@MobyCarp - beautiful kitty!
@polskagirl01 - love the bike!
@quilteryoyo - we have red tails and sharp shinned. The nesting hawks are sharp shinned. Apparently it is unusual to nest in a urban/suburban area. They are much more common along the river where I run but I have never seen a nest there.
Back to the hot dog discussion... just in time for the 4th of July! I love the all beef dogs bbq'd crispy on the outside (same for a brat) with some good mustard and onions. I also like them with sauerkraut. My DH eats them with ketchup only...
No run for me today. It was strength training day and the trainer left me with shaky, quivering muscles. That hasn't happened in a long while. I have a feeling I will be sore again tomorrow. I won't have a chance to run tomorrow morning but I hope to at least get out for a walk in the afternoon or evening then running Saturday and Sunday.3 -
Today's long run was the last run of the month for me, as I've jiggled my schedule about a bit to allow for our trip to Madrid and that concert I haven't mentioned I'm going to for at least 5 minutes :-)
Got up at 6am, thinking 7-9 wouldn't be as unbearably hot as later in the morning. I also had the bright idea of freezing my water bottles last night. Great in theory, and it was nice to have cold water. Not so great when you get to listen to the most annoying sound ever of ice bouncing about and hitting the sides of the bottles for what felt like forever. Got me a few funny looks too, but I'm kind of over worrying about getting funny looks now lol. Amazing how many other crazy people are out walking and running at that time of day, too. At least you could just about cut a path between the zombie tourists.
Think I'll be heading for the river trail for my long runs for the rest of the summer though. Today I decided to stick to the sea front because I was trying out my first gel (isotonic energy thingy) and as I wasn't sure what my stomach would have to say about that I reckoned it was safer to stick to an area where bathrooms were readily available. Didn't actually need them, no real issues with the gel at all. Good to know as I'm down to my last 5 or 6 jelly babies!
Was supposed to do 7 miles today, ended up doing 12.1km which puts me at 84.83km for the month. How annoying is that 0.83? I might have to run round the lounge a few times to stop that bugging me. Still, goal was 75km so happy with that. Time to start thinking about July.

Have had a couple of rest days forced upon me thanks to a poorly child and a husband away. To be honest, I have been a bit unwell as well so rest was probably a good idea. It looked as though I had a weekend without running ahead of me as my husband is away till Thursday however, one running buddy is running to collect her husband’s car from across town tomorrow morning (17km) and another running buddy offered to look after my children (from 7:15am when all good mums should be having a lie in) so I can run across town with the first woman. Runners make the best friends!8

@ContraryMaryMary Sorry you are all feeling poorly. Hope you get to feeling better quickly.1

Hrm, weather report keeps getting worse for the 50k tomorrow. If it is thunder storming, as currently predicted, I am staying home.5

Missed this too! Back when I had access to a full gym, I was trying to get to that point also, never did though.
Congrats! That is very impressive.0 -

This, but also cool that you got a sitter so you can get out in the clean air away from all those mean germs!3 -
quilteryoyo wrote: »@PastorVincent I think that is one that I have looked at before. You took some really awesome pictures with it. Thanks for the information.
I gave my son my "old" Canon T3. They are really cheap on the used market now and still are great cameras. He took this shot the first day he had it (he only shoots in full manual mode)

Last day of vacation and I was able to get 8 miles in this morning. It wasn’t pretty. Had to stop and stretch my calves. All this walking and running in the sand does a number on them. I stuck to the streets this morning. Hope to get one last walk on the beach late this evening. Why does vacation time pass so quickly? Good luck to @PastorVincent, @MobyCarp and @Tramboman and everyone else racing this weekend!3

I love the bike, too... I keep going into the garage just to look at it. Also yesterday's ride felt a little better on the hills. I'm encouraged that my cycling fitness appears to not be lost forever. I've got a ways to go, but am always surprised how quickly I can get back into cycling, compared to, say, RUNNING, after time off.
June goal 100 miles
Aaaaaaaand there's the mileage goal for the month
I got up earlyish and ran the route I had biked yesterday for approximately 14k at a relaxed pace. LOL that I actually have a "relaxed" running pace It was a beautiful humid, sunny morning and I enjoyed the scenery, baby deer frolicking with its stressed out mama, and I pondered why there were several places with piles of foamy soap suds randomly along the road. I haven't figured that one out.
Then I got to work cleaning the storage shed... put a huge pile of stuff out with a "FREE" sign and fortunately a lot of it is disappearing7 -

