WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR MARCH 2019

Hello all: Beautiful day today even though it was chilly. Lots of sunshine. Took DH to doc appointment after going to Les Schwab to get flat tire fixed. My kids had changed it but sensor light was on and flashing after the spare was on so I was a little leary of driving it to Everett. Turns out the spare has no sensor so that was the problem. Anyway all is safe now and warning light is out. Yay! Ate salmon at Ivar's for lunch, no fries.
Rita - Happy birthday!
I remember DH and I paid $50 per month for rent when we were first married.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA4 -

Tracey in Edmonton
He is well enough to work a little bit ... physically, he's quite strong. He's got great procedural memory. He's good at things like mathematics. He's got a large vocabulary. He plans things well and is logical.
However, because of the location of the brain injury, his language centre has been damaged. So he misunderstands things, "loses" words, and processes communication slowly. He also struggles with fatigue.
What seems to work best is when I write down information for him, then tell him about it, and then have a bit of a discussion over the next few days.
I've tried to communicate that to his BTW (back to work) coordinator, but she doesn't seem to understand. She tried to spring an interview on him last week without telling him the name of the person he was to meet, specifically where he was supposed to go, or any other background information. That interview didn't work out because it was way too short notice for us (and he had the flu last week anyway), so I've been asking for that information since ... and for some reason, she won't give it to me.
If you had an interview, wouldn't you want to know who you were going to meet and the specific location you were supposed to go and a little bit about their expectations?
Instead, she's insisting on arranging regular meetings with my husband to ... from the sounds of what I've read in her emails ... cure him of these little issues (language, processing and fatigue) so that he can do what she wants him to do. And she absolutely does not want me there. I think I will set something up, but I've got to think about what it will be.

Machka I would want to go with my husband under the circumstances. I would have a talk with her for sure.
Wila and Bella Welcome! Just a tip: We do have a chatty group so pop in everyday to keep up!
I want to thank you all who gave me hugs or commented about my rant yesterday. Thank you!
Lisa In AR We are about 200 miles south of you (maybe less) and we may get ice or snow once in a while, but I agree with you, Arkansas drivers freak me out and some of the state rules are odd too.
Like in Texas and California, the person turning right had the right of way and you can drive into either lane it there are double lanes. But here, the person turning right had to stay in the far right lane and the person across the intersection that are turning left have to stay in the left lane and both can go simultaneously.
The first week we had moved here my DH was in an accident. A lady turned into his car! I’ve had some close calls too!
Dana In Arkansas
💚🌲💚🌲💚🌲💚1 -
Dana in Arkansas- Ohio is turn onto the closest lane by law, ut few people abide by that law. I learned to drive in VA which is the same. Needless to say, I have had my share of horns blown at me because I turned into my closest lane at the same time another car turned and wanted the not closest lane.
Machka- I dont like his btw person. She needs more training on case to case differences! I am happy you are there for your husband's support! I love your name!
Name game- Kylia is Gaelic and is a symbol of victory and beauty. My mom named me after my father- kyle- but didn't like 4 letter names so added the "i" as silent. At 56, I have only met a handful of Kylas and only one spelled like mine. My middle name is Marai. Pronounced Ma-ray. Gets mistaken for Maria often(including my child support paperwork years ago!)
Had a rough time getting started today. Even work was not my best. I kept getting "squirreled" . Massage was awesome. Kitchen cleaned. Laundry going. Won't hit my steps today, but getting some extras in waiting to fold then switch laundry.
Welcome to the new ladies! Press the star at the top of page to turn yellow. Adds to favorites so easier to find. Let us know what you want to be called and a general location so we can place you in our minds. Check in often! Dont feel the urge to comment on every post, but feel free to chime in as can! This is a close knit group with open arms and lots of support!
I hope everyone made the best choices they could today. Hugs to all cause they make me smile!

Did about 20 minutes of pilates then took the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do Prevention’s Get Moving DVD.
After exercise stopped at the Salvation Army, then to Aldi, then stopped at AC Moore, then home to get dinner ready, then bowling, ate dinner then ceramics and mahjongg. Now here.
I can’t get over how cold it has gotten. No fair! I want to go back to FL!!!! Waaaa.
Janetr – I have a bit of a cavity so they need to take the crown off, clean the tooth, then put a temporary crown on.
Tracey – down here people with 4 wheel drive think they can go in ANYTHING.
Suebdew – I’m so sorry about your friend
Welcome everyone new!
Rita – happy birthday
Yvonne – good luck with the dog. Be sure to post pics!
Going to plan another CPR for the Newcomers, mainly because mine is about to expire and I need to get it done. We need at least 3 people to have a class. I’m not going to do as much work this time as I did last time.

Happy Birthday Rita!0

BellaB: Welcome to a great group! :flowerforyou:
Rita: Happy Birthday!
Pip: You have a great boot.
Yvonne in TX: The hummingbird feeders here are in use year around. Amazingly, our hummingbirds do not migrate somewhere else. They are Annas Hummingbirds. In the summer we have others, as well. Rufous Hummingbirds usually visit here in summers but do not stay year around. :noway:
DH went to his local doctor today while I was at my yoga class and he has another medical appointment with his MS doctor tomorrow. I plan to go with him tomorrow.

