M I have done meditation on and off. I know it saved me when I was teaching in the inner city.
For me it what ever works to get me into a calm state. That is one reason I love to garden and to visit gardens. Listening to meditative music while I read. Painting is another activity that relaxes me.

I've been at this for 6 wks and down 13 lbs. I have 20 more to go. I've been eating whole foods, low carb and no sugar. This web site has really opened my eyes to making every bite count and getting exercise. I am 68 1/2, I still work. I do low impact cardio, strength training 5 days a wk for 30 minutes. I ride my bicycle to work and to run errands, about 20 minutes a day. I have been tempted to cheat, but have not. I have learned some excellent tips from reading posts. Getting fit is a mind set. You have to get stubborn. I hope I've encouraged someone and thank you for encouraging me. We can do this, we're in this together. God bless you!6

Karen in VA and friends, I had lab work done week before last, my sodium is way low, my HDL is way high and my WBC is way too low. So doctor said up table salt, which I've avoided for years, cut back on water consumption and possibly up protein. No way I can up protein, it's 50% of my daily intake now. So I'm supposed to do this for two weeks and redo labs. Not really concerned as I feel great and workout daily but I don't want to run head first into some larger problem. Any advice?

Do you all have accountability partners? What does that mean exactly?
Annie in Delaware0 -
I don’t have an accountability partner but I got a Husband partner who confusingly asks are you sure you want Starbucks??? Thought you were on a diet I’ll get you all the Starbucks you want! Unless you don’t want that then don’t but I’m not telling you not to you can have all you want.I don’t know what you want now.
Got here y a cousin I talk to about our diets.
Talk to my Dad to Doctors but that’s it.
Hubby bought me a watch that I turn off because it called me lazy when I was changing the babies diaper (I kept my kool didn’t toss it at a window as it beeped at me y the baby).
Think accountability partner is probably someone you can talk to when your about to crack y grab a chocolate bar! Oops spoke out loud while reading this think hubby ran for chocolate 🍫...... guess I’m getting chocolate today

Re: meditation. Meditation can be very difficult for anyone who has experienced trauma (which so many women have), and it's recommended to do trauma therapy before engaging in meditation. Meditation can open up a lot of wounds, fears, and the shadow part of ourselves.. so if we haven't healed those things to some extent, it can be extremely difficult to do alone. There are a few psychologists who have done work in this area and probably explain it better than I.3

Spanx is what I’ve used to cover panty lines and I always had trouble with them not staying up where they should. I found the over the shoulder one that Allie has and love that pair.
Mothers when I was a little girl I always wanted to look like my mom. She was absolutely beautiful! When she got older she did not think so anymore. She did not age as well or she would have liked to. I thought she was always beautiful!! I can see my mother in all of us four girls.
Eating plan most of us do what works for us. That is what I do. I found what works for me. Little steps, make goals, read success stories to see what works for others...

Rebecca – gee! You didn’t post any pics where you look hideous. What am I missing Just what I was thinking too!
Don't really have anything to say today, going to try and do some tracking today, I know that will help me get back on the losing wagon! Might scare me a bit today too..... lol
Congrats to those celebrating, hugs to those who need them and welcome to the newbies!

Chanderese – you’re doing great
Well, I’ve procrastinated enough. I’ve thought of everything possible (oh, wait, I can get ready for exercise tomorrow…maybe that’ll waste about 15 minutes). I’d really better start painting the black on my ceramics. I hate doing black…probably because black is so permanent. Off to procrastinate some more…lol

Being a Bariatric surgery patient, I currently use 4-5 protein products daily that I buy from a Bariatric Eating site. Then for dinner I have lean meat and vegetables. So I use the pie chart here on MFP to track my macros. Normally my protein calories are 50-55% of my daily caloric intake.
Janetr OKC5 -
Janet ~ I didn't know there was a pie chart to use on MFP. Where is it?

I posted something the other day and now don’t see it here! Trying to catch up. On pg 20 now.

Up to page 22. Forth if July was nice here. Spent the evening with campground friends. Friday went to the Alien Festival at 104 degrees in the afternoon! Donated blood as we were leaving. Walked to the car where I passed out! Scraped both knees and have felt “off” since!
More later.

Really high HDL is a good thing.
Concerning the low sodium, are you on a diuretic (water pill) like hydrochlorothiazide, chlorthalidone, or furosemide?
And what is your WBC?
XOXO

Yes I do take furosemide once a day, I drink a ton of water so am cutting that down. My WBC was 2.5 I see the doctor did not mention the high HDL so I'm glad that's good. I eat very very little fat or carbs. I eat an average of 100-110 g. of protein per day. That is A LOT. I thought I read somewhere that he mentioned increasing protein consumption but can't find that note now.

Yes I do take a generic Lasix only one a day, I drink a ton of water so am cutting that down. My WBC was 2.5
Janetr OKC
OK...so the ton of water plus the Lasix might be the cause of the low sodium. If you need the Lasix, then cutting back on water is good advice. Do you need the Lasix?
Your WBC is fairly low. There are medications that can cause low WBC (you can look them up easily by Googling), but if it is a new finding, your doctor will definitely want to monitor it. If your bypass happened to be a Roux-en-Y procedure, that particular bypass procedure sometimes results in a low WBC (and low platelet count).

Thank you so much, Karen. I've eased up on the water considerably. My feet and ankles swell horribly, ,hereditary I think, my Mom used to and sisters all do it. If I sit at home with them up they're fine and even walking is not bad but when I have to sit in a car, airplane, anywhere for a couple of hours or more, it looks like I have elephant feet and ankles. And YES I did have RNY and he is aware of that we've discussed it, but he is a new doc to me. He figured my B12 and/or calcium might be lacking but they are A+ as is my A1c. I've never missed a day in six years of taking ALL vitamins etc we were told to take. When I had the surgery I swore to do my best and follow all requirements. Why have it if you aren't going to do as you're told? I MAY be a LITTLE OCD!!! LOL The diuretic is the only script med I take now. I was off the meds for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol within six weeks of RNY. My old doc left so this is the first blood work this doctor has had done. In checking my lab work a year ago, the WBC is not really that much lower than previously.
Thank you, sweetie

I think I've figured out the cause of my stiff knee. This afternoon I fell asleep and slept like a log for an hour and a half. I heard that Bea had a high temperature on Friday, but recovered quickly after a long nap. I felt really off this morning with no motivation to do anything.
So, my self diagnosis is that I was fighting off a virus which went to my weakest spot - my knee and other joints. DH has had tummy trouble, as has my son and DDIL. I am feeling a lot better this evening though quite bloated and windy.
I hope my knee will be recovered by tomorrow and I can resume running. This under the weather/virus thing has happened before with my joints, but my knee has been a trial since I was 15.
I might sleep separately tonight as I don't really feel tired now!
Not doing too well on my calories with DH at cricket all day. I bought myself some delicious 'healthy' seedy bread, which I adore, but one slice weighs extremely heavily. Ouch. Chonks up the calories.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

Janetr You're welcome! Glad I could help a little. If the WBC is about the same as a year ago, I don't think there is a thing to worry about. xo1
