That’s what I did actually lol! Walmart DOES NOT SELL ear bud adapters, and they don’t sell ear buds that will plug into my phone at all! This is very upsetting to me. Now I’m really annoyed with apple. I got wireless earbuds. They seem a little too high tech for me but I guess they will do.
The headphone jack is a major thorn in the side for many iPhone owners. I have been using wireless for years so did not affect me, but you can order the adapter on Amazon, or from Apple Directly. It is overpriced of course. All things Apple are.
My Pixel came with a headphone adapter. No extra charge. Just sayin'.
The iPhone did too, but she lost it.0 -

To be fair my original comment where I talked about losing it wasn't part of this quote string lol1 -
I used one of @_nikkiwolf_ 's suggestions, and tried it out on @Orphia 's run for Dennis and uploaded it back to Strava. Haven't deleted the original or started on the rest of the list yet, as I'm weighing the pros and cons. It removes the "ran with" tags, but I guess if the tag is important to someone, you could tag yourself on the new run. I don't think we want to leave both runs there, as it will confuse things when someone goes to do the visualizations and give us double stats. I do think having everything in a standard time zone will give us the best results, though. So don't be alarmed if things look messy on the Strava account for now, I'll get things converted over and then clean things up
@Orphia could you send me the updated list? I tried to follow along and think I have most of it, but it would be better to use the official list.5 -

Nominal October mileage goal: 150 miles
Real Goals: Recover well from Wineglass. Avoid reinjury. Build volume only to the extent consistent with recovery and injury avoidance.
Yesterday's Today's notes – Went to club practice yesterday evening. It was great running weather at about 41º F (5º C), but not so great standing around to talk weather. Ran the 2 mile warmup. Checked the board. The workout called for 2 x 15 or 20 minutes at T pace with 2 minutes recovery, the 4 x 100m strides. That looked daunting.
Coach asked how I was. Told him I was pretty beat up after Tuesday's workout, and he told me to just go run some easy miles. So I set out with the idea of running a couple easy miles, then seeing if I felt up to a reduced amount of tempo run. Ran the first 1.7 miles with another guy doing his warmup; he took a break for water, and I decided that easy miles were the order of the day. Thought maybe 6 miles; and had to stop for the restroom right around 4. Got back out to run the other 2 miles, nominally as a cool down; but in reality it was all easy running.
Had a chat with Coach about how often we race; he recommends no more often than every other race at my age. Oops. I've raced 5 weekends in a row. The upcoming weekend is off from racing, then it's 3 more in a row plus a Thanksgiving Day race 4 days later. But as Coach pointed out, I don't necessarily have to run everything hard. I want to run the Pete Glavin XC races hard as my team tries to win the series; but I don't need to run the Syracuse Half particularly hard, and I don't need to run Race with Grace 10K particularly hard.
Joke of the day: On one of my FB groups, a guy posted a link to an online challenge for running 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 or 200 miles. Pay $23, get motivation to run, get a medal. Aside from the medal, I can get the motivation right here for the low, low price of FREE. And I don't need a medal for training runs.

The idea of Dennis showing up as a runner in more than one place at the same time reminds me of this book:
https://www.amazon.com/Time-Travelers-Wife-Audrey-Niffenegger/dp/193156146X/ref=pd_ybh_a_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=A8QEZJWPW7K8XDAJR49Y
The time traveler in the story is a runner.4 -
I'm in a quandary because cash flow is a little low right now due to having spent $2500 we hadn't budgeted for on the car this past 3 months or so. And I have 2 races I want to sign up for (5K) that have heftier registration fees but this year's model of my preferred shoe is on sale. I think.5

