Merry Christmas! Haven't put up a tree for at least 3 years, blamed it on Joe's resistance but truth was I was just too lazy. Really missed it. Mentioned wanting a tree to Joe once or twice the past two weeks, finally asked him where we could put a tree that he wouldn't object to. "Outside on the front deck where you can see it through the window." LOL :noway: can you see my precious memory ornaments out in a winter storm? :noway: Think again! "We could move the table across the dining area to next to the peninsula, and put the tree where the table was. You could see it while you're playing in the kitchen and it might look like two trees, reflecting in the glass slider. Just look at the ceiling and don't get a real big tree." Bingo! Found a lovely 5' noble fir for half price at the local lumber yard. Joe sawed off the end (not enough imho, it's not taking up any water), set it in the stand and brought it in. I started putting lights (the dreaded task) right away. Will add another string and start adding ornaments tomorrow. So much more what I really wanted to do than make the 4 lbs of fudge that was on "the list". And calorie burning instead of otherwise. Win WIN.
Yvonne, thanks for the MIley Cyrus, I laughed out loud! So much better than Eartha Kitt prostituting herself. That having been said, I never thought of "Baby it's cold outside" as predatory, just flirtatious.
Happy birthday Betsy!
Machka "...for some reason this year..." gee, I don't know... could stress cause grey hair?
cari (calories flowing out of broken cookies) and Michele (calories jumping out of cookies stored above the fridge) LOL!

- Let's face it! We are all human.
- Christmas is a time for celebration. We can CHOOSE whether or not to indulge.
- As long as we do so in moderation, there shouldn't be too much damage.
- Indulgence has it's consequences, but they are only temporary.
- Own them, and get back on track.

I also want a quiet, low key Christmas. So much going on.
Speaking of "flipping the script", I saw this yesterday, and knew I had to share it with you. It's by Abdullah Shoaib.
Pretty Ugly
I’m very ugly
So don’t try to convince me that
I am a very beautiful person
Because at the end of the day
I hate myself in every single way
And I’m not going to lie to myself by saying
There is beauty inside of me that matters
So rest assured I will remind myself
That I am a worthless, terrible person
And nothing you say will make me believe
I still deserve love
Because no matter what
I am not good enough to be loved
And I am in no position to believe that
Beauty does exist within me
Because whenever I look in the mirror I always think
Am I as ugly as people say?
(Now read it line by line from the bottom up. Just do it!)

Karen UK - I forgot to mention - Happy Birthday and that jug is a keeper!!! Did she hand-paint that scene on there? I love unique pottery like that. It's very special
Barbie - take care of yourself! Did Jake catch it yet? We are sneezing at our house but no sore throat or other symptoms, must be dust/mold from the firewood. Crossing fingers.
Lanette
Thanks Lanette:- Lucy didn't paint the scene. She printed the picture onto tissue paper and then very cleverly decoupaged it into the jug. She painted the jug and decorated it with twine and shells. It's unique and very special and I love it!
Hope your cold symptoms don't materialise into a cold.
All the best

My daughter-in-law's father passed away yesterday at 78. Congestive heart failure.
Just a couple of weeks ago, he & his wife decided to involve hospice, and a DNR order was written. We are so grateful for this, as he was able to have a peaceful end. He and his wife were taking a nap together, and when she awakened, she realized he wasn't breathing any more.
We had been to see them the day before. He was not coherent, except for one sweet glimmer of lucidity. He flapped his hand towards his wife & with a hint of a smile said, "I think she likes me." So adorable.
He was one terrific man, kind & funny & smart. Beloved by many. A life well lived.

How sad, Karen, but also very lovely. It made me cry.

We attended a Christmas service this morning ... with the first nativity play I've seen in a long time!
And now ... the dying process has begun. Going from brownish grey to ... well, we'll see.
My hair has been going grey since I was in my early 30s, but for some reason this year, it took a decided and quite noticeable step in that direction.
M in Oz
Here it is ... my new two-toned look. I like it ... for one thing, it isn't greyish anymore. I've wanted to do my hair for a while. It's nice to finally have the time!!

