Michelle in NC- my home has color, warm colors. My mother (cough)came for a holiday after we had painted and as her usual, made hateful remarks. It hurt my feelings, but after Years of her behavior,it didn’t last long. Its my home and we’re comfortable.
Cheri-Love the kitties.
Pip-😁😁.Weight lifting this morning.I need to increase weights, but I’m a bit concerned about doing so because my knee is clicking sometimes. But if I expect to be able to perform my job to the best of my ability, I need to make sure I stay in shape.Pumpkins will be coming in soon, then Christmas trees and they can be Heavy.

I'm new to this, I keep putting off eating right and exercising. I received not great news from my blood work. I need to eat low carbs and start exercising. I have Lupus so I can't be out in the direct sunlight. I plan to walk for 30 minutes at least 2 to 3 times a week.

Just had news from a really good male friend that he has Stage 4 lung cancer.
He wasn't a smoker, as far as I know, but has done many huge DIY projects over the years, rebuilding houses etc.
I feel attached to him and his lovely wife as they were so welcoming to me after my first marriage broke up. The man is one of my ex's best, old friends, but we have been in touch more than my ex. We visited each other often and they have been here to Hove and we have occasionally swapped houses. They live in Cornwall.
He is having immunotherapy and chemo.
He is starting up a WhatsApp group to keep people informed.
A bit of a repeat of my lovely Ros.
I also have another friend just diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer.
A sign of our age, I guess. Until now most of my friends have dodged the bullet, but our age is catching up with us.
Lots of love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx11 -
@bwcetc - my mom was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer at age 81. I hope I’m wrong, but I think surgery and recovery are going to be very difficult for her because of the mild stroke she had in February. Then again, she’s kind of like the Energizer Bunny!
Thank you for sharing again. I will keep your mom and you in my prayers.2 -
click-y ... if you're referring to a clique, no, I don't think so. But it is possible at times to feel ignored. I don't believe it's intentional ... just the nature of a large group that moves very fast through specific topics and can't comment on every post.6

It could be from asbestos. They used asbestos in housing here until 1987. It is fine if you leave it alone. Once you disturb it then it is a problem. Today when they deal with it they wear all kinds of protective gear. I know when I worked in a lab in the early eighties they were just starting to have hoods in the labs and were becoming aware of the dangers of some of the chemicals. They also allowed smoking in the building at this time. I never forget when I complained to my boss and he put his cigarette out with a stream of acetone. Wouldn't happen today.
So sorry about your friends!5 -
Sheila Texas- I’m exercising by walking in circles indoors y down hallways for an hour a day. Waters handy got news on in 1 room so when I pass I get a glance while holding this iPhone 📱 reading recipes y stuff on it or listening to YouTube videos 2yr old running around me to driving into me with toy cars lol a lot traffic beep beep* especially in my kitchen it’s his favorite detour. I got workout 🏋️♂️ equipment in the garage but can’t use it with a toddler who’s too young to follow directions well yet.
Clicky- depends which definition used. Lol 😂 we do comment a lot 23+ since last night at 10pm. We do have stuff in common.
Waiting to see if family visits or not . Dad wasn’t feeling good enough for the trip so he stayed behind the rest went on. Got chicken cooking y for me potatoes. Figuring out a nice diabetic friendly side dish he will eat without teeth in. Gummy foods lol.

I am so thankful I entered the workforce just as smoking in buildings was on its way out. One of my early jobs was in a cafe that allowed smoking and I hated that! I only worked there a year and that was the only place I worked that did allow smoking.
But yes, asbestos can be a big problem too. They discovered disturbed asbestos in the building my department was in when I started and evacuated us all for a week or so while it was taken care of. Shortly after we (several hundred of us!) moved into a newer building.
Very sorry about your friends, Heather.