@PastorVincent Nice camera, but be wary of that slippery slope! At some point, you'll convince yourself that you need more lenses (the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM prime lens is particularly awesome for the price), a couple of decent flashes (one as the main flash that can be either on or off-camera, and another smaller flash to provide the fill light), and then before you know it, you'll be upgrading the camera body itself. I will say though, consider buying a UV filter to protect your lens. If you scratch the filter, the replacement is cheap; scratch the lens, and it's $$$.
A few years back, I just happened to have my camera on-hand to snap a picture of this happy little fella that landed on my patio furniture:
And that 50mm prime lens? Absolutely amazing for close-ups and portraits given the razor-thin DOF it can achieve:

@garygse Oh this is my third? 4th? I think 3rd... DSLR. I shoot mostly astrophotography, so my primary "lens" (mirror) is an 8" on an EQ mount with full sky tracking. The weather here in PA sucks for astronomy, and I have not gotten out in a while though
For day time photography I have the 18-55mm kit lens and a Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM as my reach out and grab someone lens. I have a UV filter on my 18-55 most of the time, but I also use a Hoya 58mm R-72 for infrared photography.
Here is a shot of the Dumbbell Nebula I took a while back, my last time I could get out, with my old camera (a T3):
If I can several nights in a row were work, life, and weather line up so that I can properly calibrate my setup, I can do much better. Especially with the SL3 now as my sensor.3 -
4 easy miles on the Greenway. Hot but not as hot as it has been, almost pleasant in the shade. I may or may not get another run in this month, but passed my very nominal goal of 30 miles walking plus 30 miles running a while ago.
My husband and I saw the exact same bunny at the exact same spot on the trail that we saw last run! He was in the exact same position, watching people run past. I guess he likes to people watch. He sits just on the side of the trail - if you took a step sideways you could literally step on him.

I aspire to own a good camera with a macro lens. I used to have an moderately good camera, but it’s outdated now, and it just hasn’t been a priority recently. Maybe I can put one on my Christmas list.1 -

When you are ready, shop the used market. Lots of people upgrade regularly and you can find some killer deals there if you are careful. I gave my "old outdated Canon T3" to my son and he took this the first day he had it:
This camera, a full DSLR, goes for like $150-$250 on the used market all the time and will blow away any of the brandy new point and shoots in that price range.1 -
Hey all. Crazy insane week. Works been awesome! Love my new job so much. So glad we've made this move.
Haven't run this week, so went out this afternoon and did 4km. It felt so fantastic getting out again.
I went shopping today, got some gloves and a second pair of shoes. I should have enough pairs now to last till next year.6 -

Sorry, what? Enough shoes? What is this 'enough' of which you speak?

Bahahaha Well I currently have one pair that will probably last another month. And I have 2 brand new pairs. All the exact same model lol. For me, on my very limited income, that's definitely enough!0 -

You are going to a concert? I had not heard this* Who? Hootie and the blowfish maybe?
*at least not yet this morning lol
@PastorVincent You, sir, must have masochistic tendencies. Hang on, you run 50k races, that was already a given :-p Hope it goes well and thunder doesn't mess it up.
BON JOVI! MADRID! 9 DAYS!
I swear at every major race I have been in since the beginning of time if not before, the chorus from this song has been played but like at MILE 1 or something.

I am NOT halfway there at mile one 1 in ANY RACE. Sheesh.
There's an easy solution to that.... move somewhere where they don't actually understand English OR sarcasm. It's pretty boring though ;-)girlinahat wrote: »Hey all. Crazy insane week. Works been awesome! Love my new job so much. So glad we've made this move.

Tagging onto this.... I saved my Christmas/birthday money from mother and mother-in-law to cover shoes and waited until now for the sales. Now, I have a huge dilemma... when I was fitted last summer they gave me a pair of Brooks Glycerins to try on. I loved them but they were out of my price range so I didn't really pay attention to the size I had tried on or anything. Ended up in a pair of Adidas Solar Glides, which have been ok once I got used to them and are still holding up (compared to the Asics Cumulus I had been running in, which seem to collapse after about 400km). Now the dilemma... I was going to get another pair of the Adidas in the sales, but I've seen the Glycerins on sale reduced from 180€ to 119€, whereas the Adidas are 129€. Cannot decide whether to stick to the devil I know or give the others a go. Due to this, the husband has been in meltdown mode for 3 days now and takes every possible opportunity to comment on my 'free sport'. **Sigh** he has yet to fully take on board the fact that a.) it's my freakin gift money and b.) aforementioned sport, free or otherwise, is often the only thing that keeps him alive and married.
