bananas. Hoping your walk will help lift your mood. You are facing lots of challenges, putting your health first and work prioritized is a heavy lift, but I’ve always found a good walk can reset a mood. One step at a time
A puttering day on tap for me today, will work on getting blinds purchased and installed upstairs. As there is no attic fan upstairs, it gets beastly hot so working up there is only manageable in short bursts, like a sauna
Dinner last night (peri peri chicken) was a hit, will grill salmon and serve over greens tonight. Leftover corn will be tossed with black beans, cilantro, lime, and jalapeños to dress up the salmon. No walk with bff today, she got hit with a stomach bug

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Back to work today, after seven days off. Not exactly a restful seven days, but a few things were accomplished, anyway, both planned and unplanned!
Allie - pleased to see you moving forward to making changes. Being miserable in your working situation is horrible. Many hugs as you make your next decisions.
Heather - isn't it amazing when you get a good feeling about someone who's performing a service for your home? Doesn't hurt when they are also worth looking at!
Kim - good to see you posting, and your schedule sounds exhausting. Looked and looked for ways to cool a house down without air conditioning, and every one of them boiled down to "get a fan." Well, duh. Hope you've cooled a little, and that the grant writing is spectacularly successful. It's very much a delayed-gratification process, which is not necessarily my strong suit, but it sure is gratifying when you do get the award!
Pip - happy belated birthday to Kirby!
Off to the races. Going to walk the property this morning, get back into my own routine after a chaotic week.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR4 -
Lisa - are you still doing the rowing? Or is it too hot there at the moment. Sometimes I do need a fan blowing on me, even in England! I like to watch Internet TV programmes while I row in the afternoon.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -
Bananas - I'm curious, is this a French speaking, or English speaking school? The behaviour seems very French (guys who fancy themselves as Casanovas). Are you fluent in French? Sorry to be curious, but I find your situation very interesting. Must be so stressful for you.

Heather & Lisa,
I've rowed 3 days in a row now. 16 min, 18 min and 21 min. It's not long, but because I haven't done it consistently, I feel it in my arms and back.
My rowing machine is connected to Concept2's ErgData program which syncs with Strava so that my rowing is included in my Strava data along with my walking, running, and cycling.
I see from Strava that I've rowed 24 times since I got my rowing machine set up on March 23.
Are there any other indoor rowers here?

Today will be a day of readying everything for my daughter's visit, I haven't seen her in over a year. Clean linens in guestroom, sparkle up guest bath and and a quick dusting and vacuum of entire house. That may have to suffice as today's workout. We will pick her up at the airport and stop for dinner on the way home. Thankfully the relentless heat and humidity have eased up today. Temperature to reach only 90 degrees, and much lower humidity than the last few days. Thank goodness for central AC.
Have a terrific Thursday my friends,

I agree with the extra work. I now am doing eyes on meds with son and we getting a major project done. Foundation of his garage the past two days (We did hire someone. This was in the works before hospital.) They were able to fix the wall that was bowed and I no longer feel like the foundation might fall in.
Last night I did complain I am having trouble just getting my routine stuff done. He then proceeded to find another thing to put on the list on his house.
My list is to complete the garage. Dead bolt garage just a handle lock now, fix the stairs that are in the garage, and get a garage door opener now that the foundation is fixed. Re seed areas torn up by fixing the garage.
In other words I agree the busy factor has nothing to do with the trauma. In fact I know I need to slow down and pace myself because I am getting tired.
The up side is it gives son and I quality time working together to fix his home and something positive to talk about other than what we have just gone through with the hospital.
The workers did nick some wiring and that now needs to be repaired too. The repair I did on it is not a long term solution, so I am hiring an electrical company we have known for years.

Another happy surprise today. One of Ros's friends who was helping her sons clear out her flat has been sweet enough to send each of her friends some small keepsakes to remember her by.
The two hangers are for her organised elegance, the mug rug is her handiwork, the sunglasses are the ones she wore, the scarf was one of her favourites and the necklace is,.... I don't know.
So happy to have those things. I wore the sunglasses out to the shops this afternoon.
Her friend only wants us to make a donation to an Indian school she supports.
Good day.

PS - you can see why we wore pink to the funeral!!!14 -
Well Coats are squeezed in y put up best I could! Later going through to get rid of any sz4’s I missed last purge cause I keep grabbing them y they won’t go over his head well we hang them back up if were in a hurry so goodness should have just tossed them on the goodbye bag while running out the door - after thoughts are 50/50 but unrealistic lol 😂.
Tried the face mask 😷 on only half peeled off the rest hung on to hairs so tight I had to take a hot shower 🚿 with a 2yr old playing with the curtains.Peekaboooo I would hear as the cold 🥶 breeze hit my back side wooooo chills just remembering lol.
Finally getting my strength back so hopefully it won’t poof next random cycle. (Iron levels are bad due to absorption issues then add a cycle from Aunt Flo bam 💥 no iron even if I ate Iron Ore!

