Michele Yep, I agree about Waze shortcomings, but it is still the best navigator app I know of. For example, when we recently went to a race track for my grandson's birthday Ferrari ride, Waze took us off I-95N for about 3 miles. We could see a traffic jam up ahead...there had been an accident...Waze routed us around the accident before it was too late to be able to get off I-95N, which got us there on time. Grateful! If there is a better one out there, I don't know about it...
Barbara Yep, stepdaughter (partner's biological daughter) is taking the kids to France in September to be with her in-laws to determine if she wants to live there permanently. If she stays, I guess her green-carded, estranged husband will probably be forced to follow within a year. The in-laws have been encouraging her to move there for some time, and she apparently has decided to give it a try. . To be clear, the French grandparents love the kids & want the best for them. They have several homes and lots of money. The kids would want for nothing. We could fly there to visit them (just as the French grandparents do now.)

Hope it is/was a peaceful Sunday for all and sundry.
The last couple conference days let me know how out of shape I truly am... glad I got that gym membership to get that back in progress. Total 23,000 steps in the last two days, and my body's feeling every one of them. Nice to know that I CAN do that, but now I need to get back to doing it for myself, and not just for work. Feel like I've been worked over by a Girl Scout using a crowbar.
Rori - hope all the memories it brought back were good ones! Conferences, when you're the one putting them on, are exhausting, but considering I'm on the revenue side of the equation, the ROI of it all stays uppermost. There's a reason why this council was number one in ALL councils of all sizes across the nation in FY18 for volunteer satisfaction.
But back home, slept well, and for me for a long time, and glad to have no travel on my calendar noted for the foreseeable future. I need time to get back into a workout routine, and to get to the gym regularly, and make it a positive addiction. Lots of inspiration here to do that, and I'm grateful for y'all.
Later, y'all,
Love,

