Heather: You are lucky to have had such a positive High School experience. I am so sorry about your allergic response to the cheese rind. Yikes!
Seahorsey: Welcome to a great group. Stop by often to give and get support. :flowerforyou:
Pip: Regarding Kirby--woohoo!!!
Betsy in NW WA: I’m sorry to hear that life has been difficult lately. Keeping my fingers crossed for a good legal decision. I’m guessing the stress may have contributed to your spring crud. I hope you both feel better soon.
Machka: Our DDIL is a certified Pilates Instructor. She has a large exercise machine and absolutely loves Pilates. It saved her from chronic pain.
Speaking of DDIL, she is staying with her mom right now in order to help during a health crisis. Her mom has been diagnosed with four kinds of cancer that have each attacked different internal organs and has been scheduled for a series of surgeries. I'm keeping the family in my prayers.
Regarding appliances, we buy American made products whenever possible. We have a Whirlpool Refrigerator with freezer at the bottom that we love. It needs defrosting once in a long while. We also have a Speed Queen washer and dryer set. When our old front-loading set failed I went to the laundromat to see what they had and saw loads of industrial Speed Queen machines. I wound up with a good decision. I have a big home sized set, not the huge commercial set. I hope to have them for a very long time.

Lanette - We are good on the edge of the TX Hill Country. By and large it missed us completely. We got a bit of rain this morning, but that was all. So far no reports of damage from my family/friends in OK or KS. Thanks for checking on me!
Okie in the TX Hill Country2 -
Heather - That was a scare!
Machka - I can't believe how inept the RTW people are at keeping up with the progress of your husband and any setbacks. I imagine that you had sent that information to them and they just failed to read it.
Barbara - Love the cedar stepping stones
Lisa - That quilt is gorgeous. I can't hang anything straight either.
Rebecca - I might have done the same thing as you. It was out of kindness so I hope they didn't take you to task too hard. I bet you are very anxious for June to get here so you can meet beautiful Athena Rose.
I know that there was a lot more I wanted to comment on, but I didn't make a lot of notes and need to get off here. I overslept this morning after having a very awake night so feel I am missing my day.
I will check in better tomorrow.

Pic of my shelves DH put together for me.
I was sooooo happy putting my children's books up there. My adult stuff is on the very top. I feel as if I have finally moved in.
The magazines also have contributions from me in them.
When Max comes to stay I will have to remove the middle two on the top shelf. He is a fluent reader and they are adult content..

So a few people have asked why my ballerina daughter would need to work on cardio stamina. Ballet class is intense, but contains lots of breaks and pauses (except jumps-that’s work). A large dance piece performed as part of the corps de ballet, a solo variation or pas de deux might be 10-15 minutes long. Class does not give them the stamina for that. Most professional dancers spend an hour in the gym before company class and all day rehearsal.
So we are going to bond at the gym this summer.

Lanette We are going to have the LG Refrigerator repaired tomorrow at no charge. Not sure how long the compressor will last. Maybe they've fixed the design flaw. I'll ask the technician when he arrives.
Karen in Virginia3 -
The refrigerator saga just gets worse. I just found out I should not have had to pay labor costs last summer. So now will pursue having that reimbursed. I may need an attorney. The LG rep tried to tell me the retroactive upgrade to a five year warranty on labor for my refriegerator was brand new...but it took effect Jan 2018, and when I pointed that out, she said, "Well, now that you say that, if you can upload your receipts and cancelled checks I will look into it for you."5
-
Rori--Thanks for the info on the cane. Looks interesting.
Heather--How scary. I am so glad you are ok.
Tracey--I can't understand parents. You would think someone would come looking for them before the police got there. I worry about that also.Thank you for taking the time to take care of them.
Sharin--Hugs!!
Lisa--The blanket turned out beautiful.
Rebecca--The pictures of your new grand daughter are beautiful. Just looking at the pictures I want to suggle with her.
More I wanted to say, but lost my train of thought. It's been raining here all night and all day and I just want the sun to shine.

