Did an Intense Burn Fitness 15 Second Rest DVD. Since Steve will be here and I wanted to do a few things after the water class, I’ll take that Friday and tomorrow I’ll do a Denise Austin Boot Camp DVD
Barbara – I’ve gotten to where I do as little as possible on facebook. I mainly use it to play words with friends game, but even then there aren’t that many people who play. I think a lot of people are getting disenchanted with facebook, I know of quite a few people who are no longer on it.
Okie – we voted a few days ago. I don’t know about you, but after I voted I was ready to see all the campaign signs come down….lol
Went to the neurologist today. Previously, I was taking one pill of phenobarbital one day and two the next. Now until the end of the year I’ll be taking only one pill. Then for Jan and Feb. taking ½ a pill. Then I’m to go for an EEG and if everything’s fine, he’ll take me off it. It’s just me, but I have this “thing” about putting a drug in my system. I’d like to get off it if I can. Hopefully, I can.
Then went to WalMart, returned the Halloween candy we didn’t use. Got a little over $14 back. Bought some food and after using that gift card, only had to pay a little over $2.
Looking for bleach that we can use in the pool. It has to be a concentrate with a certain percentage of concentration. Most stores carry 6% and that’s too little for us. Aldi used to carry what we needed, but they don’t any longer. Going to check Big Lots and the other WalMart. Many times they carry things that the other WM doesn’t carry. So maybe they carry the right concentration. Truthfully, I’m kind of doubting it. We know that CVS carries it, but you know that they’re going to be expensive
Decluttering: I try to declutter by eating…then I usually buy more. Like I may get a bag of candy (only at ½ price). But I am lucky in that I can limit myself to, like, just one Dove candy. Lately, tho, I don’t seem to be wanting it as much, which is a good thing.
Tanya – welcome!
Rene – welcome to a great group. Stop by very often. How cool is it that you’re in Italy? Would love to hear more about your life.
Lisa – how wonderful that the house is rented. I know this is a load off your shoulders. Doing a happy dance for you
Some polls are closed so Vince and Steve are anxiously watching the TV. They both are about of the same mind when it comes to politics. Me? “What will be will be”
Tracey -
Wendy – pop in when you can.
Barbie – so glad to hear that Jake’s surgery went well. When Vince had his first surgery, when they took the bandage off, the first thing he said was “when can we do the other eye?”
Paige and Cheryl – welcome

Cheryl in Florida, I came to MFP at age 62 after decades at unsuccessful tries at losing weight. I began by planning and logging my food for the day and sticking to the plan no matter what. Each day I learned something new and made small changes and the plan worked for me. I wish the same for you.
It didn't take long for the workers to remove the ancient ovens and Jennair range but it will take awhile to prepare the kitchen for the new stove and cupboard. In the process, they found a water leak under the house and water damage around where the electrical housing for the stove will be. All can be repaired. The electrician can't come til Monday so no stove until then. That means a lot of microwave meals, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Isagenix shakes.
I rode my exercise bike today for the first time since I injured my back in July. I have missed it. It makes watching TV so much more fun.
It's chilly enough here that Jake just built a fire in the wood stove.

As I mentioned, ours was for our local governments (mayors, etc.) ... is yours as well?

Hi Gals,
Janetr – what a great card, I was teary
Machka – I love the one thing at a time – it’s what I try to do but sometimes just get overwhelmed
Each state/county is different but in California we are voting on Governor, lieutenant governor, state assembly person from your district, federal senator, some judges, and other state posts as well as my town’s mayor, city council people, school board… and then 11 propositions.
Lanette – I was raised within the Christian Science religion and while within the forum is not the place for a discussion, I would be happy to discuss it with you. I am no longer practicing.
Lisa – the best news ever!
Well, I have a bit of driving to do this weekend, and my car decided to get sick, lucky me the repair place was willing to take it, hopefully it will not be too expensive. There is never a good time for a car repair!
Thanksgiving is gearing up to be a challenge, I have not been home for any holiday in years, but this one, as it is most likely my brothers last Thanksgiving (he’s dying of cancer) ; is one that I will attend for my mom. She is deep in denial, and if we have a last Thanksgiving together she can pretend that the last 15 years did not exist, and that we are just a happy family. (for the newbies, I am a domestic violence survivor and my brother is my abuser)
Quick bio - 60 this year, never married, no kids, a god mom to a girl and a boy and an Aunt to a boy – the youngest is 20 oldest 26 – the 4 of us are very close. Mom to a dog, Levi. I own 2 small businesses – I am a gardener (no mow and blow; but all the planting, trimming, irrigation repair) 5 mornings a week and I run a machine embroidery business afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Nov 1 - my roses.
Nov 2 - social media and staying connected with family and friends.
Nov 3 - blue. The blue of the mouth of the river/bay/start of the ocean out my window. The blue of the sky. My new blue sleeping top that was nice and comfy last night.

