SuebDew - what great birthday photos! Great looking family Now your secret is revealed though... how in the world are you 80 YOA? Are you sure it's not your 60th? Your DH (I presume he's that nifty white haired gentleman standing next to you) is a gem. I bet that pup is keeping you young!
Mary - thank you for sharing those videos about the science of weight loss. Amazing! I had no idea that body fat has it's own chemical makeup. The part in the first video where he poured dry ice over the balloon was particularly illustrative.
Tracey - Ah, the wedding is over! You and your daughter are the cutest. Love the dress! Both of them, lol.
Viv - how worrisome about your mom's hearing. Glad the Police showed up and called you and that it was a faulty alarm. My hearing isn't that good - plus I sleep with a little fan running and normally have earbuds in at night, my DH conks out thoroughly. Having a little dog that keys in on unusual noises is a plus... if we could get a smoke alarm that sounds like a door bell, the whole neighborhood would wake up.
Lisa - congrats on cutting the cord! Sounds like you have all of the TV information you need.
Janetr - is this group a great resource or what? Your blood test results made me dig out my last one... seems I'm low normal on just about everything. Now I'm curious and will find the results from a decade back later today and see if there's a trend.
Time to get the dogs up. Make it a super Monday!

Suebdew ~ Loved seeing the photos of your party...you all looked so happy and pretty.
Tracey ~ What a beautiful bride and bride's mom. Hope you all had a wonderful wedding day!
Rita ~ So sorry to hear about your fainting spell. There's no way I would want to go to a festival on such a hot day. I hate the heat.
Viv ~ Glad your mom was safe and the police did the responsible thing to check on her.
Workout ~ Sorry, I don't know your posting name. Those fish don't look so small to me.
Kelly ~ Happy 30th anniversary!
Son's family stopped by on their way home from church yesterday. The pastor they have loved for so many years is retiring. They got back from Daytona Beach Saturday night and found out their black lab/rottweiler mix had chewed up their king sized mattress. Had to buy a topper until they can replace. This dog has chewed up a leather sofa and matching chair. The consensus is that she will be crated the next time they are not at home. Anyway, they were all tanned and really enjoyed some good sea food.
Other than that, we had a very quiet weekend...I have gotten where I hate Saturday and Sunday as they seem to crawl by.

Yesterday I learned that if I eat steak on Sunday instead of the overnight oats for lunch, then I need to have peas for fiber fullness. Otherwise I get too hungry and it all goes downhill. So many of the touted fiber rich foods have 4 g per serving, but peas have 10g per cup. Although that is a lot of peas.
As you can guess, I was hungry and ate a few things before finding a bowl of bran flakes. But I am still winning the war, just very very slowly.0 -
Carol - I've been thinking of you and your sore knee. Are you still going to the gym? After tomorrow I'll be getting allergy shots every other week so may stop in and do a Silver Sneakers class. I have to be in town anyhow on Tuesdays to pick up my CSA produce box.
I'm having mixed feelings about the weekly produce box... last year my garden was so unproductive - seems like the only tomatoes that set were the cherry type (I like to have some large ones to make into sauce). Onions didn't turn out, you name it. So now that I've signed up and paid for the weekly boxes throughout the summer, guess who has the best garden ever? LOL! That's the way it goes. But I'm getting many things that I don't normally grow - and it's encouraging me to cook and explore new recipes (Beth, does this sound familiar?) and I know the veggies are organic and fresh and yummy so it's not a complete wash.
The farmer is kind of dingy - last week's box was pretty feeble.... I mentioned it and she exclaimed she forgot to put in the lettuce. I sent her an email this morning asking her what's going to be in tomorrow's box, maybe that will spark her memory. Sigh.
RVRita - goodness, I hope you are doing better today.
Kelly - I too wish you a Happy Anniversary. Very excited for Lauren and family to arrive! Hope the weather cooperates - I bet you get some "lake breeze" that keeps things on the more comfortable side? (I'm still thinking of Rita baking in that HEAT, lol.) Is Tim's RA stable/ in remission?

beat you to it. my hubby and i have been riding (bicycle) to work every morning on our commute for years and when it's his day off, he goes to the gym with me (at 4:30) :0)2 -
Lanette ~ I am rethinking the gym. I went twice last week and walked on the treadmill and used the elliptical (barely). My knees were aching all weekend and I have started icing them good. I get so out of breath and weak feeling that I think when I go back to my internist I am going to ask for a stress test. I am doing the recommended exercises at home for my knees.

