Did a spinning downloadable workout. The plan for tomorrow is to take the Power Hour class
Barbie – I sure don’t envy you with the mess. But it’ll look fantastic when it’s done
Tracey – my husband is the same as yours. Down here I’m the social butterfly (to an extent). I’m the one who goes to canasta, go to the crochet group, make something for the pot luck, makes all the plans to see people while we’re down here, plan the ceramics trips, he’d sit home all day and watch TV. Guess that’s his way of decompressing. I need people. As far as spending more when shopping all the time – I really don’t, I do find that I buy things that are needed. It used to be that I’d buy all the food, but then we had some left before we left. Now I can plan out the meals to take as little home with us as possible
Allison – get better fast. Will they want you at work being sick, especially since you are in such close contact with the patients?
Klanders – don’t worry, when you retire, you’ll wonder how you ever found time to work
Pip – how do you know when the gym is closed? Do they mention it on the TV? I remember once I went to the Y, things didn’t look all THAT bad, but when I got there they had closed (boo). Had I known, I would have done something at home
It’s rainy here today. I understand it’s sunny in NC. No fair!!! I’m determined NOT to come home with white legs. We’ll probably go to the ceramics place here when the rain lets up and then go to the ceramics place tonight in Orlando. We were going to go to the one in St. Augustine but the lady told me that she won’t have the mold of the thing I was particularly interested in, so that’ll be for the next trip. We’ll meet my cousin in Daytona for lunch and go to Orlando tonight. They’re open tonight and then tomorrow from 9-12. I knew Vince didn’t want to go then. Update: we haven't gone to the place here. We really should in case they need to pour something for us.
Exercised, then went to Aldi. Vince likes their mini wheats and he needed milk. I had to take a good shower (usually I just take a “wash off the sweat” shower) I get so very sweaty when I do spinning. Actually, that is the only time I need to wear my heart rate monitor. My heart rate can go up so much that I really need to be careful. The good thing is that it comes down quite fast, too.
About TV – I don’t watch much at all, usually shows that I’ve recorded. I’ve also found that I like to crochet while I’m watching TV. I do like to do other crafts, but I usually can’t do them while watching TV. Like right now I’m working on a few diamond dotz pictures, and I just can’t do that while watching TV. Maybe I can have the radio on
Got a bigger mug for my tea at the SPCA thrift shop yesterday, but I really was hoping for one bigger. Maybe I’ll make one at ceramics.
Nicole – I can do things at home, but I absolutely need to go to the gym at least for a few classes. I like the motivation and the comraderie. At one time I couldn’t drive and I thought I’d go crazy not being able to go out with friends. Vince is someone who will stay at home for days on end. Not me. So I understand how you feel about needing a class. Ever since meno kicked in I could see more and more in my middle. I don’t see the saddlebags as much, but that might be because the bigger middle doesn’t highlight the saddlebags as much.
Rori – you are an angel from above
Suebdew – wonderful news from the MD
Went to the place in Orlando. Found out that they haven’t been there for 3 years (thank you internet). I really should have given them a call, but they had such limited hours.
We had these Tyson beef strips for dinner. Too spicy for Vince, so guess who'll get to finish them?
Michele in FL where it is raining…no fair!!!

Hi Gals,
Kylia – great news on Aunt and Aubrey!
Welcome to the new ladies…. We are very chatty and some have even met… but truly not click-ie or exclusive. Just jump in – most of us respond when someone or some comment calls us but not to everyone everytime…
Lisa, Heather, Allie, and Rori, glad you are all making progress on feeling better! Someone else said they were doing PT too, but I forget who So to all who have been under the weather, or had surgery feel better quick!
Heather – I had never heard of tortilla Española, and looked up some recipes – one took a CUP! Of oil…. Would you share your recipe? It sounds like a good lunch
I am beginning to catch up on the embroidery, mostly as our weather has been very wet or cold or both so gardening is out… that is good, I like to have stuff to do but not to be running the whole time. I have a spread sheet of thing to get done for me – pre-doing some Christmas and other gifts, but am sliding behind, so the next few days will be doing some of that.
The owner of the camp (that the YMCA ran and that laid me off as the gardener-effective may 31) has a possible company to come in and take over running camp and they want to interview all of the existing employees before committing to taking over. So I’ll be interviewing. I need to update my resume and come up with some questions and a list of things I feel like I can offer. I have read their entire web page and it seems they are interested in locally sourced food, so that could work ok. I’m pretty spoiled and don’t want to come across too spoiled but also don’t want to give up too much. No idea how soon this will happen, but better prepared than not. The weird thing is I was beginning to get ok with the idea of change.
I recently heard a pod cast about personal finance and it is done by a couple of 30somethings and one of their big “take homes” is to have a side hustle – so never never have all your eggs in one basket. So different than I was brought up, where you gave your company everything, but as I worked I should have learned earlier to have a side hustle. I have found in the last few years that multiple streams of income make the ups and downs easier.

