The pairs are a championship figure skater with a championship hockey player. The hockey players are from league or Olympic teams from th US and Canada. The figure skaters are medal winners in pairs or ice dancing from several different countries. The judges are a mixture of hockey players and figure skaters. It's not as loud and showy as Dancing With the Stars4 -
That cake cooled for over 3 hours, but it did come out in one piece. Made icing and iced that cake and the cake for Vince
SuziQ – how heart warming!
Welcome everyone new!
Oh willow – three months, and the three worst months on top of that. Come in here lots for lots of support and hints. This’ll work out, I know it
Went to church and when I came home, Vince had this diagram of our pool. It’s for digging the pool but it gives the dimension in every 4 feet. It’s really for knowing how to dig for the pool, but if we spread the cover out on the driveway, we think we can use this diagram to cut the cover. Sure will be easier than laying it on the water and then estimating where to cut. Vince even said that maybe we can do it tomorrow. We’ll see. Right now I’d just be happy to get it cut in half.

Our community has slowly been recovering after the heavy rain and wind of Thursday night and Friday. My daughter has been without power since early Friday morning. She came over to our house this morning to wash her hair. We didn't lose power. Hers just came back on late today.

Karen in VA - good news on Bailey, hope he does well. Sending good thoughts!! Do they do laser treatments on dogs with back problems out there?
Rebecca - welcome home! I was wondering how you were doing. Wonderful photos of you and your sis and Athena and family. Bet this all did your heart good!!
Vicki - Happy Anniversary! Celebrate!!
Allie - glad you have a day off to chill. Grief takes different forms, I remember when my mom died I powered through it. When my dog became ill several months later, I really, really broke down. I wondered where that came from.... then realized it was under the surface. Dog got better by the way.
Barbara - cute video of the "firefighters", nice they seem to be animal lovers!! Lucky animals. Wish we'd hear from Wendy again!
Barbie - what a spiffy bunch of dancers, cute costumes. Thank you for sharing
Eventful day so far. Yesterday afternoon our old Honeywell thermostat for the heat pump was stuck on hold. I pulled the unit off the wall and replaced the batteries, stuck it back in place and it worked great until this morning, it's stuck on 60 degrees again and no amount of tapping on the "schedule" or "cancel" displays change its mind.. It's probably 9 or 10 years old. Luckily, we only use the heat pump for A/C in the summer and the fan to circulate warm air in the winter, thanks to the woodstove. So, lots to be grateful for.
Anyhow called the heat pump dude and he's booked up until November 14th. Not a biggie - the gal who schedules him said they've been super busy this fall, quite unusual to be booked out that far.
Then gave the dogs anti-itch baths followed up with anti-itch conditioner. I think I got wetter than they did. Will let the groomer do it sometime this month, she's better equipped.
Have a great afternoon.

Since home I have been enjoying my eldest son. We have been laughing at funny videos, and today we went to a wonderful ramen shop here in Whidbey island. We shared some melt in your mouth pot stickers, and each had a bowl of ramen. Mine was pork bone broth, with shiitake mushrooms, onions, 3 prawns, half an egg, bok choy, spinach and sliced fish cake. It was heaven in a bowl! I practiced my Japanese with the chef which was the husband of the main waitress. It was a delight!
Then son and I took a nice drive meandering around. Such a nice day.

Hi Gals,
Ginny – you know your body best, keep advocating !
Karen in Virginia – I must have missed that Olivia and Phoenix were moving back. A bit closer for you!!
Michele – I always got the stuck piece when I made cakes, now I cut a circle of parchment paper and put it in the bottom of the pan, comes out with the cake and then it can be peeled off. Works great!
Rebecca – glad you had such a good time, and no weight gain! So I ate a lot of ramen (the packages that back then were 11 cents each) in college, and was happy to have food, but never hugely impressed. Ramen shops are all the rage here and so with a friend went to one a few weeks ago, $15 for a bowl of broth (it was fine) ramen noodles that were not as curly as the ones from college- but the same consistency and flavor, and some slices of pork and some veggies. Don’t get me wrong nothing bad about it, but kinda struck me as something to make with the leftovers from a roast, and certainly not worth $15 so what did I miss? The gal I was with raved and raved, but could not tell me what made it special.

