Last time I ran in the rain a guy walking a dog shouted "go home, you lunatic" at me 😂7 -
@quilteryoyo – Beautiful waterfall. Glad you had a nice visit with your family.
@rheddmobile and @mbaker566 – Congratulations on your races!

I didn't get a chance to post my run yesterday, but I did get to run 6.25 miles in the morning before my daughter got here and we went to my sister's for Thanksgiving dinner. It was a great run. I was worried that it would be raining, but it wasn't. It was pretty chilly and there were lots of puddles, but it wasn't bad. I ran pretty fast and ended up with a 10K PR. I have never had an opportunity to run a 10K race, so all of my 10K PRs are from training runs. Garmin said I ran it in 1:00:04 and Strava said 59:43 so I'm not sure if it was a sub 1 hour 10k, but at least it was an hour 10K. I feel like I could get a sub 1 hour in an actual race. My previous fastest 10K was 1:04:53 so I was pretty pleased. My next run isn't until Sunday so I guess I am ending November with 108 miles. Congrats to all who ran Turkey Trots! I'll see you all over in the December thread. Who wants to set it up?

I went out to run this morning before my strength class - I planned to run outside from the gym for 5 miles and then go to strength class. I set out from the parking lot and immediately discovered all the pavement was super slick with a thin layer of black ice. I almost fell three times just getting across the street so I decided it was not worth it, especially as I'd have to run on the side of the kind of busy road for parts of it. I sadly retreated and headed in to change and run on the treadmill.
The run did not feel great and I talked myself in and out of stopping several times. Because of the wasted time of changed plans I didn't quite make 5 miles but I was happy enough that I at least stuck it out.
I'm 4.1 miles short of my goal and I have a 5k tomorrow, so i'm going to need to tack on an extra mile at some point.

@dreamer12151 Glad you got out and did your own walk. Sorry you were feeling down. Hope the walk helped.
@rheddmobile Nice photo of you. I would not have stood in that line for a "free" donut either. I'd rather go have a nice breakfast somewhere.
Thanks @Teresa502 .
@kgirlhart Sounds like you had a great run. Either way, that's a fantastic time.3 -

Today I had the first of the two 20 milers in my plan. It didn't start out so well. Firstly I overslept by about an hour, then by the time I got out I ran about 300m down the road and my headphones died. I checked them last night to make sure I'd plugged them in to charge, but apparently I didn't notice that the USB was loose. I turned around to go back to the house, I had another pair of headphones which only last about 2 hours when fully charged, I'd already run 45 minutes with them yesterday but I figured I'd at least have music for half my run. I left the house again, but accidentally pocket dialled my Dad so I had to fumble with my phone and quickly chat to him for a few minutes. In the meantime, my cat decided to follow me! So I had to pick her up and carry her back into the house. FINALLY I could start my run!
My headphones made it to 16km, but I was OK with finishing the rest in silence.
I've been thinking a bit over the last week after my race last weekend, about the fact that even though I didn't "race" my time was only 4 minutes slower than my PB even though the course was more difficult than when I set my PB. I really think it's because I went into the race with a totally different mindset. I was relaxed and prepared to just run at a pace comfortable to enjoy. I didn't get caught up in the usual go out too fast, bank time, obsess over my splits, push myself then fade out at the end like I tend to do in every other race. I think it proves that if I just stick to running races exactly like I've trained for them, then I'll actually have better results and a better experience overall. I knew all this logically, but actually doing it in practice last weekend really opened my eyes.
Happy belated Thanksgiving to all that celebrate See you in December10 -

Run at least 4 5k races. Completed 8-31
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k. Nope...
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen - Completed 9-28
Cloudy, low 30s F with just a slight breeze out of the east. A minor left hamstring niggle, but nothing serious. Felt good enough to run my fastest 7k this month. On to December!!!
2020 goals:
Continue a 5k regimen.
Train better.
4-13 Shine the Light 5K - 31:12 chip time; First Place male 65 and older
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5K - 31:34 chip time; 31/77 overall; second male 65 and older (no official category)

Great insight @kristym . I have my first real race in a long time this coming Saturday. My goal is to make myself run as I have trained and not obsess over time. We shall see.
Thanks for setting up the Dec thread @katharmonic !
@Tramboman Great job on your fastest 7K! Those faster runs always feel great.2 -

Thanks for setting us up! I thought about doing it last night, but I was on my phone and I often end up deleting my post when I'm on my phone.0 -
What idiot stops and ends their tracker at 9.92 miles!!!3

Commitments for November:
1) Run at least 36 miles
2) Walk at least 100 miles
3) Finish the last 2 weeks of Active's C25K program
4) Finish the first 2 weeks of Active's 5K to 10K program
Nov Totals
Walk: 125 miles
Run: 42 miles
Kind of went off script from Active's 5K to 10K program, since I mostly just want to put more miles under my feet instead of working so much on speed work. But I am up to running 45 minutes at a time, which is about where one gets in the fourth week of that program.

If I went out for 5 miles I could make my stretch goal of 60 miles, but it’s supposed to thunderstorm all afternoon, so I’m postponing until tomorrow. I did get a good long walk in yesterday.
Made my goal of 50 (56.3) running miles and my secondary goal of doing well at the Turkey Trot, although I’m not 100% satisfied with my performance. Considering I was sick, entertaining in-laws, dealing with my husband’s birthday, and a mysterious spasm in my leg this month, I’m happy I made goal at all! Onward to December!3 -

Probably one who tracks in kilometres 😂2 -
As said, I'm definitely not going to make the mileage this month. I'll blame the achilles tendonitis.

