Nice ideas Machka. The trouble is I don't feel like cooking. Most unlike me. Plus I do not want to go shopping.
I have managed to get out of the freezer two of the spinach and ricotta puff pastry rolls I was keeping for the nanny. Might as well eat them ourselves. I've only got to heat them up. Then I found two chorizo sausages in the bottom of the freezer, so we'll also have them and a butter bean salad. I've got some nice tomatoes to chop into it.
I am tired. Not a lot of sleep. Reading late, storms in the night and early waking.

Machka[/b] - so interesting about the home construction in your area, almost sounds like the tropics (from what I've read.) Your description takes me back to my childhood home, northern Indiana. No central heat/furnace, Dad put in an LP (Propane) gas heater in the living room and cut a hole in the ceiling above it to heat the upstairs where the kids' bedrooms were & stuck a register there. Insulation in the house built in the mid 1800's was lath & plaster, single pane windows. I can remember trying to find a warm place to lay out my books and do homework in the winter, and that's really the only complaint I recall having a childhood which, by today's standards, would be poverty in the US. Hot summer nights - we kids slept outside and thought it was exciting until the mosquitos chased us back inside.
Sometimes I feel like we're back in a "childhood home". There have been several times I've wondered why modern houses here are still using old technology ... they still talk about double glazing here like it is a brand new thing.
Another odd quirk is that a lot of houses here don't have upper cupboards. This is our kitchen, just before we moved in. We've got everything in the pantry on the right ... dishes, cups, glasses, and all our dry goods.
Anyway, I've finally finished organising my part of the dressing room!! I'm glad that's done! Last time I did anything with it was in 2015 and it's between gradually getting more and more cluttered.

Irish Teri ~ Congrats on your 53rd Anniversary and thanks for all the photos of the beautiful countryside you are visiting.
Rita ~ Congrats on your wonderful health news and weight loss.
Kay ~ Did you participate in the Dairy Queen ice cream day in Jefferson?
Bears ~ There was a bear swimming in a neighborhood lake near me. The houses surrounding the lake were very posh and I think the homeowners were a bit scared for their safety. There have been a lot of bears in the Atlanta area this year. They come down from the North Ga Mountains.
Heat: It’s been very nice here for the last few days. No humidity to make things feel hot and sticky. It will go back to normal this weekend. Connie ~ we lived on base at Ft Knox in 1970 and the house had one of those fans that was supposed to draw out/in cool air. It was very dated housing. Growing up, we also had no AC and it was sweltering in my bedroom because the windows had been painted shut. Poor insulation and no central heat (there was a floor furnace in the hall to accommodate a 9 room house). Finally got window air conditioning in a few of the rooms. When my brother took over the house, he had better insulation put in and central air and heat. The house is my age...71 in August.
I was blown away this morning by a news clip on Good Morning America that indicated a T-Rex skull had been found in Montana. ”...The researchers believe Tufts-Love is about 66.3 million years old, living just before the mass extinction event at the end of Cretaceous period that pushed dinosaurs into a steep decline.” The skull was 4 feet long. It is now in the Burkes Museum in Washington. On further reading, I realized that there were quite a few dinosaurs on exhibit in various museums.

M you are right having double pane windows does make a difference. Neighbor behind us was chain sawing their tree. The one were we finally last year had a tree trimmer take a branch off the wire. Shutting all the windows made a difference.
I had the strangest encounter yesterday. Our local Y has numerous road construction going on around it. Because of this there is only one way in and out. The turn is onto a very busy road. As I was getting ready to turn there was a pedestrian at the corner. I stopped to let her cross. It is the law here to yield to pedestrians. She was on her cell phone. To her credit she did put the phone down when she got to the corner. She did not immediately cross the road. I rolled down my window to tell her she is the pedestrian and she had the right of way. Someone else turned into her path from the busy road. All I said was be careful. They she proceeded to swear and cuss at me called me the B word and used the F word telling me she knew how to cross a road. I know drivers could have road rage but a pedestrian that you are trying to acknowledge and give the right of way. Disturbing. We have had a number of pedestrians killed here. She did finally safely cross the road. I safely made my turn too, but her actions made it more difficult.
This happened on the way to my eye exam. Good news everything great. No eye issues.
I do not know what driving is like where you live but here we have a lot of road construction and distracted drivers. As of August 1 we will become a hands free state. You can tell I am in favor of this new law.
I must see at least one accident a week here when I am out driving. Most of them are fender benders. My car is two and a half years old with 17,000 miles so I do not drive much nor do I care to.