Home again, home again, jiggety-jig. Drove through the storm on the way, just a few minutes of heavy rain... but a tornado warning kept me pretty alert... happened that the storm band was headed east-north-east, and I was headed due West, so was only in it for a few minutes.
Thanks for the nice comments on the quilt. Lanette - it's free-motion quilting, totally hand-guided and random. Makes me think differently about my nice, orderly, straight-line world. Very refreshing. I hope to get better at it.
Both the respiratory and other symptoms are sloooowwwly clearing up. I appreciate being able to breathe without wheezing.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Lisa: Glad to her that you are, "home again, home again, jiggety-jig." That was one of my mom's favorite sayings and reading it on your post put a smile on my face. Two reasons, it reminded me of mom and let us all know you're okay.1

Too tired to comment much but did manage to catch up on reading. Heart goes out to all struggling with health and other issues. I think it is a positive that you can at least talk about it and not keep everything stuffed inside (I tend to do that at times).
Those share successes, thank you-gives inspiration.
Those who share general life stuff, so interesting to hear (I lead a fairly boring life, so you liven things up for me vicariously).
Good night, good morning, or good afternoon wherever you are.

Did a 30 Minutes to Fitness DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to take the water class.
Viv – I’m still catching up, too.
Julie – wouldn’t it be great if you could search for posts from a certain person? So many times I’ve wanted to do that, it IS daunting to search all the posts just to find the one you are looking for especially if you know who made the post
I went to the extremepump class yesterday. After not having exercised for two weeks, I can feel my muscles, especially my triceps. But I know it’ll get better. The gym where I take the extremepump class is closed next Monday as is the other gym that I go to….boo Well, I’ll just have to do a DVD at home.
Beth – I am so with you. Sometimes I think HIPPA goes too far
We had rummikub tonight. During the summer when this one gal is in NC, we usually have it at their clubhouse. It just seems to be a convenient location. Tonight there were 16 people there. Adra told me and Dianne (who has been on the board for years and was hosting) that Newcomers will not be providing any supplies for activities that are held in people’s homes. Well, this is NOT in someone’s home. Adra’s answer was “well, we don’t provide them for bridge”. Well, maybe we should offer, if they choose not to accept that’s their decision. But to ask people to put dip in their hands because Newcomers won’t provide a plate is beyond ridiculous. Does this mean that when we have the pool party, Newcomers will not provide any supplies because it’s being held in someone’s home? To me, and I could be wrong, Adra has some bug up her. Perhaps she’s mad at me because I bailed out of membership. Well, I can’t work with Greg. Dianne said that she'd bring it up at a board meeting.
Lisa – breathtaking quilt
Hi Michele from another Michele. You even spell your name the same way! Most people spell it with two “l’s” Give us a location so we’re not confused. I’m Michele in NC
Rebecca – I probably would have done the exact same thing as you did by inviting that boy

Hi Gals,
Tracey – thanks for looking out for those kids
Barbara coastie – love the stepping “stones”
Heather – that is just scary!!!!
Lisa – glad you got so much sleep – especially in a hotel room
Machka – so if I get this the case workers are upset with you for not encouraging your husband to break the law and drive on a suspended license?

Rainy day today. Knee acting up, didn't want to go to line dancing class but dragged myself out. Managed all except Dizzy, knee wouldn't support those turns.
Returned Ray's cousin's call. We exchanged sympathy and a few Ray stories. Not sure I can return his friend/caregiver's call. Enough.
Started chipping away at the laundry mountain and finally made the chicken alfredo.
Tomorrow I will drop dogs at groomers, go to T'ai Chi and the Farmers' market before picking them back up, and, if the knee holds up, take Tumble to CGC and dog group. Will try to squeeze a call into the friend who lost her husband.
Machka those RTW give the word "clueless" new depths of meaning. What did they say when you reminded them of his grand mal seizure and subsequent license suspension?
Lisa WOW that quilt! WOW! "drove through the storm" The one I saw on the weather channel this morning? Omigosh! Glad you made it!
Lanette it was yummy, used a whole ounce of peccorino romano, threw in some cremini mushrooms and ate every bite! Managed to keep under calories (thanks to activity) but just barely
Welcome micheleonfire!
Betsy State Supreme Court? What a nightmare!
Heather I'm with you. The store should remove that cheese from the shelves until the analysis is complete and the labels are redone.
Margaret what did you paint yesterday?
pip you are both da bomb and I can see tiny hornlets  tilting those halos
NYKaren fingers Xd for your peonies, let us see pics when they bloom?
Rebecca sorry you stepped into it with son and hubs. I too learned the hard way not to make commitments that include Joe without consulting him first ;}
Connie "going to bond at the gym this summer" Brava!
Vicki "...just want the sun to shine" ditto, ditto DITTO!
Michele I'll be interested in hearing how quickly your body bounces back after two weeks of no exercise.
Well the knee rub hasn't worked well enough, time for an aspirin and bed.
Lighter, lovelies!

