Today's run was longer than my usual lately, but felt good.
I might've signed up for a second race this weekend. In the middle of the night, on a weekend when we're hosting half of a 10-person music group at our house and have multiple concerts planned. The new addition is technically more of a group fun run with lights, reflective gear and costumes, taking advantage of the time change to get everyone a "PB".
Oh there's my goal for the month! I'm really running again!!!
Upcoming races:
October 27: Botanical 5k
October 28: Fastest 10k of Your Life (2am start)
November 11: City Trail Independence Day 5k
December 8: City Trail 5k
January 12: City Trail 5k
February 2-3: Lublin night 10k
February 16: City Trail 5k
March 23: City Trail 5k
April 7: Lublin 10k (maybe)
May 12: Lublin Marathon11 -
@MegaMooseEsq - hugs. So sorry. You know you did the right thing but it's just so damn hard! I can easily cry when I think of the dogs I've had to put down - one cancer and the other liver disease.
@MobyCarp - love that wine glass!
@7lenny7 - sorry about the no running and driving, but I love your attitude of "going to do things I can't normally get done!"

I did not end up going for a run last night afterall. That makes it no running since Sun. I'm going to see how my HR behaves today during the day and then decide whether to run tonight or not. The HR of 30 several times yesterday concerned me, but I was asymptomatic.8

@LaDispute57 Your picture from the Sinnemahone Ultra up the pipeline looks very close to one from a local waterpipeline in fact at first I though it was from my area, Still well done on a tough course.
@polskagirl01 Thanks for doing the Strava data for Dennis
The last time I looked we were over 20 hrs and still climbing.
@MegaMooseEsq Great Race report and nice bling! especially with a bakery at the start finish - they probably had a very good day.
9 km Pats Creek and Bush Trails.
Original plan was for a double loop so I could take alternate trails through the bush. Got held up at work so I got a late start and forgot to bring a headlamp. One loop of fun in the trees.
Had a bad week as this is my first run since last Wednesday. On Friday I tweaked my back doing the highly athletic move of getting out of my truck, I stepped on a rock and it rolled out from under my foot when I was in the half out twisted position and jolted me. Should have sprained an ankle - no tweaked the back. So it felt good to run yesterday with no discomfort. Will have to get some KM's in to meet monthly goal. Night running in full swing now.

Gorgeous day for a run - 35 degrees F and little wind.
Training plan was for 7k at easy pace today; but every time I recalculate paces based on race results, the training paces keep getting faster. The last 2k seemed to be a little tough. Up to 124.5k for the month; challenge met.
I'm almost afraid to ask this, but does anybody else get songs stuck in their heads while running?6 -
I didn't run this morning because I lost my ear bud adapter. I don't know why my iphone 8 doesn't have a regular earbud hole. I don't like the apple employee who thought up that design. I know that's pretty lame, I could have run without music, but I think I'm just going to buy a new one and hopefully run tonight after work if my husband gets home early enough.7

Rest day for me, with short walk for the dogs this morning. I really need to foam roll and stretch more. My IT band, knee and hamstring didn't feel so good near the end of that walk, almost like my knee was ... I don't know. Unstable? I've had IT band issues in the past.
I had biometric testing for insurance today, so had to fast and of course woke up starving at 3:30. Luckily I got one of the earlier appointment times so was able to eat (and drink coffee) by 7:30. Was really hoping I'd have better results from that test. Maybe next year...5 -

Took a rest day after my 12 miler on Tuesday. It felt hard after running intervals on Monday. I guess running on tired legs is good training. Still, knowing I had my 17 mile long run scheduled for today I decided to skip Wednesday’s run.
I headed out this morning feeling pretty good. It was 50 degrees and sunny with a bit of a breeze. I also pulled out a new pair of sneakers as my last pair had over 400 miles on them. This run felt great. 17 miles, average pace just under 9:30/mi. I’m pretty happy- even better is I feel good afterwards and not ragged like after my last few long runs!
I really tried to heed the advice of running tall, hands swinging up higher (like I see the elites do) and keeping my shoulders back. I think it really helped!