Gym, groceries and a bit of cleaning today, I am enjoying making hats on my circle loom. First hat was a bit short but the next one will be the right length—DD loves it already. Fun and easy to make—thanks for the encouragement michelle

Good morning ladies! Happy Sunday! Just finishing my first cup of coffee on my last day of work before my week off! Whooopeeeee! Yesterday was a long day, but a pretty good one with Trentin. We got out for a walk, I bought him a walking stick from the neighbor who makes them (of course it also suffices as a sword), we got legos out when we got home and that kept him busy for pretty much the entire day. Well, legos and swinging that walking stick around like a flying/tumbling ninja in the living room. I gave him a stern "Don't swing it by my decorations!" and let him go. He took breaks to eat and play a board game with me and then we ended the night watching one of the Transformers movies, which he liked because he got to explain everything to me, as I have never seen any of them. lol He will be back with me at 2:30 this afternoon.
This morning I am heading to my inlaws place, they live about 45 minutes away, just for a visit of a couple hours. My mother in law has rallied a bit. She is getting out of bed again, and talking and awake a bit more, but is more confused than before. Anywho...she woke up yesterday and complained about her coffee, (they have been drinking instant for a few years now), so I am bringing them my coffee maker that I don't use and some "real" coffee. Tim was going to go with me, but he is still having a lot of pain from his RA. I really think, that this time, he messed up his back; and THAT is what is causing him so much pain, rather than his RA. Being the usual MAN that he is, he won't go to the doctor until he is completely immobile. SO...he is a grumpier than normal this Christmas. I don't mind leaving the house to visit his mom.
On my way back from visiting them, I will stop at a couple of places for some stocking stuffers. I will get a box of cashews from a local deli (they season and roast them in store), I will pick up some local Cherry Republic treats for our boys, and going to dart into a local chocolatier and get a small box of artisan chocolates for my older son's girlfriend. I got her a scarf also. That is as far as I am going with spending for her. In years past I have filled stockings for his "girlfriend of choice". Those were the days of $50-70 stockings. Until there is more of a solid commitment (ring and wedding date) I am keeping it modest for her. I love this girl, dearly and think she is WONDERFUL for my older son, but we will have to see if this is going to pan out into anything more. She is just a year older than my younger son, has been on her own since she was 18, got a job at a local vet clinic and is now the office manager. She is involved in the community and serves on a few boards for local events. Very vivacious, outgoing, and civic minded. She has definitely pulled our oldest out of his comfort zone (he is a miniature of his father) and is showing him the life of an extrovert/optimist. lol Anyway, we are giving our son some gift cards that I am sure he will use with her.
Felicia- So glad you are putting a tree up. I just put a little (two foot, table top) one in the corner and I REALLY miss the big tree. SO...going to start a Christmas saving envelope for next year, and get the bigger (7 foot) tree.
Pip- So glad Kirby is getting sorted out! Scary stuff and I am sure it had your heart going for a while! Sending love and hugs! Tell Kirby to be a good boy and take all of his electrolytes!
Heather- Looks like the kids enjoyed their day with you! Edie is a doll!
Machka- Your hair looks beautiful!
Welcome to all of the new girls!
Other than the baking I have done for my daycare kids, I haven't done a lot of it for my family, this year. I am down two pounds this month! Yea! I also didn't buy a lot of "goodies" for this week. I did buy some wine and will be picking up some egg nog on Monday. So...I will have to get a few walks in and keep eating my healthier meals, so that I can afford a glass or two in the evening. Ahhhh....the holidays!
Well, I need to get moving because my own personal Grinch is following me around and grumbling about things. He is like this EVERY Christmas. If I were Santa, I would give him coal. To flip this situation, I would suggest putting the coal where the sun doesn't shine and maybe in time I will have a DIAMOND!

