I'm serious about sharing the monthly love here and dangling the coveted MFP running challenge thread starter offer. Todays a good day to get it going- I'll think of a monthly question.
Ask and he shall do his best to not balls things up.

Today's run was a recovery run, yet for some reason, my legs felt very heavy and I just wasn't getting into the run at all. Part of it could've been due to the temps, which had risen again to the low 70s, but I think overall it was just one of those days...not the first time, and certainly won't be the last either. Tomorrow brings another day...perhaps a chance for another recovery run to get over this recovery run.

@PastorVincent you are the worse enabler here - superglue. Though @AprilRN10 you could steal some wound glue from work.... Just saying lol.
I was stiff and sore yesterday, I assume left over tightness from the 20k on the weekend, followed by 10k yesterday. I didn't get a lot of sleep last night as miss 2 kept waking up and wanting to play during the night. I was very tempted to skip this morning, but I skipped Monday (wed here) so had to go out. I was set for 11k but barely managed 5. I kept getting sciatic pain down my left leg, my hips were aching like crazy. I just didn't enjoy it. So I limped home (both literally and figuratively) and got the roller out. I love and hate that thing. Concentrated on my It band and piriformis - that hurt. Now I can walk without a limp!
Tomorrow is a rest day. Im going to do some yoga for the next few days to really try loosen up.
But hey, I went out... That counts right?
I only suggested that because @AprilRN10 is a nurse. Besides, the original intention for super glue WAS to close wounds. That is why it sticks to skin so well. I do not know how sanitary it is, but it does stick real good.
I know a scary number of people at the climbing gym who use super glue to glue back skin that comes off.
I'm not tough enough for that! I do use a bandage spray to cover up open wounds, but despite what they promise, if you go back and keep climbing, it will wear off (and the wounds will still hurt). It is however quite nice to protect scrapes and abrasions for the rest of the day, or to seal your trail running cuts before jumping in the pool, etc.5 -
@7lenny7 I'm really sorry you have to put up with that peg leg. I hope your recovery goes well!

I'm excited about getting this, actually. So much better than crutches or a scooter I think. It's hands free and I can go up and down stairs with it. It also let's me use my right quad and hamstring.
After I get more comfortable with it I hope to start going on walks.

4.7 miles tonight. Pace was decent until I had a nosebleed and walked most of the rest of the way home holding my nose.

@eleanorhawkins Way to badass it in the rain! Yes, get good socks; I have never got blisters while wearing good wool running socks, with as much as 26.2 miles run in the rain.
@ContraryMaryMary That 2 halfs in a year thing is for wimps. Marathon runners run 2 halfs in a day. The second half is a lot harder than the first. Ultra runners are even more crazy.
@7lenny7 Kody doesn't look very impressed with your peg leg. Maybe a parrot will impress him more.8 -

Heck, I ran a half today just cause it was sunny and in the 50s.

Today's notes – I started coming down with a cold late Saturday evening. Sunday was a day of absolutely no energy, and certainly no running. Monday was a day of eternal nasal drip. I could have run, but was concerned about the drip running down my throat and making the cold lodge in my lungs. And that was even while on decongestant medicine.
Today I'm not totally over the cold, but it feels more like I'm improving. Went to club practice today. It was 52º F (11º C) with wind not a factor and dew point 28º F. Great running weather, but I dressed just a little on the warm side because of the cold. Did my 2 mile warmup, and took off the running jacket to do the workout in shorts and a long sleeve tech shirt.
The assignment was 10 mintues at T pace, then 2 sets of (600, 400, 400, 200) at R pace with 200 or 400 recovery. Set out for an easy 400 before the T interval; missed starting the watch until perhaps 100 meters in. Oh, well. Held T pace really well for 10 minutes; target was 49 seconds per 200 meters, but it was coming in pretty consistently at 48 seconds. Took a bit more than a minute (the rest of the lap) recovery, then set out for the first 600 at R.
Well. Before I got to 400, I could tell that R pace and my residual cold were not in agreement. I was likely to aggravate my respiratory system issues pushing to 600 at R, so I backed off at 400, took 400 recovery, and felt pretty good. So I ran 3 x 200 at R after that, with 200 recovery, and called that good for the workout proper. Target for R would be 42-43 seconds for a 200, 85-86 seconds for a 400; the 400 came in at 86.2 seconds, the 200s at 42.9, 42.6, 42.7. I may not have been totally healthy today, but I was competent within my limits.
Then I put my jacket back on and went out for a 2 mile cool down. I'm developing a theory of listening to my body; if I do a speed workout and I'm so wiped out that I don't want to run a 2 mile cool down, I've probably worked too hard. There are no medals for training runs.
After 2 days of no running and mostly being sedentary, it felt really good to get out and run. I'll take that, even though I wasn't up to doing the full workout as written.

