I run 12 minute miles. I'm 5 feet tall and this is a steady run for me. My husband can walk as fast as I run. My goal is to finish this marathon in February, which is alotted for 16 minutes per mile. I hope I don't have to walk any portion of it but even if I run most of it, as long as I walk even just the end and finish within that time frame, I'll be happy.

What is your approach to the upcoming holidays and abundance of food? How will it affect or effect your training or goals?
I really do not have 'abundance of food'. I am responsible for my meals (and Mom's) and I also do not socialize very often. If my sister and brother come in for a visit, I do all the meals. My weight goes up while they are here and goes down when they leave. No real effect on training or goals...just life.
How old are you? Not chronologically. Is there an age where you knew who you wanted to be and have found that you’ve held tight to it, or perhaps comeback to it years later? What things have always interested you?
Not really sure I will ever know who I want to be. I do want to be a garden rock when I grow up though. I cannot think of anything better than to sit in a garden and get sun and water ever so often. I do not really hold 'interests' or set hobbies. I guess my elephants (ears) are one of my hobbies, but they have not always interested me. I enjoy my day to day existence, not looking for stress.
What one sport or physical activity have you always wanted to try but haven't yet? Why haven't you tried?
I am not really a 'sport' person. I cannot think of anything I want to try. I like being able to run and work in my yard. I enjoy being fit enough to do that.
I guess if I could afford lessons and had more time, I would like to learn ballroom dancing.

Have missed a few days. Been absolutely manic.
The radiographers in NZ are striking. We have withdrawn service for 24hrs on Monday and today (wed) as negotiations over our new contract has completely broken down. I've been on call for urgent life and limb preserving services only. Consequently I've been busy. And yesterday we basically did 2 days worth of work in a day because we care about our patients.
I hate striking but the bosses aren't listening. Sadly radiology is the most ignored and forgotten about department and our managers are showing they don't really care.
Because I'm on call, I don't feel comfortable going out for a run or a walk because I could be called in any moment sigh. Annoying.
Sounds like time for 'crazy laps'

Upper 60s F and humid again today. At least it was cloudy: yesterday was a record high temperature both for the day and for the month of October. Started slowly, but the legs loosened up after the first k and run was pleasant after that.
What is your approach to the upcoming holidays and abundance of food? How will it affect or effect your training or goals?
I try to eat regular portions instead of gargantuan ones while keeping my workout schedule the same. Generally works pretty well, even though I have a difficult time with discipline when it comes to eating.

What things have always interested you? I think I act younger than I am. I suppose some people are off-put by my insistence that being lighthearted is important to me, but I try to not let it affect me. Although there are indeed some bitter things in life we get to taste, I prefer to focus on and try to relish the sweet things.
What one sport or physical activity have you always wanted to try but haven't yet? Why haven't you tried? If I wanted to do something, I did it. If I wasn't good at it or didn't enjoy it, I dropped it. Of course, as I grow older there are more and more things I no longer do because I can't do them to my level of satisfaction.

6.27 miles for me today. It was a nice run. Fall is still nowhere to be seen in Texas, but it wasn't too terrible. It was slightly cooler than yesterday with a little bit of a breeze which helped. I tried to just run easy and I think I did well. I'm planning to take tomorrow and Friday as rest days before my 5K on Saturday.

Hello!
So we are in a middle of heat wave. In OCTOBER. Today and tomorrow we will have record highs of mid 90's with heat index in the 100. We live in the upside down I think.
Yesterday's run was an easy run, and today was speed intervals. Probably do only 2-3 miles tomorrow and rest up for the 10K on Sunday. Aiming for a PR, and the temps are supposed to be 60 in the morning so should help. But one never knows. I may just be happy to finish it, lol.

Just try to keep the portions in check usually. Keep the workouts/running the same and enjoy it.

I feel (and act) younger than I am. Always have. I did want to be 29, don't know why. maybe cause school would have ended, and that's when I figured everything would settle down. Boy was I wrong!
That's why now on every birthday, I keep my moto - Forever 29 lol.

This morning was a nice brisk 31F/-1C when Jackson was finally able to drag me out the door for a run at 5:30am. I am still struggling with what to wear. Jacket and gloves are helpful at first but then I get too warm, my ears are cold without a hat but then I get hot otherwise. I know.... many of you would probably trade places to have the freezing temperatures I fought with today.
I did not want to get out there, and the first mile was not pleasant but I enjoyed most of the rest of it.... and I'm really glad I ran today.
Tomorrow is the first anniversary of the day I started C25K.

