So have I complained about running in new shoes lately? Oh. probably not since it has been <cough><sputter> months since I have put on new shoes.
Ran 12.1 miles in the brand new shoes and ugh they are so stiff and padded. I can not feel the ground anymore! *grumble* It will be weeks probably before I pound them into some semblance of usable.8 -
So Strava thinks I am at 1,913 miles for the year. So using some very fancy extreme math that means I need to hit at least 105 miles I will have 2018 for the year. I think I can pull that off. Heck, if I could get some time off work, I could get that done next week... not going to happen though!11

I've been absent for a week or so as the calf cramp I had in my off-road half turned out to be a little more serious and I've been doing preventative exercises in lieu of running (I don't want to risk tendonitis). I have strained my calf and have a knot in the muscle the size of a golf ball which I'm slowly trying to untangle. Every time I run it seizes up, my achilles complains and my hip seizes, so with some physiotherapy along with osteopathic care and massage (and self-trigger point massage), I am seeing progress. I've pulled out of next weekend's relay marathon as it's off-road and with the wet weather we've had, it'll be super slippery and the risk of further damaging it is too great, and also, as a team event, I had to allow time for a replacement runner to be found to take my place. I haven't run in nearly a week, but will test it out tomorrow with a gentle 8km.
Anyway, all things going to plan, I can hopefully do 100km this month, maybe more, but it's hard with the holidays and (dare I say it) the heat and humidity!!

Great question! I hadn't thought of one yet. Love the local guy inspiring you!!!2 -

@PastorVincent - This is why I run in less cushioned 0 drop shoes! They have no issue out of the box.
Ok so on @rheddmobile's question... my trainer inspires me but really I do think it is so many here (@elise4270, @LaDispute57 and others who overcome so much to just try to run) and some who aren't part of the challenge any longer who have run against all odds just because they love it and the sense of freedom it gives them.6 -

Who inspires you, as a runner?
As a runner I get inspiration from a retired lady who is a power walker. She lives in the nearest city to me that hosts a lot of events by differant groups so we end up at events together.
At most of these events the walkers start 30 minutes ahead of the runners, this allows them to spread out on the course so they don't block other athletes and finish between the Fastest 5/10k runners and HM runners. At my first event I remember coming around a corner and seeing this lady cruising along and disappearing around a corner in the trail ahead of me. As a runner I foolishly thought I would catch up to her pretty fast.
NOT - It was amazing to realize how fast she was able to cruise along - I learned a valuable lesson and respect for anyone out hitting the trails, whether just a fun walk with the family or taking part in an organized event.
Also inspired by the long timers in this group who always reach out with support to the people just joining up with a lot of questions/concerns that we as a group answer based on our experience.10 -

I have a feeling I'll be even worse next week, but luckily (for you all at least lol) I'm taking a couple of days' break in the countryside to hopefully catch up on some sleep and relax beforehand, and as I can't access the forum from my phone (long story, Spanish app sends me to Spanish forums) you won't have to put up with my rambling doubts ;-) Plan is to head out there Wednesday afternoon, come home on Saturday morning switch cases head for the city hit the race expo pick up pack look at the Xmas lights stay in hotel try to sleep run/walk all the miles eat all the doughnuts. Then maybe take a shower
@eleanorhawkins I just noticed yesterday you can change languages. Maybe this might help? Have a great time!

I’m gonna aim for 55-60 miles, but the first half of December is gonna be finals and tons of stress so I guess I’ll have to see how it goes. The good news is my winter break lasts all the way until the end of January so I’m gonna run lots!
I’m debating signing up for my first HM at the end of March. I want to take that leap and sign up but I’m scared i won’t be ready. The furthest I’ve ever run is 6.5 miles and I do find myself walking still when it gets tough. Do you think 16 weeks is manageable? My family thinks I’m nuts so they aren’t really any help
@amirahdaboss Go for it! The end of March would mean starting a 12-week training plan in January, which works for your schedule. I hadn't run more than 5 miles at once when I signed up for mine and I walk for one minute out of every 10 on purpose! Have a look at beginner or novice training plans that aim to get you prepared to finish injury free and without a time goal rather than something too intense for your level. I've followed Hal Higdon's Novice 1 and while at times I feel it is rather low mileage I think (hope! Tell you soon! lol) it has done its job.
My family thinks I'm nuts too, but we have an amazingly supportive second family here who are all the best!