You guys are funny and yes. Enablers for sure. No super glue for this. I wouldn't use super glue anyway, I would use wound glue. However, I don't have access to any. My place of employment does not actually have it. This wound needs to remain open to air and to stay dry until healed.4

@ContraryMaryMary That 2 halfs in a year thing is for wimps. Marathon runners run 2 halfs in a day. The second half is a lot harder than the first. Ultra runners are even more crazy.
Now that you put it like that, @MobyCarp, I realise my error. Ooh, I should sign up for more!!!
As for @PastorVincent, we know you are definitely crazy.3 -

I do not think they offer Goofix here in USA0 -
Today, I walked/ran my first 5km race! It was the zombies run Halloween virtual 5km/10km race! I did it in 51:50, which is good for a first race. I wanted to run more of it, but I kept getting cramps. Will start c210k tomorrow. Won't hit my goal this month, but I'll be close.

And that's it for me for October.
Some mild ankle pain today but nothing scary. Like a 1/10. I think my K-tape was too tight so I'm not worried about it. Went to running group tonight and there were only 2 of us with completely opposite abilities and distances so we ran off in opposite directions.
I decided to run down Grande Blvd again and take in the Halloween decorations. Everything looked amazing. There were so many people! It kinda felt like I was dodging racers at a Halloween race except nobody was in costume.

Yay! Congratulations! Our park has a haunted trail this year. Id love to do a haunted run . We did one Monster run few years ago in Ft Worth tx. It wasnt spooky though.
I found magnesium to help quite a bit with the cramps and twitches. It'll also help you sleep, which is great with sore and tired muscles.4 -
I don't remember which one of you linked me the bra, but it came today. I can't wait to try it out!
I'm treating the wound appropriately, and I'm using desitin on the chafing which is working superbly!
I have decided I need new bras and that I need to look for seamless ones. They also need to be VERY supportive, so recommendations would be great.
I am also going to get some new running tops because I need ones that will not retain my sweat like the ones I was wearing. What are some of your favorite running tops ladies?
As for my running, I am bummed that I am not going to get in the additional mileage that I was scheduled for for the month. However, I had already surpassed my goal so it's really no big deal. I've been getting lots of reading in!

My daughter pulled her neck scratching her back (yeah, ikr) while getting ready for school, so had to delay run and take her to get it looked at. Managed to still get out, I guess it's good to get out of that habit of always doing stuff at exactly the same time and in exactly the same way etc. Made it harder than usual considering it was just 5k today. Just 5k.... I remember when my 'long runs' were 5k!

