A clean slate and already 3 pages to read. 😂 I have a busy few weeks ahead so may only be skimming until then. Just off out to Parchment Craft. Type to y'all later.
Welcome to returnees and newcomers.
And a thousand thanks to our leader, @barbiecat for keeping us going.
For those who may not know me:
I’m Terri from Northern Ireland, and I am working on improving my fitness and health.
DH and I will celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary next July.
We have 2 daughters, 3 grandkids. And live in a town on the coast near Belfast.
Original Goal for 2019 was to reach 155lbs, which I have already achieved. I have now revised it down to <150lbs. Weight has been steadily trending downwards. I am now at my lowest weight in 4 decades!
Just a few details on my personal journey to health and fitness.
Aim for 2019 ~ reach 155 <150
Aim for each month ~ Weigh less at the end than I did at the beginning
This month, I am FOCUSED on heathy food choices and DETERMINED to achieve my goals!
Age: 73; Height 5’2”; Female
SW: 227lbs (Mar 2014)
LW: 153 (Oct 2016)151.6: 1 Nov 2019 (75 lbs Discarded:- not lost, not looking for them 😂 😂 😂)
UGW: 155 140s (this may change when I get there 😂 )
CW: 151.6- For the last 3 years I have tended to bounce up and down between 160 - 170. Occasionally I bounced up/down a little more.
- My ideal situation would be to be below 155, to allow me some wiggle room for holidays/celebrations, hence my original goal for 2019, which I have now revised down a little.
- I use CI/CO and a variety exercise for extra calories.
- Logic would suggest that I have found a natural comfortable weight, and, according to modern BMI calculation, I am in the upper range of normal for my age and height. However, logic doesn't always dictate our desires and feelings. 😂
- Getting and staying healthy and fit requires the development of a permanent lifestyle reset.
- Replacing unhelpful habits with more useful ones is key to to the process.
- Losing weight is only one of the elements.
- Eating healthy and staying actively is not OPTIONAL, but an ABSOLUTE ESSENTIAL.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts on weight which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be several lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a permanent lifestyle change for most people.

Challenges ... if challenges appeal to you, don't forget about MFP's Challenges subforum:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/challenges
Pretty much the same as last month ... aside from exercise, this month will include ...
-- work ... I've got several projects I should try to finish or get on top of by the end of the month.
-- university ... I start my next course on Nov 11. It's a spring/summer course and entirely online so I'm curious how it will go. Later in November, I need to enroll in my course Semester 1 courses.
-- cycling club ... I have a lot of work to do in this area!!
-- website ... lots of work to do and start attending Wordpress meetings again.
-- husband ... becoming more involved with our local brain injury association.
-- medical ... attending a whole pile of different physio appointments and other medical appointments. There is not a single week without a medical appointment of some sort.
-- and continuing to organise things at home. I've been working on this for a while now, but especially since I wrote my exam on Tuesday!!

Happy November everyone! Hugs to Karen and her furbaby. Hugs to Viv and Allie vent away and enjoy a mental health day, it's good for you!
Goals this month:
*Follow the "new to me" challenges that Machka and Kelly are doing.
*Treadmill HABIT
*Bypass mindless eating, notice when the impulse is there, wait 5 minutes to see if it goes away!
*Maintain weight and count your blessings, not your calories
If I follow the above goals, I will stay at my maintenance weight (135 lbs) at this hectic concert/school season.
Someone posted this quote a while back (Machka?) and it sits on a post it note on my laptop to see every day:
No amount of regret changes the past
No amount of anxiety changes the future
ANY amount of gratitude changes the present

Michele NC - Thankyou my Birthday 🎂 landed at 5pm Thanksgiving Day for my Mom so no money but she got a Lobster 🦞 Dinner with the works y a picture in the paper lol .She loved it . Of course Doctor 👨⚕️ told them since I was a preemie (Extremely preemie) that I wouldn’t make it take me home for my final days. Lol I’m still here lol 😂 too stubborn to die!
Barbara- Doesn’t feel like a church more like a Starbucks! Hubby never been in a small country church so couldn’t understand my complaints at all .After going he gets it huge difference but being a city boy he doesn’t feel comfortable in the country church because he feels like your being judged because they want to get to know you lol 😆. I understand he’s used to zero connections wander in tap a cell button beep hoop bop then into a church like a concert guitars 🎸 doing there solos! Then browse the stores inside buy a latte walk out making no eye contacts. I’m used to small 20-30 people everyone knows everyone in the church at one time maybe 12 people show up we pray for the members in the nursing home, announce Mable fell broke her hip who can go make food rounds to her or visit? Where’s George??? Anyone see George??? Oh his car broke down which part? Well hope he gets it fixed anyone have a spare part for Brother George? Lol 😂 Gotta get George back on the road. Decon making coffee sacking your groceries for some one in need.Pastor writing ✍️ a check even tho the church is poor for a young couple in need with a bag of baby diapers from the nursery. A sign up sheet for who can preach to do Sunday schools lots of empty spots the same names in the same spots. Everyone at potluck saying don’t leave rolls down baby 👶 Calvin has a wheat allergy.

Wow, it's like Fall blew out and Winter blew in. It's 36 degrees and the wind is howling. I'm debating taking my usual walk. I might get blown away. We only had 8 trick or treaters last night instead of our usual 60 or 70.

