Dinner went well. It was more work than I anticipated, but I think it was enjoyed by all. My son said it was great because it was things he doesn't cook at home. DH even tried a tiny bit of the very runny Camembert and said it was OK. That is a landmark victory! I gave the left over cheese to my son as I can't trust myself with it.
Of course far too much garlic butter from the snails and ciabatta to mop it up was eaten, but it was nice to produce a real dinner, no holds barred. I do enjoy it. Also nice not to be drinking. We had AF rosé and kombucha.
Weather going to get windy and rainy soon. Friday does not look good.
Now to look forward to the grandchildren coming for a sleepover on Saturday. I've got Swedish meatballs for them.

Yvonne- my boy loved the whole family, but was a mamas boy to his last breath (he died in my lap).I was blessed to be with him from birth til death and every wonderful day between. I had sinus surgery years ago,was out of it for a couple days.I vaguely remember waking for seconds to see him watching me as he was perched on my chest.I was told he never left me.

My goals for August are:
1. To log my food
2. Exercise 3 times a week
3. Meditate everyday for 10 minutes
So glad to find this group. I am 54 years old. Talking Bio-identical hormones. Very hard to lose weight.
My fiance is very supportive, and I am very grateful for him. Changing my thoughts to positive has helped me very much and writing a gratitude list. Big stuff coming up for me. Foot surgery (Bunions) and my fiance's contract is up at his job. So most likely in October, we will be both unemployed. We have money saved, but at our ages we are a little stressed at finding a new job. I am not even worried about the pain with the surgery. Security is so much more important to me.

Hey everyone. Just a quick hello; I'm running around trying to get ready to leave for Colorado tomorrow. Meg from Omaha7

Lovely cloudy, cool morning here and I got lots done in the yard and paddock. Hot now this afternoon. DS came over and installed new lifters for the trunk lid of the VW. It didn't take him long and we had a nice chat. He brought Nessa's brother, the Dude over and they had a grand run in the pasture. One week now not eating between meals and I have lost 2 pounds. Yay!
Heather - Love the pics.
Janetr - Sending healing angels your family's way.
Katla - Hope the MRI went well and you get the results soon.
Allie - Hang in there. I have to believe good things are coming your way.
Vicki - Glad you are safe after the storms.
Machka - Hope your mouth problems improve.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA6 -
Went to the water class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Nina Lessig DVD.
Thank you, everyone for your liking the turtle. I guess I just like things with more color. I do hope he likes it.
Barbie – I would love to see a pic of the dwarfs and Snow White. Working on sleepy right now. Started Bashful tonight
RJ – that bread that’s sugar free – does it have artificial sweetener in it. What is the sweetener?
Karen – our local Y has a quilting group. Senior citizens might very well be able to help you, even if it’s just to point you in the right direction.
Lately I’ve gotten into reading. I got so absorbed last night that I almost didn’t realize the time since I had to take a shower
Allie – I’m crying for your boss. Maybe he shouldn’t have paid that contractor so much..ya think?
Welcome everyone new

A local sewing store or quilting guild may provide some answers. Good luck! Love the idea!!

I love having my daughters kitties living with us for a bit!
Minnie and Albie enjoying the view!

Sharon in Arkansas- what an incredible thing to do with plastic bags.
Machka - we have a flu outbreak at my work and we had a meeting yesterday discussing it. It’s early for the flu season to hit here as you well know. During the meeting the Administrator was telling us it looks like it’s going to be a bad year based on Australia. I hope you feel better soon.
Lisa - remember when they said how much easier our life would be with computers.
Janet - I love the quote about being self employed
Shannon - you must be so proud of yourself! You’ve accomplished so much!
Karen in VA - the nursing home that my mom is in has a quilters group. They have a quilting bee to get projects done for people in the community. They don’t do it for free they charge a minimal amount and use their proceeds towards recreation supplies and indulgences.
Well I missed yesterday completely and had 141 posts to read tonight. Had a very nice visit with my cousin last night but it was such a nice visit o didn’t get home until 1145.
Tired tonight so I’m heading to bed now.

A senior center or possibly a hospital volunteer group. One of the hospitals here makes keepsake quilts for their hospice patients. If there is a sewing or craft store in your neighborhood, they may be able to help. When I lived in Ohio I took some things that were beyond my capabilities to a lady in one of the Amish communities.

It hit Australia early too. I was holding out till mid-May for my flu shot, which is reasonable ... a lot of the flu shots weren't available till the beginning of May anyway. And then I got the flu at Easter ... last week of April ... during our last little holiday as we travelled around northern Tasmania. All our plans went out the window and I ended up sleeping whenever I could actually breathe. The rest of the time I was just trying to sit up (dizzy) and breathe.
I did get the flu shot mid-May, but they say it wears off after about 3 months and the flu is still going here. So I do wonder if I'm fighting it.