Put up an antenna to get the local digital channels today and it worked quite well, so "cut the cord" today, as so many people are doing... which is not quite accurate, considering it was satellite TV... but got rid of it, thereby saving the equivalent of two mortgage payments a year for TV service. With the antenna, we get a few local stations for local news, and a number of PBS stations.
Love y'all,

That's pretty much all we've had for the last decade. It's actually a bit overwhelming when we go to North America and stay in a hotel!
Usually, one or two evenings a week there's nothing interesting on our limited number of channels, so we either just turn it off and listen to music, or if it is early in the evening, we might pop in a DVD.
I've got the whole series of Phyrne Fisher, half the series of Dr Blake, most of West Wing, a season of Dad's Army, a season of Fraser, and a small collection of movies on DVD.
All that is enough to keep us entertained.

That sounds like a good idea ... I hope you're going back to your internist soon!1 -
My husband and I had a really lovely 4-day weekend.
I wanted to go somewhere during this mid-winter break between courses, and wasn't sure where to go. Flying to the mainland is a pain these days, but I was still trying to figure out how we might manage it when all of a sudden one day he asked if we could go back to a place we had stayed during our Christmas break, here in Tasmania. Perfect!! Less expensive than flying and much less hassle. And I really liked it there too.
It's a cabin on an old historic farm up north ... so peaceful and quiet. Hardly any people ... just animals and nature.
We drove up on Friday, got settled in and relaxed with a fire in the fireplace. Then I had one of the best night's sleeps I've had in a while ... and I've been sleeping fairly well lately! I was just so comfortable.
On Saturday we took a walk around the historic farm looking in at the buildings, watching the animals, and our favourite animal, a cat called Mr Higgins, found us and followed us back to the cabin. We were thinking about going for a bicycle ride, but neither of us felt really energetic so Mr Higgins and my husband fell asleep near the fire, and I read my book. We didn't feel like going out and finding dinner. Fortunately, we had brought some food and the place supplies a lot of breakfast food, including fresh eggs, so we were able to put together dinner.
Sunday I woke up after another long comfortable sleep to a world full of fog. It was THICK! Again, we had planned to go for a ride, but didn't think it would be safe to cycle in fog that thick. The fog stayed all day and even shut down the airport not too far away. Mr Higgins came back so we, three, spent the day around the fire dozing, reading, watching the Tour de France, etc. It was great!! Again, we didn't feel like going anywhere for dinner, so we cobbled together something with eggs, toast, and soup.
We came home today, but neither of us really wanted to leave ... and I don't think Mr Higgins wanted us to leave either. I could easily stay out there for several weeks. Nevertheless, it was lovely spending a weekend not really doing anything.

I am in that stage too - where I can barely use the gym. It barely makes sense to go if I can only do half a mile on the treadmill. I don't know where to draw the line.2

Carol - good idea getting your ticker checked out!
Are you able to walk around your neighborhood at your own pace?
A drawback I've seen with the gym is that it tends to make some us overdo it and be more prone to injury, especially if we're new at it. So I let the kids on the treadmills beside me chug along, sweat dripping, max incline. I "mosy" and get my 20 or 30 minutes in.
Good luck. Hope your "other knee" isn't complaining too badly today!

Just a quick stop in as going to be heading to Kansas in the next hour. DH's sister is not doing well. They stopped dialysis on Friday and her BP is dropping. We knew this was coming but still a shock. Take care and please say a prayer. After hitting the deer last week I am not comfortable on the highway.