Kelly - your comment on the girlfriend reminded me of something my husband told me when I told him I liked our daughter's boyfriend. His comment to me was, "Don't get attached." He was right! Both my daughter and the boyfriend are now happily married to other people, each with one boy and one girl. Oh... and nice flip on the coal.
Pip - glad you've got Kirby home. Impacted bowels are incredibly painful. Hope everything comes out fine (sorry, there's no other way to say it!) .
Quiet morning, got a couple hours of grant work in, just trying to get sorted what the current status is on everything... got a lot of outside work done yesterday, and a project lined up for my sis and the girls if they feel like jumping in while they're here... and if they don't, then we'll just relax and enjoy the only full day that they're here. I think I'll get son and husband to construct some makeshift benches out by the firepit - I have no intentions of letting my good chairs go outside, as they won't get back in overnight, I know this bunch of coconuts.
Time to write out my "Looking Back, Looking Forward" for the year... I've gotten so far away from handwriting, as I'm on the computer all the time, and blogging has taken the place of journaling for me, so these lists of all the good things that happened the last year and all the things I'm looking forward to are the only things I write by hand anymore! I like looking back over the lists from years past... and a long time ago, I decided to "only count the sunny days," like the old inscription on a sundial.
Love y'all!

Kelly That would require a tremendous amount of sphincter tone. Are you sure he's up to the task?
Machka Your hair is so pretty. I'm going to make some guesses at your garden pics: bleeding heart, shallots, cauliflower, and apple. And doggie. How far off am I?
Pip I hope Kirby is farting up a storm this morning. Seriously, I hope his small bowel is much improved. Did you find out why it happened? Adhesions?
My daughter-in-law's nuclear family is very tight-knit and very remarkable. Here is her Facebook post, which I loved:"My Daddy is gone, but oh the celebration of life has already begun. My step daughter has left and that us our last visitor. I've loved seeing everyone, but hosting and catering is very tiring, mainly because I'm such a perfectionist. Today's meal went very well as I chose her favourite things, but she is a very fussy eater. Afterwards we went for a walk along the seafront to the ice cream shop and beyond. As I did my exercises this morning I have raked up a respectable 800 calories in total.
Now to relax.

Barbara: Congrats on the Christmas Tree. It is a wonderful treat in these long dark nights and short days.

Heather: Merry Christmas. I’m glad that you had a pleasant visit with your step daughter.
Our old coffee pot died after long service. We are working on the first coffee from the new pot. Delicious!
My grandkids live so very far away. We won’t be seeing them until sometime next spring. I’ve been struggling with a self-pity party for a while now. I want to see them, but DH won’t fly again so I have to wait until spring when we can drive there. I won’t leave him on his own. The best thing is that I still have him and we still have fun together.

Katla ~ Glad you are enjoying your new coffee pot. We got a 14 cup Cuisinart the last time and have really enjoyed it.
Pip ~ Hoping Kirby will be able to stay home and not return to ER.
Lisa ~ Enjoy your family's visit.
Cooked sausage patties for the first time in the oven today and was really pleased. No splatter at all and since I lined the tray with foil no mess. The last couple of times I tried to fry them on top of the stove, there was grease everywhere. What a mess.
Got to go wrap the few simple presents now. Trying to think of a few nibbles to take to my son's house for Christmas Day. The big present we got them was a combo stove hood/microwave and a combo table tennis/air hockey table for the two children.

