How’s everyone this evening?
Kylie—the snow keeps missing us, so I’m missing the snow—those hard little ice pellets just don’t cut it! I’m rather tired of the rain every day the last few days.
Unfortunately, since nobody knows how to drive in the rain around here, we were were without internet, TV or phone half of the day because somebody couldn’t negotiate the tight curve and took out a utility pole in the area just beyond our subdivision. We have everything underground but on the very edge of our area it is above ground. That is the one disadvantage of going to school online: when your system is down, you’re out of luck. There were some hopping mad guys around the area, missing the NFL playoff games. I was just hoping it would all come back online pretty quick as I had a test due today.
Michele in NC—sometimes the glasses get buildup from the dishwasher, especially if they’re older. Try cleaning them in CLR or salt water.
Lanette—I’m with you on British TV. Think I’m going to look into Britbox on my Amazon Prime.
Have a lovely day tomorrow.

Happy Monday, getting ready to go for my coffee morning so will check in later - already 4 pages behind, how does that happen?1

Karen in VA and BethCarol I think the restaurant in hove is "etch." - little 'e' with a period after the 'h' - the ones in Sedona and Nashville are "Etch" - capitalized and no "." after the 'h'.
etch. vs Etch
I just re-read that. You might think I've had a stroke, but I haven't.

Machka looks like you've walked/run nearly as far as you've biked? WOW!
Heather surely chasing the grands counts as exercise?
KJ tiny tots trot 15 miles a week? You are an inspiration! Loved the Martin the Martian image.
Lisa " I didn't WANT people to look at me, so I didn't look at them." great insights both yours and Corey's.

Kylia "something to do besides stick to your glassware" Wow that is a B I G front yard!
Kay "would I clean poop off this in order to keep it"   You just may have found the key question to help me let some things go...
Still struggling to get back to SWSY, but "positive procrastination" got me to reconcile IRA statements and file them away within days of receipt. A first!

I have a rare 'free' morning so keeping up with posts. Planning to blitz my hobbies room, and organising my wool stash, after I do my workout session.
Kathy in KY: We don't get much snow in Northern Ireland, but are all experts at driving in the rain! That's why we are called the Emerald Isle, with 40 Shades of Green. I hope your internet settles, and allows you to submit your test on time.

Machka - Congratu-very-lations on completing a half-marathon! And to your husband for completing a 5k! He's made such an incredible recovery. I'd call it miraculous except that it's so clearly the result of lots of hard work and dedication. :flowerforyou:
After your 12-km run a while ago - the one I believe you described as "your longest ever" - I wondered if you felt any after-effects. Judging from your comments above, you do. I know I get sore if I run considerably farther than usual. My joints and muscles don't mind much, but my symphysis is not pleased. :grumble: Recover soon!

I think there is some of the miraculous in there ... the specialists are floored by his recovery. Several different ones have used the word "remarkable". The neurosurgeon my husband saw for his back had not treated him anywhere along the way, but had seen all my husband's scans. So he did not know what kind of patient would be sitting in front of him but based on the scans, he had a certain expectation in mind, and he commented that my husband's recovery was "remarkable" several times ... then when my husband told him he had started cycling again but was only up to 27 km (at that point), the guy just about fell off his chair. He could hardly believe it, and told us that for someone with the damage my husband sustained (categorised as "extremely severe brain injury") to be cycling within the first year of the injury is simply amazing.
That's the sort of reaction we've had all along the way.
So I think there have been a lot of factors at work ... whatever it is, I'm thankful!
My right leg is in quite a bit of pain ... my left leg is a little achy but not bad. I've booked a massage for Wednesday, so I hope that will help. I'm not quite sure what's up with the right leg.
I went from 12 to 14 to 21 ... so that probably didn't impress my right leg at all!

Hi all!
Done my exercising, done my writing! Phew! I really get to not like myself very much if I don't do those two things almost daily.
This afternoon we are walking half an hour to pick up the grandchildren from school and then walk to their house. So we will get in an hour on top with the walk back to the bus.
Actually I've just had a call from the nanny to say that Edie is at home with a temperature (she's fine) so it's just Max to pick up. Much easier for her than having to drag the other two out.
Don’t know what we are doing for dinner, but if none is forthcoming we can try out a Persian restaurant near the bus stop. Looks good on the website. Average prices.
Slept better. Washed my hair. Yeah! The sun is shining.

Drkatiebug ... your decluttering question is a hoot!
Kim from N.California... your frugality is inspirational to this spoiled whiner.
Two weeks into the 19:5 fasting. I've lost 5 to 5-1/2 pounds (scale was bouncing this morning). It is very doable. I see that I will still need to avoid foods that cause me inflammation and make certain that what I do eat is balanced, filling and follows CICO to some degree. The point then of limiting my eating to a 5 hour window is to allow the body's natural fat burning mechanisms to perform and to aide me in controlling my appetite. The experts recommended a 3 week trial, so I will continue until the end of the month and then reassess.

I took one look at my dining room and decided it was more pressing than the hobbies room. All trace of Christmas has now been removed and the table is ready for use again.
I have my Monday Painters Group this afternoon. I'm working on a watercolour of Mew island which is a small rock with a lighthouse on it, off the coast near where I live.

another long busy work week to look forward to (?), I'm a bit ambivalent about work this time of year
Beth sounds like the IF is working, but reassessing int he 3 week trial is a good idea. Nice to get a jumpstart yes?
All signs of the holiday are put away and is time to ramp up my decluttering, mostly the closets but there are work demands keeping me from it right now.
Hitting the gym afterwork will hopefully lift my mood

If you have access to a pool, I found that gentle walking, light jogging in water makes everything feel better after a long run. Also, try walking backwards when going down stairs. It uses different muscles. Be sure to hold on and if people are around, expect odd looks and to need to explain.