Grateful:
weather is nice
reasonable gym walking distance open at 7
nice people at café
Challenges: weight, low carbs, calories, work, decision-making, socialising, filing, taxes, paperwork
Accomplishments or successes: at least minimal exercise, possible renegotiating loan (1% interest rate here)
Feeling: slightly up feeling in morning after 10 min round trip walk to gym, 15 min at elliptical and espresso standing at bar at café.
I have no classes nor meetings in August. I'm lazing a lot. On one hand I feel like I push myself a lot during year and deserve rest. On the other hand lazing about and surfing online or Netflix throughout vacation is not uplifting. I'm okay for a bit (why not, and there's some good stuff culturally and in terms of information). I have some appointment and so on, but I laze a lot. It's an effort to even clean the house. I have not done paperwork (filing, taxes) well at all. Or maybe I have too much of it. I did spend an hour on sending info to 2 -3 banks to renegotiate or repurchase my loan. At one bank I have 3.88 interest on 2013 which was already high then. The manager refuses to make an offer of renegotiating. So I have to go to another bank. This particular bank is not French origin (nor American) but a big bank from another European country. most of the clients are from that country (I know because they are always speaking that language when I go there). And they definitely seem to favour people from that country (at least they are more friendly and take more time with them). I don't know if I've ever seen another client in there who was not from that country. I did choose to get my loan from them, so it's my own choice, but it makes me mad.
I read that many banks refuse to renegotiate unless one has a rather high salary.
My salary has been very modest these past years and for most of my life, but due partly to union type negotiations and partly to taking on a couple more classes next fall, I'll have an increase in salary, making my salary more average for my field, age, etc.
I have an appointment w work doctor this morning due to issues at work. it's kind of a protective thing. I had one 10 days ago and it was useful. The doctor said he was going to speak to the school about making our contracts more legal. (strangely, despite the fact that they are a public higher ed school they have many many illegal contracts.)
Tension, and- feeling overwhelmed.
Doing minimal housework is already a major effort which I succeed more or less at.
I eat reasonably healthily, not cooking, but eating organic veggies and fruits and soy stuff and hummus and beans, etc.
Too many calories still. I've the upper limit of ok BMI for about 2 years. Before that I was middle or low healthy BMI for decades.
I have a hard time giving regular attention to limiting food intake.
Doing ok getting minimal exercise at least almost every day. That helps moral for a few hours after.
Winge Winge.

Given that this thread has been going on for a decade, there are a number of ladies here who know each other quite well and have even met in person.
Is that what you mean?
Or are you referring to clicking the spoilers to find out the rest of the story?

Tracy in Cali - Welcome! We've had more than one person dealing with searching for gainful employment, best of luck to you and to your fiance... and much luck, as well, on the bunion surgery. I'm with you on security being top of the list. It matters at any age, but at our age, even more so.
Tracey in Edmonton - Computers are definitely high on my list of "mixed blessings."
Sue in WA - Well done you for the two-pound loss just by not eating between meals! Sounds like a nice visit with your sons.
Vicki in NE - Glad you were safe from the storms, but it sure doesn't sound like the aftermath has been much fun.
Meg in Omaha - Traveling grace, dear heart.
Happy Thursday to all, hugs to those that need them.
Love,
Lisa in AR3 -

Had late night for me last night. Went to ladies crafting group. We get together for a couple of hours twice a month and work and projects and gab (usually more talk than work). Keeps me working on current cross stitch (don't want to show up with no progress!) The others knit or crochet so they finish things much quicker than I do (and they are all also retired).
Computer discussion took me back to my first pc -an Apple !!C with floppy discs. Took it with me to type my comprehensive exam for Ph.D, A few years before I had a statistics class while getting my Masters, and we had to use the punch cards. Dropped my whole deck down a flight of stairs one day. I was impressed that the assistant at the computer lab could quickly shuffle the mess in order. My cell phone now has more computing power than that main frame did in 1977. They are a mixed blessing, but my work life is tied to the computer systems, and much of my home life.
We are doing remodeling at work and I am quite pleased with the progress. Much of the work is done on evenings and weekends. This weekend we should see quite the dramatic change and be close to completion. Have to move on to renovations in another building after that so things can be moved from current location to make space for another county entity. And it is almost budget prep time, so I guess I will stay busy!
Hope everyone has a good day,
Ginny in Ohio5
