If you don't mind a wait, I got this pack from wish and LOVE it. Its got pockets on each shoulder, zip up ones and elasticated ones.

ETA oops I see you are sorted. I love the looks of those wunjo but they don't ship to NZ so wish it is lol
You know what's funny? Before the Wunjo suggestion this is what I had in my Amazon cart, pretty much identical to your Wish one, just w/a different name on it, lol: https://amazon.com/gp/product/B06XFHZC2B/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A1QTWB0ARZPJ2T&psc=1
Only problem w/the amazon one is you have to buy the bladder separately2 -

But since when I started out it was sunny and warm, and THEN all that hit... I was like, "What is a little ice being thrown angrily at me by the clouds? No reason to stop, that is for sure!"
Neighbors are reporting dents in their cars, but the hail just bounced off my skull. I think the jokes write themselves here.8 -
@Elise4270 Well done on the Moderation Recovery. So many of us go out to hard/to fast and end up right back on the DL list. Great idea of a Journal. Just leave out the no crutch walks so your doc/Physio don't get grumpy.
Locked, Loaded and dangerous. Taser and Pepper Spray.
With the pepper spray there should be a small tywrap on the Safety Clip - this way if you pull the spray out and pull the safety off but don't have to deploy it the Safety Clip can be quickly placed back over the trigger. Many people have lost the clip and then you can't safely store/handle the unit so it has to be deployed/emptied and then disposed of.
Never Store your Pepper Spray/Dog Spray/Bear Spray in the Passenger Compartment of a vehicle unless it is in a secondary containment and a Ziplock type bag with a damp towel around the bottle. Theory is the damp towel helps absorbs the spray.
An employee of the Provincial Fish & Wildlife had a multi-pak and left the spares in the cab of his work truck
Hot Sun - Green house effect from all the windows - pepper spray cans sitting on a black dash - Nothing could go wrong. 2 cans over pressured and released inside the cab of the vehicle. The insurance company wrote it off - unrepairable Bio Hazard.
All the southern folks must be sweltering in the heat, except our Australia/New Zealand friends. Right now it is 37C = 99F. About 25F above normal seasonal temps. I have some gardening to do but not at these temps. I plan on a relaxing evening in the swimming pool = nice and cool.6 -

Thanks! I don't do walks without crutches yet. I'm far to gimpy (Google Trendelenburg gait-thats me). It kills my back and soleus. So I am minding the orders. The mention of twisting an unhealed bone was enough to prompt me to ask about everything I do. I stuck to the bike (stationary) today. I had music today and danced while cleaning too, oral steroid made me psycho amped! Weather permitting, I'll swim tomorrow.
ETA spray top
I think my pepper spray has a turn nozzle release, then depress the top to spray. I haven't gotten it out of the package yet. But the tazer is charged and ready! I'll remind dd not to leave her spray in her car! I had thought to just leave them there, so glad you mentioned this!
Thanks again so much for the info and support!4 -

Nominal May mileage goal: more than zero
Real Goals: Recover from stress fracture without making it worse.
Today's notes – All of sudden it's spring again. Rain this morning, cloudy all day, temps in the 50s F, and a little drizzle during club practice this evening.
Ran my 2 mile warmup on the roads, slower than when I'm in shape but really pleasant. Ignored the workouts for the club because I haven't done the previous workouts leading up to today's assignments. I ran the traditional first workout of a training season: 4 x 800 at T pace, giving myself a lap of recovery.
So it was cool, there was some mist/drizzle when I was running, the track was nice and soft. Really favorable running conditions. Target was 3:16 for 800 meters. Brought the intervals in (rounded to nearest second) at 3:16, 3:19, 3:19, 3:17. That's close to T pace target, but I worked harder than T pace ought to be, probably closer to I pace level of effort. Clearly I have a lot of work to do to get back into shape.
Have a bit of an ache in the healing stress fracture. It doesn't worry me right now, but if it's still there in the morning it will worry me a lot. I have already made the executive decision that I'm not doing speed work on Thursday. The rest of my running this week will be at an easy pace, unless my legs get ahead of me and start channeling MP.