Kylia - beautiful setting, but I don’t envy you the clearing tasks. We only have carpet in our bedroom. I am so thankful for that although I didn’t like it when we first moved in.
Allie - I personally have not tried the Keto diet my best friend has though. She list 13 pounds in her first two weeks and then stalled completely. She has since made some small changes mostly in the fat content and has since lost another 10 pounds. She started in April.
Katla - I have a cousin who calls me regularly. For a long time it was venting about her siblings. I have one sibling and we get along rather well. She has 5 and there were major issues when the parents passed. She always reminds me how much I wanted a big family and how lucky I am not to have gotten it.
Katie - I just watched Marie’s show Tidying Up on Netflix. I go through my house on a regular basis getting rid of things so don’t usually have a clutter problem. My eldest daughter has a terrible time with clutter though and has been raving about Marie so I watched in so I could relate to her conversations. I do like the way she folds clothes, I may try that for my drawers. My daughter has just finished the clothes in her house and is starting books this week.
Barbie - we have been so blessed to have a mild winter so far and only a couple of heavy snowfalls. I hope this doesn’t make for a very late spring. We had our first snow of the year on Sept 13th. Sept and Oct were terrible weather wise but since then has not been too bad.
Kim from NC - I need to learn some of your frugal qualities.
My youngest and I designed her wedding invitations yesterday. I have to do the wording yet which will go on the ivory in the middle, that part lifts up and will have a pocket underneath to hold the RSVP, reception information and map. I need to find a better place to buy the lace as this was from Michael’s and quite pricy.
Tracey in Edmonton5 -
Gorgeous, Tracey! I looked at all three images. I don't know if you're trying to choose one or intend to use all three. Just in case you're trying to choose, I'll say my piece.
I love the look of the key, but I couldn't figure out what it was supposed to signify. I racked my brain for a while but didn't come up with anything. (I'm a simple soul. )
The single heart looked a bit lonely.
I say go for the double hearts. I can guess what they mean.

Kim - I think mattress toppers are the best invention ever! Our king sized bed has 2 stacked on top each other and the fitted sheets (mega deep pockets) still aren't deep enough but grab well enough. Just about need a ladder to get up onto it tho, lol.
Beth - 5+ pounds is great! Good job keeping on your plan! Laughed that you already are into "massaging your kale".
Machka - your running is off to a great start! And how wonderful that your DH is stunning the docs with his remarkable biking.
Kelly - great idea getting those kids walking - bet it makes for some good napping for them. Any upcoming visits from Joaquin in the plans? I can see him joining the group.
I planned to head to town early this morning and stock up on some groceries, run errands. But it's 26 out and icy fog. I didn't sleep very well and shoulder achey so I can postpone until tomorrow morning.
I'm scheduled to attend kind of an impromptu Area Agency on Aging luncheon tomorrow to discuss funding for our county senior centers. The gal who arranged it keeps sending emails "plan to stay a bit later for a big surprise" and this morning I get another email from her "wear casual clothes as you might get dirty" ??? And she's so excited about the surprise.
I'm curious what she has planned but don't like surprises unless it involves Publisher's Clearing House. I turned down the chance to carpool to the luncheon site so will have my own wheels and can find an excuse to jet out if the surprise isn't George Clooney, lol. Plus I had plans to zoom home before this surprise was added to the agenda - making DH cabbage rolls which takes some preparation.

Quick post today. Official wi this morning, down 1.6 lbs, very happy with that!
Katla, my new dishwashes takes just over 2 hours to run on the "auto" cycle. It apparently senses how dirty your dishes are and programs itself accordingly. We don't rinse our dishes before they go in there maybe it would make a difference if we did but.... And they do come out sparkling clean! Too bad about your riding lesson, hope your sore muscles don't stay that way for long.
Pip, awwww, Floyd is a sweetie...
Evelyn, Vancouver Island4 -
Kim - Same with us, we were able to purchase an inexpensive innerspring mattress, as we invested in a lovely, thick, mattress topper. And yes, Lanette, I have to have a step-stool at the side of the bed in order to get in.
Machka - I smile every time I see another milestone for you and for your husband. Y'all make an amazing pair, and are truly my best example for "grace under fire," when I mention it. Your presence in his life gives him the best possible chance to regain his own.
Kylia - Haven't commented much, but have been following young Aubrey's progress with pleasure. So happy for your family, and for her. My favorite niece was born at just 25 weeks in the womb--due in November, but born August 17, on my mother's birthday and named after her. She is now an amazing young woman of 21, and it brought back a lot of memories of watching her stand up the first time, take her first steps. The last of her generation in my family, and very possibly the best.
Weight's stalled, bouncing around the 180 mark, which is still 37 pounds better than last year this time, which I keep reminding myself. I've got work to do, but not as much as there was...
Busy week for me, too--hour drive north for a meeting this afternoon, and tomorrow, off to the staff retreat for two days, of which every single minute is booked solid other than some sleeping time. Happy with my progress so far, but much, much more needed, as fast as I can absorb it. I'm pretty fast, but the sheer amount of information is staggering. Luckily, unlike my previous job, where my predecessor died unexpectedly, I have people here to query who know the answers, or know how to help me find them. So it could be worse, and indeed, has been.
Off to the races, my chickens,
Love y'all!