Good morning ladies! Happy Thursday (to many of us.)
Lisa - your comment about not having visitors in your home.... same here. I just realized we've had relatives and some friends from out of town, but very few folks who live in town or even in the neighborhood. Hope your UTI symptoms are getting under control.
Tracey in Edmonton - the flu hitting? GACK! Are the staff/employees required to get a flu shot? Is there vaccine available yet? Hang in there, we know you are super busy now.
Julie - so interesting to read about your mortgage loan challenges in France. Sounds pretty frustrating. Hope you can do something fun with the remainder of your vacation time.
Ginny in Ohio -- punch cards! Fortran! That takes me back to a college class I took in the early 70's. A stack of cards to do a simple mathematical problem, . At the rate they're going, I'm wondering computers will look like/be able to do in ten years. Almost scary.
Machka - take care of yourself. The painful tooth is the pits. So glad to hear that you are getting a bit of time to relax and enjoy doing some things with your DH, your plate is so full these days.
Heather - so sorry to hear about your friend with lung cancer. Hope his treatment does the job and he has some happy and healthy years left. Same with your friend with bowel cancer. Your dinner with DS sounded great.
Debby in VA - what do you do that involves handling pumpkins and Christmas trees? That's some major weightlifting right there.
Katla - we are all waiting to hear how DH's MRI turned out, and hope it's something easily fixable. Speaking of fixable, is his car up and running? Maybe you responded and I skimmed past!
Sheila in Webster TX - walking is wonderful! Good for you!! And there are several gals here who are on really low-carb (keto). I'm on moderate low-carb, mainly avoiding starches and sugar. RVRita pointed us to the dietdoctor.com webpage. Lots of info there.
Newbies - welcome, keep jumping in. It often takes a long time to feel like you're part of the group. Some new gals start right in like they've never known a stranger, lol. Others hang on the edge and venture forth now and then. When I first came to the group, I tended to respond to a few gals I felt something in common with... geography, weight loss/health goals, same interests/job concerns, etc. All are welcome. And Beth is right, this gang moves so fast.
I'd like everyone to know that I respond mentally to every post I read, most of the time that response doesn't make it into print. I do try to comment with a "hug" or "like" or whatever is appropriate.
Also, those of you who are new and interested in weight lifting, there's a great book called "Strong Women Stay Young" by Miriam Nelson, which involves using light dumbbells and ankle weights at home 2 or 3 times a week for us older gals to keep in shape. I've been doing it almost 2 years now. Here's a website that tells more about it: http://www.strongwomen.com/fitness/fitness-eprograms/vibrant-aging-overview/vibrant-aging/ Kudos to our fearless leader Barbie who got me started.
Many more I wanted to respond to but doing it in my head will have to suffice.
Make it a great day, ladies!

We're supposed to be getting a massive blast of winter this weekend. My husband and I were going to visit his sister but as I watched the weather, my desire to drive out there was diminishing.
So the plans have changed ... we're staying home and hibernating instead.

Ginny - It sure is amazing what computers do now for the size compared to those old mainframes that took up a whole room isn't it?
Heather - Sorry to hear about your friends. A lot of people from the county I'm from in NB are battling cancer. Young children and young people with younger families. I read a while ago they are doing a study to see why it has the highest incidence of cancer per capita in Canada in that region. Cancer is such a devastating disease.
Margaret - That is so true, my Dad passed away from lung cancer in 2012. He swore up and down that a lot of it was the chemicals, asbestos and such he worked in all of his life without the PPE that was currently required. He smoked too, but all of his brothers and sisters did too well into their 70's and 80's and none of them got cancer.
Lanette - Vaccines aren't available yet. Right now the admin staff (which I am) are not entering the wings with the residents. The 9 residents that are sick are all moved to one area and we are washing hands and such continuously. I am learning a lot, this is my first time in a healthcare environment.
This is the first morning since the end of June that I have had the opportunity to hop on and read and catch up. I may have to start getting up earlier to make this a habit again. I feel a little lost most of the time now as if I'm missing something. I think it's my friends.
Tracey in Edmonton6 -
Tracey- My Mom used to ride her bike behind mosquitos 🦟 spray trucks y played in the yard to field while pesticide got sprayed on the crops. Doctors didn’t believe her or us when we said she never smoked or live with smokers but it’s true. She had lymphocytic leukemia that spread to bones y lungs after 30+yrs of it she got it young a rarity normally effects the old. They tested a lot of the newest treatments on her she was doing great they even gave her meds to help white blood cells if I understood right. She lost her health care when the new insurance laws kicked in so she died without pain medication to cancer treatments went down fast died. Like any law it helps one person but hurts another. I still think all that pesticides caused hers.

Heather, I'm sorry to hear about your friends, as well.
On the subject of cancer, statistics from cancer.org now say that 1 in 3 folks in the U.S. will get some form of cancer during their lifetime. I choose to flip that by saying 2 out of 3 (the majority!) will not. You never EVER hear it in the public media that way, however. Kinda puts a different spin on it.
I've deleted three paragraphs that all ended up depressing or worse (you're welcome! ).
I always take comfort in Reinhold Niebuhr's words: "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,/Courage to change the things I can,/And wisdom to know the difference."
On a side note, I always thought he was German, due to the name, mostly. Turns out he was born in Wright, MO. Learn something new every day.
Love y'all,

Morning! Gym time for me, keeping things moving despite some aching lower back issues. I’ve been thinking kidney problems but that’s been ruled out by lab work. The doc says take Tylenol and keep stretching. I’d it still aches in 2 weeks I have to see an ortho doc I suppose. At least I know it’s not kidney issue. NYKAREN2

If you mean cliquey, I haven’t found it so.
I am a relative newcomer, and have dropped in and out several times, due to time commitments, and have always found a welcome, and great acceptance and support here, especially if I post a query, or a problem.
It is in the nature of such a long running thread that some members have known each other a long time, but newcomers are always welcomed. That’s why we keep coming back.9 -

This. It’s also weird which topics will cause an influx of posts and which ones will get crickets. It’s also possible that people miss things that otherwise might have caught their eye, but they are really busy that day and skim through too quickly. I know this happens to me a lot.
Just know that we are glad you are here.