Good morning all! Happy Sunday!
Tracey- So sorry for the loss of your cousin! Unexpected deaths are so hard! Sending you love!
Rebecca-In regards to Christmas without the family; it is really hard to adjust to this empty nest at Christmas. THE GOOD THING IS: Christmas can be celebrated whenever you are together! I know it is not the same, but the day we celebrate Christmas is just a calendar date chosen long ago, anyway. What has become helpful for me on family holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas is we volunteer ON those days. We do our volunteer work in neighboring towns (Muskegon or Grand Rapids) because Grand Haven doesn't have much of a homeless problem or a shelter. That way we are celebrating and giving the gift of family to people who don't have it at that time (like us). It is a gift that gives back to us. IF we didn't do this, I know Tim and I would just be sitting around the house wishing the kids were there and it would just feel like an ordinary day. So...we do this for purely selfish reasons. lol I am thinking this year about having a "community table" and renting a room downtown to celebrate the holiday and putting the word out to the community, inviting others who are "celebrating" like we are.
Karen VA- Ugh! Kids/grandkids moving overseas! That was always a fear of mine; that (Lauren especially) would relocate to France and I wouldn't be able to see her/them. BUT...something I learned while living in Mexico. Visiting a place and actually living there are two entirely different beasts! IF this is something that they decide they want to do; do they have the freedom (career-wise) to try it short term (6 months to a year)?
Machka- I love the colors of your home! As a matter of fact, the blue and yellow are the palette I chose for this house when we moved in. I stayed with that palette for over 20 years; and just last year stepped out of my comfort zone and into the cooler palette of blues and grays. I often see kitchen with no upper cupboards in pictures of homes located in other countries. Many places just use open shelves to store things. I love that look. I think Americans tend to have more "stuff" in their kitchen, so we always want the upper cupboards.
Heather- Has your heat wave let up? Hope you get some rest before you have to entertain again!
Our little town is kicking off the beginning of Coast Guard Festival! This is the time of year where all of the locals avoid the downtown area (jk, but many do), and over half a million people will flood into the two square miles that is our downtown area to tour Coast Guard ships, ride carnival rides, watch parades, watch fireworks, eat carnival food, etc. Yesterday, Tim and I went down and watched our oldest son and his girlfriend run in the CG 5K run. They crossed the finish line, hand in hand. (how sweet!) We left so I could do my grocery shopping, then returned down town for the Cardboard Boat Races. Participants build boats out of cardboard and have to paddle them out to a bouy and back. Winner gets a trophy and bragging rights for a year. Very fun, but the lake and river were very wild, yesterday, and the current kept taking the boats out further than intended; making a lot of extra paddling work for the "sailors". All of the races and events raise funds for our Coast Guard/ Coast Guard families. Back in 2008, my daughter Lauren, was the Coast Guard Youth Ambassador (they got rid of the CG Queen/pageant style competition in 2005 and renamed it Youth Ambassador so that it would also be open to boys). I learned that year, that they also have many dinners and ceremonies to honor members of the coast guard and welcome new leadership/commands as well. Anyway, it is a BIG week for our town. I usually take the kids downtown on Tuesdays for Kid's Day; but I have three under two and a half this year and there is NO WAY I am taking the group by myself. I know my limitations. With the two youngest still needing two naps a day, we would be a walking train wreck by lunch time!
Barbie and Amber- Thank you so much for the books/book recommendations! I absolutely love the science books for babies by Chris Ferrie! So clever and simply written/illustrated! General Relativity for Babies and Quantum Physics for Babies! I am writing thank you notes to the senders. For those of you who don't know or understand what a kid would get from these books, it is simply introducing the terms (with very simple explanations). I can remember as a middle school aged kid, being so frustrated with science and math concepts and terminology. Introduce it early; and maybe it will take away some of the frustration!
Well, today is my "getting things done" day. I mowed the lawn last night, so I need to FIRST take a walk and pick some milkweed leaves for my newly hatched/hatching today monarch caterpillars (did I mention I found five Monarch eggs Friday; brought them home and am attempting to "raise" them?), then I need to weed and dead head the roses. If I have time I will get a little painting (wall touch ups) done. Not going to sweat it if it doesn't happen though. I got some food prep done yesterday morning (a dozen black bean burgers, inside out egg roll, and marinated and grilled Shish Taouk chicken), but I need to wash and prep veg, otherwise I will not make good choices with my meals this week. I weigh in tomorrow, so I will see if my splurge day (with my sister) has had any effect on my weight. On the flip side, though, I have been walking a LOT the past two weeks and have upped my resistance/weight lifting this week. I am starting to feel the definition in my legs and arms again (can't see it yet). So...if I have gained a pound or two, that could also be why.
time for me to fly and get busy with things! Love and hugs to you all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)9 -
Hello ladies. I am unhappy with my results. I do well during the week, and horrible on the weekend, and now my weight hasn't dropped at all. And there's another picnic next weekend. Hmm. I guess I either have to take my own meal, or eat very lightly before and after. I'm probably just feeling discouraged because I'm tired. My dog won't let me sleep in after a night out. We went to a minor league baseball game 2 hours away. It was good fun, with fireworks after.
I want to lose seven pounds by Sept 1. I joined a challenge for it. But I have this social eating problem. I don't feel deprived unless someone else is eating in front of me. Which happens all too often. This has got to stop.

