Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.

Good luck on your race @PastorVincent and anyone else racing this weekend!
I hadn't done a double digit run in a couple weeks, so set off to do 10 miles. But it was so hot, humid, and dead calm wind that I went ahead and did 13.1 😅
Left calf that has felt like it had a knot in it didn't bother me at all. But the last .05 miles, both calves cramped up. Don't ever remember cramping up on a run. Really need to find a way to take more water. Guess I'll have to try the backpack again. Well that does it for June. Was a pretty good month for running. At 6 months in, I am slightly ahead of my yearly goal to run 2019km.

@PastorVincent That is a nice picture that your son took. So many camera choices. Sometimes I wish there were only a couple of choices that had obvious strengths or weaknesses over the other. It sure would make making a decision a lot easier. I hope the weather forecast for your 50K gets better. If not, I don't blame you for staying home. That can be dangerous and it isn't worth your life to go for a run. Also, cool picture of the Dumbbell Nebula
Great job @Tramboman on making your GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@polskagirl01 HAHAHA I didn't think about baseball. That would be even more confusing unless there was some sort of tournament going on in the area. BTW, I like your bike too. The suds in the road sounds weird. Love that you saw baby deer. They are so beautiful. Watch out for the mom though. I have been snorted at before. It's a little scary.
@garygse Great picture of the grasshopper. Those are the types of pictures I want to take...plus landscape and other wildlife.
@Avidkeo Glad the move is working out so great for you!!!

Shoe update.... I checked the Adidas website because I was bored. They had the shoes I usually run in (usually €139.95) in a different, admittedly not my favourite but I don't care that much, colour reduced to €69.97. AND I happened to have a €10 discount code for the Adidas website from a perfume I bought my daughter for Christmas which was valid (wait for it) until TOMORROW. So I just ordered a pair of new running shoes and saved €80 in the process. RESULT! Not even my PITA husband can complain about that!

Nominal June mileage goal: 100
Real Goals: Get back to running regularly without injuring myself.
Today's notes – Today was the Country Mile at Ganondagan, a 5-ish mile trail race at a historical site operated by the Seneca Indian Nation. It was a pretty enough day; I only took one picture, before the race started, to show the scenery:
Before the race, there were registration favors of hand crafted hat pins (didn't take one) and decorative rocks. I took a rock, and thought about Charlie Brown trick-or-treating in a bad ghost costume and repeatedly saying, "I got a rock."
Went out for a warmup, and was reminded that I haven't been practicing on technical trails. I fell once, one of those bounce right up and keep running falls; but at my age, I can't count on falling to be like that. I resolved to run safely.
When it was time to line up for the race, no one obvious was lining up next to me. Where are all the good, young trail runners? They didn't show up. Bang. Off we go, and I'm chasing a small pack of people I recognize and know I can run with. Better make the most of the early part that's like an easy cross country course on grass; I know Bill is a better technical runner than I am.
When I pass the first course marshall, I am in the overall lead. That has to be a mistake. Get onto the steepish downhill, and I hear footsteps. I say, "There ought to be a good runner around here somewhere." Mark (a guy who might finish ahead of me or behind me in a road race) passes me and says, "I'll let you know if I see him." Then Bill passes me. I try to keep up as best I can, but get passed twice more on technical downhills.
Cross the creek, get passed again. Cross the road, and we start going up. Pass one guy where it's easy. Work to find spots to pass the next two. Pass Bill. Pass Mark. Get to the top, and don't see a marker. Look behind, don't see any runners. I guess wrong. I later learn that Bill yelled at me to turn around, but I didn't hear him in real time.
Get concerned when the next intersection isn't marked. Guess again, find a dead end. Turn around, go back the way I came, find runners turning correctly where I turned wrong. Prem, was that turn marked? Yes, it was. I just missed it.
At that point, I figure I'm out of the age group running because I've given Bill too much of a lead. I end up taking several more wrong turns. Most of them added distance, but a major one chopped a bunch of the course out. So I end up at 5.4 miles, on a course that (best guess from other Strava results) should be 5.1 to 5.2 miles, having not run a significant portion of the actual course and having run some significant distance off course.
I finish, and ask Bill how long the real course was. He says, "Nobody knows." Wrong turns were common.
At age 49, Mark finished 1st overall. Bill was 3rd or 4th. I assume I was 2nd in my age group, though the results aren't online yet. If I end up getting a DQ, that would be fair for my performance; but a whole lot of other people would also get DQ'd. One online comment was that next year, there should be an award for following the course correctly.
Consensus between Mark and Bill was that if I had been able to read the markings correctly, I would have been the overall winner. I'm not so sure that would be a lock; but I would have been competing for the overall win. Oh, well. I got a good workout, over 8 miles of trail including the warmup, and I didn't injure myself. I'll count that as a win.
And somehow, it seems appropriate that I got a rock.