0529-3.4k total-53.6k, goal-100k
Overslept this morning and nearly didn't go out. But then I figured any running is better than no running at all, and made a short loop of a nearby park that's about the size of my palm. Overall not a bad run, the wind was pretty cool, but there was a big firey ball in the middle of the sky. Dunno what that was about.
Not going to make my goal, but June is another month!PastorVincent wrote: »PastorVincent wrote: »Finally got myself out for a run yesterday. I started out at sunset. It'd been raining all day and finally let up. Cool with a breeze, Garmin says 23 degrees. During the 1st km, I could literally feel my bones and muscles and lung capacity expand and relax. Man, it felt good to be running. The rest of the run was uneventful, besides hordes of dancing old ladies and a strange niggle in my left knee. The latter was probably nothing.
Some kind of celebration or festival out your way?
Just a regular day in China. (Look up "square dancing China" if you're interested, I'm told it doesn't happen anywhere else )
Ah! Well that does not happen in my town, cannot speak much beyond that. It is a great idea or at least sounds like one. Saw some hits about Bejing not being happy about it and trying to regulate it. I suspect that was ineffective. But my view from here is very limited.
If my 30 seconds off Googling paid off...
"Square Dancing" in America means something a little different. Seems "Square Dance" in Chine refers to the PLACE of the dancing (in the public square) where here in America, "Square Dance" is a specific style of dance normally done to Country-Western music often with a barn or cowboy/girl theme.
Yeah, the older generation really thrive on it, gives them exercise and a social life at the same time. It sometimes gets quite loud, especially when you have competing groups in the same area. The American version looks like a lot of fun as well, although I really don't see how anybody can keep track of anybody else!
Also congrats for being a bad *kitten* and running through ice cubes! I cycled through hail once unknowingly. Couldn't see a thing and didn't stop to wonder why the raindrops were both rather big and rather painful that day.6 -
6.23 miles this morning. Trying to get frustration of new job out of my system. Didn't work.

@garygse My husband has been on a shoes quest and I suggested Nike, that you wore them. He's had them a week now. Says they may be the best running shoes ever. And I suggested the Achievement app to gain points and money, it's offered motivation to keep him running regularly.
Thanks! I think I grab some Nikes when the time comes to pound some ground.3 -
With two runs left for the month, I have hit the 93 mile mark. I've been dealing with 90+ degree heat everyday for two weeks and only ran on the treadmill once because I just couldn't deal with the hot sun. The mornings are more humid, the evenings are hotter and I can handle the heat more than the humidity. I have a 5K on Saturday morning in support of the local aquarium. Last year the course registered only 3 miles on my GPS and I ran it in 23:30. Despite my mileage being the same volume year over year, it's harder for me to get the speed up this year. But I am also a good 7lbs heavier which may or may not be contributing to my slower times. I hope everyone is having a good month!

Today's run was another hot morning run. It was 77F with a dew point of 70 and 84% humidity. Ugh! The first couple of miles felt really tough. But I was glad I got out and got it done. I made my goal for May and now it is stormy and will probably rain all day. I was glad that it wasn't raining yet this morning when I got up because this isn't the type of rain that one should be running in. My husband and I carpool to work and I actually pulled over after dropping him off because the wind was blowing so hard and then it started hailing. After it settled a bit I headed to my office and there was so much water in the street. There were even a couple of spots where I run in the morning that had water coming up on the sidewalk. It should be nice in the morning though and a little cooler at only the mid 60's at 6:00 am so I am looking forward to that.
Today I also yelled at a lady whose dog was running loose. She lives a couple of blocks from my house and she always just lets her dog out the front and he goes around *kitten* in other people's yards. Today he came running under my feet snarling at me. I'm not afraid of this dog, but it pissed me off. So I cursed at him and when I saw her on her porch calling to him I told her she was supposed to have him on a leash. She was just sitting there calling him to come back. I wasn't too worried about him biting me, but more worried about him tripping me. I've thought about reporting her in the past. She lives near a busy highway and it's really not safe for her dog. I still might report her, but now she would probably know it was me who did it.
I have a question about socks. I need some new socks for summer. I do have some swiftwick socks that I like, but most of the socks I have are too thick for the heat. I"m really looking for some thin socks with good compression. What are your favorite socks for summer time?