Allie: Hang in there. Something will turn up!
Ginny: I’m missing my craft groups. We will be meeting again in September, so I’m frantically trying to finish a few crochet projects. I have Xstitch projects that I have been working on for years! 😂

Astoundingly, the word count on my current assignment is a bit low. Usually I'm way over. It's not flowing!
I know what I want to say, and usually I can sit down at my laptop, wave my hands over the keyboard, and have 5000 words, and I've got to cut back. Not this time. I'm inching my way slowly toward 1500.
Oh well, I think I've pretty much covered the material ... just about. I've got one more small section to do.
But I'm going to bed now.

It was horribly hot and humid here yesterday so stayed inside. After 40 minutes on exercise bike, I did some deep house cleaning. Also, I'll be speaking to a new house cleaner today, she's cleaning for two of our neighbors at a very very reasonable price.

Feeling blah today. No energy.
DH ultrasound done now wait for a week for Report. I asked him if anything was said during the exam he said no, lady was all business. But when he answered same questions by other people, he’s saying it’s bad and his previous surgery has torn!??
Hot already at 10 am at 97. I better get moving, even though I feel like climbing right back in bed!

Debbie in VA: I’m sorry for the loss of your wonderful old dog.
Tracey in CA: Welcome to a great group. Stop by often and get to know us.
Meg: Delighted to see you post! I hope your trip to CO is rewarding.
Sue: Thanks for your good wishes regarding DH’s MRI. It is done and the doctor has the results. DH will be going in to see her ASAP. It looks to me like he may be having surgery in his future. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that there is a way to improve his quality of life. Chronic pain is exhausting.
M in OZ: I hope the flu doesn’t get you.
Bananas: I would NOT say this thread is cliquey. Everyone is welcome. Some of us have known one another for several years and that is reflected in the comments from time to time. :flowerforyou:
(((Heather))) Sorry about your male friend with stage 4 lung cancer. I hope he’s able to get some pain relief. Margaret’s comment about asbestos seems likely. As a do-it-yourselfer he may have been exposed many times over the years.
Lanette: DH has an appointment with his doctor and they will be discussing possible surgery. I think it is likely he will be scheduled for surgery in the near future. He is in loads of pain all the time and pain meds are ineffective. The CBD oil we get for our old dog is something that they both use daily and it is more helpful to DH than over the counter pain relievers. :ohwell: The car is still at the VW dealer and we don’t know whether it is fixable. We haven’t heard from them and haven’t called because we’ve been dealing with DH’s health situation. :ohwell:
Tracey in Edmonton: DDIL’s mom is currently battling cancer and she lives in Kentucky. We looked at a cancer map online. Kentucky is an area with a high incidence of cancer. Virginia & Florida were the only states on the east coast that looked safe on those maps, if I remember correctly. The western part of the US has a much lower cancer risk level according to what I saw. I didn’t look at Canadian maps but I bet you can find them.
DH is not feeling well this morning and is sitting in his favorite chair with a heating pad on his lower back. I imagine he’ll be calling his doctor for an appointment today. I think they’ll be discussing probable surgery.

Husband's brother was sent to have a heart bypass today. Prayers appreciated.
Heather ~ So sorry about your friend.
Clique (Are we?) ~ No! Folks come and go and folks stay. I don't respond to every post and it is not expected. I love reading about everyone's life and pray for those who need prayers and try to be encouraging.
Carol in GA9 -
Katla - Sending good wishes for your DH. Being in pain all the time must be terrible.
I haven't yet replied to my friend's email as it knocked me for six. I will do straight after this post. He was always such a strong man. I just think building work is very bad for the lungs. Dust, chemicals, etc etc.
I have sent a card to the old friend with bowel cancer.
Today we decided to take some time out. We went to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Brighton and Hove Museum. Wonderful! The dedication of those photographers was phenomenal. Plus there was a description of the subject and how it was taken. For me the insects always steal the show.
Then we explored the Anthropology room with its local very ancient history. Our area has had a human species since 400,000 BC. Wonderful finds from the Bronze Age, right in the middle of town. Strange to think of woolly mammoths roaming about the bus station!
Then we revisited the superb furniture collection. I was in heaven! The Art Deco pieces were beautiful.
Then had a coffee, picked up some easy food and came home. A lovely day that felt like a real mini break.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx8 -
carol sending and strength for your BIL.
I too am resting on a heating pad right now which seems strange cause it’s so hot out.
