January 2019 Monthly Running Challenge

I am new to this challenge. I was doing pretty good with running until I developed plantar fasciitis in one foot in November. After babying it and cutting way back on my miles, I am easing back into it. I have a half marathon to run in February, so I hope the injury didn't set me back too bad.
My goal for January is 40 miles.12 -

So for 2019, I am targeting the 50k in May as my "big" race. I hope to knock an HOUR off my time on it. I know I could have run it faster last year. I had some technical difficulties and made a few bad calls during it last year. So I really feel that knocking an hour off is doable. Of course, weather and trail conditions are major factors and they might sink my dreams. Will not know till race morning!
My training plan calls for about 170 miles in Jan. I may have to reduce that pending weather. There are only so many miles I can stand on the dreadmill. Pittsburgh winter weather can be a bit of a gamble!10 -
While scouting around for a 10K to knock out one of my 2019 goals, I found one just 20 minutes from where we keep our boat, and it's only $10! And it includes a shirt! Except for my A races, I normally don't sign up this early, but for that little cost, I can take the risk! It's a small race, only 20 people ran the 10K last year (just 53 ran the 5K), so it's a rare chance to get an top 3 AG finish!14

Got my January plan and it looks like my goal is 115 miles. Let's DO THIS *kitten*!13

I'm sticking with my 70 goal again. It's doable and still gives me time to cycle and lift weights. Although December was a terrible month for cycling... hardly any miles in. .
We are taking a cruise for a week in January. I'm a teacher, and it's odd to miss a week of school for a vacation, but I worked all summer for the school putting in a new database and had not a single day off. I told the principal I need a week off in the 3rd quarter, if I'm to make it through the year! I will probably only run on the treadmill that week - unless I discover that the places we stop have good running options. It's a Windstar cruise and starts in St. Maarten.
It's going to be here so fast, yikes!11 -
This looks like just the motivation I need!
I've run on and off the last few years, but I want to get more consistent and improve on both my 5k and 10k times. I would also like to try running more than 10k. I enjoy running but sometimes have trouble kicking myself out of the house to do it (and I can't run outside in the dark where I live which means winter is a bit of an issue as I can only run at the gym).
So I'll join this with an aim of 20 miles, which seems achievable and a good starting point for me.11 -
Don’t forget teams are still forming, if you are interested in joining a team to run/walk/crawl a cumulative 2019 miles in 2019.
It is through an organization outside of mfp and does require a minimum registration fee of 25$. More if you want swag.
The thread is here:

We need a few more to have 5 teams!4 -
Hundred Mile Club is still a reach for me so starting 2019 there!

Hello!
January will be my first month tracking/participating in a MFP challenge. I am just getting back into running after spending most of 2018 injured. :-(
January 2019 goals:
1. Walk my dog every day (minus the week I'll be in Vegas on vacation)
2. Run 3x a week (again, minus the week I'll be in Vegas on vacation)
3. Total of 60 miles running, walking, & hiking for the month13 -
Welcome @hoshaugh73 and @Squish815 . I’m sure there are others mention by name, you have to forgive me. It’s early and I’m am still cross eyed. Know you are welcome here.
We need a monthly question. I wanted to do brain sex but can not find an acceptable quiz to link. I doubt in my morning stupor that I can muster a relevant question, or any question out side “why did DH drink all my almond milk that I so desperately need for my coffee this morning”? I haven’t got the question, who does?

Brain sex? Is that like reading a really good book? Or something different like ASMR?0 -
Oh @PastorVincent , it’s too early for me to look up asmr and even slightly follow the notion. So, with that I’ll clarify brain sex.
It’s a “is your brain male or female” it not a sex really, more how do you think and what are your strengths. Male is good at guy type stuff, female brain are good at female tasks.
I’m sure I’d score right down the middle. I’m neuter. Maybe more male.... but I wanna test. For fun. It’s still to early for me to be thinking out loud.... sorry.1 -
I'd like to join. I'm really more into cycling, which does not work for Wisconsin winters!
I am post surgery, and may able to start the first week of January. I'll shoot for 25 miles and see if I need to adjust!8 -

ASMR is a "hot new trend" of videos that some people claim creates pleasurable feelings in their mind when they watch/listen. Something akin to the "pleasurable chills when someone gently strokes your neck or plays with your hair" or something like that. I think I am too much of a cave man to follow this one

Ugh. No touchy. I'll pass there.1 -
I would like to try this Challenge...a little intimidating to set my measley goal of 25 miles in January when people on here are running over a hundred....but, oh well....gotta start somewhere.
I recently started running again after quite a while of doing absolutely nothing. I am currently doing interval runs to get into better running condition and I am doing much better. I can run longer distances and at a slightly better time. I would like to be able to run a 5k without stopping, but I think I need a little more time. I don’t think that will be a January goal. 😁
Does anyone use the Garmin Connect app?13 -
@tita0427 welcome! There is absolutely no reason to be intimidated by anyone here. Even those who put up big numbers every month started where you are. 25 miles is a great goal! You'll find we're very supportive of runners of all levels here. I've been on these threads for well over three years and have yet to see any mileage shaming.
I'd guess that most folks here who use a Garmin use the Garmin Connect app, but I don't know if anyone "connects" with each other on that app. There is a Strava group for the members of this thread which you're welcome to join.
@tecat73 welcome to you too! We're practically neighbors. I'm in the Twin Cities. I'm also recovering from surgery and can start running again on January 17th, just 20 more days! I've been sidelined since October 20th. I know a lot of folks who bike in the winter, particularly fatbike riders, but we're glad you found us.