DH can't manage, but also doesn't realize he can't. I made him an early evening meal of a stew I had in the freezer, but in the time I wasn't watching him he didn't eat anything, swept the front room floor for about 2 hours, but never took out the overflowing trash, and misplaced the remote to our television. Have I mentioned how much I hate dementia? I'm forcing myself to sit up in the living room today, and making sure he gets meals, coffee, a shower and helps locate the remote! The shows we watch are local sports and news, but it's on alot with CNN or Smithsonian channel in the background.

I can sympathise.
My grandfather went through dementia, and now my husband's recovery from TBI has been very much like dementia.
A couple months ago we were to have a house inspection by the rental agency. I asked if he could clean the house while I was at work. He spent all day long scrubbing at a couple spots on the bathroom floor that have discoloured, and was in tears when I got home because he wasn't successful at returning those spots to their normal colour.
Meanwhile I was so frustrated because I had an assignment due which I was hoping to work on that evening, but instead, I had to vacuum, dust, wash floors, clean the rest of the bathroom etc. while he followed me around saying, "I didn't know this is what you meant". I felt like crying and yelling at the same time. So I just cleaned.
I also spend a portion of each day looking for things he can't find. We're still missing one thing. He took it out to have a look at it, and ......... I've no idea at all where it might be. It could be anywhere.
On the one hand, my heart breaks for him because he used to be on top of everything, and he kind of remembers that. On the other hand, it can be very frustrating and my patience has been tested like never before in my life!cityjaneLondon wrote: »Machka - I can't imagine how difficult it must be not having your husband and best friend not entirely present with you. It can be very lonely. We used to be able to talk about everything in some depth ... that was one of the foundations of our relationship. Now, we can't. I have to avoid certain topics all together, and with others I have to be very careful not to include any slang, metaphors, puns, etc.
I just keep hoping it will get better ... and it is better than it was several months ago.

A neighbor was just notified by the sheriff that some of her mail was found behind an auto shop in the next town. Most was junk mail but thieves had torn off the account number from her bank statement. She's alerted the bank, but may have to change account numbers for all the autopayments.
I've always preferred paper statements, but re-thinking my position... Might be easier to get a locking mailbox.
Machka Wish I could do your paperwork for you. Somewhere along the line I developed a taste for it. Now I'm trying to develop a taste for de-cluttering but it's not working... ;} Hearing about your husband's tears reminds me how difficult your life has become. (((hugs)))
Heather "French in another life" vraiment! Not me, tho', probably Italian
NYKaren how I wish there was an Ikea store nearby! We are 45 minutes from the nearest Home Depot and 3.5 hrs from the nearest Lowe's. Ditto your comment about needing structure. Fortunately in retirement I've been able to get some needed structure (and social connection) from scheduled activity classes, T'ai Chi two mornings a week, Line dancing two evenings a week, Dog group two afternoons a week (weather permitting.) Rounded out with weekly church and monthly fire district meetings and it's just enough for me, tho' too much for Joe. He'd like me to stay home with him and the dogs. While I think he watches too much TV, he's sure I spend too much time on the computer. It's true. Dadgummit next time he asks me to join him and the dogs outside, I'll do it no matter how tired I feel!
SueBdew, yes it's possible to get toxic levels of vitamin D https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/vitamin-d-toxicity/faq-20058108 Con GRATS on the "keep doing what your doing" physical. Well done!