Nov 4 - food ... cheese. I ate a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches when my husband was in hospital. They were my comfort food. Also cheese has calcium which I think I need. Unfortunately, cheese does tend to be a bit high in calories so I shouldn't eat too much of it. But anything cheese-y is comforting.

Nov 5 - sound. I like listening to the waves and the birds, but I think the sound I'm most grateful for today is my husband's voice. Just the fact that we can talk to each other again.

Nov 6 - "What in nature are you grateful for?" ... That's hard to narrow down to one thing. Oxford dictionary describes nature as "the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth". I am grateful for all of it. I find that getting out into any sort of nature helps to relieve stress.
Nov 7 - "What memory are you grateful for?" ... Another one with so many choices!!! Recently, I've been grateful for two memories. 1) June 2017 ... my husband and I had a wonderful visit to Canada and did several things to make great memories ... hiking, cycling, visiting my family. I clung onto those memories during the months he was in hospital. 2) When I was 9 years old, my family moved away from where my grandmother lived. One of of the last days there, my grandmother took me to her window and showed me a full moon outside. She told me that on every full moon, we could both look at it and know that even though we were far apart, we were both looking at the same moon. That's a memory which has stuck with me all these years, and every time I see a full moon, I think of my grandmother. She's 97 years old ... but not doing so well ... so I've been thinking of her a lot. And I've also been very glad that my husband and I were able to see her when we visited Canada in June 2017.

It varies. In my state and county: governor, state representative (my ex husband's cousin. No one in my house voted for him. Lol, but he is winning) county commissioners (my oldest son's ex girlfriend's mother was running. We all voted for her, but she is losing.) judges, congress representative, local fire department funding, and a number of direct democracy state measures. Our senate seat wasn't in play.

Machka On my ballot we elected a U.S. Senator from Virginia, a Congresswoman to represent our district in the U.S. House of Representatives, & a County Attorney General. We also voted on 2 State level issues concerning exemptions from Personal Property Tax. So we voted on federal, state, district, and county issues for my locality. Obviously the district & county issues are going to vary depending on where a voter lives, but the election for Senator & the PPTax proposals were on every ballot in the state.0

Penny at NP - I love the Arctic area up at Inuvik, NWT, Canada in summer - except the mosquitoes. But they love me. I really want to visit there in winter to see the aurora more than the pale excuse we get for it once or twice s year here in WA State, USA. On really cold days when I was at college (-20 F) the air had a clarity and snap to it that was amazing. I’ve never had that experience since. I think I would enjoy a life like yours for a month or two summer and winter. I’d not want to miss out spectacular bloom time in spring and leaves in autumn, though

Heather: I am glad that your move is going so well. I agree that retirement is grand. I love your happy posts. I hope you find just the right Christmas tree for your new home. I’m growing 2 of my own. They are Alberta Spruce trees, and they live in pots in the yard most of the year. They come into the garage in early December to help them acclimatize, and then come right into the house. The larger one is 4 feet tall, including the pot it is planted in, and has the place of honor on a lovely carved trunk in front of the living room window. Luckily, they are very slow growing and tolerate coming in and out of the house in winter. Yay!!! The small one goes on a plant stand at the top of the stairs. It is only a couple of feet tall, including the pot. I also have many smaller artificial trees that go here and there in the house.
Wendy: I am so glad that you let us know you’re okay and working on balance in your life. I’ll be happy to hear from you whenever you are able to stop in.
Pip: Love the photo. It looks like Kirby is nearing the finish line. WTG!!!
Lanette: I think I missed giving you happy birthday wishes. I hope this turns out to be an excellent year for you. :flowerforyou: I just looked at my weather forecast, and we could have a low of 33F on Friday night. Days seem to be in the low to mid 50s. I’m guessing that you’re at a higher altitude than we are. According to my phone app, I’m at 28 feet above sea level, sitting at my computer on the ground floor of our house.
This is election night, and Oregon is a vote by mail state. We voted several days ago. There is a ballot box at the Court House parking lot, and we dropped our ballots in there rather than mailing them through the post office. It was easier for us. People have been sending in their ballots for a while. Thanks to the vote by mail system in Oregon, I already know who has been elected. According to the local newspaper office, my preferred candidates in county & local races won! Yay!!! State offices have been reported on TV, and I’m happy with the choice for Governor as well.