Kim – I normally use a piece of parchment paper on my cakes. Only this one was in a bundt cake pan and for the life of me, I can’t find a way to get parchment paper in it. Or at least so that the cake will still come out with the bundt pan ridges.

Sunday -- we participated in a shorter version of the first ride of the Audax season!! It was a lovely ride, and the organiser and his family put on a good BBQ after. There were about 17 or 18 riders, a good turnout for us, and I think everyone else rode the official 100 km.

Barrie: Thanks for the info. Strictly Come Dancing is on here at the minute. We usually have Dancing on Ice after Christmas.
Having a relaxed morning. I have a busy week ahead. Just a piece to write for Creative Writing Group tomorrow. I gave them a painting as a prompt. Now I have to write something.
We will go for our usual Sunday visit to DED and grandsons after lunch.

Hello Michele and Kim. I love parchment paper and use it cake, cookie and bread baking. But, with ridged bunts the only thing that works for me is really greasing and flouring of the pan and making sure the cake is fully cooled before I attempt to remove it from the pan. That and loosening the cake as much as I can using a thin rubber spatula. It has been so long since I baked, too much temptation for me, my first few attempts will probably look like my home economics versions (high school) - LOL!3 -

Hi Amber.
It seems like you have been struggling lately. First be kind to yourself. You are doing great with keeping up with your very active son, you are exercising, keeping up a household, being a good daughter, wife, etc. This is all about baby steps.
I found an article about healthy snacking on MFP. Here's the link. Basically we have a tendency to go too low cal and our bodies are not "satisfied". The article provides some tips about snacking. I incorporated some of the tips and have found I am not grazing the kitchen as much.
https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/5-snacking-mistakes-to-avoid-if-youre-trying-to-lose-weight/?otm_medium=onespot&otm_source=onsite&otm_content=homepage:homepage-header-unit&otm_click_id=a5cbf551-c4db-4180-bd42-73c3107951ac
Of course, with a little one running around it isn't always easy to put yourself in the forefront. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to plan one's days and meals.
All in all I want you to remember you're doing great. A slip is not being bad, it's a slip. And, every moment of the day is a moment we can make a positive change.6 -

Hi all welcome newbies.
HEATHER DH and I love Spiral too.
Started a free online course in genealogy I got into this when I first retired but haven't looked at stuff for ages. One of the interesting things was my Dads gfather Robert Wing was from USA and his father was down as an Indian Chief called Read Wing. Frustratingly was not able to verify this. Family story always said he was and my Dads Mum was a little brown skinned lady who looked as though she could have had Native American forebears. Fascinating
Have a good Sunday

Time switch, fooey! Pick one and stick with it dadgummit! Takes me weeks to adjust. Twice yearly torture. Whiiine!
Kate in UK ((hugs)) hope keyring magically reappears soon.
Karen in VA Grinning imagining Bailey trying to lift his leg. The things that give us joy Olivia and Phoenix back in the states, is DD back with their father?
NYKaren, love your penny in the jar, might borrow
Michele thanks for the Kathy cartoon, she was one of my favorites. I've always had trouble with Bundt cakes sticking, even when buttered and dusted with flour. Fooey!
Margaret the splinter in the toe analogy really resonated. Healing hugs.
Welcome Willowsbough. You have the strong motivation and good strategy needed to make that 3 month goal.
Tracey an inch smaller ?!? WTG!
Kim I'm so with you about the Ramen... food fads, sheesh!
Rebecca no offense intended, just not a fan of seafood or noodle soup. Admire your ability to speak Japanese. Well done!
Machka happy you and DH were able to enjoy a shorter Audax ride on such a beautiful day
Allie good for you for getting help with your resume. You're not such a procrastinator after all
Mushroom festival yesterday was fascinating. Beer and wine tasting was entirely too successful Found a Temperanillo I really loved, bought 6 bottles, came home and drank the better part of one. Logged every sip and nibble, came in just under CICO but nowhere near the <250 goal. Time for another week's break from alcohol. [sigh]

