Today is National Happiness Happens Day!
"On this day each year just let it happen. You know. Happiness. Because happiness happens. The day encourages happiness all day. Recognize every moment of glee, joy, delight, and pleasure. Don’t let it pass. Most importantly, a flicker of a giggle should be given its due and should it blossom into full-blown happiness, don’t be surprised. It happens!"
Heather - I picture you spreading your fingers and muttering, "Cheese, Grommit!" over your Camembert!
Debby - Funny how some animals just seem to have the knack for knowing when you don't feel well. Our Maine Coon doesn't have that particular trait, but I had a Siamese mix that did. Not only would he sit on me when I was ill, I found him curled up on top of our lovely old greyhound Rosie when she was in pain.
Amber - Wishing you luck on your diet! The P.A. at the clinic I go to is really keen to get me on a statin drug for cholesterol but my blood work has improved significantly the last two times they've checked, so I'm refusing until such time as I stop making progress through diet and exercise. I get so tired of all the conflicting directions - cut down on red meat, eat red meat once a week, do this, do that - and have concluded that it isn't healthy to worry as much about every detail of our diet as the medical profession would have us do.
Cherie - Bet Minnie and Albie are enjoying the air conditioning too! We're in the process of making a catio for our boys, but I suspect they won't want to spend a whole lot of time out there until the weather cools off.
Sheila - Welcome! You can do this!
I can't believe it's almost the weekend again. Where does the time go? Philip and I have been on a strict program of staying at home and making a punch list of tasks for finish every weekend. It is really helping with the backlog of unfinished projects, and keeping the list short and focused lets us feel like we were productive while still getting some time off. This weekend: Finish the catio (I'll post a picture when it's done) and spruce up the front porch.
Wishing you all happiness today, and if you are struggling, the faith that happiness will happen again sooner or later if you just hang in there.
-Yvonne in TX6 -
Shelia-- Welcome and just take it one step at a time. It will get easier with time. Important thing is not to give up.
I am caught up and my mind is not tracking well today. Just in a strange mood. I am off work the next 3 days.
As tomorrow I have an appointment with the eye doctor. Have to go see a regular ophthalmology doctor as my insurance will not pay this year for the clinic I have been going to for years. I am not looking forward to it, as I feel it is a test I can not pass. Then after that is my 6 month checkup with my regular doctor. Got my lab work done and my AC1 was 5.5 which is down from 5.8 six months ago.
Then I am off the weekend and planning a swimming party with as many of the grandkids that want to come. Going to the new pool they just build in Wood River about 15 miles from here.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE7 -
Heather, so sorry to hear of your friends with cancer, it really is such a devastating disease.
Meg, safe travels!
Lisa and Tracey, add me to the list of folks for whom the computer is a mixed blessing! I am frequently astounded by how quickly we have come from "what computer?" to "what do you mean the computer is down??!"
Tracey[/b,] sure hope you can avoid that flu
Rita, isn't it infuriating when our spouse says "I'm fine" to you but then says to other people that there is a problem! My hubby is the opposite. Before he got his herniated disc diagnosis, in the hospital bed, I ask him what's your pain level, he says 7-8, the nurse comes in asks how he's feeling "oh, not bad" he says. I did pipe up at that point and she did give him the second shot of pain killer. She was going to leave without giving him the other shot because of his answer to her! Arrgh!!
Lanette, you said it perfectly! I too reply in my head, but it doesn't always make it out my fingers!
Machka, hope you start feeling better soon and that the writing starts to flow better for you.
I have ridden my bike to work two days in a row now, great calorie burn! Sure was happy to get home and into the air conditioning tho! It was warm! I only worked til 1:30 yesterday, so going home in the midday heat, today I work til 6 so it will be a bit better, I think. I'm getting a bit better on the bike too, more confident. Still not enough to drive on the road, the streets that I would have to ride on are major ones, so I much prefer our commuter/recreational trail, it's 3k longer, but well worth it for safety's sake.
That's all I can remember now! Hope everyone has a great day! Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

So the new carpet was installed yesterday. It looks great. For once I had no complaints with a contractor (I went and got a lottery ticket as a result! ). But my gosh, does it smell! Very strong "new carpet" odors. Even with the humidity, I have all the windows and doors open and the fans running. It's giving me a headache.