Margaret and Evelyn beautiful snow pics!
Lanette would some oat bran on top of the casserole (like a breadcrumb topping) taste nutty good and add some fiber?
Barbie looking forward to pic of your custom cabinet installed. Exciting! But oh the chaos you have to go through to get there...
Sue in WA we have a hand crank/solar charger for cell phones in case of extended outage. Haven't had to use it yet, but it gives me a sense of security
pip GYM closed for 3 days in a row? Give 'em your BOOT! Brr for the bike on snowy road and Grrr to hanging out for hours at the train station because the gym is closed.
Tracey warmed up to -20? :noway:
Lisa 13 hrs of work and two PT sessions in one day, less than a week from your surgery? You are a powerhouse!
Kylia thankful for the news about your auntie and really delighted to hear of Aubrey and her great grand dad.
Yvonne, how did that lizard get in there?
Okie Hooray for the scale moving down. "...not a bad thing at all..." indeed!
Betsy both Katla's and my broken wrists salute your wise decision to put walking off 'til the ice melts.
Nichole so glad your vertigo is gone. Enjoy your gym classes! If Zumba is offered, its a real calorie burner and well as a laugh riot!
Carol are you looking in my mirror? Hate it! More on this another day.
Rori Big hugs right back atcha, held extra long. Remind me how you injured your hand? Still smiling? Brava!
allie good luck on your phsyical!

Did my physio exercises for my back/hip/leg.
Didn't like any of them except one ... a hot water bottle at my back. That I like!
The others tired me out much more than expected, hurt, and made me feel slightly nauseated. I hate being so out of shape.
Machka in Oz3 -
Kim - I don't make the entirely authentic version as I parboil the potatoes first. That means I don't need quite so much olive oil to cook them, but it should really taste of olive oil. It is not slimming. I am quite anal about my recipes as I don't like them fiddled with, so I only use onions and potatoes as in Spain. I don't flip it either, just grill the top which is not authentic.
Normally in Spain it is served as part of a tapas, in that you buy a slice like a cake. We had a third each for dinner with green beans, garlic and tomatoes, and I'm about to eat my final sixth for lunch before I dash off for my dance class.
DH got me a lovely big book for Valentine's Day. A History of Interior Design. Really looking forward to browsing through it. I spend a lot of time reading design magazines on my tablet. Unfortunately I don't have any money to actually implement any of my ideas. I may win the lottery, who knows!
The man is here to mend the shed. DH is paying for it, thank goodness. I'm so glad he is not clambering around up there himself. He is also putting new wood around the bottom where it's rotted.
Glad I can make it to my dance class . I went to one and then missed three. I hope I haven’t missed too much.

Happy Valentine's Day, my friends...
Machka - my sympathies... There are certain physio exercises for my knee where I'm swallowing back my nausea, and I dread them. And then the therapist measures yesterday, and I've moved from a 45 - degree flex of my left knee when I left the hospital to an 87 - degree flex one week later. So, I keep doing them, and I just keep swallowing it back. Every bit of pain builds your strength, and every time you do them you get incrementally stronger. It doesn't make it any less nauseating, but if you can measure your progress, it gives you some incentive to go back and do it again.
Incidentally (or not), I also found out yesterday that, in order to walk down stairs "normally," it can require as much as a 130-degree bend of your knee. I've got a ways to go - but I will get there. The therapist told me yesterday that some of her "little old ladies," simply give up on the exercises and end up back in surgery to break up the scar tissue. Gives me even more motivation to keep going. So I will.
Got a presentation written this morning, and three grants to write today and tomorrow. I'll be presenting to a panel on Tuesday, trying to win a $50,000 grant. In front of my bosses boss. No pressure!
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR9 -
I know I'm going to love my new cabinet when it's finished but with the handyman coming back again for day three, I'm beginning to be concerned about what we're going to owe him for the job. I'm doing a lot of planning about how I'm going to rearrange things in the kitchen to make the best use of all the shelves and cupboards.
The snow is melted and cleared on the street in front of my house but the temp is below freezing so now it's too icy for walking. The dogs couldn't understand why we had to stay in the snowy yard instead of going for a real walk. It will get warmer during the day so we should be able to walk later in the morning and early in the afternoon.
Heather, your yard and shed are wonderful.
Rori, your patience with your husband is inspiring
Machka, Your challenges sound like more than a person should have to deal with. I admire the way you keep showing and also stay active to look after yourself.
Barbara, my husband is like yours and would like me to be home with him all the time. I'm gone two mornings a week for line dance and two hours every morning walking the dogs. I am not very social so that's enough for me.