Tuesday, 5k on the Wolf River Greenway. Temperature yesterday was only 92 but dew point was higher at 75, and it really felt awful, the air felt stagnant and heavy. Also, my ankle complained after my faster paced run Sunday, so I didn’t push it. Felt hard, was very very slow. Had trouble cooling down afterwards, face red, feeling yuck when I bent over to loosen my shoes. Since Runner’s World calls any dew point over 75 “not advised” I guess that makes sense. But it only gets worse as the year goes on, might as well get used to it.
Standing on the bridge, the frogs were so loud that you couldn’t talk over them. We made a short recording of them and I was playing it back later at home, and my husband came running in. “What is that?” “It’s that video of the frogs.” “I thought the fire alarm was going off,”8 -

@kgirlhart Ya, I'd report her anyway. What if it's kids out next time? Or the dog does get hit or trips you? Sleep on it and made a decision later.
My favorite summer socks are Steigen. My feet sweat and the moisture never causes a blister or hot spot. They are thin enough that they dry fast if you get wet. The rise on the sock is high enough that I don't get pebbles in them like the low cut ones. No one likes stopping to dig out that tiny rock that landed inside the sock. They are tight fitting, but not uncomfortable, just form fitting so the fabric never bunches, always comfortable. DH doesn't like them- not sure why, but I happily took a pair off of him. I know @Orphia liked them too.
whose starting up next months thread? I may be ready to do some walking by the end of it.7 -
Goal is 55 miles this month.
5/1....3.12 miles
5/2...3.09 miles
5/4....13.1 miles (mini-marathon)
5/9....6.63 miles
5/16....4.15 miles.....slow miles, cool weather...nice breeze. Completed after working a 12 hour shift and attending a meeting at work.
5/18....2.59 (treadmill)
5/19...no workout due to thunderstorms
5/20...8.99 miles (Monon trail).....cool weather approximately 62 degrees with occasional cool winds. Goal was to try to run 13 minute miles at up-tempo pace in order to build up my stamina. Noted that during most of my races, I became more fatigued after 9 miles. I was able to sprint easier and ran mile 6 at 12:24 and mile 7 at 17 seconds faster than mile 1 (repeated mile). Had ache in right hip after starting but went away after 2nd mile. Slept great last night.
5/22....2.71 miles (treadmill).....plus 10 minutes on stationary bike. Lots of sweating!
5/24 ....6.47 miles (Monon trail)....72 degrees....very humid.
5/26...0 miles.....wanted to run but due to the Indy 500 and my street being blocked, had a short window of time to be able to go home.
5/27...7.01 miles.....run on the Monon Trail....82 degrees and very humid. Unable to keep my heart rate in "fat burning" mode. Just missed the rain. Started to rain during my cool-down walk.
5/29...2.63 miles on the treadmill.....broke a significant sweat after 37 minutes.
Total is 60.49 miles
Goal is 55 miles
Achieved goal with 2 days to spare. Yay! Anticipating more obstacles next month. I need to be in Iowa next month, and usually am lucky to get a few walks done.

So excited that you have been listening to frogs. Very worried about our amphibian friends, which are projected to become extinct in 10 years. I can't remember the source (sorry). I was pretty stunned at the time that I heard or read it.2 -
@Elise4270 Glad your husband likes his shoes...which ones did he go for? I currently run with the Epic React Flyknit 2, but I may try the Epic Phantom React Flyknit next time, as there'll never be a problem with the laces coming undone, lol.
@kgirlhart I've been wearing Balega's Enduro V-Tech low cut socks for a long time...in this part of the world, I use them pretty much as a year-round sock.
Just a couple more running days left before we get into the summer months, and the heat/humidity/wind is already affecting my performance; Garmin has started getting all passive-aggressive by throwing words around like 'unproductive'. Not that it bothers me any, as I'm just maintaining a base mileage right now and will continue to do so throughout the summer, so yes Garmin, I'm gonna suck for a while...deal with it!