Karen in VA - all good thoughts for peace, no matter what may happen, winging their way to your beautiful Bailey, and to you.
Went off to my Chamber of Commerce breakfast - honestly my idea of what the circle of hell where I'll be pitching my eternity tent will consist of--a room full of people I do not know whom I must talk to in order to meet a goal that I have no control in setting. I only survive it by focusing on one person at a time and ignoring the rest as though they don't exist. Otherwise, I'd be a gibbering, sobbing wreck in the corner...
OK, that may have been a tad overdramatic, but still. Not my favorite thing. Can you tell?
Viv - comparing travails isn't actually a valid emotional activity. Your upset is your own, and comparing the validity of your emotion with someone else's experience helps neither you nor them. My opinion (and worth what you paid for it): If you're paying for the work, you should either be getting what you want done the way you want it, or you should be getting an explanation of why from the person who made the change, and it needs to be a very good reason. You're the one who has to live with it. All that said, you might have dealt with the change better if you weren't so worried about the people you love. Take a breath, dear heart, and ask the questions you need to ask to set your mind at ease. Many good wishes for your sister-in-laws, both of them, and for you.
The rest of the day is short... we only work 'til 1:30 on Fridays. It's a good thing. Yawning already.
Later y'all,
Love, Lisa in AR6 -

He was in a lot of pain & had trouble bearing weight on his rear legs. I'm afraid he hurt his back. It might just be an injury to a rear leg, but we are prepared to let him go if it turns out to be a spine injury. He has end-stage heart failure and recovery from a spine injury would be difficult if not impossible for him. He's currently gnawing on a chewy treat; perched in his favorite place between my feet on the footrest of my recliner. His pain seems to have subsided. Our vet appointment is in an hour. My heart is breaking.

So sorry Karen. Sending positive thoughts to Mr. Bailey and you.2 -
Thank you Barbie!
Lanette - All the houses in this area were built around the same time, 1926?? They are very solid. In the UK it is extremely difficult to get a mortgage on anything that isn't brick with a tile roof. Anything 'non-standard' you would have to use a broker and pay more interest. Most houses are brick. Our house is one block away from the one I showed and is detached with off street parking and a garage. It is rendered and painted white. Some very nice stained glass. We feel very lucky to live here. This area was the only one we were interested in when we had seen a few areas. Close to the sea, some friendly local shops, near buses, doctor, dentist and very quiet. There is a great feeling of neighbourliness and the garden is a bonus. The sky seems big and it is light. I love not having to get in the car for everything.
My friend in the photo still has her natural blond hair at 70! Mine, alas, is out of a bottle. All her family are blond and I used to sit behind her sister at school who was white blond.
Today DH and I got the bus into town to buy a sweater each. He wanted something a bit thicker, while I like thin ones. Neither of us can bear the itchiness of wool, so we are limited as to where we can buy acrylic ones. I found two (they were cheap) and he found two sweaters and a cardigan. One of the colours I bought was a change for me, but I do like it - a sort of pinky brown with black flowers. The other is lilac. I spend nearly all my life in gym clothes, but a light sweater is useful for public days.
It's pouring with rain now, so we were lucky to miss it!
Karen - sending good wishes for Bailey.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx7 -

Thanks Barbie and KJ for getting us started on a new month. I did not gain last month but the loss is so low. New month New start.
I am so glad Halloween is over. We had about 30 show up and most the grandchildren that live close stopped by. So I made sure when they left that they took all the rest of the candy. Was a nice evening and our light was out by 8:30.
Viv UK--Sending hugs!

What an achievement
Love Heather UK XXXXXX2 -
Allie - You definitely need a duvet day. Lots of stress recently.
Bosses love to keep people on part time work because they have more power over them. No benefits, rights etc. It's nothing personal. You have so much to offer. He is just on a power /money trip and has no idea about people. Grrrr!!!!

Bailey got a reprieve. He herniated a lumbar disk. He's on prednisone & alprazolam, and seems comfortable. We'll be his back legs through the weekend and reassess on Monday. Guardedly hopeful. Thanks for all the love.

Karen in VA - good news on Bailey, hope he does well. Sending good thoughts!! Do they do laser treatments on dogs with back problems out there?
Rebecca - welcome home! I was wondering how you were doing. Wonderful photos of you and your sis and Athena and family. Bet this all did your heart good!!
Vicki - Happy Anniversary! Celebrate!!
Allie - glad you have a day off to chill. Grief takes different forms, I remember when my mom died I powered through it. When my dog became ill several months later, I really, really broke down. I wondered where that came from.... then realized it was under the surface. Dog got better by the way.
Barbara - cute video of the "firefighters", nice they seem to be animal lovers!! Lucky animals. Wish we'd hear from Wendy again!
Barbie - what a spiffy bunch of dancers, cute costumes. Thank you for sharing
Eventful day so far. Yesterday afternoon our old Honeywell thermostat for the heat pump was stuck on hold. I pulled the unit off the wall and replaced the batteries, stuck it back in place and it worked great until this morning, it's stuck on 60 degrees again and no amount of tapping on the "schedule" or "cancel" displays change its mind.. It's probably 9 or 10 years old. Luckily, we only use the heat pump for A/C in the summer and the fan to circulate warm air in the winter, thanks to the woodstove. So, lots to be grateful for.
Anyhow called the heat pump dude and he's booked up until November 14th. Not a biggie - the gal who schedules him said they've been super busy this fall, quite unusual to be booked out that far.
Then gave the dogs anti-itch baths followed up with anti-itch conditioner. I think I got wetter than they did. Will let the groomer do it sometime this month, she's better equipped.
Have a great afternoon.
Lanette