Allie - Why are you having to redo your resume again? You have been looking for a job for months. Have your duties at work changed so you are needing to update what you have been sending out? Good luck!
Michelle - I haven't made a bundt cake in forever but used to spray and flour the pan heavily and then like the others have said let it cool completely before removing it from the pan.
Machka - Yeah for the ride!
Barbara - Glad you enjoyed the festival.
On Ramen - I too think it is overhyped. It is fine, I will go if a group really wants to, but it wouldn't be my choice. To each their own.
Karen - I too missed that the grands are moved back. Is this a good thing?
Have a great Sunday ladies. Hubs is off today and we are going to a concert tonight not too far from our house. Our handyman texted me last night and asked if he could come hang our Christmas lights today but then didn't reply when I asked what time he was wanting to come so I don't know if that will happen or not. We won't turn them on until Thanksgiving.

Hi everyone. I was snowed under and then this past few days I was shut out. It took several days to get a new link for a password.
Gained weight! am back up to a high.
I'm between 23 and 24 BMI. Latest research quick online search says women with 19-21 BMI have greatest longevity.
Over the last 2 decades, till about 2 years ago I was definitely on the low BMI, even too low according to charts in mid thirties though I was never really skinny. (always had ample calves and even thighs were never really skinny, and always a bit of butt, and was quite physically active back then).
My mom was 5'2" and 300 + lbs in the 70s when that was not common at all. It was freakish back then. there were maybe 2 women of that weight in a town of 30,000. I know things have evolved since then. Her BMI was over 55.
All the women in my family are rather small and have slow metabolism. I seemed to escape this, for the most part, from early 30s to early 50s.
I had to buy new clothes a month ago and now they are getting tight too.
(though a friend did throw some in the dryer when I was visiting whereas I always wash in cold water and hang dry).
Definitely a shift 1-2 years after menopause.
It's such a busy period I know I won't be able to read many posts.
I'll can possibly start to participate more normally from late December on.
Goal this month: go back down under 59k.
I'll try this: Eat less starch, sugar, fat in evening. (after 5pm), and see how that works.
go to gym 3x a week
walk 30 min per day the other 3 days
Overwhelmed with stuff to do and deal with. Stress at work and in some other areas.
First weekend off in many weeks. I actually met w an admin helper just to help sort out and pay some bills and do some filing. Did 4 loads of laundry. Friend's celebrating his b-day at a café type place today.
I'll read back a bit. nice to catch up.7 -
Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Been writing a lot of late, as if some small dam burst again. Not back into the fiction side yet, guys, so my apologies for those who asked for a sequel to my first novel... Flak may never come back, it appears she may have served her purpose. She's headed toward a cave somewhere in West Texas the last I saw of her.
Still waiting on the university provost to approve the federal collaborative grant, but it's just pushing a button once they do, unless they require substantive changes, which would be a complete PITA.
Small triumph yesterday - actually logged everything! (first time I've made it through an entire day in a long time and not just thrown my hands up and given up). Ate under my calories. Not my set calories, but set plus exercise. Baby steps, you know. Each day that I'm under my 1250 set calories plus my exercise calories this week, I'm calling it a win. Then I'll inch it down over the rest of the month, a few hundred calories at a time. Trying to sneak it past my reluctant psyche.
Also trying to convince myself now to go to the gym and do my resistance work. Not my favorite thing, expecially on a freezy morning... but shall drag myself out the door. Once I'm there, I'll be fine... And then I need to come back and see how far I can get on one of the grand's quilts, and not be tempted outside by a sunny day.
Welcome back Rebecca! We missed your smiling face, and we're glad you're home.
Welcome back, Cari from North Texas, as well. Well done on your weight loss!
Welcome to the new ones. We're glad you're here! Come back and post often.
Love y'all,