Squeaked out the goal for the month!
This morning was tough! First I ran a little over a mile as a warm-up so I would get to 100 miles for the month. Then I had a workout challenge at the gym at 9:30, which is one they have on major holiday weekends. It's an "as many rounds as possible (AMRAP)" challenge of cardo + 50 reps of 6 different exercises (LOTS of legs) for 50 minutes. This is my third time doing it and I did not do as well as the other two times - it really kicked my butt this time. Probably because I was already sore and tired going in.
So then I had to do a quick shower and change for the Ugly Sweater 5k at noon. We got super lucky and the sun came out and it was not nearly as cold as anticipated. I met up with a friend and her 13-year-old daughter who was doing her first-ever 5k (the daughter). She was not excited. The ugly sweaters and outfits were fantastic and everyone had jingle bells on, so it was quite festive.
I told my friend I was not going to be able to run this hard, as my legs were dead. She and her daughter were full of energy at the start and I struggled to keep up and not lose them in the crowd. But then about 1k in, Miss 13 was over it already, and the rest of the race was an effort to keep her from quitting. I hung with them for the first 2 miles, but then my friend encouraged me to just leave them to their misery, and I took off. I just wanted to get done, so I steadily picked up the pace over the last mile despite my burning legs. My time was 34:12, which seems to be my average pace for laid back holiday-themed 5k races
Here's a couple of pics of the festive outfits. Me in the second one - my leggings have cats, raccoons, and llamas with Santa hats. I bought the #selfie reindeer sweater at the packet pickup fundraiser for the rescue mission.
I am now lying around contemplating never moving again. Until I need to walk the dog, who is hinting pretty heavily that it is way past time.

@katharmonic Sorry Miss 13 decided to be a pain, but those things happens. Sounds like you did great, considering. I love the outfits!
@AlphaHowls You are amazing.
I ran my longest distance ever today - 7.25 miles. It was slow, as it should be on the long runs, right? Anyway, that brought my Nov total to 59.47 miles. Exceeded my goal of 50 miles! That's 3 months in a row of 50 or over. I'm sticking with 50 for Dec. If I meet/exceed it, I'll set a higher goal for Jan.10 -

Nice! And it's not even 9.95, which is where I'd round up
Some of us on here (I think @MobyCarp was one of them) will do that just to get at the rest of us.7 -

I purposely try to stop mine at such odd distances and times every now and then to keep myself from becoming too obsessive. 9.92 would not bother me at all, but 9.98 would eat at me a little bit.
@quilteryoyo congrats on your longest run ever! That's fantastic. Definitely long runs should be slow. Great job smashing your goal for November.
@AlphaHowls so fantastic, you should have no problem reaching that amazing goal! Wishing you a healthy running month!4 -
Yep, as I suspected on Tuesday I have contracted Manflu. Managed to drag myself into work Wednesday so I could get some bravery points, then Thursday and Friday I called i sick. Missed Thursday and Saturdays run.
I am not going to hit the goal for November but I am sanguine about that. I am determined to run and long run) Sunday if I possibly can. It would be:
1 my last long run before birthday,
2 5th anniversary of my longest ever run (which I will equal with a 12km)
3 5th anniversary of me giving up running for a yr due to some family stuff.
November goals (all ish)
1. 15 runs.......................13
3. 100km........................87km
4. Long 10km.................11km
5. 100% Morning runs...9/13
7 -
Way to go on your longest run @quilteryoyo!
@AlphaHowls making your 6000 miles for the year is absolutely insane, but 286.5 miles in December will be a vacation for you!
4 miles this afternoon for me. Spur of the moment decision. Weather was good, wife was 'busy' watching TV, so just laced up and went out. No plan, just ran slow and stopped when I felt like I did some work. Slowly getting back to it. Definitely could tell cardio fitness has been lost. But, No pain today 😄

Man, those Mental Demons were fighting me this morning! I really had to to the "Oh, just 15 minutes. Ok, now, just up to the end of the block. Ok, now up to the turn around." and so on. Funny though, once I got to the 2 mile mark, it was "Over half way, no probs!" Then, the 3 mile, "only 1/2 a mile, 20 mins, in the bag!". Cold, wet, rainy, windy day. But feel fine now I'm done - week 2 complete!7 -
Something like 100 million billion posts behind between this and December... so like GREAT WORK Y'ALL! And STAY IN IT!
Looks like I am finishing with 147 miles, given I lost over a week to this trip, that is not to bad. I should have hit 200 easy, so I am calling it goal achieved. And I am still on track for 2019 miles...
5 -
I think I ran about 25 miles this month so a little short of my 30 mile goal but overall I'm happy with my effort and I accomplished running 5k outside.
Great job everyone!7 -

Me.
Thanks for calling me an idiot!
HA! I know you are not
But yes, I have stopped at x.92 or even x.98. If I notice it and have time/etc I will keep going, but sometimes that is just where I am at when I am done, so I am done. Life has enough things to stress over without adding magic round numbers to it.7