Great NSV for me yesterday! I am no longer a diabetic with my A1C down to 5.1!! My liver has healed as well! Doc has cut my BP meds in half, lowered my thyroid meds, and removed 2 supplements that I no longer need which all were contributing to my bowel issues and lightheaded symptoms of late! Feel better all ready! Still have to visit gastroenterologist and cardiologist to make sure all is good. I’m also only 5 pounds away from a normal weight for my height and age. All this improvement since starting the LCHF way of eating in December! First time in 35 years I’ve had a great results at doc! I’m usually getting...
That’s wonderful news Rita.2 -

(((Rebecca))): Our kids want us to come and visit them, but DH’s health is not cooperating at this point. I understand how it feels to be too far apart. Thanks for your kind words regarding Arrow. I have to confess that I would not have done the same thing outside of the arena. I could do it outside with a halter and loose lead rope on him, but wouldn’t risk hands free with no available controls. :noway:
Rori: We used to watch the dragon boat races on the Willamette River in Portland. They’re quite a stunning sight, one that we haven’t had the opportunity to see in a few years. The boats are works of art. I’m sorry you weren’t able to see them yesterday. :ohwell:
Meg in Omaha: It is good to see you posting again.
Kim: I lived in a house similar to yours during my grade-school years. We had a basement, and when things were too brutally hot we’d go down there. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a finished basement. There was a monster furnace with octopus pipes leading to rooms on the main floor, and there was also a washing machine with two big sinks beside it. There were clotheslines down there for use in the winter and an “umbrella” clothesline in the back yard. I have good memories of that old house.
Machka: Thanks for sharing your make things easier list. I’m copying it. It is brilliant.
Michelle: Drinking water while you’re the driver is not a great idea, but if you’re taking turns driving with your DH you can drink your water while he is driving or stop at a roadside rest area to use the facilities and get yourself hydrated. :flowerforyou: :ohwell:
Rebecca: We’ve had empty nest Christmas for several years and I understand how it feels. It sucks. DH won’t willingly fly again because of his health issues. I don’t want to leave him home alone so we're likely to have many empty nest Christmases in years to come.
We have no plans for today but Monday we’re taking DH’s car to Volkswagon. We paid them to repar it about a year ago and their repair didn’t work. It now randomly makes a loud “clunk” while going down the road. Yikes!

Annie D- it’s a slow process my weight trickles off then pours off then trickles. Bring your own food less awkward plus you can sit y enjoy 😉. Then if you eat what’s there go for the healthy stuff they brought to add to your own. Takes time to get into the swing of a new life style ,but you’ll get it we all struggle with the same issues. Perhaps bring along a Tupperware with premade salad 🥗 (watch dressing calories I use 0 calorie dressing from Walden Farms or Amazon has Primal kitchen y skinny girl y many more) can bring your own BBQ sauce They make some as low as 0cal (G Hughes,Walden Farms,Stubbs, many more) plus some chicken with no skin in a ziplock bag or Tupperware.Sandwhich ...so many choices.http://redtri.com/to-grandmothers-house-we-go-25-kid-proofing-safety-tips/Grandparents Safety Proofing for the babies visits this year (especially ages 0-4yrs old). A lot of the things that happened as kids in the past are a no go legally now. Plus I know your thinking well when I was a kid....
https://www.travelinsurancereview.net/2013/01/21/steps-to-baby-proof-a-room-when-you-travel/
https://www.carnival.com/awaywego/cruising-fun/how-to-plan/how-to-childproof-a-stateroom
Keep in mind not all ships safety proof as good y being held in someone arms can lead to baby falling if looking over railings.
Step back look at the big picture not just you even your hyper cousins to siblings or parents stories about when they were little ... how many oopsies were there? Tractor 🚜 turned on in a field, injury from a rooster 🐓 to the face, the broken vase 🏺 that was treated like an unforgivable act, things your parents never found out about ever or until you were adults lol, fall from a loft, falls,The rat poison incident!
Lots of bumps, bruises, bandages that back then no big deal. Now a baby sitter to Doctors alert cops ,CPS,Government offices,y a in-law mad at the kids for allowing them to visit an unsafe environment judgement (could be your poor Daughters MIL wagging a finger or your DIL’s Family). If their family is bad (like my moms was) they call on the kids for it (yes was held by CPS in a hospital once thanks to then luckily my Dads Mom rescued me by showing medical proof but everyone walked on eggshells no bumps or bruises allowed) .Im lucky 🍀 both sides aren’t that way for JR but not telling my Moms side nothing since a simple splinter leads to harassment. Our city too many hospital visits is bad so is no visit so it’s a lot of padding in my home. Something I never had to do with Daughter 20yrs ago I see the difference it’s so Wow odd. Many states to countries don’t allow a kid under 13 to play out in the yard unsupervised or walk to the park or convienient store (lol we had real jobs at that age). Plants even Christmas ones can be poisonous ☠️ .Pets/animals who scratch, jump, y bite or too old to be terrorized need to be put in a separate room so Baby is safe on the floor not being held above the kids heads making them rethink visits. Medical things are great for you but baby doesn’t need a diabetes needle or pill 💊 to find. Daughter found my Dads rat bar 20yrs ago under his bed back then hospital with understanding doctors making sure none was swallowed (she chewed it thought it was a granola bar). Now someone would be in jail lots of family service visits. Since I was at the Dentist 🦷 while my parents were having grandparents day would have been Dad on the news!
Also on vacations safety one squirming baby fell from a cruise ship from grandpa arms killing her recently. He said he would never forgive himself.None of us need to have this happen.I worked for hotels before have seen the worst (no one wants to find a baby wander out of the room into the pools or near cleaners on a hall way cart or the kid we got loose from a toilet 🚽 (was holding on to a toy car wouldn’t let go of it lol 😂).
No one wants a balcony falls or window fall. I requested y moved hotel rooms 20yrs ago when Daughter found a unlatch-able window in our hotel room (1 yrs old) with no screen ! She was persistent once she found it cause a doggie 🐶 was outside. Dad has a rooster to the face as a 1yr old permanent scars. Cousins age 6&12 found tractor 🚜 keys drove through the garage door caving in the whole work garage! I was 4 they searched the debris for me then heard me talking to the cows on the wrong side of a barb wire fence!

