Mornin' another intense work week ahead. 3 evening concerts. So the plan is to pack the gym bag, pack healthy snacks and meals, gas up the car and follow through. I am mixing things up today and heading to the gym before work super early, so I can fit it in today to get the week started right.
I'm toying with the idea of signing up for a 5k in DC sometime in April. I think this will be motivating and rewarding, it's just a thought right now, gonna walk through the idea and do some research but I thought it might be kinda fun way to visit the kid in the spring.

Morning Ladies~
I am up and having my tea... fed Alfie and checking with you all.Band was great last night, but right before they began to play the power went out...the keyboardest who's band it was couldn't play but the bass and drums and vocalist could for a bit, it was cold and rainy outside but they had a roaring fire going and after about 45 minutes the power came back on and they continued on..had some sit in with bongo player a couple of trombone and sax players, 2 of them teens, so the music is being brought down through the generations... I stayed until 8:30 and it was still nasty rain outside, but got home safely and tucked in for the night.. it is a small place so I always wear earplugs,I might look like an idiot but ,I can hear the conversations and the music just fine without all the background noise...such a good investment.. I am all done Christmas Shopping , except for the lady who watches my dog and I go to see my hairdresser tomorrow.. I usually buy her something nice but might just give her cash...
my kids and DGD are all set..3 -
Good morning!
I'm beginning to give some thought to my word for next year. This year's word was EMBRACE, which turned out to be perfect. I have a feeling it might be FORWARD.
So lovely to have our house to ourselves. Sooooooooooooo enjoying it. Tomorrow we have got to get up early because the men are coming to move the radiator. There won't be any heat while they drain the system, so I might visit the fish market and have a sandwich round the corner in our local café.
This afternoon we will do a supermarket shop and move some stuff out of the bedroom for the men. They will have to deal with the extremely heavy bed.
We have made our decision at last about the spring cruise to Spain. We are NOT going. I still have to ring the company and cancel, so I might do that in a minute. We are still going on my 70th birthday cruise next autumn to Scandinavia.
I really don't have the money for the spring one and we booked it to cheer ourselves up when we had abandoned the idea of moving to Hove. I can go to Spain any time and much cheaper. Now we are here I think the spring will be a delightful adventure with loads to do and explore.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx7 -
Goals
People are starting to post their 2019 goals in other subforums and forums that I frequent. Most years I have a long list of goals. In fact, I could dig out my 2018 goals pretty quickly ... I may even have them in a blog. Yeah ... they're there. I don't know whether you can see it or not, but this is my MFP Blog: https://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Machka9
Anyway, since the accident, all the goals went right out the window, and now it is very difficult to come up with any. How do you come up with goals, and especially goals for an entire year, when you've discovered that life is uncertain and devastating, and that at any minute you could have the rug ripped out from under you? And when you know you've got some huge things to deal with in coming months ... the outcomes of which are completely unknown?
I can't plan ahead and say that come June we'll visit my family in Canada or anything like that ... I simply don't know if that will be possible on several levels.
However ... all that said, I do have a couple goals, and will think on this in coming days. Maybe I'll come up with more ...
1) I have signed up for a half-marathon. I really hope I can do that.
2) I am also really hoping I can complete 2-3 uni courses toward my Master's Degree. I'm anticipating that it won't be easy, but I'm hoping to battle through.
And you?

Morning, afternoon, and evening, all...
Cari - yes, I write. Thank you for asking! Right now, I have two blogs going and three books up on Amazon. Heather UK also has a number of books up on Amazon. Don't know if the refrigerator magnet phrase is the beginning for a novel... but it's the beginning of something.
Machka - I thought your comment was funny, but it also triggered an idea. I have dozens of refrigerator magnets, one from everywhere I've spent the night in the last 12 years. I took one of the ones with a lemur pictured on it (from a safari park) and put it across the opening, so now it looks back at me every time I open the door. (I'm quite short). Observation changes the observed, right? We'll see.
Still thinking about the word for next year - this year's was "BALANCE." Something I've been reaching for all year, and am much nearer obtaining than I have been in a long time, so it was helpful. The one I'm contemplating for next year is HEALING. It seems awfully passive, though, and I'm still thinking about it.
Time to get my underdesk recumbent elliptical going - been doing a few minutes a day, and though it's making the knee ache like stink, the rest of my body appreciates it.
Love y'all,

Inspire Cafe Bella Protein in my coffee this morning. Then off to the eye specialist. He's going to be doing tests to decide what is causing my blurry/cloudy vision. I have both Macular degeneration (retina disease) and Fuch's Dystrophy (cornea disease) so trying to determine which is the culprit at this point to develop a plan as to how to proceed from here. Have a great day
Love you my friends

