbara - I am 'amazed' at how much better I feel since I am 'off' Nexium and the 'horse-sized pills' that I was taking in the way of vitamins and supplements.
But I am a tad bit 'stoked' that my 'driving days' seem to be over. I've got a MD appointment in the morning and my not driving is going to mean that Louis or Trey have to take me into Albany and then drive me back home to Dawson and depending on time - either drive back to Albany to work or just miss out altogether. At least Trey is not working on an hourly basis. We're hoping that he will enroll in the technical school and get his CDL; because 'truck drivers' are in a 'demand' right now. When my oldest sister was waiting on her blinds to come in, they called about it and they had been in the warehouse; but, the delay was because of trucking shortage. I cannot imagine him driving 'long-haul'; but, at least maybe then Louis can do 'little jobs' for his regular customers. I've love to find a way that we could have enough money set aside to be an emergency fund and after we cut some of the timber on our land; be able to not continue working so hard.

Thanks Barbie for being an inspiration!
My goals for September:
Walk everyday.
Log food and water daily.
Cut sugar from my diet.
Declutter at least 15 minutes per day.
Meditate 3 minutes per day.
I hope everyone has a great September!

Yes my middle son and his wife are expecting! She is only 5 weeks along, so no mention on Facebook etc until the first trimester is done. Please all of you that I have as friends on Facebook, please no congrats on my page. I have to respect her wishes👍💗. We received a box with two mugs that read
"Only the best moms get to be grandmas!
Only the best dad's get promoted to grandpa!
It was a great timing thing, because I was kind of bummed not seeing my youngest before he is to be flying to Japan. That news healed my heart ❤

Welcome. When I started here I started logging my food in the food diary so I could see what I was eating. That helped me make decisions about what I could continue eating and what I should change. I couldn't change everything at once so I took baby steps. Also keep coming back to this thread, join the conversation, and ask your questions.

Welcome Elizabeth!
I would echo Barbie. Use the food diary to keep track of everything that passes your lips.....food, drinks, supplements, everything. If you find it easier, track what you are eating now and then find where you can cut back. You don't have to drop your calories immediately if you find that too daunting. You can drop them a 100 calories a week until you hit your recommended calorie limit. I am the kind of person that jumps in with both feet so I cut to my recommended calories immediately and forged on to my goal. I lost about 90 lbs and have been working to keep it off since hitting my goal in March.
You'll find us a chatty group. Don't try to keep us all straight. It will come in time as you continue to visit with us.

Okie and Barbie wise words! Elizabeth starting this journey is the first step. Use this month to being accountable to logging. Habits don't change overnight, so logging and paying attention to trigger times, trigger people, and trigger foods is eye opening. I have a hard time putting away a great meal if there is leftovers. I could eat a portion getting it from the pan to the plastic container!! So I make husband do that!
Be good to yourself. I try to make choices easier by having the foods I like, away from son and husband's snack drawer! I have made healthy soups. Easy! Go to the recipe tab, label your creation, say how many servings you think you'll make, and add ingredient one by one. Then just have that for a lunch. My soups are a bit of meat protein like a cubed ham slice, or beef kielbasa sausage. Then I add beans, chicken stock paste, maybe some cabbage shredded, and simmer! Better than any soup you'll see in the store, and less crap. I do like spicy, so I always add a tsp of turmeric, and cayenne pepper!