Barbara - I saw an article yesterday about bears in the Rockies that have had to be put down this year because they had gotten into human food. Once they have had it, they become more aggressive trying to find it. They can’t just be relocated because there is nowhere that will take them once they’ve had the food. It’s quite a sad state for the bears. Do you have a fish and wildlife department you can call for guidance?
Kate in UK -I’m noticing that problem as well. If I go back out to the page where you just click community it lets me in without logging in. This happened a while ago and I thought they had fixed it.
Empty Nest Christmas - I am so thankful that we haven’t had a complete empty nest Christmas yet. One daughter has been here with her family for at least a couple hours every year. The other has been alternate years. They either do Christmas Day here or in Manitoba. The years they are in Manitoba we do Christmas usually on New Year. I have invited a lot of single friends or small families for Christmas and it has made for a fun day. Our place is too small to do it now and I really miss it.
Kitchen cabinets- our place here has the least number of upper cabinets I have ever had. I have two tall cabinets and two short. There are also two open shelves. I have learned how to stay 100% organized and I don’t buy extras ever.
I have been struggling terribly with my diet and my hip is not allowing me to get my walks in. I really need to start being stricter with myself.
My heart and soul just aren’t into it right now I guess. I need to get that to change.
Still don’t know what happened to my cousin, they have posted the obituary yesterday so I’m sure the family knows the results now. I may find out tomorrow night. I am so heartbroken for her family and I am finding it so hard to believe still all at the same time.
Yesterday, Kaitlyn came out and showed us her wedding video the highlight reel and the unedited ceremony. It was beautifully done.
The photographer also gifted them 100 printed pictures. It was so nice to hold the picture in my hand and look through them. I need to print some more pictures.

Happy Sunday all
Weekend social eating is tricky for me as well. 2 things help, I make sure to up my calorie burn with exercise, eat before I go to the bbq, and have a super large glass of water with me the whole time I’m there so I feel full (and dont drink alcohol). The only problem with this last strategy is the fact I have to use the bathroom frequently
Got in my 3 miles treadmill today, and cleaned up in the kitchen so feel like superwoman Meal planning and a to do list are in my future.