Hey everyone! It has been a few weeks since I’ve checked in, and I am 900 posts behind, so I’m not even going to try to go back and read them all.
Since my last post, one of our bassets developed a herniated disc and all of a sudden couldn’t walk. It took over a week for the vet to figure out the right dose of steroids and pain meds so that we could start to see some improvement with muscle movement in her back legs. My husband was traveling for work, and it was touch and go as to whether she would make any improvement, so I didn’t run or do much of anything else during that time.
Then, last week I was driving home from the vet and was in an accident. An improperly hitched trailer being towed by a truck came unhitched and crossed interstate lanes to smash into my car. My car was totaled, and I’ve had a lot of soreness as a result. Again, no running.
Due to the accident, I missed the 10K I was supposed to run last Saturday.
I’m hoping November goes a little more smoothly so I can get back into a routine.23 -
ACK! What a rough time you have had @marisap2010 ! Glad you are mostly alright after that trailer strike!0
-
So sorry to hear about your car accident @marisap2010! So scary and glad you weren't hurt worse. Hope your dog is doing better as well. Take it easy!
@7lenny7 I've never seen that type of peg leg contraption for mobility. Hope it works out well for you.

I'm calling it a month here with no running planned today (or the rest of this week). I didn't officially set a mileage goal for this month but had calculated about 140 in my spreadsheet based on my training plan, so I was close to that in the end.
My legs are starting to feel better. Currently my 35-pound leg warmer with fur is helpfully applying some nice weighted heat to my quads.
I need to start looking for a new pair of shoes that don't give me gigantic blood blisters. I haven't been happy with the last 3 pairs I've bought (3 different brands) so I'm kind of clueless about where to go from here. Fortunately I got a nice gift certificate to Fleet Feet from some friends for my upcoming birthday to apply to the effort.
Have a great Halloween everyone and see you in the November thread.

@marisap2010 sorry to hear about the accident, and hope you and your pup both are feeling better soon!0

@marisap2010 Wow, sorry to hear about that but glad you're ok!
One more run from me to close out the month. Congrats to all runners that took part in the October challenge, and I'll see you all in the November thread!

Not as awesome as Monday, but it was an OK run. 0:15/sec mile faster. Maybe that's why. Ended up with only 62 miles for October, but going through rehab the whole month, I guess that is understandable and forgivable.
Looking forward to a healthy November!7 -
@eleanorhawkins; We have snow in the forecast - which at this time of year can be anything from big fluffy flakes gently floating down or a blizzard with a 20-50km/hr wind and Horizontal Snow.
Home made Canadian Halloween costumes are designed with expandable sides to fit over a snow suit/parka.
These Last Person Standing Events how do they ever manage to keep volunteers around for that long.
From setup to teardown our Triathlon was 7hrs, after 6 hrs I was done.
@RunsOnEspresso Nice Cross training, now picture yourself running through the area, just saying - enabling??
@katharmonic: Now That's a big blister.
@7lenny7 Halloween Ready with your new peg leg - @MobyCarp beat meet to the parrot comment - The poor hound he doesn't look happy - missing his outdoor adventures.
@marisap2010 ! Wow you are lucky to have so few injuries after a run away trailer. That's why I feel people should be required to take a test for Trailers and large RV's with a T or RvA added to drivers license code. My co-workers respond to at least 1 Lost Trailer accident per month. Usually people have the wrong size hitch on there vehicle, no safety chains or a bad hitch pin so they stick a cheap bolt in - which shears off.4 -

Easy 7k went as planned today. Was nice to run in shorts and a short sleeved shirt again, even though it was a little windy and rainy, but not rainy enough to qualify for "bad-*kitten*" status. 163k for the month.
@bubblegum2fitness Congratulations!!!!
@marisap2010 Happy you made it through relatively unscathed!
Looking forward to November.5 -

I would run the downhills amd flat sections but DH does not run. We do a pretty fast clip though. We tend to pass a lot of people. Lol0 -
Woke up to rain and debated delaying my run until tomorrow, when the forecast calls for cloudy skies. The pups don't like going out in the backyard when it's raining but looked dejected enough that we headed out at 5:30am. All 3 of us were totally soaked by the time we came back, and I'm pretty sure Jackson was not impressed... but C25K W5D2 is done!
If I count the walking warmups/cooldowns and intervals, I have 29.8 miles for October. I'm sure it's considerably less actual running.
Friday's forecast shows more rain again. Yay?10