Hey all.
@eleanorhawkins Well I finally got wet. And I don't mean a gentle tickle of rain at the beginning or end of my run, I mean the concrete was dry when I started, by 0.5k I was soaked through, by 3k there were ankle deep puddles, and I would know because I think i found them all. And of course it stopped raining as soon as I finished. It was glorious!
Today was a 5k fast run before my long run tomorrow. I discovered my high vis vest weighs a tonn when it gets wet. I was struggling at 4k. Managed to drop it on my drive st 4.5 and finished strong. I loved it! The visor worked great to keep most of the rain off my face.
3 weeks tomorrow till the day. I'm getting so excited!
WWYD: race is a one way course. The race starts at 7:30am. There is parking at the finish line, and busses to the start. Runners have to catch the bus no later than 6:20. It's about 1.5hr drive for me from home so will have to get up about 430am to leave by 4:50 so I have plenty of time to park, find bus etc (I'll have the bib in the next week or so).
Option 2: Park at the start line, so don't have to go till about 6:00am at latest. The organiser strongly discourages this as there is limited parking, but since I'm up at 5am to eat anyway it seems like a good choice. I'll get there nice and early to get a park. And Hubby is coming to meet me at the finish line, so he will have post race essentials and can take me back to the car when we are ready to leave.
Option 3: my boss lives over there, and he will be doing the run too. He's offered that I can stay at his place. (this is not weird, it's a really small rural community, I'm friends with both him and his wife, we are strava friends etc). But I don't know where I'll be sleeping. If I stay home, it's in my own bet etc. I need to get up early anyway to eat breakfast before the race.
Would you stay home and park at the start line? Take the bus? Or stay st boss' home?3 -
@avidkeo How about have your husband drop you off at the start and then meet you at the finish?6
-
PastorVincent wrote: »@avidkeo How about have your husband drop you off at the start and then meet you at the finish?
Would be good except that leaves him with a 4yr old and a 2yr old to entertain for 2hrs. In a place where there aren't a lot of kid stuff Who aren't even usually up at that time of day. He's planning on bringing them over in time for me to cross the finish (he better be there in time!)0 -
almost done with the car stuff
but got a funk. it's a sturdy funk.
Keeping all body parts (hands, arms, legs, long hair, etc.) inside ride at all times.
@7lenny7 good luck
Feeling much the same. Haven't run all week but still planning to do my 11 miles this weekend. Half is 17 days away.4 -

Good luck! Looking forward to reading your race recap!!

@polskagirl01 - sounds like you are going to have a very fun busy evening/weekend!
@mbaker566 - hope you break out of that sturdy funk soon! I am missing the puppy before/after run pictures!
@hesn92 - the answer to that problem is get new ear buds - preferably wireless then there is no adapter issue!
@Avidkeo - Rain Run!! YAY! If that is not an option four your husband to drop you off than I would go with option 2 and sleep in your own bed.
@RunsOnEspresso - take it day by day and soon you will get there!5 -
-
@Avidkeo AWESOME! Now I know why you ran so fast LOL.
I would go for option 3..... I mean the chances are you're not going to sleep much wherever you are, so I would go for convenience on the day personally. I've booked a hotel for the night before mine, and that's just an 8.30am start an hour's drive from home at the most. (Yeah, I'm a wimp AND I need lots of time and coffee to become human in the mornings).5 -
@7lenny7 Trust a runner to get an injury that no else seems to get or have heard of. Glad surgery is quick as that means less time for the tendons to shrink. Like you said just change your plans and do other things.
@LaDispute57 Tough Course but remember DNF = Did Not Fatal
@zeesparrow Yes stick with the plan and build slowly. Having a tough first mile/km is quite common. Seems like your body/mind are fighting then all of a sudden it gets smooth and you aren't really sure when it happened.
@MegaMooseEsq Sorry for losing Bowie. Pets become a real part of your family and losing them hurts5 -

I had a lovely 3.5 mile run at lunch today. I took yesterday as a rest day because it was cold and rainy all day long, but today was perfect. It was so nice to run in the sunlight for a change. Between running in the mornings before the sun comes up and all the clouds we have had lately I guess I'm getting a little weary of running in the dark. I don't mind it so much in the summer because it is so much better than running when it is 100F. But it is so dark lately in the mornings. I guess that will change after we switch back from daylight savings time to standard time. I tried to take it easy on this run and it felt really good. I sort of wished I had worn a jacket, but by the halfway point I was really glad I didn't and I was kind of wishing I had worn shorts instead of capris. But it still wasn't ever too hot or too cold.
@Avidkeo If there is no way to get your husband to drop you off at the start, then I would probably go with option 2. They discourage people from parking near the start, but if they don't forbid it then I'm sure if you get there early enough it won't be a problem. I would rather sleep in my own bed if possible.

good news is i'll do at least 3 miles on sunday.
hot cider hustle 5k. cider, fleece, caramel apples.
maybe if the dogs destroy something i'll find the urge to get my shuffle on .
@Avidkeo i would drive out there myself the morning off. i've left earlier than that to get to a race. i want my own bed. my own dogs.
@RespectTheKitty good luck on the run. i like longer runs more than short runs. makes the getting ready worth it

@avidkeo I would go for option 2 (drive to start), but (this is just me) I would be anxious that there wouldn't be enough parking. To alleviate that fear, I would probably wake up mega early and get there before most people. So that would defeat the advantage of sleeping at home. The night before a race I am a complete mess, so don't take any advice from me
@zdyb23456 wow 17 miles! Great job!4 -