We've got a couple nearby dogs that have astounding stamina with their barking. All day long!! If we had decent insulation in the walls and double glazing, I'm sure we'd hardly hear it.margaretturk wrote: »I do not drive much nor do I care to.
Me neither! I go weeks without driving which suits me just fine.

Happy Friday, Ladies! I'm playing catch-up here.
RVRita - Wonderful news on all fronts for you. Please tell us again your target metrics on carb grams. Also, do you isolate the sugar carbs as well? And what's your total weight loss to date?”
My starting weight was 210 March of 2016. Highest I’d ever been. Did WW for 6 months, lost 40 lbsthen put 30 back on. I am now 150 aiming for 145 but last 5 are slow going. My dream goal is 130.
My carb goal is only 20 net grams (I subtract fiber from total). I rarely go over 50 grams. I try to keep percents at 5% carb, 70% fats, and 25% protein and 1350 calories. I do not eat potatoes, wheat, corn, rice, grains, or added sugar. I use coconut and olive oils, full fat dairy (nothing low fat) nuts and avocados (make a killer guacamole) and water with electrolytes in it. Bacon, eggs (lots) and whipped cream. Stevia for sweetener. I use coconut, almond, or flaxseed flours to bake. And for fruitslow glycemic berries and only fruits in season limited.
I find I’m eating a lot like I did growing up. Seldom had fruit, small meat servings. Just omit potatoes and grains.

Machka: So happy to hear that you and your orthotics are a good team. I hope they’ll keep your feet happy for a long time. I think the lightweight plastic bags should be banned, but so far that hasn’t happened here. :ohwell:
Mary: I don’t know about everyone, but we have an airconditioned house, rv and both cars. Our boats are not airconditioned.
Rita: You are transforming yourself and even your doctor notices. WTG!!!
Beth: I am delighted that your “boot” has helped move things in a better direction. Pip is an excellent role model.
Heather: Enjoy your reunion! :flowerforyou:
Ginny in OH: Congrats on your good food choices at the County Fair. WTG!!! You’re doing great with exercise, too.
Karen in VA: I have lived in Western Oregon all of my life. In the 1950’s & 60’s, I lived in Salem, Oregon, the state capital. :flowerforyou: Now I live in Halloweentown, AKA St. Helens, next to the Columbia River.
Rebecca: Cute kitty. Is she yours?
Barbara: I am delighted that you are happy where you live. It is a blessing that I share.
Machka: Building a house to Canadian Standards is an excellent idea. I hope it is one that you are eventually able to do. Do you ever consider moving back to Canada?
Heather: “My brain is on strike.” Can I borrow this????? I hope you are able to get some rest and feel better.
Margaret: What is a “hands free” state? Does this include phones and turning around while driving to give a kid in a car seat a toy, food, or a lecture? It sounds like a good idea.
I plan to go to yoga this morning and to visit Arrow later today or tomorrow. I need to call his owner and let her know what has been going on that has kept me from being there sooner.

