@alphahowls I say it every month. Wow, unbelievable, inspiring, crazy, super-human!5
-
Congrats @bubblegum2fitness!
@marisap2010 I'm so glad you are ok. That had to be really scary! I hope your pup is feeling better too!1 -
127.6 miles and 22:47:13 for October! I think I'm going to try to shoot for at least 130 miles in November now that I've got a good grasp of how many miles are average per month. I think I'd like to fit in something like a 10k or even 10 miler!8
-
@marisap2010 Hope you and the pooch recover well together.
@AlphaHowls it.
Conversation with myself this morning
Good me:Since I have a cold, I really should take a rest day today and hibernate under the blankets.
Runner me: Bah cold schmold. I really wanna see that 100 mile mark for the month.
Good me: Yes but beating illness requires energy.
Runner me: I can always just rest tomorrow, I planned to anyways.
Good me: I'll just roll back over and go back to sleep for another hour.
Runner me: I'm already late gotta dress quickly and get over to running area before I run outta time before work.
Good me: F I N E
Needless to say Runner me won the argument. It wasn't fast but it was 2.6 miles and put me at 100.14 for the month.

@marisap2010 How scary! Hugs to you and your pup.
10-29 2.85 miles and lower body strength
10-30 upper body strength
10-31 1.66 miles
30.24 / goal 25 miles
I tried to wait for the rain to stop this morning, but Accuweather was being inAccuweather, so I finally just went out in it.6 -
@Tramboman and @kgirlhart Thank you.
@Elise4270 Thanks! If you like horror and/or zombies, and you run with your phone (or maybe an apple watch, I don't have one so I don't know how the apple watch app works) you might like Zombies, run! It's an interactive podcast you listen to while walking or running. You pick up supplies to build a base during the zombie apocalypse. It's set in the UK, and the story is great. There is an optional premium membership but I don't remember how much it costs (something like $5 a month or $30 a year? For no ads, unlimited missions, interval training and airdrop modes, and more. It also occasionally goes on sale.)3 -

Nominal October mileage goal: 150 miles
Real Goals: Recover well from Wineglass. Avoid reinjury. Build volume only to the extent consistent with recovery and injury avoidance.
Today's notes – 100% chance of rain today. Fortunately, that didn't mean continual precipitation. The roads were always wet, and the skies were always gray, but I only got 4 or 5 minutes of light sprinkles during an hour+ run this noon.
Kept it easy, and it felt pretty good considering I have the remnants of a head cold. 55º F, so I couldn't ask for a better temperature; and daylight meant I could run in shorts and a tee. The fall foliage hasn't been the bright colors everywhere this year, but there have been spots here and there for quite a while. I paused for 30 or 40 seconds to get a picture of one of those spots about mile 3:
Today's run put me over my nominal mileage goal for October, even with missing a run on Sunday. How did I do with the real goals? Recover well from Wineglass, A+. Avoid reinjury, check. Build volume, just got it up to the monthly goal; but that's a success given injury avoidance.
Now to think about goals for November.

I haven't been happy with the last 3 pairs I've bought (3 different brands) so I'm kind of clueless about where to go from here. Fortunately I got a nice gift certificate to Fleet Feet from some friends for my upcoming birthday to apply to the effort.
I saw a podiatrist (who works with elite athletes) who recommended a couple of different shoes that he said would suit my foot (wide) and gait (osteoarthritis in big toe means a loss of power in right foot I push off that toe so need a shoe that will support, also, as a mid foot striker, a lower drop suits me better).
I then went to a specialist store to try said shoes and chose most comfy pair (actually ended up buying two - one for short distances, one for long). Ran my half in them last weekend and it was the first time in ten years I wasn't hobbling at the end - no aching, no blisters (I used to roll one foot and would end up with a blister in the same place every time after an event), no pain whatsoever. If only I'd done this years ago!!!
So, long story short, try going to a specialist to get fitted. Also, always take your old shoes with you so they can see your wear pattern.7 -
*sigh* 60 and raining here.
I "get" to sit and wait for the non-existent trick or treaters instead of going for a run.4 -

Sooooooooooooo much candy.2 -
No run today, so I guess that’s it for the month. I’m really working hard to keep it together right now so we can get this house deal done. I think we’re in the home stretch and I’m super stressed out but trying to go easy on myself. I guess running would be better than lots of napping and illicit cigarettes but so it goes.6

2.01 miles treadmill

30 mins left in official Trick or Treat Time and only 4 have shown up so far.
3 -
No run today. Studying for my biology midterm next week, doing strength training and yoga, then playing bioshock to get into the spooky mood. That or titanfall 2, because I love that game.4

