@MegaMooseEsq The uneven nature of the different scenarios was something I noticed when I was reading comments on the game while verifying how certain rules worked. I look forward to playing through more of the stories though. And I may just take the plunge and buy PLegacy. Part of me wants to get our strategy improved first. 😂 I’ve never played a Legacy game and it feels very _permanent_ so to speak. Lovely shadow box, well thought out gift for sure!1

So both the massage therapist and physiotherapist are pleased with how my calf injury is healing. No running until after Christmas though. However, watch out January!!!
There is one bonus among the severe calorie restriction that comes with no running and my complementary total ban on chocolate and Christmas treats, it's getting way too hot and humid to run here. It's sweltering today. I love it (except for the fact my ban also includes cutting out any G&Ts on the deck (alcohol simply makes me lose all other resolve)).
And just so you're all fully jealous (well, the majority of you in the throes of winter), here's my veggie garden and back lawn basking in the blazing sunshine right now - we're at that maximum lushness stage where there's been a lot of rain in the past few weeks and rising temperatures so everything is growing madly (I'm about to lose control of my cucumbers - we can't eat them fast enough). Give it a couple of weeks and things will start succumbing to the heat and dry.

I enjoy Ted. I thought the dark materials were too antagonistic.

Yesterday night had great weather for running, a smudge over freezing and clear skies. Was planning on 6km, made it to 4 and cut it short due to GI trouble. Running kinda hates me right now.6 -
I can not believe y'all are not any fun entertaining me at the docs office. I threw out some funny stuff. (Well i thought so) It all worked out. I was his first appointment after lunch and he had my favorite PA in training, we had a great visit. I clipped my nails, took/put on rosecea med so I'm a bit more human. I do not like the feeling after shaving, so I'ma be a yeti.
I can not be the only one that is overly self conscious at the docs office.
Of course not necessarily running related. The toe is probably fungal. Sent a clipping to the lab, oh someone there's gonna be stoked. The constant ringing in my ear is mearly my brain trying to escape and crying for help. Or it could be that I get to see a specialist in January for an alternate diagnosis along the thought of a neurosensory issue. I hope its terminal. Ah heck, least its another day off work. Probably nothing but noisy work and old age. Yay.
I have had tooo much candy the last few days. Dd made candy at paternal grandmothers/dads (hehe ya he live w mama). Oh wait. My kid still lives w me. its the candy. I'll settle down after a steak. Whis cookin''?
@MobyCarp @PastorVincent a chair won't fit in my shower. And if it did, I'd 1- probably drown looking up at the shower head or 2- stand up on it and fall off allowing my brain to escape its confinement. See?Haha! Gottcha really thought i was gonna share a shower pic, eh?8 -
7 miles this evening. Felt really good for a change. Usually the run after a long run is horrible. Not sure what the difference was today, but I'll just enjoy it.
There was a recent discussion about running in the dark and reflective gear and/or bright clothes. Well I don't really bother with that as I rarely run in the street or cross busy intersections. And I feel I am very aware of drivers and can dodge them if needed. Well, I had to cross an intersection tonight, but didn't have any close calls...so I thought. When I walked through the door, my wife lit into me, saying "I almost hit you crossing _____ Rd. What are you doing running in all dark clothes!" I know I looked both ways and didn't think there were any cars even close. So I guess I'll start wearing some flashing lights and reflective gear from now on. Yeesh.
As a wife... when I tell my husband I almost hit something, I may have a tendency to exaggerate a bit (especially if she's concerned about your safety). But that wouldn't explain you not even seeing her. Are you both sure it was you?
Of course I'm not trying to enable you running in dark clothes and no lights. Even if it just gave her some peace of mind, it would probably be worth wearing something to increase visibility.3 -
@elise4270 - I too am overly self-conscious at my doctor's office (any doctor honestly) it is why I have 'white coat' syndrome and my normally normal BP goes off the charts... Once I see said doctor I am fine and my BP is perfect - even better than perfect.... also I don't shave my legs any more. I do go once in a while to have them 'sugared' (it is awesome!) and honestly don't have much hair on my legs any longer. I did go and get a pedicure before I went to the podiatrist though - ha!
Love the pig - I think he is a runner and has a quarter squeezed in there! Go glutes!3 -