Machka, love the hair! Love the photos too, but did experience a few pangs of envy seeing the nice sunshine, the gardens and the beach, so lovely....
Lisa, sounds like you are truly enjoying your time off, so happy for you in your new job and all the perks that have already come with it! Photos of you and Corey look amazing! I know this bunch of coconuts. Made me LOL!
Karen in VA condolences on the loss of your daughter in law's father, so nice that the family can be together remembering the good times while grieving.
Been busy, busy, busy! Had last week all planned out as far as cleaning and baking went, then found out Tues evening that we were invited to a potluck! This was put on by a member of our strata council and she only invited the members of the council, and their spouses too of course. Because we are all of the same mind on a lot of things in regards to the strata, it was a very enjoyable evening, but it did mean that I had to change my plans drastically. It also meant that the bathrooms didn't get done this week. Oh well, I did change towels in our bathroom and the others just don't get used enough to worry too much about it. I have been working all weekend, but will be off til next Friday, so will get caught up on everything in the next few days. Our daughter in laws parents invited us over for Christmas dinner, the kids are coming over to our place on Boxing day, so it would have just been the two of us on Christmas day, which would have been okay, but it will be nice to go out somewhere. Anyway, I offered to make some dessert, which Marie took me up on, she says dessert is not her strong suit so I plan on making some tarts - butter, pumpkin and pecan - and a dessert that hubby likes. There will be 11 people, so most of it will probably get eaten. Actually, I do need to remember that two of those people are just little! Our grandson, who is 2 1/2 and his little cousin who is not quite 2. Oh well, if I bring some home with us, that's okay too, they will just get put out the next day! I'm not planning on making a whole big bunch, too much work to do that.
I don't know how much I will be on here for the next few days, so I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!
May your celebrations be just what you want them to be!
Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Allie: I’m glad that Alfie was welcome in the nursing home.
Pip: Being able to breathe deeply seems like a great sign of improvement. I’m keeping Kirby in my thoughts and wish him a swift recovery. (((HUGS))) for you. Being the care giver can be stressful.
Evelyn: Our guestroom towels don’t get much action, either. They are well used when we have guests, but that isn’t frequent. :noway:
Today I had a great chat with my daughter via txt. We’re looking forward to visitng her next spring. It will be a lengthy RV trip and I hope to see some national monuments along the way. Mt. Rushmore is on my wish list. I hope it isn’t too far out of the way.

Did the Warrior Workout (yoga). The plan for tomorrow is to hold my plank and then take the extremepump class.
Allison – thanks for the update about Kirby. I sure hope he gets better fast.
Our church is having a community dinner on Christmas day. I’m thinking that I may help serve. Hopefully, that’ll get my mind off the fact that no one is here. I don’t want to stay home and I know that Vince does. So what to do???
Katie – what was the door prize?
Pip – Kirby IS amazing. Let’s pray that he doesn’t throw up.
Laura – welcome!
Karen in VA – so sorry about your DIL’s father. He sounds like a truly amazing man
Barbara – well, calories are afraid of heights so they jump right out of the cookies……. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it…..lol
Penny – what a neat poem! Thanks for sharing
NYKaren – So glad you find the loom hats fun to make. Next you’ll have to make a loom scarf. Believe it or not, I think in some ways it’s even easier than a hat. I find that a good project to do at the Green Room since I can put it down, answer the phone, then pick it back up. Then I donate the hats to the soup kitchen.
KJ – LOL getting a diamond!!!
Katla – I, too, will be very sad tomorrow. I’m thinking that I’ll maybe volunteer at the church’s community dinner. Hopefully, that’ll keep my mind busy.
Made a cream cheese chocolate pound cake for Jess to take. I bet she’ll go to VA for New Year’s. I can totally understand her not wanting to be with mom and dad. She gets back from Idaho on the 29th. I won’t tell her there’s cream cheese in it or she wouldn’t eat it. I actually had some cream cheese that I wanted to use up.

Today was the worst I've felt since right after my surgery. I tried to walk the dogs in the morning but between feeling awful and a cold rain, I brought the dogs home after an unusually short walk. I got in bed and stayed there sleeping on and off until 3:30 when I finally got up to drink the orange tea that Jake made for me. I am feeling better now. I am really grateful that I didn't have a zillion holiday preparations to do because I got nothing done today.13
