Happy Valentine's Day all!
We are snowed in for yet another day. Sun is shining so hopefully some more of it will melt. Had to have VW towed to shop as DD took it to work yesterday and got stuck. In getting it out a shield was broken on the under side and fluid was leaking from it. DD and I managed to get the truck dug out so she took it to work. I am so ready to be done with this snow and get back to our regular routine.

Tracey - Have a look at this video on YouTube.
Epley Manoeuvre: Performed on a real patient suffering from vertigo.
It's two doctors curing a woman patient of dizziness. I watched the video several times and performed the manoeuvre on my DH on the end of our bed. He was suffering from overwhelming dizziness. The first time I did it he was completely cured! He did find the initial lie down extremely scary and tried to get up as he was frightened, but I persevered and made him go through with it. It is a miracle.
It can't do any harm. Watch the video together several times and copy it absolutely. I have heard of many people that this has worked for.

DH and I went to a concert where the singer sang tunes from the 20's to the 70's . We both enjoyed it and the DS and I went to see Lego Movie II. We both enjoyed it. It does have some good jokes in it.
Overall a very nice Valentine's Day!

Barbara - the eye surgery is for ocular hypertension. medication isn't working well enough. but it sounds like a very simple procedure, so here's hoping! good luck on your remodels. we've done so many, including a new roof, too!
Yvonne - thanks for the support re: eye surgery.
Katia - There are a lot of Ontarios! I'm in Ontario Canada.
Michele - the eye surgery is to reduce pressure. I'm having it in two weeks!
grandmallie - feel better soon!
Rori - *hugs* dementia is very difficult as a caregiver.
Lanette - I just started reading fiction again after a very long break and I'm totally enjoying it. I was reading an article about how reading fiction helps us be more compassionate, and I was really needing that!
I cleared off the back deck in 10 minute increments today. the snow from the roof we compacted like ice. ugh! but it was mostly nice and partly sunny day, so that was good! And I finally watched the documentary about Mr. Rogers today, which had me crying more than once.. but crying is good for the soul.
Have a good evening, everyone!

Well, I am down offmy hill for the day. I'm not at all sure how I'm getting back up. My rhwumatologist renewed all my Rx for arthritis and fibromyalgia, and I got started with my physical therapist on a program to build strength and balance as I lose weight. I have very little cardiovascular energy right now, so we're working on that by increasing steps.
Rori, Machka, Heather, Sue, and all the rest of you who have spouses who are ill or recovering from illness, I wish you the best. It's difficult to care for a partner physically while retaining the are we have for them emotionally. Have a happy Valentine's Day in whatever way you can.

We passed on all the traditional Valentine's Day stuff and instead we bought a rotisserie roasted chicken for our main meal and Jake took me to the store to buy Yaktrax so I can walk the dogs on the icy roads. A much better choice than flowers, candy, or restaurant meals.
The roads are clear enough that I was able to make the decision to teach my line dance class tomorrow. Some people won't be able to get there because they are still snowed in, but many of them have let me know that they are happy that we'll have class. Schools were closed here again today.
The new pantry cupboard is finished and now it's time for the "loving discussion" about what goes on each shelf.

Happy International Book Giving Day (and happy Valentine's Day)!
April - Way to go with taking the stairs! (I'm sure that's angels you're hearing!) Those small changes can add up fast.
Barbie - What a mess... I'll bet you're anxious to have those cabinets done!
Machka - I can identify with you on the paperwork. It's not any fun even when you're not dealing with grief and loss and uncertainty. I've been procrastinating, so I have to spend my day off tomorrow getting papers sorted out and ready for the tax accountant. Yuck.
Tracey - Crossing my fingers that dream call will happen for you!
Nicole - So glad to hear your chiropractor was able to fix your vertigo!
Okie - I'm only just now starting to see a difference in my clothes. It'll probably take another 5-10 pounds before I'm down a size, but I do have to use a belt now to keep my jeans up. I'll take it!
Kim - Good luck with your interview! Hope the company that is taking over turns out to be a good one. About personal finance... I think younger people really do need to have some kind of "side hustle," or at least get in the habit of continually evaluating their options, because companies don't value long-time employees anymore. When the company isn't loyal to its employees, there's no reason for the employees to trust their futures to just one job.
Barbara - No idea how the lizard got in, but we live in an old house and some of the doors don't fit as tightly as modern ones. We have a lot of anoles that hang out in the bushes around the house. It was probably looking for a warm spot!
Yesterday our local microbrewery had a release party for their limited edition Valentine's beer, a strawberry chocolate stout. It was delicious, and I walked there and back with Luna to make up for the pint I knew I'd have. Knowing I can make choices like that and still keep up with my goals makes me feel like what I'm doing is sustainable.
Philip and I didn't do anything for Valentine's Day. That's kind of boring, but maybe we'll do something this weekend instead.