Thank you for that lovely visual! I'm going for my run now.4 -
@orphia the conclusion of the study. "These discoveries may explain why shoes with more cushioning do not protect against impact-related running injuries."
It is one study. And one must remember to run in what works best for ones self. I personally need minimal cushion. Overly cushioned shoes do cause me to over stride, run too fast for my ability and allow my glutes to turn off. But that's me. Others without my issues, may have no problems with the cushion. My retired dentist runs Boston, Chicago etc and loves the overly cushioned shoes.
I am going to see an ortho doc who treats runners and appreciates that people want to run, regardless of how 'old' they are. Hopefully I can pick his brain for recommendations so I don't end up with another stress fracture as the podiatrist is convinced will happen if I run. Also someone asked a while back if I had had a bone density and I had one in October - I just don't have the results from my doctor but I am sure if something were wrong she would have notified me.
Yes, I agree, I can't run with shoes that feel like marshmallows ie maximalist as in the study, nor do I like minimalist, nor stability/support shoes. Neutral shoes with regular cushioning is fine for me.
We were born to run and we were born to make tools to make life bearable.
I'm a worrier, so I'd ring about the bone density results just in case they got overlooked. That's great about seeing the orthopedic doctor! Let us know how you go!4 -

@girlinahat I wouldn't say it's better than Harry Potter. Just different. Equally as good, very original, and very, very beautiful.

Hey everyone.
So over the last week I've been insanely lazy and loved every moment of it. It's been wonderful not getting up at 530am, and eating pretty much what ever I wanted. BUT I've gained several kgs. And I know this because my scrubs are getting a little snug, along with the rest of my clothing.
So today is day 1 of my holidays (yay! Woo hoo) so im going for a run, first in a week (going to be hell lol) and rein in my eating a bit. And in January I'll get right back into it. New year, new mindset!11 -
I soooo wanted to run yesterday! Just didn't fit in :-|
Today is a news day and the bike's seen the road!5 -
12/1-9 Totals: bike 41 minutes, run 39.1km
12/10-16 Totals: bike 40 minutes, run 40km
12/17 - run 6.5k (9x400@5k pace +recovery)
12/18 - run 15k
Woke up to "highly polluted" smog levels outside. Inside the house though, I now have TWO expensive air purifiers going, so at least I can breathe in my own house. I don't know where the line is as far as smog and the health risks outweighing the benefits from the run... yes, it seemed iffy today, but I actually did compromise by not doing my full planned route and by wearing a smog mask. I hate running in that thing, even with the cute little rechargeable draw fan it can't keep up with run-breathing and I feel like the general lack of air today made up for not increasing over last week's distance. Oh well. I do feel GREAT having completed the run, and fully plan to spend the rest of the morning sitting beside my air purifier, doing work with my SAD lamp next to me.

@ContraryMaryMary glad to hear the healing is going well and in awe of your willpower!
@Elise4270 and @shanaber I too suffer chronic doctor anxiety... and gynaes? Don't even wanna talk about that but let's just say that's the main reason I only have one child!
@Avidkeo glad you've enjoyed your well-deserved rest and now enjoy your well-deserved holidays!
So I ran 3km on the treadmill this morning, so slowly I was almost going backwards. By this morning I was in an emotional meltdown, stress levels were through the roof and I was basically a red hot ball of fury bouncing off walls and about to explode at any moment, and although yesterday I had decided to stick to walking for an hour today I seemed to spend half the night awake thinking about running and wondering if I should. Started out ok but then the teenager provided the trigger and yeah, I exploded on that treadmill. Albeit slowly. Guess it may have been kill or cure, we'll see when I have to go up the infamous killer hill this afternoon whether or not I regret it.
I seemed to be tight and niggly all over while I was running but there was no actual pain, so fingers crossed. AND because I was going so slowly I kept going for half an hour without having to take a single break, so that cheered me up (I'd been doing 9-1 run-walk intervals for months!)
2/12: 16km
5/12: 5km
6/12: 3km
9/12: 21km
12/12: 3km
14/12: 5km
18/12: 3km dreadmill
December goal: 75 km. Completed so far: 56km