My word for 2019 is CHOICE with a different word chosen for each month.I had a bit of a binge last night, and was over my calorie allowance, (including my exercise calories). Some mindless munching on cheese and biscuits. I logged it.
The word for February was PROGRESSION
My word for March is ACCEPTANCE
I am working on accepting that there are trade-offs that we have to make from time to time.
March Goals- Log food/stay under goal 3/4
- 9000 steps a day 4/4
- 60+ minutes intentional exercise daily 4/4
- Weigh less at the end than now
- Complete Weeks 6-10 of 10 week Boditrax course
It's a while since I had a lapse like this, but I won't let one stupid choice define me! I will just put it behind me and move on.
Heather UK: I love your attitude to your husband. We love them dearly, but sometimes we need that time away to retain our perspective.
Barbara: WOW! How on earth do they fix that landslide! Stay safe!
Dana: You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family. (((Hugs))) Sometimes they are so toxic, you have to distance yourself.
Katla: Our town has put colourful shipping containers with large picture windows on a vacant lot on our seafront, landscaped the area and rented them out to local artists. They are a great improvement on what was there before. Supposed to be for 5 years when they went up 8 years ago. I think they are wonderful, but some people see them as an eyesore.
Best Birthday Wishes to those with birthdays. Welcome to anyone new. I am still playing catch-up! (Nothing New there then 😂 😂 😂) Up to page 11.

Morning—the 7” of snow was quickly dealt with between DH and I—love the calorie burn! I felt a bit overwhelmed with some sibling drama and a frustrating online reservation computer snafu so I dropped all of it and took out my postcard journal—kind of my instant bullet journal—in one column I listed everything that was bothering me, on the right column I wrote a tiny action that I could do to improve it—took care of low hanging fruit—like clean up your messy ironing pile, go to the gym, face the DDS.... well it worked! Yes, there are still things bothering me (sibling drama is there but I’m not being sucked into that vortex). but guess what—I didn’t binge eat, I handled a few things and felt better. Now off to start the day!

Morning, afternoon and evening all...
Better day yesterday, food choices-wise, and exercise-wise. Got through two PT sessions - have them set into my Outlook calendar, so it nags me until I get up and do it. Also up to 7 minutes on the underdesk elliptical, trying to get it to a daily thing, and then start increasing one minute each day. This morning, the knee's quite swollen, probably because I couldn't bear the thought of icing it yesterday. So, time to go get the ice pack.
Blew a deadline for a grant yesterday - my personal date glitch kicked in and I just missed it entirely. It happens occasionally, but I don't like it. But, I got it together, did the research, and replaced it with an unplanned application that was for approximately 10 times more money. Happy about that, but still beating myself up about the missed deadline. But then, if I were perfect, I would be REALLY annoying.
On names - Lisa is a diminutive of Elizabeth, meaning "oath of God," or "blessed of God," according to where you dig up the meanings. I like looking at name popularity rankings, and Lisa hit #1 in the U.S. from 1962-1965. Supposedly, my father chose the name from 1951's "American in Paris," where Leslie Caron played Gene Kelly's love interest, Lise Bouvier.
On old paperwork - all the moves in my life have pretty much forced me to just stay with the legal requirements for paperwork, so every year, I shred or burn the tax return that's older than seven years, all unnecessary receipts, etc. It is possible I am unsentimental. OK, let's make that probable.
Yawning in Arkansas,

Can't keep up still a few pages behind. Need to go out to the shops now so will try again later.
Just a quick note … Heather I was watching the last episode of Endeavour too, I was a bit worried Bright was going to get killed, but the children arrived to save the day Phew!! We can't wait for the next series, but hope Morse gets rid of that awful 'tache
Welcome new ladies.
Better get to the shops and check on mum and dad.

Machka Keep us, and your husband's neurologist, in your pocket at all interactions with that BTW coordinator. She's obviously on task, but her job (getting folk back to work) is not your priority (restoring your husbands health). Sheesh! And the heck with what SHE wants, you be there for your husband! Can she forbid you? Would his neurologist provide supporting info? Does the agency have an ombudsman or appeals process? Aaauggghh!!! Love your name's story!
Okie Inspiring scanning and shredding! Wow!
SueBDew ((hugs))
Janetr "still have my very first Income Tax Return..." and I thought I kept paperwork too long. :noway: Past $$ SMH. Back in the early 70s, when I got a raise from $3.25 to $3.48/hr I thought I was rich! And I was, I was able to save $3000 to put down on a car that cost $4500. SMH
Barbie " Doing my income tax was a creative process for me ..." made me smile. My naughty brain put a different-from-what-you-meant spin on that phrase
Rebecca Oooh, an aquamarine doorknob! Just right for Machka and me!
Kylia love your names' stories.
NYKaren "a tiny action that I could do to improve (what was bothering me)" Brilliant!
Loan co-odinator advised re-fi has been tentatively approved, pending income verification, appraisal (done, not yet received), and two county forms required for mobile homes (surrender of title? and???). Giddy with excitement, I ordered the range hood and vent from Home Depot on line, they should arrive next week. Still bursting with excitement I scooted to the appliance store and ordered the 30" self cleaning, broiler-inside-not-below, propane range. SOON I will no longer be crying and shrieking "I HATE this stove!!!" SOON! IF there is enough $$ after the new roof and range are installed, I will get a Roomba. Can still burn some cals doing the edges, but the spruce needles and dog hair are winning.
Welcome Wila6468, BellaB1363, jenfli3!