Wow, even taking many wrong tuns @MobyCarp still is in the conversation for overall winner. He is amazing!
That's because the real runners didn't show up. Today I learned that I lack a critical skill for winning trail races: I suck at reading the course markings. No big deal, if the real runners show up and I have someone faster to follow.
ETA: Mark told me this is the first and only time he's won a race outright. None of us out there competing for the lead were accustomed to be doing that.5 -

Would it be worth getting injured to attain an artificial goal?2 -

@eleanorhawkins Yippee! Love getting deals and having unexpected great timing.
@runnermom419 I say run .53 tomorrow and make it an even 135. Seriously, it's up to you and your body. If you need a rest day, take it. If not, and you like round, even numbers, go for it.
@MobyCarp That would be frustrating, but glad you have a great attitude about it and sounds like you had a great race, despite the problems. I've never gotten lost during a race. I think I'd panic if I did. I agree with you that the rock seems appropriate.

Lazy Sunday morning here. Going to take the kids for a walk along the costal walk way, and over a cool bridge.
Not my pic, but a good example of what the view will hopefully be like
Ideally we would go for a long walk but I'll be with my mum who is NOT a walker at all. Oh well, next weekend. I'm slowly building the kids up to walk/run so they can come with me. Have to be patient, they are only 3 and 5
Ill try go for a run this afternoon again. The 4k I did yesterday was wonderful. New shoes are so springy haha.
Those who have more than one pair, how do you rotate them? Alternate? One pair for long distances? What ever you feel like? What's dryest?3 -

Oookkk hows this? https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10752061/july-2019-monthly-running-challenge/p1?new=11 -
Those who have more than one pair, how do you rotate them? Alternate? One pair for long distances? What ever you feel like? What's dryest?
I have one pair of trail shoes, one pair of spikes for cross country, and 3 pair of Saucony Kinvaras for general road running. Normally, I rotate by day; 3 pair of shoes and running 5 days a week spreads the mileage out more or less evenly. But I also try to keep them 100 miles apart in volume, so I can easily tell when the oldest pair is shot. Last pair got retired early, so now my 2 newest pair are closer together in total mileage than I like. So I'm ad hoc putting the newest pair on light days, and deliberately using the other 2 pair for more miles. This has happened before, and I'm confident I can stretch out the difference over time.
It's more of an art than a science.

6/29 - 16 miles! This was hot, sticky, and gross. But, I never gave up and kept moving forward.
134.47 miles for June.
That means I've met both goals. Now I'm trying to decide if I go for it, run 5.53 tomorrow and make it an even 140. What does MFP say?
Depends on how you feel and what the weather is like.
Would it be worth getting injured to attain an artificial goal?
Way to flip a lighthearted question. Thanks.2 -

Thanks. I do really well with back to backs. I am just going to see how tomorrow feels. If I'm not up to run, I'll go lift or something.1 -
@Avidkeo - I have 4 pairs in rotation and one of those are my favorite new pair and one is much less cushioned. I try to only wear them once a week but it depends on how I feel. Otherwise I just rotate through them pretty much in order.
While frustrating not to see the race route markers it still sounds like the race was fun @MobyCarp. Great job and nice rock 😁
Got a run in late this morning that started out fine but then there was a lost older seemingly injured pup on the trail. Several people were trying to help, giving him water and trying to get in touch with a rescue. He decided he just wanted to be with Hobbes following us so we hung out for a while and I put a post up on Nextdoor. One of the guys thought the pup belonged back down in the neighborhood and I ran down to see, He had the house wrong but they knew whose pup it was and we found the owner! Once that was all resolved Hobbes and I headed out again on our run. We ran into a mom with a group of 4-5 kids on bicycles riding all over the trail right at pedestrians and right at Hobbes and I. We jumped to the side and stopped for them to clear the area. The mom slowly rode by with a smile like 'aren't they cute'. I can appreciate getting kids out riding bikes and having fun but not at the expense of everyone else on the trail. So as she passed I told her 'you really need to teach them some basic bike etiquette'. I think I burst her bubble but hopefully she will address it with them. Then right before we made the turn for home we ran into a friend we haven't seen in a long while so we stopped to chat for a bit. In all the time out on the trail the temps went up by over 12 degrees. It was under 70F when we left and well over 80F when we got home.
For me to hit goal will require an 8 mile run tomorrow. I was planning to get out and run. Not sure I will make 8 miles so I may get close to my goal.

Bears eye is healing up. I don't know what happened to it, if that's where the snake got him or a branch.
I'm at 8.7 miles for the month. I didn't think I make half that. Maybe I'll get 1.3 tomorrow to make goal.9 -

The race was BRUTAL. Over half the field DNF, but I finished. The WINNING TIME was over 2 hours slower than my planned time showing how badly I estimated the conditions and course. 2nd place was well over 7 hours. Top 20 finish though, not sure how I am not dead.
More later.17 -
With moving, my mileage has been poor. I updated my ticker now that I have internet at my new place. It looks like I need to get out and do 15 miles tomorrow.

@shanaber Glad you were able to find the dog's owner. Sounds like you had a fun run, even if it wasn't what you had planned when you headed out.
@PastorVincent Yeah on not just finishing, but being in the top 20!!! That must have been brutal to have that many DNFs. Look forward to reading your report.1