Love Frank Perreti😍 Dekker was through a friend of mine😁. Another series I enjoyed but could've used some editing help was Alexandra Bracken's Darkest Minds series.
ETA: 3 mile tempo run with cool down, negative splits for the entire run. I felt really good throughout the run, but I knew I was pushing it in mile 3(started to wheeze towards the end). Eh cold weather running issues😋4 -

@amymoreorless - have you tried the FlipBelt capris? What did you think of them? how is the compression? The offer still works but I am hesitant to try them
@shanaber I just received them in the mail yesterday. I am trying them on my 10 mile run tomorrow. I will let you know.2 -

So, I didn’t go to yoga last night. My husband got a small raise so we went out to eat. I ate salmon and mashed potatoes in a lemon butter garlic sauce (and washed it down with several glasses of wine) instead. 🙄. Let the yelling begin....
I did 40 minutes of boring strength training / weights this morning. It was as terrible as it sounds. I discovered that I am starting back at the beginning because it’s been so long. Sigh. Okay, New Years resolution. Do some damn strength training 2x a week. (I really hate doing strength training)

I know, I was thinking the same thing that she was mistaken and it wasn't even me. But she said she saw my face, and she recognized my running style . Just like when my daughter was dancing on stage we could always pick her out of the crowd by her unique style of dance, even on a very dark stage. I'm not saying I run with the grace of a dancer...but I'm not NOT saying it14 -
@amymoreorless YELL YELL YELL! Now seriously.... what kind of strength training are you doing? Cause if it bores you and you hate it you're never gonna keep it up unless you have steel willpower and self-discipline.... Maybe if it's the tedious x sets of x repetitions blah blah blah you could consider trying something faster paced? Fitness Blender have strength routines specifically classified as "for people who get bored easily" that are quick (pretty much a cardio routine as well as weights) and don't repeat exercises. I found that was key to keeping up with mine. Back before I started focusing on running and let my strength training slip. Dammit I need to make the same resolution as you.... we can hold each other accountable ;-)
@Scott6255 maybe you have a secret twin that runs as *cough* gracefully as you do... seems strange that you didn't see her, was she driving with no lights? Sounds like she needs telling off for that...

@amymoreorless I have found that just like running in the (insert whatever kind of weather you don't like here), consistent strength training takes dedication. I enjoy the strength training because even at the same weight people think I have lost "x" amount(it always varies). Also helps with decreasing injury-proneness and strengthens secondary running muscles that help me run faster. But that's just me.
With the new year I will be cutting back to 2 days of strength training(would like to keep it at 3) but I am going to attempt 365 days of consecutive running. I know that it sounds like a lot of running, and I know that I am on a team for run the year, but I really think that I can do it. Thank you @garygse and @AlphaHowls for inspiring this. As @MobyCarp always says though: The real goal is building mileage while avoiding injury. Have a runderful day everyone!5 -
@Scott6255 This right?4

@amymoreorless Re: strength training. It may not be your thing, but I do rock climbing as my strength training. I sort of like lifting weights, but never did find something I could stick with. But I LOVE rock climbing. It's interactive and social and so challenging, both mentally and physically. It's like exercising while solving puzzles, so I find it hard to get bored. And no 2 climbs are ever the same! Certainly not conventional strength training, but it works for me! I'm always trying to introduce people to the sport!4