Thanks and hugs for all the "welcome back" messages.
I'm in frantic, worried mode and not thinking clearly right now so nothing more to say right now. For anyone so inclined please send thoughts or prayers for my beloved Max kitty to kindly get his rear end back home before dark tonight. He went missing yesterday.11 -
My apologies for almost my entire previous post being bold, I tried to fix it, but couldn't see where I had gone wrong. I see it now, of course......

Heather UK – sorry to hear news of your friends.
TerriRichards – thank you for helping not feel so slow! I also am not letting myself start a new one until I finish one (but I may need an easier break from this one!)
Janet OKC – nice steps!
Carol in GA – Prayers for brother in law. Hope all goes well. They do amazing things with heart surgeries today
Miakoda40 -I do hope Max finds his way home. Mine will roam for a bit, and sometimes stay out overnight, but then come back in and sleep for a day.
Just had a strong rain storm move through-lasted 25 minutes or so—raining sideways. Hope it was enough to help my lawn which is bone dry (I just don’t like watering grass). Will need to over the weekend though to try to help out the yard-don’t want to have to replace all of the grass. From the looks of things, we may get more. Earlier this summer we were praying for the rain to stop—terrible spring/early summer for the farmers, now praying for some rain to return.
Not much new in my world, which is actually how I like it. Going to get my little exercise routine in. Going to try to add a few more kettlebell reps tonight. Happy to say that things are toning up, which is probably more what I need than more weight loss (although 5 more pounds would be nice). Not going to worry about it much-weight loss seems to still be averaging .5 a week and my calories are 1440, and I eat back most of my exercise calories. Figure when that stops, I go to maintainence.

I have read all the posts, but my mind is too tired to comment. I walked over 15000 steps today and Fitbit recorded 188 minutes activity. Didn't get my business with my step brother sorted, but we are working on it.
Hugs to those who need them.

Taught my water exercise class at the YM today. Doing well with not eating between meals. Find I am drinking more water which is probably what I needed in the first place. I read all posts but do not respond to all except in my head.
Heather - So sorry for your friends. I was looking at pictures the other day for my mom and found pictures of my two room mates from college who have both passed away, one from breast cancer and one in an auto accident.
Carol - Wishing your DBIL the best doctors and outcome.
Yvonne - I am anxious to see your catio pictures. We have considered building one for our kitties.
Vicki - Have fun at the pool!
Mia - Hope your kitty is home with you again soon.
Welcome to all the newbies.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA6 -

Did the Reebok cardio Tone DVD so tomorrow I’ll do the Nina Lessig DVD.
Went to Hamrick’s. They never called me about the sneakers for $16 but Avia was on sale again at that price so I went this morning and got a pair in my size. I also got another bra and a pair of pants. Tried on 2 bathing suits – they were only $3, but I didn’t like the way they fit.
Jess took Shadow to the vet yesterday and got her certified to be a therapy cat. I’m going to miss her, but I understand. Can’t help my feelings, tho.
Bananas – I would not say this tread is click-y, not at all. I agree with Beth. Sometimes you feel ignored. That’s happened to me and then suddenly someone will comment on something you wrote and you realize that people do in fact read your posts. If I don’t write something down, I do comment in my head
Sheila in TX – welcome!
Heather – so sorry about your friend
Went to lunch with the Newcomers. I usually volunteer at the Green Room on Thursdays but they don’t have any shows in the summer. Next month, I probably won’t be able to go. Then went to the Farmer’s Market to get a Burpee Hybrid cantaloupe. They are goooooddddd, much sweeter than the Athenia. Then went and moved things at Jess’ storage unit. She decided to get a climate controlled one so we needed to move everything from the old one to the new one. Lots of walking and bending (ab work). Jess’ fitbit said she went 9,000 steps so that must be at least what I got, probably more. When we got home I jumped in the pool. Made enchiladas for dinner because I know Jess likes them, made a hot dog for Vince since he won’t eat them.
Carol in GA – prayers
Yvonne – on the radio today they said that today was National Cat Day! Well, cats bring happiness so it certainly can be both! Our cats absolutely love the screened in porch when it’s cool out.
Bought this floor cleaner at WalMart yesterday, tried it on one small area and it looks like it at least hides the water spots. I’ll probably use it on the majority of the floor when Vince is gone since you are supposed to let it dry for something like 20 minutes
Need to go to Food Lion tomorrow. Think I’ll go in early morning. Then the soup kitchen. After the soup kitchen I think I’ll stop at the library. They’re having a book sale, I want to see if they have any exercise DVD’s (like I need more)
Only have had one response so far about our pool party, and that was to tell us that one neighbor couldn’t make it as her hubby is coming home from his deployment to Japan that day and she needs to pick him up at the airport. I doubt the people next door to us would come, they seem to keep to themselves
I tried talking to Vince about a neighborhood pool party maybe next year. He said “I don’t feel comfortable inviting people I don’t know”. But how is he going to get to know them? He won’t take a walk with me because he says I stop and talk to everyone.