I can't wear a hat in the winter either. Too hot and annoying. So, I wear a thick headband that covers my ears. Have you tried that?5 -

Headwear - Two things I do in cold weather - one, wear a buff for the flexibility. It can be a hat, a headband, or a face cover. Second, start out with a hat but carry a headband to switch to once your warm up. For longer runs I like to bring a second (or third) buff so when the first gets soaked in sweat I have a dry one to put on.
Jackets - Plan on starting out cold. If you dress for 15F to 20F degrees warmer than it is, you should be just about right once your warm up. Alternatively, start with a lightweight packable jacket like the Patagonia Houdina and once you warm up, stash it in a running belt. Also look for zippers when you buy cold weather running clothes for better temperature regulation. One other option I like to use is to run my first mile with an extra jacket, looping back to my house or truck to shed it once I'm warmed up.

My husband took a half day and went in late this morning, so we got breakfast when I got home from work. I blame the full stomach for cutting my run shorter than I would have liked. Starting October with 5 miles.

2 days in to October and I'm already 6 pages behind! Thanks for setting it up @Elise4270 ! I'll have to try and catch up next week when things are a bit more back to normal around here.
Right - goal for October is 50 miles.
I'm not off to a great start on that target as I have a slight cold which has drained all my energy which means no energy to run. Doing everything I can to rid myself of it as I'm supposed to run my first ever half marathon on Sunday. Thanks, immune system(!).

I mentioned yoga (and thanks those who suggest Yoga with Adriene! I'll give it a shot) but here's something else I plan on trying next year. Hang gliding. I used to want to try sky diving, but this seems more fun, and last a lot longer.
These guys run a business on the same lake where we sail and I took these last year from our boat. They pull you up with the speedboat then disconnect. You can take a 30 minute trip (about 20 minutes in the air I think) or go for a couple hours if the wind currents are right. Next summer I'm going to see if I can get a group discount and reserve a day for all five in our family to do it one after the other (though my wife says she won't go up).

@Teresa502 I don't have a thick headband, but I do have a buff like @7lenny7 suggested. I'll have to try it like that. I guess I forgot just how versatile that fabric is. And I need to get myself another one or two.
@7lenny7 Since my fall in August, I've been splitting my runs in half to take one dog at a time. As my runs are currently just 3-4 miles, running with the jacket at first and then dropping it off works ok. Although so does not using the jacket at all when it's dry outside. At least down to freezing temps. Hopefully I won't ever have to test out the cold like you got last year!

3.1 miles and it’s stupid hot here. I don’t think it hit 100 heat index today but it was close. Instead of being more heat adapted I seem to be getting increasingly fed up.
Forecast says one more day of this nonsense and then a cooler week next week. I’m praying! Solidarity with all my peeps stuck in the heat wave.9 -

Notes:
First workout run in 3 weeks/since my foot sprain! I was originally planning to run home from work but the high today was forecast as 94*F so I decided to run to work instead when it was in the mid-70's instead. The workout was 9 miles total with 3x12' at tempo effort with 6' easy between. Was hoping to keep the pace around 8:20, but I didn't know how that pace would feel after my time off. My splits ended up being 8:17, 8:16, 8:11 pace and felt very comfortable. I did this same workout three weeks ago, and my splits were a little faster this time and with slightly lower average HR! Guess this is proof that I didn't lose any significant fitness after my week off.

Ended up going to marathon group again tonight, but only for a base run and not a second opportunity for hill repeats. I hadn't done my run yet and knew a friend was tapering for her marathon and would be also skipping the hill workout so I joined her for 3 easier miles. (I just noticed I was still using September dates in my cumulative miles table).9 -

You got some great advice already, but I would say that 31F is not really that cold for running. It SOUNDS cold, and if you had to SIT AROUND in it, it would be cold. But for running it is not that bad once you lose your summer heat adaption at least.
The key, like @7lenny7 mentioned briefly is learning to start cold. If you are comfortable before you start running, you are way way overdressed. If you ever run a winter race you will have this in spades while you stand around waiting for the race to start.
If you want to start out without being cold for the first 15 minutes of your run or so, then dress in layers that you can take off and stash in pockets, running blets, or backpacks. Or if you are lucky like @7lenny7 and can run by your house, plan to dump clothes there. I do this myself sometimes because I am not a fan of being cold.
Ultimately you need to experiment and see what works for you.5 -

I have found this is a very valid thing to do with a charging dog. Or yelling no. Or yelling go away.
I've found that you can even yell in the wrong language for where you are, and it still works9 -
