Hi Gals,
I feel like I have been so out of the loop – but I’m back on my regular routine for a while at least and that feels good.
So these are kinda late responses
NYKaren - I loved Lion King’s stage show, in my mind so much better than the movie.
Machka – You are such a trooper to do what you do for DH – WITH GRACE! I would have rung someones neck by now.
Barbie – great picture!
Pip – great story I am so glad you just up and went to Indiana!
Katiebug – what a tough week, hugs!
Bananas – This large long term writing project seems to be overwhelming could you break it up in your head into chunks? I know nothing about it – but introduction/2-3 middle sections/closure? And then just commit to doing 1/3 of the introduction, then another 1/3 etc… maybe that would help make it feel less overwhelming?
Heather – cute swing dance outfit.
Lisa – take care! I’m sorry to hear you are having so many health problems
Rebecca – your granddaughter is adorable.
Kim from N. California

Karen in VA: I have had very basic GE appliances in two homes. They have withstood years of heavy use, even at the hands of tenants. I will buy again whenever the current ones (over 14 years old) give up.
Heather: Love your dance outfit and especially the effort your DH puts forward to engage in this activity with you. Bravo on the longer runs.
Rebecca: Athena Rose
I'm vicariously enjoying all your reports of dancing, walking, running and moving. I am officially a slug, and this Thursday will be the one month anniversary of my injury. The foot in a boot must have been in an awkward position last night because I woke up at 2 AM with the feeling of deep bruise on the bottom of that foot. I keep a headset next my bed, so listened to meditations and radio shows until DH got up around 8:00. A couple of ibuprofen and warm soak in epsom salt took care of the problem. But, I've been at low energy all day.
I got my cane yesterday. Vicki: this is the model that converts to a stool. https://amazon.com/gp/product/B0019VY2LM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Stay well friends, and if you can, keep on moving! I'll never take exercise for granted again.

I am home from Calgary and the shower, had a lovely time and am so grateful I was able to go. I am exhausted right now though, so I have read everything but did not make notes.
Will try to catch up tomorrow.
Tracey In Edmonton4 -
Rebecca - Athena Rose is beautiful!! What a little sweetheart.
I had a decent weekend. I realize Chinese carry out is not the best thing for me, but I wanted to indulge my daughter a bit. She has joined the gym with me for the summer. As a ballerina she is quite fit, but they tell her she needs to work on cardio to increase her endurance for longer dances. So here we are...
Connie in KY4 -
Rori - Yes, I am sooooooooooooo grateful to DH for going dancing with me. It is the activity I love the most, with running a close second. The dancing has a theatrical flavour as well, which satisfies my drama side. I could join a running club, but I actually like the solitary aspect of it. Of course, DH often walks beside me for some of the way at least, but I'm happy to go alone. There are so many other people running along the seafront!
I am so sorry about your wretched boot. Hope it's not for much longer. You must be counting down the days. Sending love.
Yes, Karen, PENNY where are you?

Good Morning! Will be a humid day here but I will be walking quite a bit on an excursion with students this a.m. Should be fun! I'm also meeting a friend for dinner who needs my moral support to attend a concert (she's retired from directing this particular orchestra) that has a lot of former students. She doesn't want to distract or steal thunder from the new teacher, but, the kids love her and she deserves to be there and get a round of applause. She says she will only go if I'm by her side Will have to navigate the greek restaurant she loves before hand though....you know what that mean.....SALT!!!! Careful choices, Karen, careful choices.
Rori wise words about never taking exercise and mobility for granted.
NYKAREN4 -
Did an hour on the recumbent bike today. The plan for tomorrow is to do one segment of the AM yoga DVD then take the extremepump class. Oh, it feels SO good to get back to my schedule.
While I was driving to DE, I lost my “days logged in”. But I don’t care, to me that’s a bogus number anyway.
Karen in VA – I love my French door refrig. You can’t even fit a pizza box in a side by side. Just recently I got a large ice cream cake, took it to Maria’s (who has a s-b-s) and it didn’t fit in the freezer.
Tracey – I insisted that Denise and Pete go out just the two of them Fri. They did. I insisted mainly so that I’d have more PJ time, but also they deserve time alone and this would be a good introduction for Pete leaving PJ. This would give him a bit of an introduction when he has to leave PJ for days on end. It’s interesting, of course he called while they were out (I wouldn’t expect anything less), but he was asking all sorts of questions “did he poop” he spit up “was it projectile vomiting”, how much did he eat, was it breast milk or formula, when was the last time he ate?
Not having exercised for two weeks, boy did I have a hot flash last night! I was dripping wet. I really believe that my exercising really helps to keep them at bay
Monday: did one segment of a AM yoga DVD then took the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do a 30 Minutes to Fitness DVD
My grandmother and my father cooked by “until it looks/feels/tastes right” I must say that my father was a really messy cook, but boy did what he made ever taste good!
Went in the pool yesterday. It felt so so good. Exercise, bowling, then ceramics today so probably won’t get any pool time in. But tomorrow is supposed to be sunny
Evelyn – yes, Pete is usually gone for 4 days on the boat then 4 days off.
Heather – glad your brother is OK
Karen in VA – I know you like the LG, have you ever had an LG? We had an LG microwave, broke, got another LG, the time indicator broke but we’re dealing with it. When we needed to have our washer replaced, the repairman who told us he could fix it but it would cost the same as a new model, told us to stay away from LG, that the company’s service was terrible. The other brand he said to stay away from was a Samsung
Welcome everyone new!
Katla – I’m so sorry to hear about your son’s MIL
Barbara – yes, PJ will go to day care with Denise where she works. It should be interesting. Right now she leaves work and she leaves the crying etc. behind. But now it’s not left behind. I don’t know if she fully is aware of this.
Better post this while I can.
Michele happy to be back in NC