Happy Valentine's Day!
To all of you ladies in the grips of snow for weeks/months at a time, a big hats off for staying on your exercise and eating plans. Heck, for even THINKING about staying on an exercise and eating plan!! Looks like our road is finally clear of snow and slush. I plan to bundle up shortly and get a walk in. Haven't done my SWSY in 2 weeks now and also haven't done my shoulder exercises.
Lisa - thank you for mentioning about PT and breaking up scar tissue. I really need to get after the rope and pulley today to do just that. Nausea included. When the therapist released me a few weeks ago, she said if I'm not progressing, let the doc know and come back to see her. Sigh. You keep on keeping on and good job on the grants!
Pip - prepare BOOT I need it to get back on all kinds of tracks, lol.
Rori & Machka - (((HUGS)))
Interesting story in the new Reader's Digest about how just plain old reading really does great things for our brains, perhaps more so than trendy "brain games". The article cited benefits of reading "deep" literature of the Jane Austin genre and how it increases circulation to the brain more than leisurely reading. But, it appears any reading is better than none. I think of my elderly friends and grandparents who stayed sharp in their later years. They always were in the middle of a book or magazine.
So it appears that my dead laptop battery is a blessing in disguise.
Suebdew, your book club comes to mind. Reading and discussing what you've read has to be powerful.
Tracey - hope you get that job! Dream come true!!
Heather - what a lovely and private back yard! Look at the solar panels on some of those roofs.
Ok ladies, I gotta get cracking and find some good books to read! Make love to my brain, lol....

We love our back garden (yard). It is hard to find such a large one in the city. The two other houses we wanted to buy had much smalker gardens. On the ground floor we are very private and will be more so when the trees are in leaf. That photo was taken from our bedroom window. We have so much wild life to look at from our dining room. Birds galore, tweeting like maniacs.
On the way to the dance class I chatted on the bus with a very nice woman who lives in an apartment on the sea front and has a villa in Spain. I may have persuaded her to come to the Swing class.
The dance class was great. The guy who teaches it made the warm up exercises feel more like real dancing and he played marvellous music. I had to break into a threesome for the creative part, because I had missed three weeks, but they were very accepting and understanding. Next week is a break because of half term.
We've had our blinis and a glass of champagne and now we are waiting for our skate tonight.
The shed man did a great job and we have a totally renewed shed. A new one would have cost us four times as much. He came from the handyman company that we used before. What a great idea for a business.
Haven't heard from Karen or Kelly.

