Are we nerds? This is what I thought of first too.
Well I write fantasy and scifi novels, so it would be hard for me to deny this LOL
Well that is super cool! I wish I were nerdy-er. I mean, I'm pretty nerdy. Dr. Who is my favorite, as well as the Twilight Zone and all that weird stuff. And I love numbers... But my kids are really where it's at. My daughter is a Dungeons and Dragons geek who loves the 80s and all things fantasy/ sci-fi / RPGs.... My son, on the other hand, is a super "cool," guy who REALLY cares about his image..... parenting is fun.
We watched Beetlejuice for the first time (for the kids anyway) last night and my daughter LOVED it while my son said, "I'm scared to die now."5 -

As expected, I did not get out for a run yesterday. I ended up working half of my day off (ha) because our intranet was moved to a new server Wednesday night. There were a couple applications that needed a few fixes to work on the new server. Programming is fun.
I did get out this morning before work though. Both dogs did great. Other than a somewhat urgent need for a bathroom halfway through (I was so grateful to be close to home) it was an easy 3 miles. My back is still talking to me but I'm hopeful that I'm past the worst of it.
@PastorVincent Oh yeah! I bought your latest book but haven't read it yet. I've spent a fair bit of time researching for a new character for our campaign and forgot all about it. I know what I'm doing this weekend!6 -
It is so hard to work when I plan on leaving early to make the drive to South Dakota tomorrow. Packet pick up tonight in Sioux Falls then a 45 minute drive south to the state park where the race is held. I'm splurging and have a camper cabin reserved.
I may stop at some breweries along the way.
Race start temp is 36F,increasing to 57F at noon. Planning on shorts, short sleeve shirt and arm sleeves. I'll have a light weight wind layer with me if needed.

Thanks!
I wish I could find a local group to game with. It has been three decades since the last group I was in broke up due to well me, the GM, moving away. Minor detail I guess.3 -

HUG A RUNNER?
No.
I saw someone with a "Free hugs" sign in Chicago. I might have stopped, but wasn't that bad off. Some races, though...
And someone was holding a sign saying they would pause my Garmin if I went down. Um, no thanks... the race clock is still running. Now if I am going to DNF and get transported, then (and only then) is it ok to stop my Garmin during a race. I would much rather they wake me up so I can finish the race.6 -
I fell off and I need to get back to it. I will NOT hit my goal this month. St this point, I will be thrilled to crawl across the finish line as long as I finish it in the time allotted. Have you ever seen people walk these things?5
-
I have 7 hours to complete it and I'm pretty sure I can run over half of it. This will most likely be a one and done deal.5

This was a 'You're Crazy' Hot and Windy Run. As you may have heard or read, California is having just a bit of a heat, wind and very low humidity problem this week. Dh told me I was crazy for going for a run this morning but I really need the miles. It was Hot. It was Windy. It was SO dry! Saw no one on the trail and just one poor dove trying to fly and getting pushed back and around by the wind. No other birds wanted to even attempt it apparently. It was not a terrible run other than just being so dry and thirsty even though I stopped at each and every drinking fountain if for nothing else than to get some moisture in my mouth and on my lips. I will definitely be taking my hydration pack for tomorrow's 11 mile long run. Dd arrives late morning for the weekend and Monday so no running is likely once she arrives. Still hoping to make my goal next week though there is a lot of interference on the calendar already.

I saw someone with a "Free hugs" sign in Chicago. I might have stopped, but wasn't that bad off. Some races, though...

Which reminds me - there's been a video doing the rounds of a guy in I think a 15000 metre race who has completely zonked out and is being pretty much carried the last 100 yards by another competitor. They make it to the end and the MOST IMPORTANT THING for both of them seems to be stopping their watches. I mean, seriously, why? They are not going to be PBing for sure....4 -

You guys might be nerds but that's what it is! No spikes on this one, it's a smooth round ball at the end. We don't get to swing it at anyone but it's pretty cool to think about it learning to "fight" with a medieval weapon.
There are different weights but I'm using a 10-lb one, which seems WAY heavier because of the offset of the weight. My trainer has up to a 25-lb one and it's intense.11 -
Carb loading on Sioux Falls.

15 miles today. I wore my nox gear for the first time as I left pretty close to sunset by the time I returned it was too dark to see on the trails and I was thinking I was pretty stupid for leaving my lamp safely at home. But I did not die, so I guess it all worked out in the end10
-
My leg is better but still hurting today, and my knee decided to start griping in solidarity, so it’s a DNS for tomorrow’s 10k. Good luck to everyone who’s racing this weekend and hopefully I’ll be back on the road in a couple of days.12

Have a great weekend everyone and may that fast be with you if you are in a race!11 -
9k today, ran another new route. This time in a local park, so grass! I was so preoccupied getting ready silently in the dark to avoid waking people and working out if I had enough time to complete a long run before the rugby on TV, I completely forgot to put my contacts in. Lots of dog walkers out but i couldnt see any of them properly.
Log: 9km, note: longest run in 5yrs, two walk intervals. Longest blind run ever.

Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k. Nope...
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen - Completed 9-28

October goal 110 KM (ADJUSTED DUE TO INJURY)
Upcoming races:
Oct. 26 - Botanical Autumn 5k
Oct. 27 - Lublin Half Marathon
5k is done. Race report is like this: The Botanical Gardens are on a hillside. Race is 3 loops down, around a pond and then straight back up. Most add 3-5 minutes to their typical 5k times. I tried to take it easy, but felt worse with every loop. I managed to not walk or barf, despite seriously considering both. A friend ran and won her age group, and her husband was at the finish taking pictures of us at every loop. I can only imagine how terrible I look in them, haha. I was 8th in AG, which was probably right in the middle of the results for this small race. Ate a big pastry afterwards and quickly felt better. Quad is not bothering me at all and I'm gonna rest up now for tomorrow's half marathon.
Here's the bling.I did 4 races in the 2019 series.11 -

Delaying/preventing dementia is my motivation... crossing my fingers that getting more fit will do something about it.

It should if modern health science is correct. They say that endurance sports sharpen your mind, and to some degree reverse aging of it.2 -
I am enjoying staying in bed this morning. I ate horribly for two days in a row and paid for it dearly. I slept deeply, which is a nice change because staying asleep is always so difficult for me. I went and ran last night despite wanting to lay around instead. It felt great to make myself do it! The discipline has to override motivation and as i am sure you all will agree, this is the hardest part.
I am not motivated to get out and do a long run today, in the rain, no less. But alas, I am disciplined. Plus, i have been doing well and I dont want to give myself reason to be regretful or disappointed that I didn’t do all I could...
Enough stalling- time to get ready and get out there!8 -
Hey. Y'all are a smart thoughtful bunch:
With the exception of limiting carbs due to health reasons, diabetes; what's youre take on these athletes that are vegan or vegetarian?
Why?
Who doesn't want to perform better (not running, only loafing currently)?
Is it just the next fad diet?
And Jurek? Hmm, seem like some proof in the pudding? Maybe I should look at his book(s).
I'm 1.5 days in to cutting animal products and wondering, did I get suckered? Seems like evidence is there. But I'm skeptical that there's an agenda or it's bro-science.
You are welcome to eat what you with no judgement from me (duh). I know, for some that is a touchy subject. I'm just trying to find healthy.
Didn't @MNLittleFinn give up animal? He's a beast.
Tldr is the science there?0