We had a frost warning last night so covered or brought in plants from the nurseries. Perennials will be okay. We will have a couple of great days and then it gets cool or rains. This weekend it was both.
DS still in hospital. He won't sign release so will don't know much about his progress. The down side to the Hipaa laws.
Painting class today. I am working on a hibicus flower to give to one of our painters who is moving. I will miss her she is very talented and inspires me to take chances.

Heather: I hope you run into old friends at the reunion. I had my 50th Highschool reunion a couple of years ago. I had the chance to visit with four or five women I went to Junior High with, and then HS. Everyone else was pretty much a stranger. The people I wanted to see most were from grade school days, and neither one of them was there. My best friend from Junior High through HS was a missing person, and I managed to track her down. She declined to go to the reunion, but we did meet for lunch. Since then she’s had some heartaches & I haven’t seen her. :ohwell:
Barbie: I don’t know about you, but when I overload on sodium my joints ache. It is definitely unpleasant. Of course, the scale shows more weight as well. I was brought up by a salt-aholic. Mom used to lick her palm, shake salt on it and lick the salt off. I learned the habit from an early age. I don’t do it anymore! :noway:
Rori: Your cane/stool is an interesting invention. I hope you’ll let us know whether you like it.
Connie in KY: You and your daughter look great together.
Allie: 32 pounds lost in five months is excellent progress. Congratulations!!! :flowerforyou:
Michele: Thanks for the kind words about DS’s MIL.
Yoga today!!!! I am looking forward to it.

Katla - I will know almost everyone at the reunion as it is just our year group from our High School. My special girlfriends are coming too. One is flying in from France, one flying from Glasgow (she will be staying the night before with me) and one coming by train from York. I have been in touch with some other of the classmates over the years. We had two reunions previously, but the last one was over 20 years ago, so we will all look a bit different.
The strange thing is that I am now writing about those years in the second volume of my memoir. It has brought it all back so vividly. Some good, some not so good. I think none of us truly appreciated how unusual our all girls school was at the time. The head mistress was a scientist Ph D and a Quaker. There was a strong Science element to the school and we were all encouraged to aim high. If you were not academic it was probably not so good, but, for those who were, the sky was the limit.
There was a sprinkling of dedicated and brilliant teachers among the mediocre, and I owe a lot to a couple of them. One in particular encouraged me to be a writer.

Rori... I loved my GE appliances too... but GE was purchased by Haier who is based out of China. My 7 year old GE fridge was manufactured in Mexico and it took them months to get a part in from China.

Yesterday only walked Tumble down to the lane, didn't make alfredo, did rest of list.
Today I will: call Pat and listen, walk Tumble to cistern and start raking path before it rains, tackle laundry mountain, make chicken alfredo
Kay (((hugs))) Please take extra special care of yourself, these times of losses can really make us sick.
Michele, on pg 41 "...to this I just smile..." Wisdom you!
Julie, noticing the long term writing project seems to be a struggle. When I set too many and too ambitious goals (as I do every month [sigh]) I get overwhelmed and just quit. What gets me going again, is the 5 minute wisdom learned from these gals. So today I'll progress on the path project by dedicating only 5 minutes to it (I'll even set my timer). Now if only it would work on the "hang or purge art" project... ;}
Lisa sure hope the Dr can get you some relief. This has gone on WAY long enough.
KJ thanks for saying how you enjoy Grace and Frankie. I've been wanting to see it, but unwilling to pay... Just checked our library and it's available! Guess I'll be going into town today after all...
Machka "some combination of TBI and IT" Yes! Could that be your purpose? Do you need a PhD? Seems like you are already so expert that you'll invent/develop stuff as soon as you can take a breath. Guides for how to devise contingency plans, advocate for your loved one, helpful apps, information databases, somethings!
Heather tell us more about the "Cheeky walks..." ?
Welcome Kellymlowder and yes we'd love to have you.
pip wow. You were the bone marrow donor to your sister after all that? Talk about returning good for evil... well done!
Whoops, only through pg 42 but gotta get goin' if I'm gonna beat the rain.
Lighter, lovelies!

walk one more step 11/31, 60 g protein 15/31, rx/vits 15/31, meditate 1/31, knee exercises 5/31, SWSY 0/9, play with Tumble 7/31, hang up or purge art 0/4 AF 13/31.
Word for 2019: "GOOD" good attitude, good food, good times, good choices, good enough, feel good, GOOD! Word for May "pause" Thank you Barbie!