I had another physiotherapy appointment about my hip Wed afternoon, and she gave me a bunch of exercises to do. There appears to be several issues having to do with tendons, cartilage, and my back. She also referred me to a Sport Dr and told me that it would be a few weeks before I'd get in to see one.
Yesterday, I got a phone call that I could come in this morning and see a Sports Dr. That was quick!! He did a whole bunch of tests and he has diagnosed me with greater trochanteric pain syndrome and right lumbar facet joint inflammation in my back. I'm on strong anti-inflammatories to settle the inflammation, plus a set of easier exercises than my physio prescribed. I'm not up to that level yet, which might have been why I struggled with them yesterday. I can also cycle lightly and walk with a short gait.
I'm to go back to my physio next week, and then see him (Sports Dr) again in about 5 weeks.

Took the Power Hour class. The plan for tomorrow is to do Jari Love’s Ripped to the Core DVD
Barbara – that is so sad (and a pain) for your friend. About my white legs getting tan….down here I am only in the sun for an hour. I know that I’m prone to burning, and that I DO NOT want. I’d rather take it slow. Also, that gives me the chance to do other things, too. Sorry about your sick Wii. I know that I don’t know what I’d do if mine gave out. Probably get a newer model. I have an older one and I won’t spend the $$ for a few extra games. Unfortunately, they aren’t compatible with the older Wii (what else is new?)
Happy Valentine’s Day! You all are such loves you deserve a big hug on Valentine’s Day (and every day)
Off to buy the newspaper then go to the gym before the class
Exercised – walked on the treadmill before taking the class, then we went to donate the old TV to the SPCA thrift store, bought gas, went to the ceramics place here but I need to go tomorrow when the owner is there, went bowling, then to WalMart. Canasta tonight. I tell you, I’m not a sweater (someone who sweats a lot) but this class has me sweating.
Tracey – we do go to the NASCAR race on Saturday. Well, Vince goes to the race. I go shopping in the mall across the street. But on Sunday the mall is usually closed so I do go to the race. It’s pretty cool today and breezy, the pool wasn’t opened until late in the day. So looks like I might have to deal with not-quite-tan legs. Well, hopefully, next week it’ll be nice.
Vicki – great new about your labs, but not so great news about the colonoscopy. Well, it’ll be over before you know it
Allie – great news from the MD
Played canasta. I prefer playing here than with the Newcomers. Some of the people at Newcomers are just so intense that it’s not fun to me. Here it’s more relaxed, or so it seems to me. I guess there are some people who are intense.

Oh, I can also work on very, very, very gently stretching my hamstrings ... and doing some upper body weights.
My hamstrings are incredibly tight. During so-called "toe touches" I can touch my knees. So that might be a contributing factor. But I can't leap into most hamstring stretches because I'll damage my hamstrings.
Of this list, I can do Numbers 5 and 6, just ... and I don't imagine for one minute that Number 1 will ever be possible.

Machka Of this list, I can do Numbers 5 and 6, just ... and I don't imagine for one minute that Number 1 will ever be possible. Number 1 could be quite easy, you don't need to get your leg straight right off the bat. I would actually recommend starting with a towel or something as is shown in the second stretch, and then just go gently til you can feel the stretch. I realize that because your hamstrings are so tight, that won't be very far, but as with anything else, you have to work up to it. Your first bike ride wasn't 100 k, right?
Reading all posts, thinking good thoughts for all of you.
Getting really tired of winter, I know it's only been a few days, but I'm done. Was very happy that I didn't have to work the past few days, so no urgency to get out. I did have a few appointments, but the roads were clear enough to get out for them. It also only took a few hours for the one on Wed, and today I think we were back home in about an hour! Did some grocery shopping on Wed too, so that was good. Picked up hubby's prescriptions today. That man is getting expensive! lol (good thing he's cute!)
Got the bargain of the century, in my book anyway. Have been looking for bar stools for our kitchen, we have the eat at counter, or it would be if I got some of the stuff off it! But, as I said, I've been looking and couldn't find what I wanted. Apparently nobody makes them anymore. I wanted wooden ones, with backs, sort of like a captains chair, swivel of course. I was at work (I work at a storage facility) and there was a woman there who was doing some organizing and she had a couple of that type of chair outside her locker! I made a comment about just what I was looking for, she said they were her son's so she couldn't sell them. I kind of forgot about it, I was busy, but then when she was leaving, I happened to be out on the lot and she gave me her phone number and said if I really wanted them to give her a call and we could set something up. She only wanted $50 for 4 chairs! Came home, mentioned it to hubby, he says "so did you buy them?", well no, wanted to talk to him first. Well, I called and then got together with her on Saturday, the chairs are in pretty good shape, but we are going to sand them down and refinish them. They are a little scratched and need a good cleaning, well, if they get sanded, they won't need cleaning! lol Then we will stain them to match the cupboards. Makes me happy! On that note, off to shower and bed. Work tomorrow.
Hugs to those who need them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