Went for my run first thing this morning. Lots of people out running, cycling, swimming, walking. I came back and did a bit extra on the bike to make up the calories.
With the calories burned on a solo supermarket shop this afternoon I've nearly got to my daily norm.
My knee has decided to complain. It has been clicking a bit recently and now is very stiff. I hope it goes off.
KJ - The heatwave has gone. Thank goodness. I do have my friend arriving tomorrow afternoon from Glasgow. I shopped for a nice meal for her today. Will cook it tomorrow morning. I've also bought lovely biscuits and starter nibbles. It's a Moroccan theme. We will go together to the school reunion on the train on Tuesday. Then meet up with 'the girls' at Horsham Station, before getting a taxi to the house where they are holding it. I have not been sleeping at all well and feeling a bit down and apprehensive. I'm gradually getting back my enthusiasm at last.
I've arranged for the cleaner to come first thing tomorrow, so I've just got to make her bed and move my stuff out of the bathroom. Sweep the front path etc.
On the Wednesday I have the ex nanny and grandchildren coming for lunch. I was going to go to some trouble, but my son says she hardly eats anything and is very picky, so it's going to be various fancy rolls, chicken, sausages and salad filler bits to make their own. Homemade ice cream and lollies.
I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, but it's all coming together. Not sleeping makes it hard. Not much more than three hours. I should think most of us are nervous about the school year reunion. I know a couple of my close friends are.
I've done my hair roots, my toenails (blue) and my fingernails (clear).
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx4 -
Facebook it is so inconsiderate and rude when you find out important information about close relatives and friends on social media rather than a phone call. It happened to me a few times and I get so angry and sad- feel ignored and left out when that happens.
GPS apps I like WAZE on long trips. Great for construction area warnings and other traffic problems ahead of you. I do find the connection drops at times. I use the iPhone app or Google maps when I’m staying local.
My weight has stalled but partly my fault. I’ve been making friends with Michelob Ultra celebrating my good doc Report this week. Also bowel change to normal has me gaining a little. Got to get back on track! I don’t want to lose all the hard work I’ve done to get this far!

For the introverts among us, I have been reading a very helpful and amusing book by Jessica Pan, called, "Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want To Come." I'm really enjoying it.
I have been feeling a lack of local friends and she has some good ideas abut how to go about finding some. It's also excellent about stepping out of your comfort zone. A good, light read.

Tracey - Big Hugs!
Annie - We went to a neighbors for dinner last night. I took a big salad (my bowl has separate pockets for the toppings with the center for lettuce so everyone can take what they want/like) so Hubs could have a salad and then eat a bit of the bbq and fixins. I took a separate salad for myself in a ziploc bag with my normal dinner salad in it and just dumped it on a plate when everyone else started fixing there plates. I had one rib end from the spread that was laid out and that was it. Oh wait, that's a lie, I had a cube of cantaloupe . I had lost all of my weight, but gained a bunch back when I got lazy and started eating everything in sight. I am now back "in my zone" so I can be around food and not want it because it doesn't fit into what I already logged and what I have accounted for.
Okie in the TX Hill Country5 -
The reason most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want the MOST for what they want at the MOMENT.
When I stopped eating at parties and potlucks, I was amazed at how many other people I met who did the same. There are many reasons for not eating food prepared by others. I started putting more attention to the people at the event and less to the food and found that it was a very satisfying way to spend the time.
On Friday there was a small party for the birthday of the woman who helps and encourages everyone. I was offered food even though nearly everyone knows that I have strict eating rules. One person assured me that there was fruit and surely I could eat that. I politely declined, admired the food, and walked away. I still remember how it felt to be the heaviest woman in the class and I don't ever want to go back to that.
Heather, I looked up the book you recommended and it sounds great. I am on a waiting list to get it.