First month back to the challenge since April I think, I have been very ill this year with severe anemia and then (unrelated) jaw surgery so not been able to commit to this.
This month Im aiming for 90 Miles as that is what I need for 1000 for the year.
So far:
1/12 - 5.5
Total - 5.5/90 Miles15 -

My trail shoes are 0 drop. I am probably going to switch to 0 drop for road next time I buy, but I bought these shoes back in July - or thereabouts - during Amazon's big sale. So will wear them down first probably. Especially given how broke I am this time of year.0 -

Hello! I’ve been MIA for almost a month now due to mostly laziness and a few migraines. I don’t have much excuse though. I know I feel blah lately since I haven’t been running, so I’m making December a priority.
I’ll be in the UK for a little over a week at the end of the month, and while I hope to get in some runs there, I am going to set a small goal of 20 miles for the month. I hope to pick up significantly in January as I begin training for an April half.10 -
12-1 7k easy
December Total: 7k
December Goal: 150k
Another great day for a run and a good way to start out December.6 -

Haha! That's sweet. But think I just dont know when to give up! I do plan on being 85 and winning my AG. The way we're (humans) going, I'll have plenty of company
in my age bracket.
who inspires me?
When i started here, it was absolutely the participants. They were trail blazers to me. Of course @shanaber @skippygirlsmom and @Stoshew71 and @WhatMeRunning (miss ya chris). And @ddmom0811 @7lenny7... and so on (so so many others!) There were so many willing to offer support in those early months of tackling that mile!
Of course lone wolf with his enduring wit and hip replacements gave me hope. I too would give the situation a middle finger.
Then i migrated to Kara Goucher, Shalene, Desi, and all the female running greats! And the Iron Nun.
So to sum it up.... My inspiration comes form anyone that gets out there and puts one foot in front of the other. @garygse and others make it look easy. I appreciate their efforts too as a reminder of what the human body is capable of doing. Heck my DNA and your dna are so similar that we are one. Your steps lead my steps. I love you all for it.13 -

First December run done! It was a pretty nice morning with temps above freezing for a change. Snow/ice/mud on the trails meant that we had to stick to the roads in the park though - which means lots of hills. This is the first time doing much of that in a long while so I found it challenging. Fun run though catching up with a lot of our pack of friends.
I'm going to set a goal of 100 miles for December, rather arbitrarily. Next Saturday I have a 5k that I'm looking forward to. I think I'll also start back with regular group speedwork on Monday, although I've been enjoying the time off from it. I can tell from today's run that I haven't been doing that.
Upcoming races:
12/8/2018 It's a Wonderful Run 5k, Seneca Falls, NY
1/13/2019 Chilly Chili 5k, Cazenovia, NY
2/24/2019 Lake Effect Half Marathon, Syracuse NY
3/10/2019 Greek Peak Winter Sprint Spartan Race, Cortland NY
5/5/2019 Mountain Goat Run (10 mile), Syracuse NY
6/2/2019 Niagara Falls Women's Half Marathon, Niagara Falls, ON
Need to find an April race to fit in there.

Yesterday and today are rest days. I avoided the rain this morning and rode a slow, easy 10 miles on our indoor recumbent bike. Hoping the rain will let up and we can do a dry walk with the dogs outside later...2

My trail run was cancelled due to weather. It was FLOODING here this morning. I guess they cancelled due to liability. They did keep the after party

I got first in age group for my wine drinking abilities 🤣🤣🤣20 -
AG placing at St Jude Marathon weekend 5k - 3rd of 236 in my AG, 4k runners total. I lined up at the start next to the lady who took either first or second in my AG, she took her shirt off before the start and her rippling abs were astonishing! Like Wonder Woman with gray hair. Race report to follow, Korean food first.16

Looked over my December training plan and added up the "recommended" miles and I came up with about 105. We will be conservative and call it 100. I am not sure if I have ever actually hit a 100-mile month. There's a first time for everything! I GOT THIS!
12/1 4.37 miles (7k trail race)
Total 4.37/1009 -

Hubby will be doing some work near Lincoln, so I’ll be staying there with him. I’ll get a day of sightseeing in London as well, and I hope to head over to Nottingham too.