Hi all, first time posting in this group (and MyFitnessPal). I'm 54, single, no children.
My family of origin is going through a challenging period and I am committing to taking better care of myself.
DB1 (brother - 53) has just been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing treatment. DB2 (59 I think) is dealing with some legal issues that is tearing his family apart and my DM (mom - 85) is having a few health issues. DB1 is DM's main caregiver, so I am taking over where I can (thankfully she's still very independent), but I live six hours away from them. I feel like last woman standing, so need/want to regain strength and fitness after a winter of sluggishness and overeating in order to offer support.
I'm being reminded that life is short and can change in an instant. So, I want to care for and enjoy my health while I am able to. Oh, and I deal with constant depression, so taking care of myself is very important, but I don't always want to do it. I also struggle with using food as comfort and pleasure.
Over the last six weeks since this all came down, I have been walking again, eating fairly well and have shed about 6 pounds. Would like continue moving, eating reasonably well and getting stronger.
Found this thread and hope that sharing with other women and reading all of your goals will provide some motivation on my own journey.
For the rest of May - goals:
Walk 30 minutes a day
Stretch/yoga 10 mins/day
Eat 80% healthy food (trying moderation rather than perfection )
Weight - 155, aiming for 148, but energy and strength are my main goals.

Sharon--Thanks for sharing your story. It's never to late to find happiness.
Machka-Great looking couple.
Allie- Sounds like a great start to seeing Joyce.
Heather-Love the dancing outfit. You look ready to go. What a beautiful place.
Barbie-Nice picture, glad you enjoyed the company.
Viv- Hugs and prayers
Lisa-I also have those voices in the head.
I am up to page 47, but out of time. Yesterday was a cold day. One day we have the AC on the next the heat. Sounds like today and next couple days cool with rain. Had a good weekend and now back to work.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE2 -
Seahorsey64: Good luck to you during this challenging time.
Heather: Enjoy every minute of your class reunion. :flowerforyou:
Yoga today was lovely. The owner of the gym asked me to become the new teacher for Wednesdays and I declined. I’m not properly trained and I have enough to do already. It turns out he’d approached more than one regular student. Our Wednesday teacher is going to dental hygiene school and will be seeking a job as soon as she can. Her current job as a night time bartender isn’t good for her family. This is a very good change for her whole family. I’ll be sorry to see her go at the same time I applaud her choice.

Well folks, I've just got home from the Emergency Room at the hospital!
I had an allergic reaction to something (didn't know what, and I've never been allergic before)
I called the non emergency helpline as I was beginning to panic and could hardly speak my tongue was so swollen. They called an ambulance, who took me to hospital. DH had found me a hay fever tablet before hand, which did help.
After sitting around for a while the doctor said I could go, take another of the Piriton tomorrow and she gave me some steroids to take. As I feel fine now I don't think I will take them.
Really scary! My tongue swelled up and hurt, my palms were red and itchy, I had itchy welts around my middle and I was hot, nauseous and faint.
On reflection I wondered if it was the cheese rind I had eaten about twenty minutes before. We found the packet and it said, THE RIND IS NOT EDIBLE. Oooops! I will take it to the supermarket tomorrow and see if they want to carry out tests. I had a lucky escape.
So, I'm still here!
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx12 -
Heather That's scary. I'm glad you are OK. Swollen tongue is a serious reaction.

Besides Penny, I miss Wendy. And BJ. And Joyce. And Gloria. And others. Don't know why I am feeling so wistful.

I had a decent Monday at work. I got all my necessary contract documents for next academic year together. Made some yummy quesadillas for dinner tonight. Seriously wish I didn’t have to measure the cheese!
Keep safe in the Midwest US!

Karen ...then stay away from Samsung as well. Both are manufactured in South Korea and share designs, parts and manufacturing facilities even though they are separate companies.

Heather ... that is scary! Glad you are ok!
Didn't do a great job with my food choices today. Had made a no-bake fudge brownie thing ... a recipe of my mom's... for my oldest son yesterday. He didn't take it home with him because it didn't set up. That didn't stop me from finding a spoon and eating way too much of it. After my husband had a spoonful, we threw the rest away. Hate wasting food, but didn't need that on my hips!