I feel the stretch if I were to lie on my back and raise my leg about 6 inches off the ground.
But you're right ... small steps. And so I've started doing Number 5, and even with that one, I just have to sit on the edge of the chair and raise my toes, without leaning forward, to get a stretch.

Machka - I know you are incredibly busy already, but it looks as if an easy yoga class would really help you. I am sorry your body is so stiff. Is there any reason for that? I am nearly 70 and do that kind of exercise every day with ease. Years of easy yoga.

I'm a long distance cyclist ... we're notorious for having shortened hamstrings.
Also, I've never been able to touch my toes or anything like that ... not even when I was a small child. I remember trying to do it in Grade 1, and being one of the few in class who couldn't.
Quite a number of years ago, I took a yoga class each winter for two winters with an excellent instructor. She knew all about cycling and the shortened hamstring thing, and really helped me. With her, I came the closest I've ever come to being able to touch my toes and be a little bit flexible.
But then I moved and moved and moved ... and got busier ...
There was a time soon after we moved here that I thought about taking a class at lunch, but the class was held in a shop front with a big window looking out on a busy footpath. Those of us walking past could see everything ... and I was just too intimidated by that.

Hi
I had a lovely day out in London. Went with a group of ladies I'm getting to know and one good friend - a nice surprise we were booked in first class on the train going down to London and had breakfast provided. Pity as I'd had a rushed slice of toast whilst getting ready!! But it was nice to have a cup of tea and a yogurt.
The Dior exhibition was interesting, we were amazed at how small the waists were in the 30s and 40s. Some of the dress designs would not look out of place nowadays, but some of them were a bit outlandish and obviously just for the cat walk and not for "normal" people. We saw dresses worn by film stars at premiers/award ceremonies etc
We had a bite to eat and then on for a tour of the Royal Albert Hall. The monument to Prince Albert across the road from the Hall is amazing, all gold and shining in the sunlight. Our tour guide showed us around, we had a look in the Royal Box where the Queen and royalty sit. He explained that they change the chairs and decorate it etc when the Queen is there. We were lucky enough to see Cirque de Solei rehearsing and spent a bit of time watching them. I really enjoyed it.
We went on the underground (tube) to Covent Garden. What an experience that was the train was full so we stood in the aisle and when it stopped at another station I thought no one can fit in here, but half a dozen people squeezed on and same at the next station! Talk about up close and personal.
We had a lovely meal at the Palm Court or something and then back to the underground to get to the station, our train was delayed a little, we eventually got back to York around 10:30 p.m. I was ready for bed
I would love to go again and see a bit more of London, we didn't have a lot of time as by the time we'd finished at the Dior exhibition it was time to travel to the Royal Albert Hall. I'd have liked to have taken some more photographs but the girl who organised it all was marching off ahead and we were frightened we'd lose her as we had no idea where we were going.
Best get ready, I'm looking after my dad today whilst mum goes shopping. She didn't sound in the best of moods when she called earlier.

Heather thanks for letting me know your meal times and approx. calories allocated.
You have also given me a few ideas, now I have retired I'm going to try and ease off the ready meals and cook from scratch using frozen veggies etc. I must admit the ready meals are mainly for my son when he come home from work late at night, but I could leave him something in the instant pot instead. Healthier for both of us!

So glad you had a lovely time in London, Viv. The tube can be horrific at peak times, even for Londoners like me. I try to avoid rush hours. You had good weather for your day out.
With regard to all round exercise. It is very important to 'cross train' and not just do one thing all the time. Some cardiovascular, some strength training and some flexibility. I do all three every day, but I should think three times a week would be sufficient. My son 'overtrained' for his half marathon and strained his Achilles tendon. His sports therapist told him to vary his training, so he is now doing swimming and coming to our house to use the elliptical. He also has a PT for stretching etc. Just running three or four times a week wasn't working for his body.
I do my machines for cardio, mat work for pilates/yoga flexibilty and body weight strength, plus weights for strength. The last two are done on my bedroom on a yoga mat, so you don't need much space to make a huge difference.
Yesterday's dancing has made my calves a bit stiff and I can still feel my knee from Tuesday's Swing dancing, but I hope I am up to my first "run" (jog/shuffle) in three weeks this afternoon. The weather is glorious!
This morning I am going to the dentist.