Memory I'm most grateful for: the look in my husband's eyes as he watched me in labor! It was a mix of wonder, compassion, awe and gratitude. Of course, giving birth to the kid was a memory as well. But the look in his eyes was a very powerful message to me and got me through.
Last night I had a whopper of an anxiety dream, I was arguing with a forner, difficult male colleague about a teaching decision or a problem, I was on the defense, I was losing ground, I was very upset trying to make my own corrections, I definitely sensed male superiority and arrogance aimed at me. I said I would wait to discuss further and then went further down the rabbit hole and quit and stormed out of the classroom into a series of classrooms with mirrored walls, trying to get out—yikes! Then discovered I'd left my keys back in the original classroom and would have to go back! That woke me up. So what was that vivid anxiety dream about---impostor syndrome?, professional indecisiveness?, frustration? Who knows, but a strong cup of coffee has calmed me down, and I've reset the start of my day with positive action (packing healthy food, prepping my gym bag and stepping on the scale, down .5 this morning).
Today I have to call our heating maintenance company and argue about a bill.....If I succeed it will because I've got you all in my pocket. I will vent the details after the call, wish me luck!

Good Morning Ladies~

Morning, afternoon, and evening, my friends,
The memory I'm most grateful for - sitting on the floor next to my mother's chair. I felt her fingers in my hair, and reached up to hold her hand. She told me how much she loved my hair and that she thought my hands were beautiful. She wasn't much on compliments most of the time. It was an unusual moment for both of us, and infinitely precious to me. Two weeks later, she had a stroke while she was out feeding the hummingbirds, and she left us. It's nearly 20 years ago now, but I can still bring back the memory of the home we kids had built for her that she loved so much, the scent of bread just out of the oven, that soft voice, the touch of her hand, knuckles swollen with the arthritis that plagued her, touching my hair, gently threading a curl away from the rest. It's enormously comforting in times of stress.
A more peaceful morning today than most have been of late. Doctor's appointment Friday to get the knee surgery requested, hopefully sorted out soon. And looking forward to ten days off for American Thanksgiving, from the 16th through the 25th.
Love y'all,
Lisa in Arkansas6 -
Good morning all! Happy Wednesday!
Tracey- Wait! What did I miss?! What happened to your job?
Rene, Sarah, and other newbies-Welcome!
Barbie- I love the simplicity of your life! I know you meditate regularly; do you think the simplicity is due to the meditation or were you always a "less is more" type of person?
Gratitude #7- favorite memory... I have a few that stick in my head, I remember my dad's words when my mom passed away "That was my girl." I remember jumping from bed to bed with my younger sister when we were visiting my aunt and the song "Sweet Caroline" playing on the radio ( "sweet Caroline...bah-bah-bah"= bounce, bounce, bounce) and doing this until my mom and aunt came upstairs and paddled our butts. I think the memory that sticks and is called upon the most is meeting my husband for the first time when we were 14. My stomach flip flopped as soon as I saw the freckle on the middle of his bottom lip. I went home that day and told my mom I met the guy I was going to marry and she laughed at me. I still see that freckle faced boy when I look at him. (Although sometimes I have to look really hard).

I have been out of the loop the past week. In process of helping DS#1 to find and buy a house. Offer was made yesterday on a home, so waiting to hear back. I did tell him as a buyer as much as he likes the house show that you will walk away if the seller is unreasonable. Process does seem much more complicated than when we bought 30 years ago.
DH lost in the election. He decided to run for one of our house position in our state. I did not say much about this because I too try to keep politics out of this site.
I know all the things going on here have got me distracted. I am misplacing things that I usually do not. So I am easily saying NO to anything extra.
I am ready to just have some time to paint and and to rest. Allie a cup of tea :drinker: sounds lovely
We have a coating of snow on the ground today.
Today is Zumba, voice lesson, and choir.
Lanette belated birthday wishes from me too!

Good morning ladies!
Thank you for the belated birthday wishes. It was in September and that's all I'll divulge, lol. For those of you into astrology, I was born at 2:23 pm Central time and have lots of planets in my 8th house. Danged if I can recall the significance of all this. It was a phase maybe 30-40 years ago. ENTJ's/INTJ's are enthralled by patterns and prediction up to a point, so the possibility of events and behavior dictated by astrology was something I HAD to delve into .
Barbie - I admire your calm attitude with the kitchen remodel and hope it all goes per schedule. There are always unforeseen surprises it seems. I've been seeing the contractor's van parked at the neighbors house across the street for the past month. Home Depot did deliver new appliances for them last week. They are doing an "all out" kitchen remodel and I'm sure will be lovely once its done. They do a lot of entertaining.
Lisa - thank you for sharing that sweet memory of your mother.
Katla - we are at around 600 ft above sea level here in the foothills, so when the weatherman says snow above 500 feet we generally see some.
There were 2 things that interested me in this election, and they were both local. One was the possibility of changing our form of county government from 3 commissioners to an elected county executive with elected council members. It failed.
The other was expansion of public transit service which currently serves our 2 most populated cities to service into small outlying towns-ranging from 30 to 60 miles one way from higher populated manufacturing areas. Proponents of the new service (which would have raised taxes) said citizens could use it to commute to work and also seniors would benefit. Opponents pointed out it would be underfunded from day one and there wasn't the need at this time. Somehow, the need was currently being met which was true. It also failed.
Decluttering one drawer/shelf/container at a time is really going well. And keeping me from grazing due to boredom, so two wins right there.
Time to get on with the day. Have a good one!
Lanette