Heather UK - Wow the necklace is gorgeous!!! Glasses are regal scarf too. She was a classy dresser!
Think my Hairdo finally calming down washed it brushed until it payed where it should! That spray they used wasn’t helping it none just made it smell funny. Hubby still hasn’t noticed it’s now a game for me to see if he notices how long.

Yes ... I've had to take on all the "paperwork" stuff my husband used to handle, and a lot of the organising. So where he would ring up our gardener to come do our lawns, now that's me. And where he could arrange his own Dr and Dentist appointments, etc., now that's me. Plus I attend all his appointments with him to be an extra set of ears because he doesn't catch everything.
So every time his back-to-work people want him to attend another appointment or assessment as a part of his recovery ... I have to go too.
Lately, we have been setting up a home gym because he can't drive so getting to the gym we used to attend is really difficult and time consuming for him. It's at my university, so I could arrange it that we would attend when I've got a late class, but the bus service out that way is really hit-or-miss, especially from where we live, and especially after about 5:30 pm. Once the home gym is set up, it should make things a bit easier for us, but getting there has been a lot of work: researching equipment, visiting sports shops, setting things up, etc. etc. He's helping, but I'm the one walking out to the sports shops at lunches to select and pay for things to be delivered.
His back-to-work organisation approved a personal alarm and medic alert equipment, which was great, but it was me who had to fill in all the forms and order it all, then read through all the instructions and try to figure it out. Personal alarms aren't as straightforward as I'd hoped ... or at least, not the one we got.
Essentially, I'm leading 2 people's lives and have been for the past nearly 16 months.
And yes, we want to do things with them ... things that make them happy too. So when your son or my husband suggests doing something like fixing up something in the house, or going away for the weekend, or going to the shops to get bits and pieces for whatever project they're working on ... chances are we'll do it.

Heather - since I got ill in late March, I haven't done any steady exercising. Re: the heat, we have central air conditioning, so my house isn't hot unless the electricity goes out. Pretty much a steady 72 - 74 degrees (22-23 C). So I have zero excuses for not doing it now that I'm feeling better... just need to get back into a routine again... for the sake of my health, it's becoming more and more important.
Love,

I lost my AC once and resorted to cold footbbaths in the tub for me and my dog to keep cool. Also I used to put washcloths in a cooler with ice for horseback riding. Felt so good to wipe off with that!

Lanette: We had produce available from a truck a year or two ago. When we stopped in to shop there was very little that we wanted to buy. We like to go to the farm stores on Sauvie’s Island in the summer season. We haven’t been so far this season. :flowerforyou:
Rita: I hope you are feeling better now. Heat and fainting go together in my mind. Adding blood donation to the mix seems like the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. I am sorry fainting happened to you. :flowerforyou:
Kirby: Happy Birthday!!!
Annie in Delaware: Welcome!
Vicki GI NE: I am so sorry to hear about your DSIL. :flowerforyou:
Lanette & Terri: I would love to have a Tardis. If yours is ever available, let me know. Regarding baking, I now bake with without wheat flour since DH can no longer eat wheat products. We’re able to get gluten free flour from Bob’s Red Mill.
Okie: I’ve had chicken pox and so has DH so we are both at risk for shingles. I was able to take the shingles shots but he didn’t dare risk it due to a number of autoimmune issues. So far, so good. :flowerforyou:
Lanette: We are REI members, too. I may stop in there one of these days to look at shoes. DH wants me to buy insoles to put into my SAS walking shoes. I’m not sure how I feel about that. Foot and leg cramps at night are no fun. :noway:
Rori: Sorry to hear that your broken left pinkie toe is sore. I hope you heal quickly. :flowerforyou:
DH has a physical therapy session this morning and I plan to go along. It seems to be doing him good.