3 easy miles. That's it for me for the month, and also my last run before my half.
I'm worried I'm coming down with something, my blood sugar was unexpectedly high today and I felt stressed - heart rate and BP also higher than usual.
I got to be a magical unicorn today though! I ran wearing this:
It was totally worth it, dozens of people smiled at me.14 -

None here. We have a drizzle during Trick or Treat hours, and I'm not in a prime location for kids anyway. But I knew about the location, so I have a limited amount of candy to deal with in November.0 -

This is our first Halloween here so we did not know what to expect. My son gave out candy by the handfuls to the 6 that came, so they got rewarded for making it to our house in the drizzle at least.2 -
32 here. The mini Pla-doh tubs were a huge hit. Two little girls shrieked with delight. 1 little boy was so excited he told his mom that it was the best Halloween ever. I had granola bars for the older kids but they wanted Pla-doh as well.
Several times a group of little kids would ask about my foot and said they hoped that I get better soon. So sweet!
And of course Kody was a big hit as he had to check out everyone who came.14 -
@7lenny7 I love that you had pla-doh! If I handed out anything I'd go with something like that or candy free of the top 8 allergens. Teal pumpkin stuff.

Ugh, October was not what I expected for the month before my half. I need to be better at pushing through exhaustion (one missed week). The other missed weeks were beyond my control (glutening and the death of my dad) so I have to give myself leniency there. I did get in a few runs during those occasions but not what was scheduled. Onto November!9 -
@marisap2010 - so glad you are ok!
@MobyCarp - love those trees!
@7lenny7 - love the pla-doh treats! When I was a kid one of the best treats was from a neighbor who owned the local toy store -they gave out balsa wood plane kits!
@rheddmobile - love your unicorn!
@RunsOnEspresso - you definitely need to give yourself some slack for October and maybe even November depending on how you feel! Hang in there! You will bounce back!3 -
I think we had one kid who yoinked from the bowl I left out because our neighbours got 3 kids... 2 of whom were mine. Our neighbours are great. They had special bags with all kinds of fun stuff made up for the boys. They always make an effort to decorate but most years my kids are their only trick or treaters because of the location (middle of a condo complex).4
-
I forgot when I logged last. I have my tally on my phone...to recap 50 mile goal for October.
October 5...5.23 miles
October 8...10.23 miles
October 13...10.26 miles
October 16...4.04 miles
October 17...5.01 miles
October 23...11.02 miles
October 27...12.09 miles
Total is 57.88 miles
Goal is 50 miles
Strong run on October 23rd and was pretty happy with it. The weather has been cool and the runs more enjoyable due to the brilliant Fall colors.
The run on October 27th was more of a disaster. I had a weird bladder control issue and had to duck behind some bushes. I still finished my run. I hadn't had that happen in a couple of years. Very embarrassing though.
My half is this Saturday...the Monumental. I really am not anticipating a PR or anything...just want a strong run...somewhat around the 2:45 mark. Picking up race packet tomorrow.

@rheddmobile I *love* the unicorn outfit!!
0 kids visiting my apartment last night. That makes 0 Halloween visits in total in my life. Lol, I guess my location is off by a couple ten thousands of kilometres
So I could have gone running, but I postponed it to tonight. I had a doctors appointment in the morning and had to go there without breakfast. I don't understand people who can survive without breakfast. I was starving by the time the blood test was done! I had some protein shake, an apple and orange juice waiting in my car, but I didn't even make it that far, I came accross a vending machine first and grabbed some emergency chocolate. And spend the rest of the day eating rubbish... So I should have gone for a run in the evening, but felt kind of meh, and only did an half hour strength training video instead.
Adding to that the weekend that I didn't run due to a big family event, and I only have 127.5 km for October, instead of my goal of 140km. ... new month, new luck, let's try 140km again in November!5 -

Dang kids really are lazy these days!1 -
It poured down rain all last night, so no trick or treaters - usually we get upwards of 200 - what am I going to do with all his candy?
Actually we did have one - during a lull in the rain the next door neighbor's little girl dashed over.3 -
We had about 20 trick or treaters but way less than normal so I've got a ton of candy left over. Meant to bring it to school today to give out to my students but forgot it. Oh well, tomorrow!
@7lenny7 - love the playdoh idea! Kody greeting the kids, how cute! My dog was barking non-stop at them. He's a little dog and loves everyone except anyone who knocks on the door.