Tracey in EdmontonMachka - I would have totally blown my cool by now with the RTW gal. That deal about your DH not driving yet - how many times do they have to be told he's on restriction because of the seizure? They can't seem to get past checking the box. Are you sure this gal is human or a computer that is stuck and has to keep rebooting, lol.
Lanette
Cool and rainy SW WA State
My husband told the main RTW girl when we were waiting for one of his Dr appointments. The Dr told the main RTW girl when we were in the Dr appointment. It is on my husband's Seizure Management Plan ... which they went through and wanted to adjust one section so that it was all about them.
It's also "common knowledge" ... he's not the one and only person in the world who needs to be seizure-free for 6 months before he can drive. That or some variation of that is the law in many countries.Machka – so if I get this the case workers are upset with you for not encouraging your husband to break the law and drive on a suspended license?
Kim from N. California
Short answer: Yep! That's how it came across to me!!
Long answer:
This RTW girl and I were going back and forth on one point that they wanted included on the Seizure Management Plan.
"My husband to inform the RTW people if his stress and fatigue levels increase,
impacting his ability to perform work and daily tasks. The RTW people and my husband to then
implement a plan to over-come the stress and fatigue to allow my husband to re-engage with
work and home tasks."
I didn't want that on the Plan ... and indeed, it's not there. First, it's not general enough. But I objected to three points:
-- RTW people getting involved in our daily lives. They are RT Work people. I don't want them telling us what we can and cannot do outside of a work environment. My husband makes lists and plans most of his days himself. But if my husband feels really fatigued one afternoon and can't weed the potatoes or trim the hedge or do laundry or whatever he had planned, they don't need to be involved.
-- to the idea that my husband would have to contact the RTW people every time his stress and fatigue levels increase. His stress and fatigue levels increase just about every day ... that's how brain injury is. Do they want us to contact them every day?
-- to the idea that the RTW people would create a plan for him when we already have a plan that works well.
The RTW girl was very vague on the first two points. She gets like that when she doesn't really want to answer me. But then we had a discussion about the last point.
Me: My husband and I have plans to overcome most stress and fatigue issues and have been using them regularly and reasonably successfully since leaving the hospital in July 2018.
Her: These strategies were noted by the assessor and are excellent, the assessor noted that my husband is definitely on the right track. The only thing to consider moving forward is how to gradually tapper these strategies off, to continue to improve his independence.
Those strategies were things like using a calendar with our daily activities, using a medication organiser, referring to bus schedules when we have to go somewhere, and having a page on the fridge with a list of emergency numbers.
Apparently I'm to stop using those things ... "gradually tapper these strategies off".
Then she went into the idea that if my husband is going to resume a full-time job soon, then in the near future he's going to have to be able to identify and deal with his own stress and fatigue independently without my input.
I commented that because it's not likely he will resume a full-time job any time soon ... we can't rush his recovery ... everything is moving gradually. He's pretty good at identifying and dealing with his own stress and fatigue (probably at about 75% now), and may continue to gradually get better at it. But with brain injury you can't demand that a person suddenly gain awareness.
And then, there it was ...
"He is certainly independent in most areas, however, there are a few areas such as driving that he is not doing at the level he was prior to his injury. We will continue to do our best to help him achieve his goals and gradually return to work."
So ......... because I'm not letting him drive on a suspended licence (oh evil me!), they are going to take over and help him achieve that goal? ????????????
I'm still floored that is the one thing they could come up with. It does make me wonder what else they've got in mind.
He's also not cycling 300 km in one go like we were before the accident. Do they want to take that over as well?
Just makes me shake my head!!!Machka those RTW give the word "clueless" new depths of meaning. What did they say when you reminded them of his grand mal seizure and subsequent license suspension?
They haven't responded back. Like I mentioned, they get very vague or non-responsive when I've made a good point about something.
I guess I made a good point! Oh yeah, that's right ... he's not allowed to drive ... !!

Lisa in AR, that quilt is gorgeous. What a very special item to use as a prize for a fundraiser.(I think that’s what I recall anyway!) Is sure bud big bucks if I had ‘em!
Machka I’m slowly removing the “just meat” items from my diet. With my smaller tummy capacity now, it’s more difficult to get in my protein quota, but adding quinoa and other grains has helped. And chickpeas. I like them in almost any dish! By the way, your patience has held up admirable when dealing with idiots. The fact that these same idiots can have such a huge impact on your life is what I resented the worst when dealing with my fall from a truck in 1996. It changed my whole life, including getting next to no accommodation, having to retire earlier, and pay the attendant health insurance cost from my own pocket until age 65. The employer had a huge legal staff and had a track record of railroading industrial injury victims. It still goes on, since they are part of the power structure in Seattle.
Heather, I’m so glad your reaction was stopped in time. They can go wrong SO fast.
Lanette and Pip, I totally agree there should be a button for “Woo-hoo” or “Wowwee!”
Betsy in NW WA, hang in there. If your lawyer is relying on the established facts he’s on pretty solid ground.
Rebecca, i too tend to make unfounded assumptions about my kids. It’s hard to recall that they have their own lives. However, they seem to have few problems making assumptions about me, so I shake them up by doing something outrageous now and then.
I’m getting more inspired by my results to include more exercise, even though part of me hates the idea. I know that what I do NOW changes my future more dramatically than most outside influences can.

