Way way better though is the Philip Pullman series ‘His Dark Materials’. A modern day fairy tale complete with all the darkness of the original Brother’s Grimm.

@girlinahat I wouldn't say it's better than Harry Potter. Just different. Equally as good, very original, and very, very beautiful.

For dark, definitely not kids stuff I enjoy Ted Dekker's Circle series. Was dark enough I didn't want to read during night shift doing home care. Some religious overtones but, meh, what doesn't these days. Where does the schizophrenic mind go when the body sleeps?

@MegaMooseEsq will have to check out the series you mentioned.

I enjoy Ted. I thought the dark materials were too antagonistic.
I found dekker thru Frank Peretti

Love Frank Perreti😍 Dekker was through a friend of mine😁. Another series I enjoyed but could've used some editing help was Alexandra Bracken's Darkest Minds series.

ETA: 3 mile tempo run with cool down, negative splits for the entire run. I felt really good throughout the run, but I knew I was pushing it in mile 3(started to wheeze towards the end). Eh cold weather running issues😋

Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.

Rest day today. Hip is a little stiff this morning.

@amymoreorless - have you tried the FlipBelt capris? What did you think of them? how is the compression? The offer still works but I am hesitant to try them

@shanaber I just received them in the mail yesterday. I am trying them on my 10 mile run tomorrow. I will let you know. :)

Okay guys, keep me accountable please!

I am going to a Yin yoga class tonight and doing strength training with kettlebells tomorrow morning. I have been seriously slacking on the cross training. It has been MONTHS since I have touched a weight. Someone please yell at me if I make lame excuses when I check in tomorrow.

So, I didn’t go to yoga last night. My husband got a small raise so we went out to eat. I ate salmon and mashed potatoes in a lemon butter garlic sauce (and washed it down with several glasses of wine) instead. 🙄. Let the yelling begin....

I did 40 minutes of boring strength training / weights this morning. It was as terrible as it sounds. I discovered that I am starting back at the beginning because it’s been so long. Sigh. Okay, New Years resolution. Do some damn strength training 2x a week. (I really hate doing strength training)

@amymoreorless Re: strength training. It may not be your thing, but I do rock climbing as my strength training. I sort of like lifting weights, but never did find something I could stick with. But I LOVE rock climbing. It's interactive and social and so challenging, both mentally and physically. It's like exercising while solving puzzles, so I find it hard to get bored. And no 2 climbs are ever the same! Certainly not conventional strength training, but it works for me! I'm always trying to introduce people to the sport!