Katla ~ Hands Free means you may not use your phone while driving unless it is connected to a blue tooth device or positioned away from your person. Last week, there were policemen dressed as construction workers trying to catch folks using their phones while driving.3

Margaret- be careful yelling at a Road Rager ! Here in San Antonio we’ve had a few good people get shot or attacked by these Nut 🥜 jobs! Of course Daughter y me saw one Run over a man she got out of her van (her kids watching) yelled at the man under her van!!!!) officer 👮 told him he was at fault for wearing black clothes y public drunkenness on a cloudy day (luckily he was drunker than a skunk didn’t get hurt) .Then he got onto the Woman for not rendering aid ,noise ordinance for her yelling,y issued a cheaply payable ticket he went easy on her. She had to pay for any damage to her vehicle y the man herself of course!
Hands free device most cell phones now even tracphones have a button to push to make a call on SPEAKER 🔈. Or you can buy a hands free device ...Bluetooth, speaker attachment, car hook up for a navigation device in a car,etc just as long as the cell is not in your hands! For certain phones you need a device for that model like IPhones cause their picky!
Found an ant 🐜 colony show for kids y adults who love such things .JRs watching away it’s educational for the Grandkids this summer on YouTube.AntsCanada its called. JR is inthralled by it!

I hate being in a car. I haven't driven since I've lived in Hove. I'm also a very nervous passenger. There are many idiots on the road, as there are in life.
Having said that, the US has more than double the death rates than the UK. It has the worst rate of any developed country. From my quick research the West and South seems to be the worst. Seat belt use is erratic and kids get killed.
Cell phone use is a problem in both our countries, as is 'young drivers'. Awful things happen. For me a car is a loaded gun and I don't feel safe in one.
I fell asleep this afternoon and slept for an hour and a half. Wonderful! I do feel better but that means I won't sleep tonight! ! !
Houses in the UK are normally good stock and built of brick and tile. They are gradually getting better insulated and updated. New regulations mean new houses have to pass strict criteria for insulation and energy consumption. There are some apartments and houses that were built in the last century that are poor, but most people have double glazing and loft insulation. You can't get a mortgage on 'non standard construction'. Updating our Victorian housing stock is popular as people like the character. The quality varies enormously around the country. The sadness is that some old people are living in poorly insulated houses and can't afford decent heating.
Our house has proved to be ok in hot weather, probably because our south side is shaded by next door. It's the evenings that are the problem, but we have curtains and blinds. I love my fan.

Amber I did not yell at her. She cursed and yelled at me for just telling her in a normal voice she had the right of way as a pedestrian. I had a lot of traffic I had to be paying attention to and she was a distraction. I wanted her to cross so I could focus on the traffic and make my turn. To get that kind of reaction for trying to do the right thing is what I find disturbing.2

Machka: Your kitchen is sparkling clean and I love the color choices, but it seems very different not to have upper cupboards. I haven’t seen a kitchen like it before.
Margaret: What changes when a state becomes a hands-free state? My crazy brain envisions thousands of kids riding their bikes hands free in the streets, and I know that is silly. Do drivers have to keep their hands free of coffee cups, cigarettes, and the like?
Karen in VA: A Disney Movie, Halloween Town, was filmed here. People have been having fun with it ever since.
Peachy: Thanks for clarifying the hands-free law. I think it is very likely to save many lives. As an experiment I just told Siri on my phone to call home. It did, hands free once I set it up to do that. Now I can use it without touching it if I need to make a call while driving. That would be extremely rare in our family. If we’re together, which is frequent, the non-driver makes the calls.
Heading off to get a birthday present sent to our son.

https://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local_news/article/Bexar-County-leads-state-in-road-rage-altercations-3707876.phphttps://www.monkeymeter.com/citystats.phpMargaret- I live in Bexar County #1 Ranked in Road Rage Accidents.Just glad your safe those people scare me they don’t even need a reason to go off. Had one get out of their car mad at a red light because I wouldn’t run a red light pull into busiest area of oncoming traffic! He pulled my door open so I jumped out he saw my pregnant belly backed down luckily. Then he attacked an officer up the road who was on their way to work for turning their turn signal on. A bunch of cop cars wrestled him to the ground. We got some bad road ragers here! I won’t buy a car without airbags for both front passengers y side air bags.
Katla - It’s just for cell phones 📱. Folks still read newspapers to eat while driving screaming at their kids . They just have to put their cell phones on speaker (So wrecks with speaker on are people who can’t multitask while talking which should be a clue they need to turn it off or pull over to answer. Hands free state is just for cell phones.Different states it pertains to certain ages even.My state luckily is all ages it’s $400 fine.Your supposed to be off it completely in school zones in Texas.