October goal: 95 miles
10/2: 5.5 miles
10/3: 5 miles
10/4: 5 miles
10/6: 3.1miles Old Rip 5K - PR and 2nd place AG
10/8: 5.2 miles
10/10: 5 miles
10/11: 5.2 miles
10/14: 9 miles
10/15: 3.5 miles
10/17: 5 miles
10/18: 4.1 miles
10/21: 11 miles
10/23: 4.5 miles
10/25: 3.5 miles
10/26: 4.2 miles
78.5/95 miles completed
I had a pretty good 4.2 mile run this morning. It was dark and chilly, but I felt really good and I'm glad I ran before work since I am planning to go vote at lunch and I need to stop by the grocery store after work. I would probably have enjoyed it a little more if I could have gone around 7:30 or 8 so I could have run in the sunshine, but it wasn't cloudy and there was a nice moon and still some stars so it didn't seem quite as dark as it has lately. It was ~48F during my run and I wore my jacket and gloves the whole time. I thought about taking my jacket off during the last mile, but I think I would have felt too chilly and I wasn't really too hot. When I got home I realized I should have just unzipped my jacket. I'm thinking that if it is colder than 50f during my 5k next month I will probably wear the jacket, but if it is above 50f I won't.
I probably won't make my goal this month. I ran 11 miles on Sunday and after that I was just feeling a little tired and worn out. I realized that during my HM training last spring I was having cutback weeks, but since then I've just been running. So this week I felt like I needed to cut back a little. My feet have also been feeling kind of tired and achy (although they feel fine when I am running). I can't decide if it is my shoes (I hope not since this pair is relatively new and I can't afford new shoes right now). But I felt like I should just take it easy on my runs this week so that is what I have been doing. They have all been good runs so I think taking it easy and just enjoying the run has been the way to go.
2018 races:
5/19/18: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon - 2:43:59.7. - 2nd place AG
10/6/18: Old Rip 5K Run - PR 29:43.5, 2nd place AG
11/10/18: Wags & Whiskers 5K5 -
7k today. Training plan called for two sets of 5 minutes hard, followed by 1 minute easy. Actually did 4 sets, and then finished off the 7k with what amounted to a recovery run. Good thing, because my legs felt really tired after 4.5k. May have to rethink my 6 day running, 1 day off training plan. Adding 7k to the 45k I was already running is about a 15 percent increase in distance. That may be just a little too much. Now at 131.5k for October.6

@hesn92 - I got Belkin adapter I think, at Target. I got it for those occasions when I don't have my wireless headphones with me (traveling for work) or they are not charged for some reason.
@pastorvincent - the big move by Apple is to get away from having/needing any 'connectors' at all - everything will be done wirelessly which honestly from a tech perspective is the direction the industry is heading. Last year one of the biggest things talked about in my industry was the 'office of the future' that had no wires at all. I have yet to see it fully implemented but that was the intent.
@sarahthes - I love that you slept in your running clothes (not that you didn't feel well though)! On your dilemma - I would get the running shoes and sign up for just one race if you can... otherwise just the shoes - there will be more races down the line but you can't run them (or train) without shoes...
Not being able to run gives me lots of time to shop too... so far I have been pretty good and only bought a couple of running tops on sale! I did have to clean out the drawer with my running tops though to make room! I have been looking at shoes though but so far just promising them to myself once I can run again!
In non-running news I got a message from a friend last night that Hobbes the Vizsla is in the top 10 of Vizslas in the US in Agility! I was pretty sure it was the top 10 for sleeping but I saw the list - wow!! guess all those classes have paid off! He really can jump and hopefully we will be back at it soon!17 -
Oct 24 - 1.82 mi
Oct 25 - lower body strength
Oct 26 - 2.49 mi hills 550 ft - Grand Canyon Staircase on treadmill and upper body strength