Not sure what kind of cake you were baking in the bundt pan. But did you heavily grease with shortening and then flour?1 -
Good morning all! Got my extra hour of sleep in and still woke up at a "respectable" 6am! (this is what I love about the autumn time change). Unlike many others, I don't mind the getting darker earlier in the day. As a morning person, I will take the extra light in the morning; when I like to do my walks. So...for a couple of weeks, I will have a bit of light in the morning. lol Then the daylight become shorter, still, and I will be walking in darkness (sounds like a very dramatic book title) again.
Rebecca- So glad you had a good time with your sis! I have never been to a "noodle" place, but I would love to try one. Ramen noodles are my comfort food. I also love to watch the travel shows and see people eating at the local "noodle" vendors or "street food" vendors.
Barbara- My CDA is a child development associate certification. It is not an associates degree; but it means we have taken the extra training needed to be preschool lead teachers. I am a bit ambivalent about the whole thing; as it is pretty much a meaningless piece of paper that I will have to take a test and pay for the certificate. I have no plans of being a lead teacher in a preschool. I don't need it to continue being a childcare provider. BUT...I am going to get it as a "just in case" something were to happen to me or my home and I would need to be employed at a center. I, personally, would rather take some college classes and get an actual degree in child dev. or business management and take my childcare home into another direction; but haven't got the money right now to do that. SO...I am getting things in place to get my CDA, if my zoning approval for a group daycare comes through, and I can start taking more children, I might just sign up for some online classes and go for the degree, instead.
Michele- count me in with the ladies who grease and flour the bundt pans! The cooling before removal is key, though.
Machka- I love to hear about your organized rides! So inspiring that you and DH are still enjoying those! I remember when you posted a pic of DH's first ride after the accident.
Well, more of you I wanted to chat with but I have been up and down doing little chores (laundry, dinner in crock pot, dishes washed) as I have been reading and writing, here. Time has gotten away from me and I still need to get my walk in for the day. It is another "gray" fall day and I guess I better get that in before the rain/slush/hail begins. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Michele - have you ever used the non-stick cake spray? I never have, but there are some great reviews on Amazon.
Bananas - I have often read that post menopausal women should have a BMI in the higher range of healthy, so yours sounds just about right now. It is so much better for the bones.
Mine is around 24 normally, but I am slightly up at the moment and trying to lose it. I would love to be back at 23.9.
I also don't want to look 'scraggy' which is not a good look at my age.
I was going out for a run, but it seems to be drizzling. I will get on the elliptical instead.

bananasandoranges, I'm glad to see you posting again. I've missed your newsy and thought provoking posts.
I hate the time change. Just leave the clocks alone and stop confusing me.
Jake cooked spicy beans in the slow cooker yesterday and today we'll eat them with pork chops. It is so great to see him enthusiastic about cooking even if it isn't exactly what I would normally eat.

Allie - when I was looking for work from Jan to June I sent out close to 1000 resumes and only had 5 calls. I did talk to 2 professional career consultants and together we worked on my resume. I would happily share my resume with you if you would like to see the format. I did learn through it all though that it needs to be maximum 2 pages and the cover letter is more important. I hope you find something soon you deserve a break.
Rebecca - you and your sister are beautiful and happy looking.
I noticed yesterday people in my neighbourhood took advantage of the nice weather and have put their Christmas decorations out. I hope they aren’t turned on at night already but won’t be surprised if they are. I don’t know if I am totally against early decorating, people spend thousands on them, they should enjoy them.
I am off to go figure out what to do with my day.

Tracey , that would be great, I have been in alot of deverse jobs in my career.the one I am in now has been the longest at 13 yrs.. but I know longer want to be in this job, I want the rest of my working years to be in some semi stress free enviorment, I feel my calling is to work with the elderly and so I am looking into all avenues of that..
would love to work at a senior center ,but we have a small one , and there are already quite a few people working there
I am sure the good lord has something in the works for me, he has always steered me in the right direction4 -
Michele ~ There is a product called Bakers Joy which I have found to be excellent for the bundt pan cakes.
Lisa ~ Sound like you are on an upswing. Good to hear!
Julie ~ Wish I had a BMI anywhere near yours.
Grandson (9yrs) spent the night with us last night and it was fun. The biggest problem was getting his attention off the computer games that he is addicted to. He went to sleep by 9:30 after having a football game and basketball practice in the same day. This AM he and I walked the Pom and then mom picked him up for church.