Well JRs closet is done ✅.He had 2 Poop 💩 Explosions that he saved up just for this so scrubbed the house clean everywhere he touched except the tub.Gathering courage y strength for that next. JRs very happy 😃 giggly now.
Haven’t had time to use up my extra calories yet today but need too .Got to finish the tub tho first things first. Then clean up before I eat or anything. Ran out of time to walk but feel I did nothing but walk from closet to kitchen table then cleaning up a storm so exhausted.Hopefully I burnt some sort of calorie. Hubby will be home for JRs nails y lotions 🧴 soon but first he’s fighting traffic to finish at a job site. Long day tomorrow will be a day of rest y walking.
JRs happy with his handful of munchies y ant 🐜 show. He’s talking more so he surprised me y the pizza 🍕 kid with his food critic complaints. My Son can sound like his father y grandfathers rolled into one.
Calls his Father “Daddy-o “ tells him to swing lol 😂. JR was so serious about his “Our last pizza did not have enough sauce!” That the millennial told him to file a complaint with his manager said sorry.I kept thinking as JR kept going on about how he wants sauce we paid for sauce! The young man gave his coworkers name said he made the pizza not him he didn’t know if it has sauce. I couldn’t believe how dumb of a conversation I was watching he’s 2 he won’t call your boss he can’t work a phone yet he’s in a diaper not a suit! I tipped the poor kid sent him on his way. JR should have said there was no cheese on it last order was somebody who ordered extra sauce, less cheese, pepperoni,y mushrooms 🍄 was definitely not our pizza 🍕. I don’t tell them but I only give good reviews to them because half of them are polite teens learning their first jobs...apparently their easy to push around even by 2yr olds bet their boss tramples them!

Terri - happy Anniversary!!
Rita - congratulations on all the great health news! you go!!

I'm still consumed with taking care of these guinea pigs. It's been an interesting ride. We got their new cage and I'm not sure they know what to do with all the room - and neither do we. It's a little more difficult to figure out how to clean it out and, of course, it's more expensive because you have to use so many more shavings. I'm going to try my hand at sewing and make some fleece cage liners with an absorbent inner lining. Have lots of tutorials online to go by, but I'm not that great with a sewing machine. But hey, at least it's getting me out of my comfort zone and giving me something new in life, which has been an issue with me as of late... been feeling mighty "stuck" because my life is very good in a couple areas.. but in others is sorely lacking. Every time Machka posts that wheel with all the important areas of life, I think to myself - wow, I am really falling short in a few areas!

Interesting discussion regarding various housing standards. My home is a brick ranch, build in 1956. No real wall insulation but not too bad. Should probably get attic insulation replaced/added to but haven't had the motivation for that. Since my husband passed in 2015 I have had windows replaced, new roof and remodeled the 1956 kitchen. Was going to have oak floors refinished, but dealing with that with two cats seemed too overwhelming. I had a decent quality laminate put throughout upstairs (that way, the house has oak floors!). Figured that was not so very different from wall to wall carpet (which I personally hate). Next job is replace interior doors (tried painting the old pine veneer doors, didn't really work), so I am going to replace them and closet doors with white doors. Hope to get that set up in the next few weeks, then upstairs will be in good shape. Will address the basement next year. Just trying to get some necessary updates done so house will be in condition to sell if I decide to move after retirement. In the meantime, I am enjoying the finished improvements husband and I always talked about but he always said would cost too much.
Had a scare at work today-staff member had possible fentanyl exposure. Got her to hospital who determined if there was one, it was minimal. Still took steps to clean area. She is home and doing well. All associated staff handled emergency well. Learned a couple things about our procedures we need to tweak. Even though you have a plan for such things, you always learn something, Thankfully this is only second time we have had to put protocol in action.
One of the reasons I got my new car a couple of years ago was to have hands free ability for calls. I only have my personal phone synced, but key staff at work have my personal number to call when I am on the rode. It just seems more people are angry, whether driving or walking.
Hope everyone's weekend gets off to a good start.