I forgot to mention …I no longer need the beta blocker for arrythmia, the tablet for mild high cholesterol, or two of the medications to manage my arthritis pain. My fibromyalgia is still there, but milder and more easily managed. My physical health at 76 is better than it ever was in my 60s or earlier 70s. My family tends to have long-lived women, except for my mom, whom cancer took at age 43. I had the bypass because I don't want to spend those years in a recliner as several of my older relatives did. My trip to CA last week was a test run for how Mexico will do in September. Solo travel is great! I'll probably socialize with some of the folks at the hostel in the guest city I visit. There's a nude beach near my second destination, so will look for fellow nudists there. I expect to have a memorable time! And this surgery will have made it possible.

Anniesquats- The ladies have given you a lot of good suggestions when it comes to overindulging at bbqs/picnics/reunions. Walk a little further, do a little something extra activitywise, bring your own food, don't attend. All good suggestions. IF you are like me and find that you love those picnic foods that you only get when the family/gang gets together; my suggestion is this: take ONE BITE (not one piece or one helping), ONE BITE of everything. Load up on the green salads, fresh fruit and veggies (careful with dips), have a portion of lean meat if it is offered without a lot of sauce/fixins. But ONE BITE of that macaroni salad, baked bean dish, potato dish, taco salad. Just one bite. AND stick with water so that you aren't adding drink calories. You might go over your calorie; but if you add a little extra exercise you could come out even. You can do this!
Rita- Not sure how I keep forgetting about you! You have done an amazing job with taking control over your life/lifestyle and improving your health! I just love to read about your successes and all of your adventures in Bottomless Lakes Park! You are an inspiration!
Lisa- Home again, home again, jiggety jig! "Worked over by a girl scout with a crow bar..." That made me spit coffee this morning!
Outdoor work is done. Four of my Monarch eggs have hatched, so I have taken my walk to collect fresh milkweed for them to eat. Yesterdays hatchling got his stripes today and he is about 3 mm long, he has his own container so that he doesn't eat the others. Today's hatchlings are about 2 mm long and a greenish color with black heads. The three of them will share a container. The fifth egg is probably going to hatch tomorrow. I love this! It is like having teeny, tiny babies! that don't cry or have smelly diapers!

Sharon - Your Mexico trip sounds wonderful. I'm sure you will make connections with people and how great that you now feel able to take this adventure. Solo travelling has its difficulties, but so does group travelling. It's all about the attitude. In the book I'm reading there are tips for solo travelling. Sending lots of love and encouragement.
My Glasgow friend has emailed me, so we are all set for her arrival tomorrow. I will meet her at the station after she has texted her arrival time and walk back with her. My DH is often unhelpful in these situations. He has always been the same, according to his sister, so I don't take it personally. He was brought up to be self reliant and hates asking for help himself.

Hi gals. Today is a cloudy day (supposed to have some rain) and I am trimming evergreen bushes in the front yard. Had no idea, but they are out well over a foot onto the walkway! I have some other piddly things to accomplish, then want to relax this evening, something I rarely do. I’m a little disappointed that even with hardly any appetite, I’m not losing weight. I’m eating way less than before. Maybe it’s saving itself up and will give in and go away in a batch? I only have 60 more days of the phenteramine.
Machka: That’s kind of how I started organizing the shoes! Now I’m on to bras. I will bet I have 40. I’m sorry for the loss of your friend. You have some great advice there.
Michelle: drinking water leads to distracted driving? That’s nuts
Allie: I can barely figure out the remotes!
KJ: your Coast Guard festival sounds like so much fun! I would love to watch the cardboard boats. Where are you exactly? Dd you raise butterflies?
Kevrit: that is awesome! Good for you. I thought MY A1C was good at 5.7% You are an inspiration! And I totally agree with you on facebook. We’ve had some family deaths we didn’t know about because we didn’t have facebook at the time.
