Hi Gals,
Thanks for the info Machka – the instructor is probably in her 50’s – and between her and the management of our city's recreation department, “Senior Citizen” = frail elderly… not!
Glad to hear from many of you that this head thing is just weird! But the glaucoma connection is probably her issue she mentioned last class that she was having some eye problems. I do other stretches/poses when she is just making us hold for too long. I had a talk with my god-daughter who is doing her masters in exercise physiology and she felt that 1 minute was a good work up too, not a starting point.
Have my taxes just about “done” (my part), will hand off to the accountant on Friday. I had a huge discovery last year, if I email all my business stuff and drop off my paper work but no appointment, I save $200 then I can have a free appointment outside of tax time…works for me! Actually last year I had 2-3 appointments trying to be sure some changes I was making would not hurt me tax wise – all free… Love this office!
I was making a recipe for crustless quiche and it called for a few things I did not have, I went to the store and STILL forgot the half and half! GRR well I googled around for a substitute I might have and the suggestion was plain yogurt – it worked great!

Heydehidehoo, ladies!
So we checked out another house on "the strand" of West beach. The house is up on a hill, so come winter it will be awful, but the clear blue skies we saw when we took the your was so nice. Its a 3 bedroom 2 bth, 2000+ sq ft, and $1975 a month. A bit more than we're paying now, but doable. Skylites everywhere an 80's thing. Put in application's and credit checks, plus this realtor doesn't play the "who's got the most money" game. Once our app clears and its all fine, they delete the posting . I'm excited, but nervous!
Had my doc appt, and was put on blood pressure pills. A low dose. Feeling proactive! Currently running 133/78.
Night night all!

Up early and journaling. The days are back and forth from cold to warm, but warmer is winning out. I will start to tackle the back yard this weekend, what a project that is going to be! I will take it one bit at a time and remember to enjoy each little bit of progress.
Work is at it peak right now and will stay that way till beginning June, guess it's kind of like harvest time when you're a teacher, at least I like to see it that way. The spring brings a lot of growth in the young students, not just in height but in skill, never dull that
DD is bringing a crew of DC interns to visit us in NY (they are Californians) up for a weekend in April, about 6 young adults in all for a weekend sightseeing extravaganza. They will mostly hang out in the city to hit all the typical sites but will stay at our house for 2 nights. I offered to make a nice dinner one evening to help defray costs and of course, they are saving on hotel costs. DH and I are introverts, our kid is clearly an extorvert! We will manage, it's good to branch out of your comfort zone, right?

And we did it again tonight!
Wednesday - 6 km
Thursday - 8 km
Plus I've walked and climbed a total of 26 flights of 20 stairs in those two days.
Work has been incredibly busy this week. Long days. Lots of work. In December, a coworker moved to another department ... fortunately not far away ... and his work was plonked down in my lap, so to speak. One of the main things he did was to prepare and submit large and complex quarterly reports ... end of December, end of March, etc. He walked me through the whole convoluted and confusing process in December and most of it went right over my head. I was like a deer in headlights!!
And now, here we are in March. He has been helping me a bit, but it's mostly on me this quarter. So I've been working my way through the process and, as I'm sure you can already guess, the end of March is nigh!!
I actually had to skip my lecture at uni this week. I made it to the tutorial, but just couldn't take the time to go for the lecture. My instructor has been recording and posting the lectures so I hope he posts this one soon.
Meanwhile at home, I've been busy with homework, creating a Seizure Management Plan for my husband, and working on some of these Strategies.
31 Strategies for Living with Traumatic Brain Injury
https://www.brainline.org/article/31-strategies-living-traumatic-brain-injury
As I mentioned earlier, many of these strategies are good whether or not a person has a severe traumatic brain injury. This one, in particular: 23. Create an Emergency Binder.
The Seizure Management Plan will be part of that.

Good morning all! Happy Thursday! I had a very odd night last night. About an hour after I went to bed, my body woke me up. I had the worst stomach ache. Spent some time in the bathroom (up and down out of bed for about two hours) unsure which end should be greeting the toilet. Not fun. This sort of thing hardly ever happens to me, so I am not sure what I ate or did differently...I feel fine this morning. Just tired. I am wondering if it was "stress belly"; although I don't really feel under a lot of stress. Perhaps subconsciously it is affecting me and this is the way it chose to show itself? Anyway, I woke up this morning promising to kick myself in the butt, increase my water intake(it has been down since the surgery) and get back to my cup of yogurt each day. I also noticed I need to increase my veg consumption again. My bread/pasta intake has been higher than normal since my MIL's funeral. (thankful for logging daily) Time for the boot, I guess!
Exercise- The past couple of weeks (with Trentin here every morning at 6am) I haven't been waking in time to get any exercise in. BUT, the snow and ice are gone now, and we (the kids and I) have been walking nearly every morning. I will increase their walk time and mine and hope that motivates me to get out and get busy walking just for me in the evenings. I think it's time I add my plank back into my day as well. So...exercise goals for this month...boost my walking and add the plank.
Inspiration- lol I found my back issues of Runner's World Magazine. I saved the ones that I enjoyed the most (there are about a dozen issues). I really miss running, but know I need to get back into a constant walking (without pain) regime. So...I will read about people who have done it, races I would love to enter, and come visit you ladies here on this thread; to find the inspiration I need to get back "on the road".
Heather- YES! to your DIL's words on regret, anxiety, and gratitude! I have never been one to be anxious about things; it is just not in my nature. BUT regret is a soul killer. I have done my best to lay those down. I had always considered myself to be a gracious/thankful person; but until I began a gratitude journal (the prompting from our Barbie) I never realized how much control we have over our own happiness and contentment. There is SO much in life that can wear on your contentment; and you wouldn't even notice that you are becoming more unhappy/ungrateful until you are in full blown depression or dissatisfaction with your life. Great words on your daughter's page!
Does anyone make their own sauerkraut?- I think this may be my new experiment. I am looking up recipes/methods online, but because so many of them are hit or miss, wondering if any of you have a recipe/method you like to use?!
Next week I will start our "growing" weeks with the daycare kiddos. Lots of books/activities on spring, gardens, plants, etc. This becomes the time when we categorize foods into groups (vegetable, fruit, nut/seed, meats, dairy, grain) and when we start plants in the house. I have everything I need to get them going (soil, containers, seeds) so I am very excited for next week to begin.
Well, kids arriving...time to fly! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