Happy Tuesday!
Irish Terry- Today is a new day! I have had a couple of blown up days, yes I logged, no I am not proud, but it is in the past. Moving forward!
Rita- Happy Birthday!
Michele in NC- we are back to single digits again- crying.....Looking forward to next week and temps back in the 40s! I am with you!
Lisa- My husband use to negotiate with PT on how long he had to ice. He hates it! As for deadlines, missing them sucks, but sounds like you found something better! I am with you on old paperwork. I just keep minimum. Too many moves with weight limits in the past. It isn't that we aren't sentimental, just practical. I love all the blasts to the past though.
Viv York- some days it is hard to keep up! Just keep reading and jumping in!
NYKaren- I love your problem solving! It took my son in law 2 hours to put an order together for a customer yesterday. It is a big order and usually takes me about 45 minutes. It was hard to sit back and just let him do it.....I need to let go of some things and let him learn though.
Barbara- I am excited for your updates! I already told my husband that my next stove will be propane. There is a line on that wall for the garage heater. I love gas stoves!
Nothing on my schedule today except work. I am feeling my massage! Too cold for hot tub for me! Wind chills in negatives!
Have a blessed day! Stay warm or cool depending on season. Make the best choices you can at the moment! Keep moving forward!
Hugs and

Hi all!
NYKAREN -I love the journal idea!! Will implement that! Thanks for sharing!
We are watching our grandson today. Almost 2 and so much fun. Will enjoy a day of play!
Have a great rest of your day!5 -
Morning All! We are a balmy 26 degrees in beautiful mid-town Memphis today. Most of the city is complaining, but after reading some of the temperatures here I think I will just say "Thank you Lord" and move on.
We have a fairly large homeless population here as well, but with the weather this cold most have moved indoors to one of the shelters. On more temperate days some of the wooded parks and older style overpasses show signs of long-term camps. We were in New Orleans recently and I was amazed at the size of the "Tent Cities" there. I think this is a universal issue.
So back on track yesterday after the disastrous back-slide over the weekend. Scale down over a pound this morning, but still not down to my Friday weight.
Suebdew Thanks for the "boot" offer - I may need a periodic "WAKE UP" call.
BellaB and Wila - Welcome!
HiHo-HiHo-Its off to work I go...5 -
Happy Mardi Gras! Love the stories of taxes, ancient paperwork, etc.! Welcome new ladies! Found time to read, but had to shovel this morning in the frigid cold (8* here; -5* with the windchill!), so no time to comment. Love to you all! KJ4

Broke 0 degrees today first thing! High of 9 yesterday. It is supposed to steadily get warmer. This is usually cold for this time of year for us. I just stay in when it is super cold or roads are bad.

I am so far behind I am just going to start from here. Last month I was sick for almost 3 weeks and still have the cough and feel so run down.I was at the point where I didn't care if I lived or died. Don't ever remember being that sick that long. Now this Thursday I am having my colonoscopy so get to start that tomorrow. Can't believe it has been 5 years already. Having mixed feelings as 5 years ago I had it done in the morning and that afternoon went to the hospital where my dad was admitted the day before and he passed away that night. One day at a time. Thanks everyone for being here and willing to listen. Hope everyone is doing well and here we go with the new month.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE10 -
Sue: Your salmon lunch sounds wonderful!!!! Good news about your tire. We like Les Schwab, too.
Machka: I would be highly tempted to file a formal complaint against this back to work coordinator. Can you save these emails and take them to DH’s doctor? Would he be in a position to get this woman to modify her “mission” to something that is actually helpful? :grumble:
Irish Terri: Your artists are lucky that the shipping containers are available for their art. Do they also paint the containers to make them an artistic statement?
Lisa: A year ago we cleaned out our old tax statements. Our accountant has a huge locked bin that is available to his clients, and a shredding truck comes and shreds all. We unloaded things that were decades old.
Barbara: I hope your home improvements are approved and you are able to get them done in the near future.
Vicki GI NE: Nice to see you back!
DH has an appointment with his MS doctor today and I will be there with him. He wants to weasel out of our RV trip and send me by air, alone. I am not enthused about going by air, by myself. I also do not think it is wise to leave him home alone. :noway:
