Hi Gals,
Karen – hugs to you and peace for Bailey
Auntiebk - Very nice eye candy!
I had 41 trick or treaters… all nice, all in costume and polite, but one cute 2-3 year old, just a tiny little kid, he reached up and grabbed the bowl of candy as I was squatting down, man was he strong! And while saying me, me, me, tried to take it all, I told him just one, and his mom who was standing there was so embarrassed. More kids came up then and that was perfect as I was able to tell him one for him and one for all the others….
In my town there are no set hours, but pretty much if your lights are off the kids just move on.

Barbie - Love the photo! I really miss my line dancing I did on the ship.
My son rang me with timings etc for tomorrow's babysitting. After the decent day of the photos I posted he said they had continuous rain for the rest of their week in Cornwall. Not happy.
We will turn up at 6.30 tomorrow, which will give us enough time for early dinner beforehand. Might take fruit and cheese with us. It's supposed to be terrible stormy weather tomorrow night, so we will drive over there.
England in Rugby World Cup final in Japan tomorrow. DH will get up early to do exercising before it starts at 9 am. I will join him in exercising and then get the newspaper and milk. All the pubs have laid on breakfast and tv.
DH 's aunt has had her hip repaired. My DSIL is going up to see her in Birmingham on Sunday.

Vicki: HAPPY 35th 🥂🍾
Enjoy your break away.

Terri ...well done on your goals!
Vicki ... Happy 35th!
Carol ... I agree with Amber ... you weren't "dumb" by sending your child to the nursery. Churches and nurseries were entirely different not so long ago.
Viv ... I ditto what Lisa said.
Lanette ... here's a link to the produce I purchase. No, not all of it is from NY ... we'd only get root vegetables after a while! They're very good about explaining where they are "rescuing" produce from.
Halloween We had a really good turn-out by taking our Trunk-or-Treat indoors. It was horrible outside last night ... wind, flooding, power outages, etc in the area. We had nearly 80 children visit the church gym and most were from the community (not church members). I was particularly thrilled to see several children with special needs attend. From experience, I know that Halloween is a difficult event for wheelchair users on the best of nights, let alone in bad weather. It made the effort worthwhile. My fishing themed "trunk" was a hit especially since I had a vintage Big Mouth Billy Bass singing Take me to the River every time one of the children approached my candy basket! They were enthralled and proof that everything old becomes new again. LOL!
October goals ... meh. I lost one pound.
November goals ... joining Kelly, Machka and KarenNY in the walking/step challenge ... which I have already failed today since I took a nap instead of exercising. Will continue IF 19/5 but really aiming for 21/3 as I eat too much when my window is 5 hours long. With the purchase of produce boxes, planning plant based recipes/meals. Of course, want to be lighter at the beginning of December than I am today.

Kate – I’m sorry about the keyring. I know how you feel. My father had a scapula that he always carried in his wallet. After he passed, I kept it in my wallet. Then my wallet was stolen. To this day, I wish I had that scapula
Warning: rant Remember I told you about that lady at the soup kitchen who was always sour and I was killing her with kindness? She’s the one who insists you ONLY do your section. They got new tables so she was complaining “how do you do it”. She was told “you make it work”. I just said, “it’ll all even out in the end”. Well, she was behind so I asked her if she’d like me to help her. She said “yes”. Later she was taking these desserts to all the tables and people at her tables were asking me for things. Since she was busy, I got them. Then she started asking the people at my tables if they needed anything. When someone said they needed another sandwich, I got it. She said “they asked me for it” (remember, this was my table). Well, someone at one of her tables asked me for something and she was no where to be found so I got it. In the meantime she started talking to this person. I brought the sandwich and she gave this real big scowl so I handed her the sandwich to give to the person. Doesn’t feel good when it’s done to you, huh? Oh, before we started serving, she “showed” me where my tables were by dragging me by my sleeve like I was some sort of child.
Regina – just keep coming in here and you’ll get lots of motivation. Baby steps.
Vicki – happy anniversary
Karen VA – so glad for Bailey!

Like in the UK, most houses here (in Tassie) are also brick. Ours is ... but it was built in the 1980s.

Sleep Paralysis and Exploding Head Syndrome
If you've never heard of these things, the names sound rather scary ... the first is rather scary, the second isn't particularly, once you know what it is.
I have experienced both now and then since I was a child ... usually when I'm stressed.
https://www.verywellhealth.com/what-causes-sleep-paralysis-3014700
"sleep paralysis is believed to relate to a problem regulating REM sleep. It is during REM that our body is paralyzed so that we are unable to act dreams out. This muscle relaxation, called atonia, may sometimes occur while you are awake. As such, you will be unable to move, even if you are conscious. This is one of the common features of sleep paralysis."
https://www.verywellhealth.com/what-is-exploding-head-syndrome-3014764
"This parasomnia involves the experience of hearing a loud bang within one's head. The specific noise type may vary, sometimes sounding like a bomb explosion, gunshot, car crash, or even a clash of cymbals; on occasion, some may also experience a bright flash of light associated with the noise. The condition can be greatly upsetting and distressing, especially if it is not initially understood. It may cause confusion and concern about a serious underlying cause. Fortunately, there is no pain or other physical symptoms associated with it."
"It seems to occur more often in women, especially after age 50, but it has been reported in a child as young as 10. Its precise cause is not known. It may be similar to other phenomena such as sleep paralysis that occur in the transitions between states of sleep and consciousness. These overlap states can lead to bizarre sensory experiences.
Exploding head syndrome often occurs in association with extreme fatigue or high levels of stress. The attacks may vary over time, and sometimes abruptly cease for long periods. It may occur once and never again."
October was a very stressful month for me, so it didn't surprise me when I started experiencing "exploding head syndrome" quite regularly again. I get both the flashing light and the BANG!
But then, last night, I had sleep paralysis too. This time, as I was being held down by an invisible being and was fighting in my paralysed, half-awake, half-asleep state to escape, I was able to call out ... "Help me", "Help me" ...
Unfortunately my cries woke my husband who was very, very, very worried about me. Fortunately, he woke me to find out what was wrong and that "broke" the sleep paralysis.
Hopefully November won't be as stressful. I really don't like the sleep paralysis ... it is scary, and I didn't sleep particularly well after that last night.
Have any of you experienced these things?

Hi All,
It's been forever since I've visited here, but I finally thought about it on the first of the month, so I'm not as far behind. It's nice to see so many familiar names and faces.
I don't know when I was last on here, but an update is due. I'm down 120 lbs since I started this journey. It took me a bit more than a year, and I've still got about 15 or 20 to reach my goal. (I need to see if the body will let me go as low as I want, since I've got a lot of excess skin that won't go away.) I've lost a small woman, and I gave my daughter a piggy-back ride as promised, since at 23, she's about the weight that I've lost. Ugh, how did I ever carry that around?
I'm in about a size 8/10 pants, and sometimes 6 or 12 depending on how they're made. I'm in small tops. I'd like to think I'm smaller than I was before the kids, but vanity sizing means I'm probably not.
This week I had to buy a new coat, since my old one was way too big. I still wear a large in coats--go figure. I guess that'll help keep me humble. I'm cold all the time now! I mean, I used to sweat my way through the winter, now I'm looking for sweaters, fuzzy socks, coats, scarves, hats, and gloves--and it's not even that cold outside! I bought a parka to wear when we walk the dog.
That's another change since I was here last (I think.) We finally got that furry beast to walk on a leash! That big black chow chow is afraid of everything, and he wouldn't walk on a leash, or even let us put it on him. We decided we had to try when we were dog-sitting my sis-in-law's chiweenie. We took both dogs behind the house near the creek, (had to drag mine out the door, lift him by his harness, and almost force him to walk.) He was doing okay, then he dove over the embankment into the weeds. Brett grabbed for him just as he bit through the leash! I carried the little dog, and he used her leash on Vader just to get him back home. Next day we bought a heavy chain leash--and tried again.
It took time, persistence, and patience, but now he LOVES his evening walks. He's getting more confidence, doesn't freak out when he sees people, and we have to hold him back to keep him from going after other dogs. (He used to freeze, roll over, and poop, he was so submissive.) He wants to chase bunnies, terrorize toads, and stalk armadillos. He's the reason I'm consistently getting an hour walk in every day.
It feels great to be able to walk, go up stairs, and stand on my feet for more than ten minutes, without pain. I can do planks and push-ups (but don't like to) though sit-ups are still impossible. I can jog a bit with the dog, and can keep a good pace without getting winded. I've gotten rid of all my fat clothes--except for one pair of pants I can stand in one leg. I shopped end of season, and bought size six and four for next year. My body is wrecked from the fat. I've got loose skin on my legs, stomach, and arms--but I don't care! I think it'll take time to go away, and probably more exercise than walking. I can feel my bones! I play with my collar bones like a toy, and I get uncomfortable sitting for too long since my butt is bony.
My in-laws are still living with us--at least until their new house is built--maybe six more months. My mom-in-law has lost 30 lbs on the diet I'm on. My daughter has lost about 30, and so has my husband. Ha! I'm the biggest loser! It's a good thing we all get along, since we've got a full house.
Lately, I've been working on several crafts and sewing projects. I want to stock up enough to rent a booth at a craft fair next year. So far I've got about fifty bowl cozies, twenty fabric shopping bags, six knit hats, and one quilt. I'm going to make little gnomes, jar openers, aprons, coasters, crocheted pumpkins and dishclothes, quilted Christmas ornaments, hair bow clips, more small quilts, rustic wood signs, and remote control holders.
Crafting takes a lot of time, but I'm doing more of it on my feet, rather than sitting. I've been trying to reorganize my project room, ironing and folding fabric, and trying to get the shelves neat and organized. What is it about organizing that makes your space look like a tornado passed through?
Tomorrow I'm taking a couple plants to a family from our church as a little get well gift. They're already well, but they seem to have had one thing after another running through their family, so hope this will cheer them.
Take care, all, and if it slows down here I'll try to pop back in.

My resolutions each month include walking lots of steps each day. I carry a pedometer in my pocket and have a step counter on my phone. They are both very motivating and keep me moving because I like "getting credit" for being active. This morning I found out that after walking for 35 minutes with the dogs, that my pedometer battery had died so I lost the count of about 2,000 steps. At line dance class, I realized that even though I was wearing something with tiny pocket for my pedometer, there was no way to carry my phone while dancing so I lost several thousand steps that would normally have been recorded while dancing. Fortunately, Sasha wanted to go on an extra long walk in the afternoon so I ended the day with a good step count. Along with that, I had no plans for the afternoon so I spent several hours riding the exercise bike and watching TV.
Vicki, Happy 35th anniversary
Viv, Did the changes in the kitchen layout have anything to do with the location of the electrical or plumbing connections?
Cari, what a great success story. I am much colder now that I've lost weight and usually wear extra layers in the house along with a wool hat and gloves.

M I have had both conditions you describe. Both as you said occur as you go into REM sleep. Both as scary. I agree stress is part of it. Creating better sleep habits can be helpful. I admit my sleep habits do need work. I tried to go to be earlier for a while but then I woke up so early in the morning.
Knowing what they are helps me to take it more in stride when it does happen to me.
DH did get good news that his chemo is keeping his cancer in check and one node did reduce in size. The chemo is hard on him. His hair thins and turns white and it is affecting his hearing.
I did help DS get his leaves raked today. I am glad we got it done because it is going to be even colder next week. He got 80-100 trick and treaters in about an hour. He turned his light off when he ran out of candy. Despite the large numbers he did say he enjoyed it.
For me it was the most fun I have had in recent Halloweens. We got about 40 which was just right. We in the past got those huge numbers and it is hard to enjoy it as much. We have also gotten kids that look like they are in high school. We didn't get any of those this year. Favorite costumes were the girl in a dress she worn to the Renaissance Fair, the gorilla, the little girl in the fire suit that was a Dalmatian, and the giant Toucan head.

Lanette the exercise tutorials look similar, but missing some of the instruments of torture like bands we put around our legs above the knees and dowels and resistance bands for presses and rows. Our instructor used to be a biology teacher and had a private holistic fitness practice. He really focuses on hinging hips back and bending knees, balance stepping in 3 different directions, both static and dynamic balance. Only one gal in our class uses the weighted vest, me I have plenty of weight to bear without it! PM me when you get the DVD and we can compare notes
Lisa love your wise words to Viv. Well said!
Vicki the very happiest of anniversaries to you!
Rebecca great pics, great (no gain) accomplishment.
Wow, Barbie, that's a big line dance class. Is that a new haircut?
Allie glad you are listening to your body and taking care of yourself. Ditto what others have said both about your need to grieve, and your worth and your boss' motivations.
Machka exploding head, no, sleep paralysis (ah, so that's what it is, thank you!) yes. Many times. Sometimes I am able to cry out “Help” and when Joe hears me, wakes me up and so saves me. I also get nightmares, but only when I've been sleeping on my back. As a child had frequent recurrent nightmares, less often as an adult but some of the story lines have continued since childhood. When I wake up from a nightmare I prefer to get up and do something to really shift gears. If I roll over and go back to sleep, I'm sometimes plummeted right back into the bad dream.
Michele, or highlight the text you want hidden in the spoiler, and with it highlight, click the paragraph sign dropdown and select “spoiler”.
Welcome back Cari and con VERY gratulations on your accomplishment!
Went with Joe to his physical today. Walked us through POLST forms and opened Joe's mind to advance directives (I think). No diabetes, yay. BP up a little, cholestrol profile better than the Dr's thanks to the statins. Dr. stressed that cardiovascular fitness is the number one thing we can do to prevent cognitive decline. Wants us to walk downhill for 15 minutes, as a warmup. Says it will take us 30 minutes to walk back up which will be just right for conditioning... for now... and yes. Joe lost another 2 lbs. Pfaugh!
So I did walk Miss Tumble down the lane for 20 minutes... it only took 30 minutes to walk back up but I did stop three times to catch my breath. Then good sweaty line dance workout and now I'm pooped! Will sleep (on my side) for sure
Lighter, lovelies!

Hi Michele.
I am proud of you taking the time to volunteer. Not many do even when they have the time and are complaining there is nothing to do. As far as the "grouch" you are dealing with I would just continue to kill her with kindness. There is something in her life making her act that way. Maybe she was powerless most of her life and since she is a "lead" now she feels when people get in her lane, even when being helpful, it's a call back to her life. I keep thinking a private conversation with her may do the trick. At work I normally say to someone, hey, let's take a break and take a walk with the person outside. I then say, when you do/say xyz, it makes me feel..... She seems like a handful and if she isn't receptive you keep doing what you are doing. You're there to help and make people feel there is someone out there that cares.
I do not have much time to volunteer but have found an organization that gleans farmers fields during the Florida growing season (Saturdays, yeah!). Last year the volunteers picked over 600 tons of food that would normally be tilled back in to the soil so another crop can be planted. Fields closer to me will be ready around January 9th and I am looking forward to getting out in the fields, listening to the birds, and being out in nature. It's very meditative to me.
It looks like Machka beat me to the spoiler tip. Machka, do you ever sleep?!

Hi Machka!
I have experienced sleep paralysis on occasion, but never exploding head head syndrome. Wow, both scary and disturbing. I haven't been diligent in analyzing what is going on in my life when the sleep paralysis occurs. My dreams at those times are very much likes yours was where someone is chasing me and/or I am in a bad situation. I usually wake up because I am screaming at the person "get away from me" or "no".
It sounds like you need a little me time or need to scale it back at little. Or, hit that meditation goal a little harder.
Hopefully, November is a less stressful for you.2 -

I am having a little difficulty winding down. I don't need to be busy every minute right now and don't have urgent deadlines, but we were out shopping -- my husband was looking for garden watering stuff and I was just wandering around looking -- but I kept thinking, "We've got to get going soon because ... " ... "Oh wait ... there's nothing particularly urgent ... ".
That happens after a really intense period of time. For about a week, I keep feeling like there's something urgent I need to do ... and then I start to relax a bit.