I believe I am finally going to make goal this month. Hooray! Feeling over this long cold, though yesterday, my keyboard cord got caught on my foot, and I managed to pull everything off my tray. When I bent down to pick it up, fluid poured out of my nose. It felt exactly like a nosebleed, and I quickly grabbed a Kleenex expecting to see blood, but it was completely clear. It was so fast, it even dripped on the floor. It happened three or four times while I was picking everything up. Post-nasal drip? So weird. Anyone have this before? I had a doctor's appt again on Monday; fingers crossed I didn't pick up a new bug. I seem to be susceptible to everything at the moment.
@katharmonic Best of luck with your marathon this weekend! You're so ready and it's going to be amazing!
@sarahthes Oh, I hate choices like that. I'd put shoes before races, but if the races keep you going, then they might be more important.
@kgirlhart I love that you are running easy because it feels right. I have done that a bit lately, and I also enjoyed not paying any attention to my pace/heart rate, etc. Hope your feet are okay.
@7lenny7 So sorry about your toe and having to be off running and driving for so long. Wishing you a speedier than anticipated recovery.
And good luck to everyone else who is racing this weekend. I remember reading at least one other is, but I'm sorry I have forgotten and can't seem to spot it quickly looking back in the thread.4 -
@shanaber Aw, Hobbes is the best. So glad he's doing better.0

Morning all. Thanks for the replies, so I'm up by 6am on a Saturday, just had breakfast and am now waiting 2hrs for my virtual run to start lol. Actually doing the 20k training run a week early has the advantage of not psyching myself up. It just oh ok, 20k today cool. Where at next week I was starting to really anticipate it. I feel good!6
-
Haven’t been able to run at all since Monday because midterms ended up kicking my *kitten*! May or may not get out there for a couple of miles after work as I’m too scared to run after the sun sets, but we’ll see. If not, I’m planning on doing week 13 day 1 of c210k tomorrow! I most likely won’t be hitting my goal, so I think I’m gonna go for 50/60 miles for the month.7

The dogs and I did a very rainy W4D3 this morning. Faster pace than ever and it felt great. They didn't seem to enjoy the rain much, and made me laugh a few times as they avoided puddles and looked at me pathetically. By the end, I was splashing through the puddles since my feet were already soaked. It was magnificent!6

Love it! And I definitely noticed a difference with some gently loosening exercises.
It will be interesting to see what the experts say. I can imagine @PastorVincent, Mr do what I say not as I do. Cause he'd do the 20k both weekends
Can't wait to see what @PastorVincent has to say, but yes he'd probably do the 20k both DAYS both weekends in a string vest in freezing temperatures barefoot and chase them up with icecream but tell you to do it now then taper :-D
Do I want to know what a string vest is? Probably not!
Y'all are nuts.

Rest day today, HM tomorrow. On the drive up today I stopped at the scenic overlook at mile marker 45 on I-26 in TN, pics below. Altitude is about half mile up at the outlook. First picture is from the bottom then the base of the trail, then from the overlook.
Good luck tomorrow @katharmonic with your race! As a former Navy corpsman running that marathon is a goal of mine.8 -
@shanaber that is so awesome about Hobbes. He is #1 in our book!
@katharmonic wishing you the very best on your marathon! I am running vicariously through you on your first marathon. Good luck!

@workaholic_nurse Good luck with your race tomorrow!
Had to keep my run very local in case I got a call from work and needed to get there quicky, so I couldn't enjoy the long run I normally do on Fridays. However, it was a very pleasant morning in the low 50s, and very dry for once, and now I get to put my feet up and contemplate whether I should do a short run tomorrow or not.

@shanaber Top 10 agility, wow! Somehow that makes me think of a cross country race I ran where there were 3 sets of course markings: Those for my race, markings for a high school XC race, and markings for a dog agility contest that would be held after my race.
Part of the pre-race sound track from the organizers was, "Don't follow the yellow arrows, unless you are a dog."3 -
Now at 131.5k for October.
An under-appreciated aspect of a training plan is, it tells you when to stop working hard. If you're feeling really tired or a bit beat up, part of it is that you did twice as much speed work as the plan calls for. Assuming you followed the plan reasonably accurately before today, you should have been prepared to run 2 x 5 minutes hard. There is no guarantee you would be prepared to run 4 x 5 minutes hard at this point.
That's not to say that the 15 percent increase in distance isn't also too much; but when your body is telling you not to do so much, the first place to back off is where you've been doing the training plan plus something.
Edit to add: The purpose of speed work is not to demonstrate how fit you are, it it to improve your fitness for race day.7