Well, Tami home - hopefully recuperating from a cyst that had exploded on one of her; Will slept on the sofa (probably a recliner. He went on to take the girls home and turned around and went to Baton Rouge. I am unclear if they went home before going back home or what. The Natchez, MS ER/hospital is in bad condition. So that is why they were told to go to Jackson, MS or Baton Rouge, LA. They did surgery on her earlier this week (or late last week. Today we got a call from Trey and during their cruise and Trey fell and broke his ankle or leg (not sure which), and is supposed to go back in 2 weeks; I think he can go to an Orthopedist here (but, their friends live in Chipley, FL). On crutches, so that upsets Louis. He really needs him working.
In Georgia hands-free is not contained to just cellphones. They will also stop you from eating and drinking as well. Louis doesn't use his flip phone and lets Trey do all the phone stuff.
As for bikers - they are supposed to ride according to traffic, not pedestrians (on the same side as the traffic flows, and are supposed to stop at stop signs, and wait for the light to change. Now, in NY they have these people riding scooters. Saw one cross over 5 lanes of traffic. Stupid really is as stupid does. Reading C.J. Cox books, Louis got me started on those.
Not much happening down here in SWGA - other than it has been 'hot'!!!!! We grew up in a large 2-story house. In the upstairs hall, he had someone put in a commercial fan. When we had our windows open (lined drapes) it would pull them out 3 or 4 feet into the room. Daddy finally had an on and off switch so he could turn it on or off

Sorry I am way behind DSIL passed away Tuesday morning so several more trips to Kansas to help with arrangements. Funeral is tomorrow morning. That was just before we moved in. It is a lot fuller than that now.
It's the same colour scheme ... in fact, so are the dining room and living room. Those three rooms are kind of open plan. Our furniture is wood, sand, taupe etc. so we've kind of got a bit of a beach colour scheme.
This was taken just after we moved in, while we were waiting for the bulk of our furniture. The kitchen is off to the right, and there's another big window off to the left. The house is quite high so I've kind of nicknamed it our "tree house" because we're eye-level with the tops of the trees.

I have read and caught up but haven’t made any notes tonight.
I was awoken this morning by some trrruble news that my cousin passed away last night. She and I are the same age, exactly 3 months between us. I am in shock and so heartbroken for her children, husband and brother. Her parents passed away 16 months apart last year and the year before. Over the last two years she had really taken control of her health and had lost 70 pounds, had her diabetes under control and was off all meds.
I am just shaken by this one.

Did some HIIT today. The plan for tomorrow is to do Gilad’s Ultimate Cuts and Curves DVD. This is a new one for me so we shall see.
After exercise went to WalMart to get Vince a few things. Before I leave for the soup kitchen I think I’ll stop at Dollar General and get another one of the knee pads. Update: The DG near me doesn't have them so looks like I have to go to the other DG
M – do you have heated floors there? I know they do in Switzerland. That’s interesting that your kitchens don’t have any upper cabinets. Never heard of something like that.
Lisa – I hope you feel better soon. Really liked the post about “being ready to fly”
Heather – was reading about the very high temps in Paris and thought of you. You…not feel like cooking??????
Margaret – unfortunately, NC isn’t a hands free state. Many states are which is why I love my Bluetooth. Wish more states would go hands free.
Made taco sliders for tomorrow. All I need to do is bake them. Just finished making the shrimp orzo salad. I probably should have had more shrimp in it
Question: what app do you all use for navigation?’
Vicki – my condolences on the loss of your SIL. Congrats on the new vehicle
Tracey – so sorry about your consin.