Janetr--I hope I haven't given away all my biggest pants, but I may have. I'm not above going to the Salvation army to find them again--or a similar pair. It sounds like they're good inspiration to keep around. You look great by the way! Good luck on the eye appointment. Hope they come up with a plan to help your vision.
Karen in VA--I think if we wanted a generator, we'd do solar panels and install batteries. In Texas we have a lot of sun, and where I am the trees don't get very tall. Tesla is doing a solar roof that looks better than the panels. It resists even hail, and you can store the power or sell it back to the power company. If/when we need a new roof that will be a consideration.
Michelle--I love Hibachi grill! It should be easy to make good choices if you limit the rice or noodles, ask them to hold the butter on your portion, and skip the yum-yum sauce.
Beth--I considered "More" for my word. It's just that mentally I equate that with more food, more weight, more calories, and more of me. I guess I should have written "Do more--"
Pip--all your ornaments are darling. Are they glass, or look-alikes? I had several glass ornaments on my tree when my son was a toddler. He couldn't leave that tree alone, and he inevitably knocked the whole thing over and broke most of the glass decorations. Now I buy the kind that can stand up to a fall. My tree looks a bit more homespun and crafty.
Machka--Good luck on the exam! As to making goals amid uncertainty, maybe this is the time to make your goals more about your mindset. Something like: take 20 minutes of time for myself every day. Do something every week that brings me peace or joy.
Terri--I like that word--Onederland.
Heather--You're an inspiration to me. You're 16 years my senior, and your life is so full and well-lived. Getting out and walking, exploring your new neighborhood, touching lives around you, and being present in the day to day is something I'm aching to do myself. My weight and health have been holding me back for so long, so now it's a goal for the new year to reclaim my life.
Lisa in AR--I write too. I still haven't published anything on Amazon, though that's been my plan for years. I keep getting bogged down in the details, and everything I don't know: What name should I use? How can I get a cover I love? How do I format it? Do I need a website? How can I promote it? How do I get it noticed? What about all the technical stuff? I know there are lots of tutorials and informative sites, but it seems to be changing almost daily. It's another one of those goals I'm adding to the new year.
Just looked up 'underdesk recumbent elliptical. That looks like a neat gadget. As a writer, sitting a lot, I bet that helps with workouts.
Allie--Don't be disgusted with yourself! You've been dealing with a lot--and you're still standing! Love yourself enough to put yourself first again.
I need to go do a bit more shopping for Christmas. I'm hosting the whole family, so I want to make sure everyone is included. I'm grateful I can do this. I'm looking forward to seeing my son again. The house is quiet now, since everyone's gone but me.

Ooooohhh!!! How great this would be. My dream is to have an all 'green' house. A few years ago, we toured Garden Atriums of Poquoson, VA and fell in love with them. I'm sure there are many other similar communities & homes in the nation. These sustainable homes have indoor gardens!

Machka, last year I wrote a list called "18 for 2018". The list included a variety of tasks, some huge, some small, some that took all year, some that took an hour. I completed most of them and will carry over the ones I didn't do onto my "19 for 2019" list. One of the items on the list was "lamp repair". For some reason, contacting the man who could fix my lamp was something I dreaded. The list spurred me on to doing it. Another was a clutter cleaning of my sewing box, also something I had resisted doing. Having it on my list, encouraged me to do so I could have the satisfaction of crossing it off the list.
Heather, I applaud your decision to cancel the trip to Spain especially since it was meant to be an alternative to the move. I love hearing about your joy in your new home in Hove.
Lisa, my current favorite refrigerator magnet says "RETIREMENT: The time of life when you spend your children's inheritance."
Allie, the new year is a good time to make a fresh start with new behaviours. Best wishes to you'
Katla, I hope it's not too windy tomorrow. We are planning to take the new passenger only catamaran ferry across Puget Sound to get to Seattle for Jake's cardiology appointment.
I've chosen my word for 2019. I listen to a podcast that talks about "intentional living" and I considered "intentional" as my word but I didn't like the sound of it. In order to be intentional about living, I need to stop and think about things before I do them, so I've chosen "Pause" as my word for 2019.

yeah, it's lenny. i just broke down 3-4 times to kirby. he understands, but there's nothing he can do just listen and hug. i even tried asking him different questions to change the subject and as he's answering me, i could feel my eyes tearing up still. it's just harder when i'm alone. my brain is thinking too much.