We so rarely have someone else in our house, that it was a big deal today to have a man come to clean and inspect the fireplace and chimney. He'll return again in two or three years.
Mia, please let us know when your kitty comes home. I have always worried about my cats when they stay away too long.

Welcome newbies. Always good to have new ideas and stories.
I haven’t mentioned it but I decided to do on-line WW back at the end of May. As of yesterday I have lost (never to be found) 11.6 pounds. Have to put in the .6. Actually feel so much better. Doing a lot of water aerobics as it is too HOT to play golf or even work in my flower beds.
Shelia, where is Webster, TX? I live45 miles SW of Ft Worth. Hope it is cooler where you live. Lol
Cheri- so good to see you back posting. I have often thought of you and hoped you were well.
Have to take my baby puppy out. He is such a joy.

Then we explored the Anthropology room with its local very ancient history. Our area has had a human species since 400,000 BC. Wonderful finds from the Bronze Age, right in the middle of town. Strange to think of woolly mammoths roaming about the bus station!

Heather This is Archie, in Lincoln, NE. I saw Archie with my family when I was a child:

Karen - Nice pic! Archie must have made a great impression on you!
I realise from my post that it looks as if I thought woolly mammoths were still roaming about in England in the Bronze Age. No! The part of town we call Old Steine was an estuary bed hundreds of thousands of years ago until quite recently. It is now a bus station and small park. Mammoths, aurochs etc have been found there.
The Bronze Age find was in a beautiful Georgian square. A burial with amazing artefacts including the only intact amber cup in the world, carved from a single block of amber (from the Baltic).
Can you tell I love this subject!
I also got goosebumps from some of the furniture and decorative objects.
The one thing I miss about London is the museums and galleries. I used to go to every exhibition. It was my solace and mindfulness. Now I have the sea, which is a great companion, but I do miss my injection of wonderful things.
Tomorrow the grandchildren are coming for a sleepover. Got to make a few beds and tidy away dangerous substances! Can't have them spraying each other with mould killer!

my friend who is very dear to me kind of hurt my feelings last night but she was telling the truth.
she said I am wishy washy and dont have a backbone , and that my family lacks integrity.. all which are true. but hurts hearing it..I have never used microsoft office ,excel and and have only used word once or twice and she was agast..so will see if I can find free classes somewhere on how to use those..5 -
Guess what?
Yep, again.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR5 -
Allie Check your local library for classes on technology for FREE!!!!. My library has intro to word, excel, google etc and a lot of folks my age and older take advantage of the classes, they are often scheduled at night and weekends. An awesome resource! I am not always open to learning about technology, but believe even I can do it, with lots and lots of repetition and for me, I take notes about each little step so I can understand and practice at home.
TGIF! I am going to the DDS with DH and then off to a lunch date, he is a keeper that one!
It's supposed to be a beautiful weekend here so I want to get off my .... and get out to enjoy it. I've been a hibernating bear lately, actually a slug, so it's time to get a little sun on my face and breath some fresh air.