Oh, good grief... I've just rescued the third cicada from my cat, Egg. She doesn't harm them when she picks them up, she just seems to like them because they buzz and flap and make noise. However, her playing with them once she brings them in the house isn't doing them any favors...
I really hate big, buzzy bugs. Still they're better than the mouse, snake and baby rabbit she brought in earlier in the year. If you don't like bugs, don't open, this is an image much like the one I just released back into the backyard.
Lisa in AR7 -
Lisa AR -I hate cicadas in the house! Outside noisy but there out so it’s okay. Inside they sound like a banchee screaming for revenge!
Daughter last package arrived also in pitiful condition! 5 boxes all were ripped to shreds! Not one in tact! Only things ruined was a backpack trying to fix it for her.Sone of her mail/papers covered in a pink goo! Cutting it off making copies of important stuff for her y shredded burned the rest! A 2yr old pair of beats headphones 🎧 ripped to pieces! Luckily everything else made it intact of course what the plane had was in mint condition. Not happy with the post office, but at least the computer stuff to her hand vacuum made it safe y sound! That lady going to get the worst review with a piece of my Mom mind attached! Disrespectful disgrace to treat anyone serving in any country this way!
Spring cleaning got to work off these restaurant calories!

Well I'm in the 230's and not the 240's. Since I have moved up here, I have noticed a SLOW downward trend, which I like. I don't think that I have lost much weight, but my clothes are fitting differently. So gaining more muscle from my 4times a week gym jaunts! I lost my lock and key somewhere, but they have locks that are combos like a safe, so I just use those.
Well last night was steaks and left over noodle side dish. I had made it earlier in the week Its the one you just add milk and butter to the packet. Well I just added more butter and milk and used the fettuccine noodles from the night before and voila, more noodles! Well I guess the leftovers weren't as current as I thought, maybe the milk had gone bad, but both son and husband were upset stomach all night, and many bathroom trips. I didn't know!!! I felt bad about it though!!

Another warm day here. Last evening after work I mowed and sprayed weeds for 4 hours. We have a double lot and I got about half mowed but all sprayed. DH said he would finish the mowing this morning as he goes to work at noon today.
Our friend did come to stay as they moved everyone out where she lives on the river outside of Wood River which is 15 miles from Grand Island. She said the water was up in the yard. From the news there is more water coming so she will be with us several days. She did say she has 4 feet of water in her basement before she left. This weather is crazy and scary.
DSIL is still holding on. DH talks to his other sister that lives down in Kansas just a couple miles away several times a day.
Heather--What nice gifts to remember your friend by.
Allie--I am sending prayers about your job hunt.
Time to get something done before time to leave work.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE2 -
I’ve been getting frustrated with the scale not dropping recently, then this morning I noticed that my muscle %age has gone up. It’s a reminder that there are other measures of progress besides weight. I’m pleased that all my strength work is paying off.
Katla: 😂🤣🤪 If I find that darned TARDIS, I’ll send it over to you!

Hello ladies! My very first post. Just a quick note to say "hi" and to let you know that I will be hanging out here for a while! Please bear with me as I figure out the intricacies of the forums/message boards! :-)
A little about me... I live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, have lost and gained more pounds than I can count and am hoping this will be the time that it all comes together for me. The goal is to lose weight as a result of becoming more healthy!7 -
Too hot to do anything out side. We had bad storm with 60 mph winds last evening. Lost power for four hours. It was 103 when the storm hit but it did cool down a bit.
It seems likely me I have no get up an go.

Kelly ... both of my parents have had the shingles vaccine, so has my husband. Despite receiving both the older version and the newer version of the vaccine, my dad has had shingles twice!
Janetr ... enjoy your visit with your daughter!
Rita ... was thinking about you today when I was having blood drawn for some lab work. The phlebotomist was concerned by the amount I had drawn and wanted me to take it easy and eat something because it was hot outside -- 88 degrees!! I can't imagine what she would have said to you after donating blood in the desert!
NYKaren ... I need to look up Peri Peri chicken. That sounds good to me!
I made a really good red cabbage slaw over the weekend for my diabetic brother-in-law. A oil/vinegar base and I used a small amount of stevia for him instead of the listed pure maple sugar. Red Cabbage, carrots, a little jalapeño, green onion, oil/vinegar, stevia/maple syrup, almonds and sunflower seeds. It kept getting better each day. My kind of recipe!!
Last night my husband and I went shopping for new carpet and vinyl plank or laminate flooring. The carpet is for the family room and needs to be high traffic tolerant as it's where my son in the wheelchair usually parks himself. And the laminate or vinyl plank is for his old bedroom. While we really don't think it's in my son's best interest to move back home (just delays the inevitable), his physician was quite upset with the evidence of poor care that he found at my son's annual physical. I will only be patient to a point while this certified setting gets its act together. My priority has been and always will be my son's well being.
But ... I am definitely back on track with the kettle bell routine and making what I consider better choices during my eating window! So that's something positive.