Good morning all! Happy Friday! I have been reading posts, but have just been too busy/tired to comment. Shoveling was my workout for a few mornings and that always sets me behind schedule. I've had a couple of "snags" that I have had to handle. One is with my new family in the evenings. I have had those two brothers for a month now and the mama still hasn't submitted her paperwork to the state for assistance. At our initial meeting,I told her I would wait for payment until we found out if she was approved (which is what I do for all of my financially strapped families). Well, I am more than a little pissed, and told her last night that beginning Monday she will need to show proof of paperwork submission or she needs to pay in full at the beginning of the week. She was very apologetic and I know she is busy, but paying some one you depend on is something for which you find the time. Second "snag" was with my DH, Tim. I wish I were as kind and understanding and sympathetic as you ladies are with your disabled husbands; but I have had it. I told him that #1 The constant complaining about all of his health issues has got to stop. Because he is unwilling to take any advice or even go see another doctor; I do NOT want to hear any of it anymore. Suck it up, Buttercup. #2 The paranoia about me not loving him or being in love with him anymore has got to stop. The lack of intimacy lately has everything to do with the fact that I am so freaking tired and the fact that his complaining is NOT a turn on. #3 I told him that he either has to get a job (any job) or apply and get disability, because I might be able to do these long hours for a year or two; but that is my limit.
Okay, vent over. I imagine this ^ was also what was preventing me from posting this week. Got a little case of feeling sorry for myself.
Lisa- I was stunned with your knee surgery picture! ( I love medical stuff and don't find it gory) It is amazing after so much trauma that your knee is responding and recovering! Good luck with your presentation!
Heather- I wasn't aware that you do yoga every day. How long do you do it? Do you think 15 minutes would be enough time, if one did it daily? I have a basic yoga dvd and have been thinking about trying it again. My flexibility is in the toilet, right now. I used to be very flexible, up until two or three years ago, and now my body is in "statue" mode.
Cross-training- When I ran, I also biked and swam two -three times a week. (I was able to fit both the biking and swimming in, only because I biked to and from the pool.) The swimming really helped keep things stretched out, strong, and limber; not to mention the cardio benefits from doing laps in the pool.
Tracey- Wow! Thank you for your kind offer on the book deco! Let me go back and find the picture you posted and I will let you know about the details. I was just thinking about seeing if our library has a Cricut I could check out and mess around with. I have never used one before.
Rori- Sending all of my love to you! I only have to deal with medicine induced memory issues. I am sure I would not handle dementia with the grace that you have shown. (((hugs)))
Sending love to all of the rest. I have run out of time again! Grateful today that it is FRIDAY! I work the weekend; but much shorter hours. Relief! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)9 -
Oh Kelly! I can understand your frustration with Tim. I would agree that if someone isn't willing to try to make things better, then they need to stop complaining. Whatever the issue/problem is. Big HUGS to you. I hope he is able to make some changes to release some of the weight on your shoulders.
Unreal weather expected here in the Hill Country today. We are forecast to hit 88 today. Only mid 70's for the highs over the weekend though. I think I will sit on the back porch with my book and read for a while this afternoon to enjoy the weather. I might even put on some shorts and get my legs a little less white
Happy Friday Ladies!

KJ - sooooo glad to hear from you. I was beginning to worry.
I do around 12 mins of the strength and stretch type exercises. I do around 5 minutes of strength. Then I do a short weights routine. I would think that anything is better than nothing. Give it a go.
I totally understand your feelings about your husband. You are entitled to feel angry with him. Seeing a doctor would be a good first step. He is probably depressed.
That is not an excuse.
Love you my friend.

I understand completely. My ex-husband didn't like putting much effort into work while I worked as many as 4 jobs at a time, plus trying to get as much education as I could to get myself into a better place. I was doing hours like you are. I paid for him to get some qualifications and he finally got a decent job which lasted about a month or 6 weeks, when he came home one day, lay down on the sofa, and informed me that he was tired of that job and wasn't going to work again for at least 3 months ... maybe more. I was earning enough for the both of us, and could get more work if we needed more.
I can tell you right now, I was not kind, understanding and sympathetic.
In my current situation, he's had a bad workplace accident, so there's coverage, and he wants to start working again, even a little bit. Meanwhile, he is doing a lot around the house. So it is easier to be kind, understanding and sympathetic.
Good for you for laying it on the line. Sometimes I think they need to hear exactly what we're thinking. I hope he listens. I know you must be exhausted.