Happy Wright Brothers Day!
"By Presidential Proclamation, December 17 is Wright Brothers Day in the United States. [This day] commemorates the first successful flights in a heavier than air, mechanically propelled airplane, made by Orville and Wilbur Wright on December 17, 1903, near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina." There is controversy surrounding whether or not the Wrights were actually the first, but they were pioneers of aviation regardless.
I am sick, sick, sick, which is why I didn't post or track over the weekend. Like laid out on the sofa all day sick. Today is not a lot better and I under normal circumstances I wouldn't be working even though I telecommute, but I have too much stuff to wind up before my team takes off next week so here I am. At the rate I'm going, I'm going to have to ask Philip to pick up some more boxes of issues on his way home! Anyhow, I'm so far behind I had to skim past a few pages to catch up.
Today is also my mother's birthday. Happy birthday Mom. I miss you so much. When you had to leave us, you took the Christmas magic with you.
Whatever you're all doing today, take a little time out to be good to yourself!

Cari - I'm a big fan of Createspace, as they automatically put it up on Amazon as soon as you publish it. As for whether it's under your name or another, pseudonyms ended up being more hassle than they were worth. Easier to just be me. Createspace makes it easy (and free!) to publish. I honestly never even ordered the proof copy of my last book, though I did keep some copies of the first two. I think Heather's gone the traditional route as well as the self-published route.
Pip and Yvonne - many hugs.
Allie - Beating up on yourself simply increases the stress. I swear sometimes, we wouldn't treat a dog or talk to a dog the way we talk to ourselves! But we respond to kindness the same way our pets would, with positive reactions, and modified behavior. Reward your good decisions, food-wise (with anything but food), draw a line under the ones that aren't good for your health, and walk away from them. You are not a bad or disgusting person, you're human, and you can make better, healthier decisions about food. The all-or-nothing thinking is a trap that we've all wandered into at one time or another--"Well, since I ate once piece of pie, I might as well eat the whole thing." Just take it one decision at a time, one meal at a time, one bite at a time. Love you, girl!
Back to the factfinding mission - drowning in a sea of data, and trying to make sense of it all... thank goodness there's a long break between the 21st and the 2nd! If I spend a couple hours each morning plugging away at it, while the rest of my house sleeps, I might have a handle on it all by the new year!
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Cari - I am touched you find me inspirational. I met my DH when I was your age after a lot of years of loneliness, depression, ill health and the rest. It is never too late to claim a new life.
When I was newly married I found I had breast cancer and put on a lot of weight from the chemo. I started to lose it and take more exercise six and a half years ago. It took a long time, but I have kept it off. At 50 I felt 80. At 69 I feel 45.
My best wishes to you.
I tried to cancel the cruise, but the company said, if I booked another cruise in the same year, I could transfer the deposit. They suggested one to the Canaries next Christmas. I ran it through DH , but we decided it didn't solve our financial problem. They won't hold it until 2020. I will cancel finally on Wednesday.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx3 -
Heather, you might take the offered transfer of deposit, and then when it gets closer to that cruise, say mid-November, see if they'll transfer the deposit into 2020. You won't get your deposit back either way, but it gives you the wait time of a nearly a year to see how your finances are then.
Just a thought.

Hello ladies!
I am plowing thru the holidays, and hope to come out the other side mentally sound and in one piece. When there isn't presents, and you don't bake, or visit anyone, is it still Christmas? Yep! A while ago, a bought a box of snowball cookie mix. Well during thanksgiving I had made a chocolate roll cake. My first one ever, so I had taken the powdered sugar.from the cookie mix, and added a packet of hot chocolate mix to it, then powdered the dish towel with it. Well I saved the part I didn't use. So I make my cookies, and added some chocolate chips to the batter. Adapt and adjust right??? Well, then rolling it in the hot chocolate mix/powdered sugar mixture made them look....well awful! Like dirt clods!! So I ate one and threw them away. I tried, and uck they just didn't turn out!!😋.
I haven't heard from youngest Navy son since Nov 19th so it makes me melancholy. I sent him a Christmas box on Dec 3rd, so hopefully he'll get that soon. Husband isn't keen on traveling to Portland to visit family, or middle son. He stated to me we just saw them in Oct. so I am bummed about that. I am not comfortable driving the 5+ hours by myself, plus the fact that I don't want to leave husband home by himself, so that's that. Middle son understood, and so I am not feeling so guilty. My DIL stated in Facebook that she is going home in February! My first thought is isn't she home married to my son? And how does son feel when she posts things like that? I just worry about those two..💗
I am exercising with husband Mondays thru Thurs so that is something. I am being consistent with that.👍. Logging my food not so much. But I am not going hog wild either!
Hugs ladies!💗

Machka - you've been inspirational for me. I just put in an application to an online university here to see about getting my Master's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. Don't know what will come of it, will have to sit down with my husband to look at the overall cost. Also checking with the Veteran's Administration to see if there's any tuition assistance available through them. If I decided to do it, I wouldn't start until March, at the earliest, so there's time to change my mind. Nevertheless, it's worth checking into...
Later, y'all,