Saw the Ortho PA yesterday. My foot is fine. The issue with my hip/quad she thinks is from 'deconditioning' as a result of the foot injury and then running further than my conditioning level was ready for even though I had run multiple long runs in prep. The issue is actually in my right glute which is significantly weaker than my left and that is causing my ITB and quad to be overloaded resulting in the pain.
So lots of glute strengthening in my future - at least 4xWeek. Started with the trainer yesterday - he got that evil look in his eye when I told him more glute work... We did alternating upper body with the glute work (lunges, leg lifts with a reverse crunch and single leg glute bridges). He also gave me some drills to do.
So today when I went out I walked the first mile over to the dirt trail (service road) along the river. Then did the 'prancing' drills the trainer wanted me to try. Basically knees up and bring my foot straight down under me and not forward at all. It loads the glute and puts very little demand on the quad. It took me a bit to get it right, I was trying to do too much on my toes rather than on the ball of my foot as he had instructed. I ended up doing a few sets, slowly, then walked home. I followed up with 30 mins of glute strengthening exercises and stretches and then some foam rolling. Can't say it felt great but it was doable and I don't feel bad now.
I don't know if anyone else saw this article but I thought it was very interesting...

@kgirlhart I wear Darn Tough socks. The summer version are quarter length, and billed as "running" socks. They're thinner than the micro-crew length billed as "Hike/Trek" that I wear in the winter, but they aren't compression. Wick the sweat away, prevent blisters, they're good. If you need compression, they don't do that.0

I had planned to run the next two days but instead I'm taking some rest days. My left knee has been bothering me a little here and there. Nothing to stop me from running, until today. The weird thing is that it was bothering me in one place but this morning during my run it hurt in a different place. It wasn't bad bad but enough that I figured I probably shouldn't run on it. I just want to whine about it now. Instead, I'll work on my weak core/glutes, tight hamstrings and hip flexors.
On the upside, I met my goal for the month. Yay.9 -

Just a little warm-up run today before strength training. After a day of airplanes and airports, it felt good to move a bit.

Today's notes – Life maintenance tasks meant I wasn't going to get out for a run before 4 PM. Weather was fine for running anyway, but traffic near home picks up around then. So it was either run the same residential streets I've been running all week, deal with the traffic on the main roads, or . . . drive to a group 3 mile run. I drove, leaving early to avoid 5 PM traffic.
Ran into an old running buddy who also arrived early, and we went out for a 2 mile pre-run, then the 3 mile group run at 6. It was pleasant weather, reasonable terrain, a bit of hills, and some good conversation. At the start of the pre-run, my hamstrings told me I worked them hard yesterday. Then they quieted down. After the 3 mile run with some hills, my quads told me they weren't used to hills. But it's all good. The hamstrings and quads will get used to this.

Total: 261.38 / 200 miles
He’s in the Nike Zoom Fly FK. He’s spent so much on various shoes lately, he wasn’t sure he wanted to part with much more not knowing if they’d work for him. Dh likes the balega socks too. The ones he has, are thicker than the Steigen, I think in the toes and heel- or that may be an entirely different sock I’m thinking of. I’ve yet to try them. @kgirlhart definitely worth considering. I haven’t heard of anyone that didn’t like them.
Your cat still a pain? Waking you up early in the a.m.? Two of mine have gone bonkers. One licked me awake at 530 this morning and wouldn’t stop. She had food, door was open-she could go out. And she’s been annoying all day. Another cat is just stupid and it’s like 10x worse now. I think he has kitty cat mad cat disease. I’m going to have to shut them outside soon if this goes on much longer.
ETA @shanaber interesting read!3 -
So out for my run, it is raining again, but no hail. All is seeming fine when I come across this:
I stop pull up the local power company's web page to find a number to call, and it says to call 911 (emergency services) - That seems odd. The wires are clearly intact somehow, but I do as they say and call up. They said they would send a cop out to check on it. Again, odd. What is the police going to do? Not like they can fix it. They will just end up calling back to the dispatcher and someone will eventually call the power company to fix it. Seems like a lot of time and money could be saved if I could have just called the power company directly.
Ah well.0 -

Ah well.
The local authorities will block off a dangerous area in case anything is live or goes live. Happens here often.1 -

Yes, someone who doesn't know any better might go touching stuff. It is shocking (pun intended) that some people are more curious than careful.3 -
10.38 miles tonight - I made my goal after all!