Such great photos!!!!
Sue, it looks as if the party was perfect for you.
Tracey - can't wait to hear all about the wedding. You worked so hard for it. You are a star. Beautiful photo.
Happy anniversary KJ. Sorry your DH wasn't up for a celebration. You were so right to treat yourself.
I went out for my run after lunch and on the way back my phone went off. It was my son asking me if we could get Edie from school as she had Bea's bug. Of course DH is not here so I had no car. I said yes anyway and resigned myself to getting a taxi. As I rounded the corner to home I saw our next door neighbour so I asked her if she could give me a lift to the school. I was still all sweaty, but managed to pick up Edie and we slowly walked to her house.
Now we are watching TV and I have given her Calpol. She has changed into her pyjamas.
My son is rushing back from London on the train and will be here before tea time. Then he has to pick up Max and Bea. Phew!
The curry I was going to make is looking less likely. I think a takeaway might be in my future.

Absolutely, I knew our dear friend Karen would be able to help me out. My current lab work has really not changed much in the last 3 years. The WBC is a bit lower but as she told me, is typical with RNY. I'm the healthiest and in the best physical shape I've been in my adult. No worries hear, gonna keep on doing what I'm doing, except ease up on the water consumption and my even rethink the Lasix and quit taking it for a bit.

Here's to the start of a new week! Planning on getting back into the habit of getting to the gym and walking the dog. I was doing so well, then had some family stresses get in the way.

Meg: Congrats on your wonderful dinner with friends!
Sue in TX: Happy 80th! Love the photos! You are absolutely gorgeous.
BigDaddy: It is great to see a man so proud of his wife. WTG!!!
Rita: I hope you’re feeling better. :flowerforyou:
Viv: I’m glad your mum was okay. Hearing exam seems like a very good idea for her. :flowerforyou:
Lanette: We get nearly all our produce at the grocery store, but this time of year the farm stores on Sauvie Island are open and I love to go there.
Kelly: Happy Anniversary!!!
Carol: I am in full agreement with you about heat. Warm is fine, but roasting is not. :noway: I like the 80’s F just fine, but after the thermometer hits 90F I’m ready to hide inside with the benefit of an air conditioner.
I think medical advice about the gym is an excellent idea. Does your gym have recumbent electronic bikes? I use the ones at my gym all the time, and I get plenty of exercise without putting too much weight on my knees. I can set the difficulty and choose my length of time. The ones at the gum has an adjustable, comfortable seat with a back.
We are home from the county park and had a quiet and pleasant week there. I didn’t have the ability to post here due to the lack of internet connectivity in the park. Trying to do that on my phone is beyond my skill/patience. I logged every bite and swallow on my phone and it was all recorded with MFP. This is our second year at this particular county park and I think I’d like to go to a different place next year and try something new. I logged every bite and swallow on my phone, so I haven’t broken my “streak.”

I find this fellow's post very inappropriate - this group is for specifically for gals, many of whom have weight problems due to pressure from fathers, husbands, society in general.
What we share here is not for guys, although it's open and they can read it.
I reported this post as a troll. Hopefully it will be removed.
New ladies - the "woo" selection at the bottom is a way of basically showing displeasure with a post. Note that he has quite a few of them.

Gah - water heater went out - tank let loose at the bottom, unfixable. This is going to be a few $$$. The guy is looking at it now... we've owned the house one year next week.

My son got home finally much later than he said. I had fed the older ones with toast!
My bright idea was to go to the fish and chip shop and buy two large cod. I had a small sample of chips to eat while they were cooking it. I took the fish home on the bus and ate mine straightaway. For DH I put some oven chips on and warmed up the fish in the oven. He got home and it all worked out fine. The only criticism he made was that he has had two days without veggies! Well, I was intending a curry with spinach and peas.
Pleased to have been of help.
I dropped a card in to next door thanking her for the lift to the school.
Tomorrow I will be getting ready for visitors on Wednesday. Last day of cricket.