Lanette - I think the Internet is better than tv, it at least engages us for a bit and we can have conversations at least. Our tv is on a lot for background noise but if I’m the one trying to fill the void it’s almost always music.
Nicole - what did the chiropractor fix to relieve dizzy spells, my daughter is struggling and her doctor just keeps saying to take a decongestant. She swears that’s not what is causing it. My weight is in my belly too, it’s not a nice look.
Rori - hope you feel better soon. Dementia is a terrible disease. I just loathe it.
Katla - how lovely to get that call from your son in law, if my sons in law call me I fear something is wrong as it is so out of the ordinary. I was hoping to have a closer relationship with them than I do. They are both good men, but I don’t feel close to them. My Dad had a relationship with my Mom’s parents that I yearn for. He visited them several times a day and called them Mother and Father, my Mom called them Mama and Daddy.
Okie - hope your pants loosen quickly for you. I never thought about the weight in a board at the hospital that would be good incentive for me as well.
Allie - 30 day hold on direct deposit is insane. Happy you are feeling a bit better.
Michele - I was in Daytona one time for Speed Week leading up the the Daytona 500 do you and Vince go to any of the activities for it?
I used to “watch” tv while I scrapbooked. I would put on shows like 20/20 or true crime shows with a narrator. Lots of times I would not notice the show had ended and would end up listening to an infomercial. This is how my FIL received a HeeHaw DVD Set for Christmas one year. My Brother got a Rock n Roll Hall of Fame DVD Set and I have The CMA live DVD Set all from Time Life.
Kim - I like that idea of a side hustle, I do at Christmas time with our ornaments but need something for other times of the year.
Barbara- I think thieves will find a way around everything. Hack your computer or break into your mailbox. It’s a shame really. I had a little chuckle at your comment to Michele about tanning. She sure moves!
My husband understands my need for social and never complains if I go, but I feel guilty so don’t go often.
Lisa - that seems like an incredible degree change to me. Good work! Good luck on the presentation.
Heather - I love reading how much you are enjoying your new home. My Dad was a handyman. He had a full time job but after hours and weekends he was always gone to fix it build something for others. He was a licensed electrician and carpenter and could do plumbing but refused to do toilets. At the viewings before his funeral my Brother and I heard story after story of what my dad did for people. It was his side hustle as Kim mentioned.
Kelly - I have been thinking about the bookshelf gift I made for my daughter and how you would like one. I would love to cut another one and try it again, but have no real use for it. If I cut one and mailed it to you I could tell you how to transfer it onto a frame. I would just need a colour you would prefer and a quote you would like.
My husband was able to get the battery installed in the car yesterday and it is working again! I’m so thankful! I took it over and had an oil change and had them install a new headlight. Hubby could have done that as well but it’s still so cold I thought I would give him a break.
Today he is going to be a male model for our daughters exam. He will be getting a cut and colour. I think he’s secretly a little excited for it.
I have posted more items for sale on Marketplace to help with some of the expenses we have had this week. Hopefully it all sells fast!
I love rearranging and moving furniture and the layout of this house does not allow me to do it at all. I think I may renew some of the wall hangings to give myself a little change. No have to think about this.
Off to go work on more invitations. I have about 40 left to print, then I will be ready to assemble with the girls on Sunday. I just need some info to finish the other printing.

Machka: Hot water bottles are awesome! I’m sorry that you’re hurting. :flowerforyou:
Heather: Your shed looks like it could be a lovely play house for children and/or grown up children. The yard is wonderful.
Okie & Allie: Happy Valentine’s Day to you both!
I’m planning to go to yoga today and tomorrow. I hope to have enough energy to go out to the stable the weekend. I’ve been in a very low energy mode for several weeks and I’m tired of being tired.
Happy Valentine’s Day to all!

Happy Valentine's day! My DH got me a dozen purple roses. I was so surprised and happy. Hope everyone is having a safe and happy day.
This weather is about putting me over the edge. Been so cold and yesterday it was 53 and today the high is 19 with lots of wind. Tonight we are to get up to 3 inches of snow. I work all weekend so long as I can get back and forth I will be ok. But sure looking forward to Spring.
Went to doctor last week for my 6 month checkup and he said my labs were good and he scheduled my colonoscopy for March 7. I am do thrilled. I have to have them every 5 years because of family history.
Blessings to everyone and Keep taking it one day at a time. Thanks for sharing you lives.

It was the strangest thing, but it's called Cold Laser Therapy. Basically what was explained to me, was my scar tissue COULD be the culprit. I had a c-section 30 years ago, and a tubal ligation 25 years ago. I figured, what can it hurt?? Very NON invasive.....he just went back and forth for a few minutes over my scars with a laser. I know, sounds very wonky....I was a skeptic, but not anymore!!!!
My true test was last night at my exercise class. I had been having trouble on and off for a few years, mostly when I would need to go down on the mat for say ab exercises, I would get sick to my stomach. As soon as I sat up though, it went away. Nobody knew why. Well last night it DID NOT HAPPEN!! I was so so so happy. Maybe there is hope for this big ole belly after all
Happy day ladies