Good morning! I've been reading posts and trying to get familiar with everyone, but it'll take time. I took a 35 minute walk outside this morning. It was a brisk 40 degrees (F). I walk around the condo community I live in which is a nice big circle with some small hills. Six circles takes me 35 minutes and is 1 3/4 miles. I'm trying to work up to doing 7 circles in the same time. Small goals. Small steps. I was tickled to take a .2 lb loss on the scale this morning, too. It's the little things that keep me motivated.
Grateful memories for me this year: A visit from my brother in June and my sister in October. Both live in Texas and I'm in Ohio. My youngest daughter coming to spend several hours with me to color and chat on a few weekends. Since she has four children in middle school and high school, works full-time, and is a marathon runner, these times are few and precious! Having middle daughter bring me chicken noodle soup when I was ill. Skyping every Friday with my daughter in Wisconsin. Making prayer shawls and having friends contact me when they know someone going through a rough time who needs one. Such a blessing in the giving.
Wishing you all a great day!

oh I have so many wonderful memories of my childhood... both my parents grew up in the same town, so on the weekends ,every weekend on Saterdays we would go to my moms parents house, and on Sundays to my dads parents house... my grandpa Scott was an antique dealer (moms dad) and going there meant checking out all the neat stuff in the barn and the smell of the barn and musty smell, whenever I walk into an old house it brings those memories back... my grandma Scott would make bran muffins and scrambled eggs with paprika for breakfast in her electric skillet... and sometimes we got to go with Grandpa to flea markets....
My dads mom owned a nursery school, my grandpa died when I was 8 of alzhiemers but back then they didn't know what it was.. but she had all the old pedal cars and swings and a homemade roller coaster that was the favorite.. all it was was a piece of plywood with handles and roller skate wheels on a little hilly track but hours and hours of fun on that, inside she had the cardboard building blocks , records, books ,coloring stuff any amount of wonderful things that would keep us busy... and boy what a cook she was.. we had a big meal with her every sunday and at the end of the day we would be put in our jammies and watch Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom and Wonderful World of Disney and then our parents would take us home....
and up at the cottage.. ohhh the fun .. going to the beach and my grandmother making lunch to take with and red plaid thermos with lemonade , and washing our feet off before going in, sleeping on the screened in sleeping porches and listening to the surf lull you to sleep...
Labor Day weekend was the best as it was Grandma Williams and my brother Seans birthday and boy did we have a blast because my grandma was just a kid at heart... from about the age of 4 we have an old wicker tea cart up at the cottage... and we would fill that with snacks and booze , and I was pouring drinks even then, bunch of alcoholic's in the family but what did we know.. all I know is the cousins had a blast and every year we would make homemade peach ice cream with a hand crank ice cream maker, as we still do to this day.. we didnt get to do it this year because of my dad passing.. but hopefully next year...
the cottage is over 100 yrs old and my great great aunt had a girls boarding school in Chicago and built it to bring the girls out for the summers, well it was the only thing she didn't loose in the stock market crash as she had already put it in my grandmothers name...
we played a game called sardines.... so on the screened porches we have canvas roll down shades , so when everything is closed up it is pitch dark, so you send one person up to hide.. and here is the premise if you find them not a word you hide with them.. so hence the name sardines my grandpa fell asleep on the far side of a bed and nobody ever found him, there is no lights turned on nothing pitch dark, oh the snickers and giggles when there is one lone person walking around saying hey where did everybody go
those will be memories that can never be taken away, and its such a shame that this generation is so busy with life that the dont slow down to take time to be with family, as my mom said when we were doing something wonderul we were making memories and thats the truth9 -

Hi, I'm Cindy (age 55)...I've been on MFP almost a month now. I've lost about 15 lbs so far...but I've still got a long way to go. I started at 273 and my ultimate goal is 135. So far I haven't been too hungry, but yesterday I was starving almost all day long. I see my weight loss doctor tomorrow for my first monthly check-up as well as my first resting metabolic rate test. That should be interesting. I was originally prescribed Qsymia but I have taken myself off of the medication as I didn't like how it made me feel (plus I don't want a crutch)....that's probably why my hunger was so bad yesterday.2

Love reading about everyone's memories! Mine would be my grandmother's smile and twinkling blue eyes when she greeted me after working all day.

The first favorite memory that comes up is being a child on Christmas Eve having our gift opening at my grandparents house then going home to find Santa there with all our gifts under the tree and still in his bag.