Morning all! The wind has died down, and the rain has stopped, should be an excellent day for a long run! The longest I've managed in the last 2 weeks is 8k, which feels so short! Waiting for hubby to get up so I can go out. Damn you football (Liverpool!)5

Seems when I set a numeric goal, more often than not, I end up missing it, so I'm going to do what I did last month: run! Ok, I want to stick to my training plan as much as I can, and cross both line on the 15K in 2 weeks. But I just plan on keeping up this pattern. Seems to have been working for me so far!

Girl, I am so watching you and the 15k... I know they are in different cities but I can’t wait to see your take.
I really want to see my jacket 🤣🤣3 -
This morning's run was more about goals, I think than actual performance, cause, lets face it, I preformed horribly!
1: Finally accomplished a long time goal by running around Benderson Park lake. I did it today, twice. Man that lake is smaller when you are driving by it than running around it!
2: Farthest distance I have gone to date.
3: Going beyond my January goal of 200 miles for the year. (only needed 5.37 miles, got them plus!)
4: For the past 2 years, I have had a copied out post from a singer (Sully Erna from Godsmack) when he ran 7.02 miles and a quote: "Never let the body run the mind. The body will always be tired and give up. Always let the mind run the body!" on my fridge. Almost daily I have touched it & said "One day. One day I'll run 7.02 miles as well". Today was that day. (definitely a LOT slower than he ran it!)
However, I just could NOT get out of my head today! I tried every little trick I could, but just constant chatter. Yes, I did accomplish the 7.02 miles, but towards the 1/2 way mark, I was struggling with even a run 3 mins/walk 2. Had a hard time breathing (inhaler getting old?), body just felt tired - did not sleep well last night, and I had a few drinks. (Now I know I can't drink at all the night before a run) Plus about 1/2 way though, my left hand felt all swollen up (right was holding a bottle, felt fine). Is that something I need to expect from a longer run like this?
12/1 - 7.02 miles - 7.02 miles done

Congrats on placing in your AG @rheddmobile! Fantastic!
And @Beka3695 well done with the wine drinking AG win I would be willing to compete for that medal.
Who inspires me?
I will also say all of the runners here who keep plugging away at whatever their goals are, and encourage others in achieving their goals, no matter how different. I love hearing about the massive miles, the first miles, the age group wins and the DFL finishes - but finishes nonetheless!
Locally, I'm super inspired by the group of women I've found to run with. I'm probably most inspired by the ones who are not any faster than me, but have accomplished so much with their running (such as working on or completing 50 marathons in 50 states) because they just keep at it. They are also the most encouraging people in the world. I would never have attempted running a marathon without seeing how they were "normal" people (not some kind of unapproachable super athletes) who just worked hard and having them tell me I could do it too. Their positivity and never quit attitudes are amazing to me.
Not the purpose of the question really, but in another way, I'm inspired in my running every day by my younger sister who I lost to cancer 4 years ago. I think about her every day - when I accomplish something I wish I could tell her about, or when I'm tired and don't want to do it anymore I think of how she never complained and all she endured.

Whoa no pressure for me! lol
The jacket looks really nice on-line, can't wait to see it in person. Down side is I waited too long to register, and the packet mail out is closed. I have to go to the expo the day prior to pick it up. Not too bad, except Tampa is about a 45 - 60 min drive each way from my house! Frustrating. (Oh well, I'll bring my broken belt with me, hopefully the dealer is there & can do something?)

No pressure!!! I’m a member of the Sloth Running Team... we get there when we get there!!!! I’m just curious about the race. Like do they literally DQ folks for being too slow. I think I have about a 1:30 min buffer per mile but still - cramp, acorn or rock in the roadway, i trip over my own feet, forced to poo mid run (luckily this has not happened yet) but, stuff happens to slow your run.
I’m signing off for the next few hours.