My cancer friend has just rung me! :drinker: We've been in touch through WhatsApp, but haven't spoken in ages. We had a lovely long chat and she is at home , in good spirits, and feeling grateful for the wonderful care she is getting. She said she is grateful she has cancer and not dementia. All her care is completely free and really good. It's mainly through the Marie Curie hospice charity. Two of her friends from Europe who visited her recently at the hospice have donated €1000 euros each to it as they were so impressed. Her only regret us that the carers, who come in three times a day, are so badly paid. It's a national disgrace.
So we have agreed that I will go up to London next Thursday to visit her. I will buy lunch from her local supermarket when I get up there. Probably text her first to see if there is anything she especially fancies. She has got her appetite back since the hospice are keeping her on a low dose of steroids. She's even having a tiny bit of alcohol.
I hope we can keep to that as she has a habit of cancelling.
Her phone call cut right through my writing time, so that's a shame, but it was definitely worth it.
Hope to run this afternoon. It's been a whole week, I've been so busy!

NY Karen ... I understand needing to approach yard work "one bit at a time!" When I looked at my yard debacle Tuesday, I was overwhelmed and ready to quit after 15 minutes. I finished that side yesterday!! Great satisfaction in completing something difficult outside of my interest and comfort zone. Not sure how much I'll get done today as it's supposed to start raining when I get home from work.
Kelly... I experienced something like you describe earlier in the year ... and I rarely am kept awake with stomach issues. I really think it was a short-lived virus. Hope you're over it and feeling better today!
I ate sugary junk yesterday and that just needs to stop. Just because I can, doesn't mean I should. I feel much better when I limit sugar and focus on eating food that nourishes and satisfies.

Heather ... Yay for hearing from your friend! What we pay care givers here is a national disgrace as well.1

Heather: I love the quote you shared from your DDIL’s facebook page. It is so true.
“No amount of regret changes the past
No amount of anxiety changes the future
Any amount of gratitude changes the present”
I’m happy for your cancer friend’s improved outlook and level of happiness. Yay!!!
Barbie: I spoke incorrectly about the cyst on my body. It is on my shoulder, not my chest. Unfortunately, I still have to wait and that makes me grumpy. :grumble:
Rebecca: Keeping my fingers crossed for you. I hope you get the house and love it.
Machka: Happy biking!! I love the Brainline strategies. Thanks for sharing. :flowerforyou:
KJ: My dad made his own sauerkraut in the longtime past. He enjoyed the process. His sauerkraut was too spicy for my taste but he loved it.
We had our heating/cooling system worked on yesterday and I am delighted with the outcome. We now have two zones, one for downstairs and the other for upstairs. We can set the temperature and the system will give us what we want on each level. This puts active heating and cooling back for our upstairs. It had been absent ever since the raccoon debacle a couple of years ago. The abatement workers back then made some mistakes in putting things back to rights and our whole upstairs was a dead zone until yesterday. I am delighted with the improvement.

Kelly - several years ago, DH and I made all our own sauerkraut and it was great. We were able to do it for a year or so, then a strain of bad yeast started taking over our batches so we now buy it. The simplest recipe is to shred the cabbage into a large bowl, add non-iodized (pure, no additives) salt, massage the salt into the cabbage - really break down that cabbage, some folks use thick wooden dowels. When it starts releasing water, pack it all including the water into a large crock or glass jar and put something on top to keep the kraut submerged beneath the liquid. Sealed double baggies of saltwater pressed on top worked great. (Saltwater was in case the bags leaked.) Store in a cool dark place for a week or more (we put ours in the pantry in the laundry room). Make sure to set it on a plate or in a pan in case it bubbles up and runs over the top of the container. When you are happy with it, refrigerate.
I'm sure you've found a lot of good recipes, I can't recall the cabbage to salt ratio. Good luck!!
Beth - in reading Herring's book on the Fast:5 intermittent fasting, I am reminded of how we ate at our house when I was a kid. Mom prepared enough food for the meal, not a lot of leftovers. Also never any chips or soda in the house. Cookies, cakes, pies for dessert but never packages of it lining the pantry. So a person wasn't expected to eat between meals or continue snacking after supper. We experienced hunger a lot (meaning truly hungry going into meals instead of snacking all day.) I needed that reminder.

Allie addictions are tough. I hope your SIL is doing what she can to protect herself emotionally and financially from brother. The same is for you. If she figures a way to protect their money he may start to call on you. You can still love the person just be prepared to set boundaries. He has to want to help. Additions destroys lives.
First two pictures are from the creek about two blocks from our home. It is fours times higher than usual. The next two are the Minnesota river. The bank was built their as a levee. The box in the river is to monitor flooding conditions.
You can see it over its banks by the submerged trees. Again thoughts and prayers for those in Nebraska.