Both quotes are going to motivate me to go to gym or get moving outside today! I gave up yesterday, a most beautiful day with no pending events, there were no excuses; I putzed out yesterday and I am not happy with myself. SO no more excuses, just do it.

very slow in way to start today.
in fact between 6 am and 8pm I was in bed on computer editing and have been dealing with mails online since (from bed!)

Morning, afternoon and evening, all,
Yet another good night's sleep making me feel I can survive this life, after all. Nyquil needed again to quiet the coughing, but worth it. When I can sleep, I can heal and I can get better.
Lots of stuff going on at work, and a happy boss who is starting to get a few successes under her belt makes everything even better. And... I feel like I'm coming out of the fog I've been in the last couple months due to the health issues.
Sharon - Yep, the quilt is for a fundraiser, as I don't know people/businesses here yet to ask for in-kind donations, it was my way of contributing to the cause. Hopefully will cause a minor bidding war, and if not, will bid for it myself and gift it to someone. Out of the estimated 50 or so quilts I've made in my life, I've only actually kept one, and I gifted that to my husband.
Allie - Glad to hear things are better at work. When I'm busy, I can deal with things better, and it sounds as if you and Mary have found a way to work together.
Michele in NC - There is a way to search if you're on your computer. At the top and at the bottom of every page of posts, there is a little magnifying glass, off to the right-hand side of the numbered page links. Select it, and put in a name, or a specific word from the post (if it's a fairly unique word or phrase, even better), and it will pop up selections of posts with the dates, and hopefully one will have what you're looking for. You can use the person's signature or username if you remember it to pinpoint a specific person's posts.
Off to the races, my chickens, and a good Wednesday, whether past, present or future, to all.
Test results:Edit to add - all the tests are in, and all are negative for the biggies, C. diff, crytosporidia, e. coli, and negative for all the testable markers for colon cancer. They've ordered the colonoscopy prep, which is being shipped to my house. So not looking forward to that, but will be glad when it's over.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR6 -
I've had news that my cancer friend is going to be slipping away in the next few days. I've put the message I had from her group of friends in a spoiler.Dear Ros's friends
In the last week or more Ros has been struggling with much more pain and breathing and has sometimes been very confused. She has slipped quickly in the last couple of days. Today she was agitated and in pain/struggling with breathing. The doctors decided with Dan and G it was best to sedate her quite heavily. It means no more food and fluids - so dear Ros is likely to slip away in the next few days. Garai and Dan are with her and nearby friends will spend bits of time there too. I'm sorry if this feels sudden. I told her she has so many good friends who will all really miss her.Even in her distress she gave me a real Ros look and a big smile.
This evening she was in a sleepy state but still struggling to sit in the position that helps her breathe. A tough time. I know she has all your love. Xx
I dreamt about her all last night. Not horrible dreams, but I was helping her. I'm thinking of her such a lot today.
On a happier note we are going to a restaurant called The Little Fish Market tonight. It came top in Brighton's best restaurants and in the top five nationally of Best Restaurants for the Over 50s. Not cheap, of course, but I'm taking my share out of my holiday fund as I reckon it's as good as a holiday.
DH and I did some Googling about Comté rind. It is a natural rind but it is sprayed with something to encourage ripening and fermenting which results in a big increase in histamines. To such an extent that an American university is using the rind in research into anti histamines. So the anti histamine DH gave me really was the right choice. Ooouuuuffff!
Any one who would like to read my friend Ros's memoir - it is available on Amazon and Kindle, called Loose Connections, by Maleika Rose Stanley. It is very good and an interesting study of what it was like to grow up as a mixed race foster child in 50s England.
So glad my friend is in a wonderful hospice that Ros researched and chose for herself. Always pro active and self determining. And a genius at friendship.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx14 -
Ah, Heather, I'm sorry that the end is near for your friend. She was loved mightily, it's obvious by what you've said of her, and the people who've gathered to usher her through her transition, both near and far.1
